Mod stock Mobile Hotspot? - HTC Rezound

I remember that we were able to modify the stock mobile hotspot for the Droid Inc and the Droid Eris.
I did it before I rooted and it worked out great on my Dinc, I was wondering if this were still possible on the Rezound?

you can get into the menu but can't change the nam settings. Rotten SOB's!!

USB Tether

I thought these phones natively support USB tethering. Can anyone comment on their experience with it?
My RAZR Maxx is on order, and I'll test it when I get it.
USB tether is supported on my GSM XT910. No idea about the CDMA Razr Maxx.
I have the app on my cdma verizon phone but havent used it yet.
Works well on my GSM XT910, (SEAOP) stock.
Ummm how do you use it?
plug it in and there's a menu or something?
Plugin the phone
Menu - Settings - wireless & Network. - Tethering & Hotspot - USB Tethering
The network will appears if needed drivers are installed.

And then the computer uses the internet conection of the razr.. but the other way round seems to be only possible with a lot of working around. Isn't that really possible without software and stuff?
I use PDAnet on my phone all the time. It's very easy to use and you don't have to be rooted to use it either. Also try Easy Tether.

The point is that USB tether is included, so why use an app?
I think Verizon cdma makes u pay for tethering
Pdanet works good...i paid for it back in the day...then some super cool devs starting making it work for free...yay....no more apps

I also have a RAZR XT912 that I would like to enable WiFi tethering on. I assume I will have to root it. I'm on Verizon in the U.S. I'm reading through the RAZR forums now.
I use FoxFi for wifi tethering on my Razr MAXX. It is in the play market. I am rooted on stock ICS ROM but FoxFi says you don't need root.

I just installed Wireless Tether for Root Users [https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=android.tether and it works great. Seems pretty fast even on 3G.
I rooted with the DroidRazrRoot.com_ICS.zip kit and that went smooth as well. You have to remember to install the Motorola drivers for the phone first and that was mostly waiting. This was on windows 7.

Entitlement Hack Glitch "Turning Mobile Hotspot on..."
Hi all,
I just switched to the Droid Razr Maxx from my Verizon Droid X (with unlimited data). I used FoxFi to tether the Droid X. Now I have implemented the Entitlement Hack on my rooted XT912 and it worked fine for a couple of days, but now when I try to activate Mobile Hotspot the process hangs up at "Turning Mobile Hotspot on..." and doesn't do anything further. The same thing happens when I try to go back to FoxFi. Does anyone have any experience with this problem?
I'm using Bluetooth to tether to my Nexus 7 in the meantime and I'm impressed with speed of Bluetooth 4.0. It appears to be about twice as fast as 3G.
Thanks very much.

Try clearing the cache of the that app, or doing a dalvik wipe as well. Last but not least, wipe the data of that app. You can do the cache wipes in your custom recovery or via a terminal emulator.

Hi Auronis1, I'm sorry but I cannot recall precisely what the fix was. I'm guessing that it was installing Cynogenmod 10 a few months ago. I am now on CM 11 M9 and tethering works fine with my XT 912.

Are you using Safestrap? v3.7x? If so, revert to Safestrap v3.65 and your hotspot will work with the stock rom again.

Does 3.7x cause issues with wifi?? I have an wifi issue with auto connection and i use 3.7x.
That worked!
Mike, you are the man! Reverting back to safestrap 3.65 fixed my hotspot issue (using entitlement hack) on my Droid 4.
Thanks!

I tinkered abit around my droid RAZR xt912. My hotspot is working fine and I didn't do the entitlement hack.... there are some few things I'm trying to understand about the phone but still looking around its system folder.

[Q] Wifi Tether with root access on ME7

Hey everyone I am new here and this is my first post, let me start off by saying I am new to rooting as this is my first rooted android phone, but have owned several android devices including Motorola droid 2, droid bionic, droid razr, with a mistake with the iPhone 5, and now trying out the new galaxy s4 out and back with an android device, with that being said I have rooted my galaxy s4 with VRUAME7 on it for one of the main reasons of getting free Wi-Fi hotspot to run my tablet off of. I have tried everything I know and can find info on to enable the hotspot with no luck even the trev mod Wi-Fi tether with no luck, can anyone help me out with this and any tips and so forth for using my phone rooted, thanks in advance

Only one that worked for me was FoxFi (Padnet) Uhh i think the free version is limited. I dont use any tethering myself but i normally use "Wifi Tether" and i could not get that working correctly. Could possibly be because the mobile hotspot is used internally by FoxFi but regular "Wife Tether" Might not have the permission writes possibly since we are only rooted

I tried using that mod and so forth following it step by step and I could not get it working properly, I got my phone a few days ago and it came with me7 loaded and im wondering if they have an added block on it, on the bright side I did find a post under another category of threads named wifi tether and there was a user that posted how he used portable wifi tether from the play store and he said install it run it and set up your encryption then to exit out of it, then to use it click the app and it will start when verizon throws up the error message hit the home button and only the home button, the hotspot stays on and running that simple, I tried connecting my desktop and ipad and it works properly as far as I can tell so far, I know I kinda answered my own question but figured I would share with you all as well, but any other pointers or cool apps are welcomed since I and my wife are both new to rooting as she also has a galaxy s4

I used FoxFi (the paid version) on my other S4 that is ME7 and had no problems with it. Just read their info in the Play store and it will tell you what to put in FoxFi to use it without the certificate and lock screen. You'll get the VZW message that you have to call and set it through them but you don't. Just leave the message up and the WiFi tether worked just fine.

I didn't look into how to get past the certificate with FoxFi. I just installed the certificate, setup the lock screen then I used Tasker with Secure Settings to disable the passkey. So far I've used FoxFi several times and haven't seen a lockscreen. I setup Tasker with a simple Screen On and a 24hr cooldown to run Secure Settings > Clear Password. Seems to work fine for me for those who are bugged by the FoxFi and password.

WiFi tethering hack/app

I just got the HTC one yesterday. I'm coming from a galaxy note 2. I not the unlimited data plan that I believe come with 500 mb tethering. But clearly I don't want to spend an extra 15 a month for only 2 gb. Is there an app or a hack that will allow me to tether/use the one as a hotspot like the galaxy note?

If you're already rooted, you can use the WiFi tentering app by CWM on the play store ( yellow WiFi icon). Just change the device profile to wlan0 and check the this option after the MAC spoofing section( can't remember the name right now haha.

i THINK i did that already. not exactly sure what that last step meant lol. but i am rooted, and have treve mod on it. and have all the settings in it set. though when i use it as a hotspot, the data shows up under the tethering section on the tmobile account app. the only way ive found around it is using vpn shield. then the data isnt collected. BUT the problem with that is that it knocks down speeds considerably
What version of android do you have? I got it to work on 4.2.2 with the newest version of wifi tether for root users that has the option to not send tether command and I got it to work without enabling native tethering on the system.

I'm in the same boat as you with an unlimited data plan but I'm getting blocked for tethering. On my HTC One S there was a file I used to flash in TWRP that unlocked the APNs using the stock ROM when rooted. . But I have not found anything like that for the One yet.
I have read of some people using SQLite to edit the phones carrier list on other phones. But I'm not a developer and I don't know if that would work on this phone or not.
Just throwing an idea out there since the thread is here.

I got the stock hotspot app to work again. I had to go ahead and unlock my bootloader at HTCDev, flash TWRP recovery, flash a custom ROM (which I did NOT want to do), and add a different APN to get it to work again. I flashed the Revolutionary ROM, which is pretty close to a stock M7 ROM with a few minor tweaks. Has the same stock feel. Even on this ROM, the fast.t-mobile.com APN will block tethering and give you the page to add it to your plan. But if you add the old epc.tmobile.com APN, it will save and not switch back to the fast.t-mobile APN. Also, the APNs are not locked, you can delete it if you want.
I'm just testing out this ROM right now to see if I can get the same kind of battery life I get with the stock ROM. This is the main concern for me. The stock ROM got me 3 days of use out of the device. That's unheard of on any Android device I've ever used. If I have to spend weeks working out bugs and flashing different kernels, I'm going to run the RUU and return my device back to stock and continue searching for a way to modify my stock ROM or just give up and use one of those clunky slow apps in the market place.
But basically, you just need to find a way to unlock the APNs and you can get wifi tethering/hotspot to work natively.
Did anyone get Wifi Tether to work with 4.3 ROM? It did not for me. I am s-off.

Doesn't work for me either. It did with 4.2.2. I get an error when I try to close the Wifi Tether connection saying my phone is currently in an unknown state and prompts me to reboot.
Not sure how to solve this...
