Based on reading some of the threads here on xda, most of the people are using KJ3, KI4 and KI8 and some uses KI3 like me.
My question is that, what is better ROM? KI3 or KJ3?
Based on this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278) thread xxKI3 is optimized for battery, furthermore I use the KitchenROm KI3 custom room since it is not far the same from the stock rom plus it is optimized.
Now why most of the themes on the first page are created on KJ3?
Just asking what their difference and whatsoever.
thanks in advance.
KJ3 is newer. I'd use it.
aside from that, is it optimized for battery like ki3? I try to search about this topic but could'nt find one.
Samsung doesn't provide a change log with each firmware, its simply newer and people assume its better and it might just be.
KI3 didn't work well for me, i would recommend a newer version like KJ3 or, in my case, KI4
Both have been great on battery for me. Only upgraded to KJ3 so I could use the New jkay Stuff.

Yeap you are correct, actually most of the themes are Based on KJ3, KI8 and KI4, only few with those KI3 that is why I came to ask myself there difference.
Anyhow, very glad for all the replies.
Keep up
Any chance anyone can extract the KJ3 modem file? They didn't really show up anywhere.

So what's the easiest wat to get XEU CSC, get KG5 Firmware and the newest modem, my phone was originally on a Vodafone UK branded firmware and is now on KG6 it also has the XEU CSC. Thanks for any and all help.
If KG5 isnt the best then I have been thinking about villainrom, is that another way to go, which is best either 2.4.2 or 2.3 as I dont want the stock browser to lag and dont want to use a third party.
Thanks for any help.

"Easiest" way for your first request is a bit of mix-and-matching from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1058&order=desc&page=2
What is "best" or not is really up to you, but Revolution uses KG6, lag-free stock browser and is generally the dog's bollocks:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1171523
Very little real difference between any SGS firmware if truth be told likewise custom roms .

Hey,
Im running the GT-I9100T from Vodafone on Australia, currently running MIUI 1.8.19 and wish to flash to another modem other than the KH3 currently on here as the reception is less than good.
I was hoping to find the original KF4 modem shipped with the stock firmware available from kies, but alas could not find it. I only found KF2, or KG1 and above.. I was looking at this thread :
http://www.villainrom.co.uk/forum/s...II-Shipped-Radio-Collection?p=42051#post42051
for modems but was wondering who in Australia gets the best receptions with which modem?
Cheers!
EDIT : Can the modem.bin file from the original firmware downloaded through kies that is KF4 be extracted and placed in another rom to flash? or just flash through odin/cwm?

I'm with Optus and I find KH3 to be quite good for me. If you have the modem.bin file you can flash it through CWM, but you need to make it a flashable zip.
Otherwise you might be able to put it into another rom.
EDIT: The best way to find out which modem gives you the best reception is to test them out

No worries. Hope that works out for you.
I realize this is probably a stupid question but is KI8 the latest firmware out there ATM or is it KI4? I assumed that since 8 is higher than 4 that it is but generally all the new roms coming out use the latest firmware however most are using KI4, not KI8?
KI8 was the latest, now its KJ1. Build date 11/10/11 if I am not wrong. It's about stable though, not newer.
I saw something at the DarkyROMs forum, about KI8 being an updated KI4... And the developers prefer stable full releases... something about the letter codes in front dunno lol... but KI8 is actually the newer of the two...
your both wrong..KI4 is newer version than KI8 and that is only by a day new no biggie...go on Intratech's thread and you get all your details there...but running on both KI4 is more solid and stable

Lul I'm pretty sure its the KI8 which is newer by one day?
XWKI8 (Sept 28) is a couple of weeks newer than XWKI4 (Sept 14). AFAIK, XWKI8 is the newest official version where I live, Denmark.

You almost had me think I was wrong, because I used to think that KI4 was newer myself xP... and a lot of people does that... But ye the KI4 is better than the KI8 this is why its used by everyone rather than the KI8
What modem comes with KJ1? I see Intratech is putting KI3 with it, is this because there is no newer modem or KI3 is better?

well what about KI4 modem?
KI4 is the newest generic modem. Intratech used KI3 because he thinks it's better for battery life. Some other people also prefer it. There is a KJ1 modem but it is from a branded firmware. I don't know if there would be any difference from a generic modem.
I see lots of interest in kj1 but not kj2. Trying to decide which to try.the fact kj2 is an arabic rtl base does put me off a little

Can KI3 be downloaded for Indian version without Indian CSC???
Can someone be kind enough to help me find a link for XWLA4 modem? I can't seem to find one.
Thx

http://lmgtfy.com/?q=XWLA4+Stock+Kernel+download
Compatibility:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1131950
*Modems do not need to be matched up with firmware like it's done with ROMs and Kernels. For example, a KI4 modem can be used with a KL1 ROM and the other way round. The only thing you need to pay attention to is what model your SGS2 is. 9100 and 9100 modems are compatible across both models. However, 9100 model and US variants are not cross compatible since the devices are designed to work on different bands.
Modem is in the stock rom as well

What JJEgan said. Looks like XWLA4 stock ROM comes with an XXKI4 modem anyways.
thx both for trying to answer
First of all i need xwla4 modem not KERNEL.
Second, I know that it doesn't have to be the same with the rom but i had one with xwla4 and had very good battery life and that's why i want to install again xwla4 modem. I found a thread with modems but not the xwla4 one.

Did you read my post? Read it again. From what I can tell, stock XWLA4 firmware comes with XXKI4 MODEM.
Hi All,
I bought a used galaxy S2 I9100 yesterday, new to android.I have been a iphone user for 4 years and pretty aware of jailbreaking, unlocking installing custom firmwares. the terminology here in Android world is different though.
Have searched and read through different guides on the forum but still got some questions.
Model GT i900 LKAH3G
PDA i9100XWKE1
CSC I9100H3GKD4
Kernel 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKDD-CL161513 [email protected] # 2
Build Number GINGERBREAD.XWKE1
Looks like it was on Three network but it is unlocked mobile as i can use my airtel sim on the phone.
I dont want the Three network related stuff on the phone so i need to debrand the phone -- how to do it? there is guide on XDA forum but it talks primarily for O2 phones or might be i did not read it correctly. (there are also some options like the network mode which are disabled on this ROM )
Once debranding is done should i be ok to use any ROM or kernel?
Which would be best ROM to be installed and will it work for me in India.
Can i install the custom ROM and would i be able to install apps from the android Market.
If these have already been answered , can you please provide the link for that thread.
Thank You
I'd advice you to try the new ics roms, you can find the instructions inside the various rom threads, flashing these roms will get rid of the three junk as well as update your phone to the latest android os a.k.a ICS ..........
there is no such thing as a best rom for a specific country, but you can try different modems to find the one that gives you the best network and battery, you can find your modem under the baseband in about phone....
google for more info
happy flashing and welcome to Android we luf you here...........
Learn how to use Odin
Download stock gb from from checkfus or sammobile.
Flash using Odin, you will be unbranded.
After that root using cfroot, now learn how to use cfroot.
Now you can flash custom roms.

Hi KJplasma &atifsh
Thank you for the details.
can i install the below listed indian stock firmware using odin
PDA :I9100XWKE8 CSC:I9100ODDKE2
or do i need to install the firmware from UK
PDA :I9100XXKF2 CSC:MULTIOXAKF2
do i need to change the csc if i install the UK version?
Thanks
forget about csc.
if you have i9100 you can flash any region ROM and use in any country.
if you want Gb than go for la2 italy rom , iv used that and last time i check that was the fastest stock rom for GB
you can also flash ICS rom like uk lp7 too, just stay away from lp9 roms at the moment.
ad dont forget to wipe using the dialpad code *2767*3855#. [will wipe all data stored]

My friend dont go for LPJ that is unofficial beta release,
go for anything above LPQ on the sammobile firmware list ...
or pick anyone from here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487.
Thank you Zac and Atif.
I have tried to do a factory rest from the phone's privacy menu but even after everything is done, istill see some files in the gallery.
i tried the code *2767*3855# everything goes fine but i see the message "cant access to system\csc\h3g\system\" and then the phone strats as normal.
can i flash it to the OS even if i am getting this message using odin or do i need to
do something before i flash?
factory reset will not delete your user stored data on the SD card...that can be manually deleted...if you want
you can flash the OS from ODIN
thanks for the responses.
I have upgraded to I9100XWLP7_I9100XEULP, and its working fine. the only problem seems to be its heating a bit where the camera is located . will read more topics and see why this is happening.
thank You.

Yes though the newer dxlp9 was much better, previous one had bunch of issues including sleep of death.
Also that ROM introduces the contact/dialer lag bug. Which some how got to Google account and now every time I sync contacts it get back.
I deleted all my contacts and synced again and it's all better, tried on dxlp9 and was working fine, than I switched to my regular cm9.

For a start, if you remember your last ROM that doesn't had heat issues, flash that modem. Doesn't matter if you use GB modem on ics.
I flashed the modem of my region xxki4 which is 2.3.5 jpkj2 and had no issues of heat in ics.
