i'm looking for a 7" tablet, it doesn't have to be top of the line, i was actually thinking of picking up a $25 chinese tablets.
basically, all i want to do with it, is make it my dedicated xbmc remote. so i want to strip it out, and just use the xbmc app on it.
any ideas where i can get a cheap tablet? and any where i can find resources on rooting it and hacking it?

Ello,
With the new deals out I'm stuck debating weather to get the lapdock or get the HP touch for the same price as that lapdock deal currently out. Is it worth it to get the dock over another device? is my real question. I already have webtop fully set with xfce a 15gb partition the image mounts for Debian and mostly don't even use the hdmi deskdock anymore just use my vnc method. So dock or hp touch, I'm leaning to HP touch but mostly its the keyboard on the lapdock that has me stuck. How you guys liking your docks? and anyone that has the HP touch wanna add two cents about thier thoughts I'd appreciate it.
Hey Djazin,
It doesn't really matter on how we like our docks, what matters is what you prefer. You can compare them: http://www.phonearena.com/phones/compare/HP-TouchPad,Motorola-ATRIX-4G/phones/5201,4982
Then ask yourself:
1. Do I want a Tablet or Netbook?
2. Which one will be easier for you to use?
3. I can get the lapdock for 100$ and the Touchpad for 500$, which one can I afford and still have money for other stuff.
4. Will I still like and want to use it after a while?
5. Do I want a touch keyboard or physical keyboard?
6. Which one will benefit me more?
Read about them, and since the lapdock has full linux it can second as a netbook.
Regards, Alaq..
I was wondering if anyone can tell me if there was a app that would enable you to use the NT as drawing pad (ie a bamboo tablet for example)? I ask because i tend to do work with Photoshop and would find convenient to be able to use the nook tablet to work as a drawing tablet so i can use it to make fine edits.
For that reason, simply controlling the desktop doesn't work quite that well as it has a lag so it makes getting detail drawings difficult.
I am just curious if it is even possible to do it, as i feel like their are others who would enjoy this functionality too, so if their isn't a app to do it, maybe it would be worth while for someone to make it and sell it.
I have the bamboo tablet. Probaably not worth trying to kludge the nootlet to do the job of a dedicated drawing tablet ... same reason you wouldn't try to use the nootlet as a replacement for a mouse.

Hi, I've been thinking about buying a budget Android tablet for a while, but mixed reviews of things like the AndyPad put me off. I now have the opportunity to pick up a used Archos 101 Internet Tablet for about £100 (so inside budget territory) but I can't figure out whether this is a gen8 or gen9 device. I think it's a gen8 as it originally came with FroYo and the screen resolution is only 1024x600, but could just do with someone who knows more about them confirming that, I'm wondering what the chances are of a newer OS coming out for this device.
Even if it's the older gen8 version, is it worth a go for £100 anyway and just put a third-party ROM onto it to get the features I want? Cheers!

this would be the Gen8 tablet, there is very little chance of a newer OS coming to it officially but there are a few projects including getting gingerbread running and also a few people are trying to get ICS to boot
Thanks for confirming that, I've been reading up this morning and it seems like while they were a good purchase a while back, I might be better off with something slightly better specced (more RAM) and with a bit more support. Now tempted by an Advent Vega which is also for sale locally, a little bit more money but better specifications and they already have a working (very well, from what I can gather) Honeycomb port, with ICS well on the way. Thanks for your response though
I think is better buy the g9 .. it's new, use honeycomb and not froyo like the g8 and... Archos have say that upgrade the g9 to ics!
I recently have run into Droidmote. I have a good setup at home but wanted to use my Asus Transformer as the mouse and keyboard. Took me 2 weeks to really find something that worked. Not sure if anyone is interested but I thought this was a cool find. Definitely worth the $2. Just put this on your Photon (or other android device) https://market.android.com/details?id=org.videomap.droidmoteserver
Also posted one of my worst videos of my life posted on youtube lol, due to me being too excited. This is also the same dock I purchased for $29.99 btw

Hi,
my mom won a crazy 55" Panasonic TV, one of the brand new models running on Firefox OS. Not bad , since she needed a new one anyway. But I want to bring this thing to the internet now, I'm always scared of stuff I can't control so the question is simple: Are there chances to get root access or at least a way to install apps running as root or whatever? Or forget about it and buy a Android Settop Box? I mean I'm interested in this new thing from Mozilla, looks promisiong and runs very smooth, stable and all that from what I can tell at this point although it doesn't seem to have a shell but Android is so damn easy, mouse and keyboard are no problem (and would cost a few bucks to get it in this case, too but that's not the problem).
OK, not rootable in terms of getting SU like access the way it works on other platforms but a very open platform, that allows a lot by default (don't know if I failed because of permissions or stuff I tried isn't possible at all...I mean it's a TV...) if you're interested read on here:

How to connect to your TV with Mozialls WebIDE
Not sure if it's step forward until now but it's a damn interesting new toy to play around with.
