Nokia Lumia - Best Pocket Camcorder - Nokia Lumia 800

I know by posting this I've not just stepped over the fanboy line - I've run and jumped over it, but I thought this might be interesting to share.
In the Independent's (a UK newpaper) Tech Blog, the Nokia Lumia 800 is listed as the Number 1 pocket camcorder. All other of the top ten are actual camcorders - this is the only phone listed and it's number 1.
Does it deserve it's position? (I don't have one so I couldn't comment).
http://www.independent.co.uk/life-s...es/the-10-best-pocket-camcorders-6267090.html

I wouldnt say its the best camcorder if you go up against actual cam corders but then this same report puts the Bush Mini at number 2. It is however the best I have used on a phone and is really quite good.

I think that's why they've called it "pocket" camcorder - rather than just a general camcorder

I see you point but still im not convinced esp from an article that puts the Bush Mini at number 2 i have played with this in argos and its rubbish, nothng more than a kids toy. To mention kids toys they also have the hello kitty one in the list!
Dont get me wrong i am in no way hateing i own a Lumia and have been obsessed with nokia wp7 since they first announced it way back when. I love it and the camera is amazing. I just think the article may be a bit iffy is all.

Don't spend your all your money on the camcorder at this point. Get experience first. I would suggest getting the Canon ZR960. It is a miniDV camcorder which will allow you to easily upload and edit your video on MovieMaker (PC) or iMovie on Apple. The ZR960 also allows you to use an external microphone, one of the few at that price that do.

Hero v. G1...

I have been dual booting my Kaiser as of the last couple weeks, and have fallen in love with Android. When it works, which it does about 90% of the time, it is 100x better than WM. All I find myself longing for is the stabilty of an actual Android specific phone.
I have a couple questions for those of you that have experience with the Hero, as well the G1...
Hero questions (And please forgive me if search would answer some of these, my google search didn't net any direct comparisons of the Hero and G1 in a true personal use sense, just passing in reviews, and I didn't find much on XDA other than hardware comparisons):
1. How well does the onscreen keyboard work? Are there apps out there that give a bigger better keyboard, or is the pre-installed already as good as it gets? I do a decent amount of typing, from couple paragraph work emails to IM with the lady.
2. How would you rate the screen image quality in person? I am not a snob when it comes to 'spec' numbers, what I care about is how it actually looks, ie clear and crisp.
3. How is the video playback?
If you have owned/ used a G1, could you compare the Hero directly with the G1 as well.
Basically, I am trying to decide between the two, or possibly the Samsung Galaxy. I do like a physical keyboard, so i have been leaning towards the G1 because of that, but the spec sheets on the Hero are far superior. So if the onscreen keyboard flies well, I will likely take that route then.
strange that you totally don't care about/aware of the voice quality of a phone.

Pretty much every review out there already covers call quality, and it isn't at the top of my list, to say the least. I type much more than I actually talk on my phone. The only time I make phone calls is to my dad to let him know I am on my way, and to my manager for imediete approval of an exception for a customer. And I have to use my BB at work (I sell cell phones, and they gave us one for free, but we have to use them at work).
This is mostly a treat for myself, and will be used mainly for web browsing, IM with the lady, video playback, and messing around with android in general.
The on screen keyboard is actually good and its so forgiving , also I think you can install other keyboard from the android market , the screen is ok ( I had an iphone before and the iphone's one is better ) also the samsung has a better screen ( samsung!! ) , the hero is my first android phone so really I can't compare it for you , but I will say go for the better hardware (magic ,hero) so you make sure if there are updates you will get them .
The keyboard is superb! By far the best on screen keyboard I have ever used.
It fixes most typos or mis-presses. very impressive.
The screen quality isn't groundbreaking, but is very nice. Personally I don't need anything better.
The Oleophobic coating (anti fingerprint) on the screen works as advertised.
I barely have the need to wipe the screen. It's actually very cool.
I haven't tried video playback yet, but I heard that it's not that good.
All I can tell you is the Hero plays the Intro video that it comes with perfectly.
All in all a very good/impressive phone.
The user experience is very good.
HTC have earned some extra credit points with me.

[Q] To Buy or not to Buy (X10 responsiveness))

Hi, i know that for some of you buying an X10 right now is kind of pointless because there are a lot of available new phones but at the moment it's the only decent android device (1Ghz CPU) my carrier (Movistar Uruguay (movistar.com.uy)) is offering and is actually the best phone any carrier here is bringing. Buying an Unlocked one is out of question because of the insanely high prices (Galaxy S U$S ~1500) and no one i know is going to the US any time soon. So i can get the X10 in Movistar here at the same price of the X10 unlocked in the US (still pretty expensive).
Enough of background, i had the chance to try the Desire (U$S 1200! (tic.com.uy/HTC/)) and i found it to be snappier and more responsive than the X10. I mean, the Desire experience was what i expected but the X10 let me somewhat disappointed. Specially when sliding through the home screens and list scrolling. I can compare the Desire with the iPhone 3GS but the X10 seems it's below that. Even in Youtube videos.
Has anyone experienced that too? I know it was running Donut but nonetheless it felt like my firend's nokia 5230 or even the Samsung Star (which i think is also s5230). Heck, even the X8 running donut felt snappier. Maybe I'll go give it another try but this is kind of the only thing stopping me now with pinch n zoom around the corner and custom Froyo eventually available.
Sorry if i made it too long but i want to get my bang from my bucks. Hopefully while i make up my mind some other devices are going to be available, but now all the attention is in the iPhone 4 and RIM over here. Not so much on android.
Thanks for reading.
I liked X10 work pretty well but I have to say 384mb of ram may not be enough for play
I really bad thing is flash does not work
go for galaxy S i9000
Thanks for the quick reply but did you read what i said? 1500 US dollars for the galaxy. I mean, I tried it. it's great, gorgeous, but to my pocket it's not U$S 1000 better.
What i want to know is about the lag when panning and scrolling, because is practically the same hardware as the desire but the response in the desire is perfect.
Which games aren't suited for 384mb? is there a lot of difference? I don't plan to do hardcore gaming either. just some angry birds or something like that. I just want to get a good android experience like syncing, browsing, video, music, some drawing, etc.

If you wanna a solid long lasting device - buy X10. If you wanna play around with tech and change gadgets as fast as they appear at the market and go fashionable - don't buy X10. Simple.
SE is a kind of Rolls Royce here.
I want a solid lasting device but that kind of things are ceasing to exist, that's why i'm aiming to a high end right now which will be considered mid range in a year or too.
I like SE, my first phone was a K310 and only changed it when i got my G705(now flashed to W715).
But again, what i really want to know is if anyone here was able to use the X10 and compared it to a similar specs phone (Desire, N1, SGS, Milestone) and found the X10 considerably slower/laggier than the others, if it's something which was fixed in 2.1 or not at all.
I repeat: I want to get it, but want to be sure, but don't want to be disappointed.

As i said in the first post, i'm bound to what my carrier offers and right now the only high-end android it's the xperia. The smartphone market here it's very small at the moment, it's growing and the carriers are noticing it. But it's very much about iPhone, RIM and some Nokias (n95, 5230).
Is it possible for any Mod to change the thread name?
[Q] Is X10 laggier than similars? (Planing to buy)
Thanks
Try to read this post ^_^
I don't have and haven't tried other phone you mention but my X10i is very responsive and can accommodate all my need. I play Angry birds, and even Pocket Legend. ^^
If you wait until after christmas, I can buy a new x10 or captivate/i9000m for you and ship it to you for under $600 (unlocked). Even with duties and whatnot, you should still come out paying a lot less!
I say AFTER Christmas because I don't feel like lining up at the post office
The I9000m is the model with a front facing camera (2cams) and FM radio built-in (the captivate doesn't have either of those), but the captivate is the better option for you. It is a bit more sturdy, isn't known to have a large failure rate for internal memory like the i9000m, and there are ROMs coming out the whazzuu for it Also this phone is silky smooth when cycling through backgrounds, meanwhile the x10 is limited to 32fps until somebody does something about it.
The X10 is the better option if you want an even more solid device, MUCH BETTER GPS (much much better), a notification LED, and camera LED and an overall better camera.
People did some tests in which showed the galaxy S camera is better in many types of light but if you fiddle with the manual settings, the X10 camera is considerably better!

Thank you, can't wait to give it another try tomorrow at the store and with a lot of hope it performs right.
Have you seen any performance improvement since 1.6 or by removing SE apps?
I know i'm being too nitpicky but i can't stand even a half second lag when scrolling and swyping. I watched all the videos in yt and gsmarena and in 1.6 they always touch, stop and then slowly move the fingers like they have to wait for the phone to keep up, and even then the thing they're moving stays behind the finger... in 2.1 gets better but it's still not like desire.
That said i'd probably get it next week if nothing else is offered in the next few days.
Thank you again to all.

Even Swiss bank doesn't give any guarantees. Forget it. Take what you like more. And don't stick to specs - they says nothing. I used to post it in another thread, but it fits here too:
"I have maybe a little politically incorrect point of view on the cell phone (and other technical stuff) design. It is about the culture. Not about "don't littering", but about engineering. Ericsson (and Sony Ericsson) has pretty long history that gave them experience. HTC, Samsung, etc are relatively young and most of their problems are rooted there. Look - overall satisfaction for X10 without the last technology bells and whistles like OLED or multitouch is higher, than hi-tech-packed rival's devices. Why? Because according to the experience, they realize, that it is impossible to be perfect and it is better to concentrate to ergonomics issues. The device should be easy-to-use, foolproof and hard-to-break. That can be understood through the long experience of analyzing how it works through the life of the device. Typical life of Samsung is around a year. My friend changes around 5 or 6 phones (3 or 4 of them were Samsungs), when I used the same SE k790a. And it works fine for now. Another conclusion is to buy a flagship. Budget devices of any manufacturer always have issues. I know, all those galaxies are claimed to be top-models, flagships, bla-bla-bla. But I bet, some months of using reminds you my note about engineering experience."

It is globalization here, dude. You can buy anything you want at ebay, for example. And price won't be $1200 or something like this. If you want something you like, you should pay for that. My carrier is T-Mobile US and over years it has never had any phones I'd like to have, particularly no one SE flagship. So I bought them somewhere else. You are lucky - your carrier has X10, so take it. iPhone, as any Apple's creation, is traditionally overpriced and underdeveloped. RIM is too corporate-conservative, but has pretty good niche there. Nokia is done technologically until they wake up and forget their stoneaged Symbian, but they are budget-market monsters, you don't want them. And you forgot Motorola. From time to time they launch amazingly good devices.

I'm talking about the price I can get it unlocked here, in Uruguay, where phones, pcs, cameras and tvs cost 2x the MSRP in the US, not the ebay or amazon price. It's very different the way in wich prices drop, in the US the prices stay at the MSRP for maybe 2 months and then they get great cuts. Here, if today the GalaxyS costs $1200 then one year from now it may keep at 1000. Oh, i love customs taxes!
Good thing is that if i buy it now i can sell it in a year for about the same price i'm getting it today.
*sigh!* Enough of third world depressing stories.

Oops, I forgot about miracles of third, fourth and other worlds... It is so easy to accustom to good things and forget other realities... I know what you mean - my friends from Russia always ask me to buy something for them if they plan to go to the US. They are able to avoid taxes, when bring things with them. Post service in Russia is a complete disaster. If death could be delivered by mail, people would never die in Russia - it would be delivered after world's end or just stolen.
And bribes are always lower, than taxes. I bet you know that.
A great cosmic joke:
Went to my local Movistar decided to give the X10 another try.
Me: Hello, I'm interested in renewing my contract and i would like to see the X10 please. (in spanish and less formal of course)
Movistar Employee: no can do sir there's no stock until Jan 1st.
Me: oh cr%#p!
About the Post Service
Actually the post service here it's not bad at all, I receive books and blurays from amazon in about a week. But books, magazines, cds, dvds and blurays have no tax but everything else over $100 has $150 of tax + ~50% of the cost. So for buying something at $101 in the US I have to pay roughly $300. It's great!
I usually get my electronics in the US when someone close travels but no one is going to for a while.
What really matters
We're going off-topic here. plain and simple:
1- Is the X10 touchscreen as laggy as in YT videos or is there a way to fix it?(custom ROMs with Jit seen on YT are also affected)
2- Is it only on the home and unlock screen or also applications suffer from this? Someone said that fast games were unbearable because of the slow response.
3- Is it normal that when typing fast the device skips some tappings?
Pleeeease, I really like the X10 but i'll be stuck with it for 1-2 years and $500 will be stripped from my pocket. I know the overall experience is great but I need to have instant feedbak of what i'm doing. I'd hate to treat a supposed to be high end phone with capacitive screen like a low end one with resistive screen: press, then sloooowly move the finger to where you want, then when the object is where you want, (sure?) then release. Sense UI can do it, even in lower specs phones and even the other SE X8 and X10 mini do better.
Alright, flame me if i'm being an a$$ but i reaaally want to get an android phone and start playing with custom ROMs and be a contributing part to the community. I'll do it but someone pleeease honestly answer this questions first. The faster you answer, the faster i'll decide.

It reminds me old good Soviet time of total deficit: If you see something good, grab it first, then think if you need it.
Try Movistar's office somewhere in the middle of nowhere. I mean in low income areas - they still can have some expensive gadgets at shelves. Come on, I remember those tricks, but you use them in everyday life, like a gift for the salesman or just palms oiling.

I have a good news for you - buy your lovely X10 in parts that cheaper, than $100 and assemble them home. You'll proudly can have a sticker on it - "Hand made". It is a little complicated and risky, but you can ask your seller to claim that this device is out of order, for parts and cost less, than $100. And, of course, with two separate transactions.

Never experienced this, but once the touchscreen overreacted at any touch and made some crazy things. I turned the phone off and after reboot it never happen again. Some lags can be in browser, but I think, it is not because of touchscreen, but partially downloaded pages. Same problem can be in YT videos since they are real time streams.

I mentioned already overreaction - just before it went completely crazy, there was double and tripple typing errors. I tapped once, but it produced two or three taps - letters or backspaces. It was once and it doesn't look like regular specifically X10 problem. Out of extreems - maybe I type slow at the phone, but it works fine for me.
I tried my friend's LG enV Touch VX11000 - I hate it - requires hard press and pretty laggy. I had iPhone - it works almost the same for me as X10 - fast reaction of touchscreen and interface both.

As you mention, every member of Xperia family works different, so I assume, that those differences are from the actual set of running programs and services. If you are going to play with custom ROMs, you always can modify your phone for faster work or for fancier view. I think, the X10 is the best hardware guinea pig for those purposes especially after the bootloader cracking.

There's no lag for me at all. But I use Startup Auditor and Advance Task killer when I first boot or reboot my X10. It's too fast that sometimes when I am slow to type, it will type two of the same letter before i can lift my finger on the keys...
My X10 doesn't lagg, it's fast. With and without JIT.
But with the snow live wallaper it laggs sometime on the homescreen, maybe because of Launcher Pro Plus...
But owners of the Desire posted the same I think.

Professional Camera Use

I was just wondering are there any graphic designers / photographers on here that would consider using a photo taken on the galaxy s2 for their professional work?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
I suspect that they would given that the photo was well taken, because the camera is pretty good if you ask me
I've done some professional photography work. SGS2 photos, well taken (as Regretful mentioned) , could definitely be offered professionally.
Well it depends what for, and frankly no, not really . For stuff like newspaper editorial or web use it might just about do. However for anything like proper advertising, event photography or landscape/travel stuff erm no, no chance ever. It's a decent enough point and shoot but that's it... tiny sensor, no proper manual controls, no lenses, no off-shoe flash, it would also never survive the sort of use we put our gear through and I could go on and on and on...
Thanks for the replies, that gives me something to go on. I'm a graphic/packaging/web designer myself and I'm looking to advance my photography skills. I just needed to get past the mental block that if a photo opertunity presented itself when I didn't have my DSLR camera on me, then it wasn't worthwhile taking my galaxy s2 out of my pocket. Perhaps for some things it may just about do
Does anyone know of any good photography communities on the web?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
How a Mobile camera and the word Professional goes together?
I'm not sure that's why I'm asking here, I suppose there is that age old saying that 'it's not the camera but the person behind the camera that counts'. I do remember seeing however a news story a while back about a older well respected world class photographer who was doing a photo shoot with a mobile phone and I'm sure the mobile he used wasn't a scratch on the galaxy s2.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
You'd be much better served by pretty much any digital compact. The S2 has an OK camera for quick snaps and what not, but it's still a phone camera with all the limitations that implies.

Now that's different better to have some pictures than none if you come across something you think is worth shooting, and in this case I wouldn't hesitate to use the phone but for a paid job, I'll stick to the proper gear

There's your answer, an album containing photographs taken with an iphone!
The book btw is widely available - printed or as a virtual print, so here you see the golden rule for success in photography still applies:
1. To be there = 75%
2. To know how = 20%
3. To have the gear = 5%
So the gear - an iphone, sgs2, nokia 3210 (if it had a camera), canon 5dmkII - practically doesn't matter! It's you, your skills, knowledge etc.. makes the difference.
If you know your gear's strenghts and weaknesses (huge depth of field for instance) you may actually use it to your favour.
So go and shoot, shoot, shoot!
All the best.

You can take a good picture with any camera - that much is true. However what we are discussing here is professional use to earn a living... and a mobile will just not do.
For example, I used to shoot a lot of motosport... your mobile will not have the reach, your mobile will not be able to focus fast enough and keep focus, your mobile will not survive long if you have to shoot in the rain all day, your mobile will not survive long if you have to take close to 1000 pictures in a day. How are you going to have decent pictures if you cannot manually change your settings for example if there's big dark clouds overhead, cars have headlights on and to get a good exposure you're going to need to shoot 800 f2.8 iso 800?
Then you have to look at the actual quality of the pictures (not whether it's a good shot or not) and what it's going to be used for.
And then there's the fact that earning your living from photography isn't about taking the best picture in the world every time you press the shutter, it's about delivering what your client requires every time without fail. You simply cannot say that you can't do x or y shot because your phone camera isn't capable of delivering what they want.
I whished to repost the asked link but the weird policy of this site does not agree with it ;-) (as it is also not possible for newcomers to post on the real forums of their concern ! Never seen this before )
Anyway it seems to me obvious that the number 1 quality of a recording device is to be available when you need it... professionnal or not
picture quality is an issue but the one of SGS2 is very good. Better than many compact dedicated cameras
Very big no from me...
1. No aperture control on it (as with all android cam s/w, not open or I would have made an app ) (or shutter time etc)
2. Dire stop range in latitude of the image (compensated for with f/w by quite harsh contrast i think)
3. No RAW image data, be pointless with the sensor neways
4. No Focus control (control does not = touch the screen )
5. No external flash or way to sync to external flashes with speeeeeed
There are loads more, but they are my top 5
Thanks for all your options and the link, it's certainly given me some food for thought I think what I had in mind was an image no larger than A5, maybe A4 max to be used along side my graphics. If anything it will give me an excuse to practice my composition and for more advanced things and paid work my DSLR will be there.
Does anyone know of any good photography forums/communities they could point me to? This has given me an idea to see how good of an image I can catch with the gs2. If I get anything I think could be worthwhile I'll post it here and if anyone else is up for it I'll be very interested in what they can achieve. All the best, happy snapping

Oh ****, I know some photography-addicts that don't want to hear anything about photo's made by mobile phones. Nothing compares to a good quality camera with huge lenses that allow you to change the focus.
I do have to say playing with the focus on one of those cameras sure looks badass and makes the picture speak a lot more.

First Day With Lumia 920 and WP8

I bought a new Lumia 920 yesterday and after one day im loving it. The lumia is not my first Windows Phone device. I previously had an HD2 with WP7, HD7 with 7.5 also a Samsung Focus Flash. I always liked the look of WP but could never stick around with it because lack of features (multitasking, front cam, lack of quality apps.)
So far im really enjoying the phone, its one of the best i have owned and i have owned every major OS and flagship phone in the last 5 yrs. The camera easily beats my old 4S and One X for best camera i have had on a phone and i really love the build quilty and weight to the phone.
The only problem I have with the phone is the same one that has been repeated over and over...Apps. While I have pretty much found replacements for the main ones i use on my Galaxy Nexus, there are others I miss. Namely Instagram (great camera like this needs instagram.) And all my google apps. Im a hardcore google user, from mail to G+. i have a shortcut for G+ pinned to my start screen but its not the same.
Pros:
Great Camera
Great Screen and Sensetivity
Good Sound
WP is coming along nicely
Cons:
Google Apps (For Me)
While i have returned every Windows Phone i have had in the past I plan on sticking with the Lumia and see what comes of Windows Phone.
I was also happy with my Purchase experiance at my local AT&T store. I had my usual rep help me who has sold me and took returns of phones i have bought over the years and he was actually pretty good and knew a lot about the 920. I was also happy to receive my wireless charger because i believe i read somewhere that they were sold out.
I, too, just got a Lumia 920 alongside my Galaxy S 3. I like it a lot.
The integration with my work Outlook and Lync is top-notch.
The Skydrive integration is a lot nicer than the detached feeling I get with Google Drive.
In my tests so far, the camera is stellar! I am truly impressed with the clarity of photos even in a dark room.
I echo the lack of Google Apps. The lack of a native Google Music, most notably. Also, I've been an OLED screen user going on about 4 years now (ever since the Zune HD) so the lack of rich blacks on this screen is taking some getting used to, but that's not that big of a deal.
Will it help? I doubt it but here's a petition you can sign to get Google to add their popular apps to Windows Phone.
http://www.change.org/petitions/goo...utm_medium=facebook&utm_source=share_petition
I've had the phone for a day now as well and my verdict is exactly the same. It's a shame there's no native support for Google Apps, specifically Google Talk and Google Voice, apps I use a lot. The transition will be hard but I think it'll be worthwhile.
This is one of the device i am aiming, one thing bothered me is the battery life.
Google, Apple and Microsoft are all competitors. The best thing you can do is stick to standards. You can get a domain and email package for a small fee and be totally independent of all these petty morons.

MetroTalk is a great app for Google Voice. Worth a buck or so.
I have it on good authority that Instagram is going to be baked into the OS at some stage and I hope it's true, even though I currently no longer have a WP.

My battery life is stellar. It's as good as the One X and S3 I previously owned. The only other device I've owned with better battery life is the Note 2.
Gona get flamed... Here
Yes the hardware is howsome
Yes WP8 seems great and I feel it become soon the leading OS somehow a very credible alternative.
But I feel sad it is totally in locked in syndrome
Got it for few bucks but locked to orange FR
No carrier unlock joy so far... Not big deal for me as I got it mainly for development toying... Left windows phone 6 and currently on android and thought it be open I mean just develop and debug on device directly... But nop... Need to have good HW and worth hyper-v conflict with virtual box on my main machine .... Debug on a VM machine.. Yea right...
I don't under that one that buy phone cannot put what he/she wish on it(not taking pirate soft here) but start develop and debug on device directly...and when ready publish.. Instead need to pay $99 that is not the issue really it's just to be forced to do it is not right IMO...
This stuff needs get out of jail else its just be a nice phone and camera plus nice music player nothing as special and open as android is right now. BTW no decent dlna for the moment.

Thinking of switching

So as of late, I have been seriously considering switching to a 920 after using android for awhile, and I was wondering how some of you guys feel about the 920, specifically if you have come from Android. Main thing really holding me back is the new hardware put out like the Xperia Z, HTC One, or the S4. Your thoughts?
I had been using android non stop since like 2010 and honestly i got a bit bored of it (and a was quite a flashaholic). WP8 is amazingly fluid and i absolutely love the build quality of the 920. The only real downside is lack of apps. I currently switch between my 920 and my Nexus 4 because i can't decide which to sell.

Coming from a EVO 4g - I don't miss Android, but I did miss Google Maps at first. I have gotten used to Nokia Maps and Drive though and now like them quite a bit. Overall I like Windows Phone better. I have all the apps I need, so the smaller number of apps doesn't bother me. I think the quality of apps is much better on windows. I have not seen a better phone than the 920. The screen is by far the best I have ever used. The camera and video is amazing. I have not seen all the phones you mentioned though.
I bought a Galaxy S2 outright about a year and a half ago. Came from Apple and android was just the best thing that happened to me. So sick of Apple's ball and chain. Anyway, my contract with Telstra recently allowed me to get a new phone. I was going to go with the Galaxy Note II, but saw some things about the 920 that caught my eye. I liked the idea behind wp7 but thought the home screen didnt fit quite enough information on it. When I saw what WP8 looked like plus the features of the 920, I thought I should give it a go. Definitely the best decision I could have made. I dont know what it was about android but there was something that was just starting to bug me and was becoming stale. WP8 and Lumia 920 are just beautiful to use. Camera is ok (not groundbreaking, or maybe Im biased as I own a 'Real' camera) But taking videos with the stabilization is great. plus the video quality in general is quite good. Microphones are a notch above the rest too. Screen is brilliant, build is great (although I am construction worker so I have it locked away in an otterbox regardless). Sure there's not the app choice, but they are certainly coming, and all the apps that the average person -needs- are there. As a Smart Phone, it is in my opinion the best.
I went from Android to WP7.... because i was not satisfied with the stability of the OS... There were really a lot apps Missing back then.... But i really like how fluid an reliable WP was... The phone functions are most important to me...
Recently i bought a new Android Phone just to see how much has changed since than and if I'm missing out something with my Lumia 920...
Im using both now.. but I will stay with Windows Phone.. I get to used to it..
I just works.. no need for custom ROMS and tweaking around... There are
some apps missing but most of the popular one are available or there are solid alternatives...
Check if the app that you really like and use are on Windows Phone..
I don't mean games... the most are boring after 4-5 days anyway..
If not .. and you really need them stay with android.. else give WP8 a try... you won't regret it... The Lumia 920 is really the best phone i ever had!
One more thing i love about the 920 is the choice of colors you get. Most android phones only have one or two color choices (but most all are still dull)
With the 920, you get to choose between eye popping red or yellow, a glossy elegant white, and the sophisticated matte cyan and black. I had the white but got switched to the red and I love it

The short answer is come on over! The long answer:
The hardware is impressive, especially the Lumia 920 right now. If you are not completely on the google bandwagon then jump in, the waters fine.
As for pc connectivity, it can't be beat. Windows 8 has a tile dedicated to it, music and photos "just sync". iJoke about iTunes because it's laughable by comparison, and import your library for free. Then there's Nokia Music, Microsoft Xbox music, Spotify, and get free Pandora Premium for 2013 http://bit.ly/17Oac2m
Use your phone as a touch mouse for your netbook/Surface with "mouse without borders". Navigate your XBOX with smartglass, play games on xbox/8pc/phone/tablet that is purchased once on the Store.
Twitter, facebook, are fully integrated into the People app, share a photo with three clicks from taking the picture to all of your networks (again, except Google). Linked in is almost fully integrated, you have to download the app but it plugs itself in.
Hotmail, Yahoo, Gmail, Aol, messenger, fully integrated into the platform, get all of your email in one place, see all the details from all your contacts in one place. Calendars too (except Google! Microsoft will update that by July to connect after Google cut them off (see them as a threat methinks)) Skype works flawlessly and also integrates once you download the app.
GoogleTalk = IM+Pro (again, Google v. Microsoft) use a 3rd party app if you really want to.
Maps are solid, provide great navigation information, 8 out of 10 on the redirect if you go off course and no live traffic (yet). I only say this because google maps is faster at turn redirection if I miss a light, but that will improve and I don't use it all the time.
No notification drawer, but you get live tiles which do the same / similar job! No email notification? Not true! The live tiles just flipped, oh look! Five new emails from all my inboxes. Same for text messages, phone calls, etc.
Want updates on specific folks? no problem, put their live tile on your screen, see facebook posts, tweets, phone calls, photos, text messages, skype interaction and more on the tile. Not doing it for you? Click the tile and dive into every interaction you have with the person, all the history is there.
Apps Apps Apps... not all of them, and many by fans of first party developers. But get your head out of your phone. What is the more important app, or set of apps you need? check www.windowsphone.com and decide what you can live without before you make the switch. Is Instagram worth staying on Andy? Will it help you to know that Nokia confirmed that it is coming to WP8 this year? Can you do without for a short while? I don't use it, but I say yes you can!
My example is I like to use Springpad, no WP8 app. But look, Evernote is here! and on Windows 8, and on my Surface Pro. So I switch. Same with Dashlane to Lastpass.
Tethering: Yup
Headset: Holy cow this thing is quick to connect to all of my devices
Sound Quality: How's HTC Beats audio (HTC8X) or Dolby Digital sound (Lumia 920) for great audio?
NFC?: Check, and implemented, and working
Wireless charging: got it, works, nuff said
Camera: 920 has the best low light camera. (that last item there, was a period.)
Bluetooth: fantastic.
Processor: ZOOM (really, nuff said)
Screen (if you have 20-20 vision, you'll be fine) I have better than that and screen looks fine to me.
Battery life: holy cow. four days light use. 12 hours (easily) heavy use). My galaxy note dies repeatedly after about 8 hours.
Also, if you have a bluetooth headset on, it will whisper your incoming texts and allow you to listen, reply, and call hands free. Everyone will ask you who you are talking to. Bonus!
Bing vs Google. Who cares? I'm on a Microsoft kick, I'm going to run with it until Google gets their heads out and starts playing nice. Bing does a good job at finding the same answers that Google does, in a much more eye candy fashion.
What's to gripe about?
For me, Path (coming), Mint (no roadmap), Ally bank (coming), Manilla (unknown), YNAB,(no), Square (no), Paypal (check),... again, critical? nope. Want? yep. Surface pro and tethering to the rescue, problems solved.
Let us know what you decide (and if you took time to read all this.. I'm winded...)
