Anybody want to help me? - Samsung Galaxy 5 I5500

Hello there everybody!
I'm looking to customize my Galaxy 5 a bit, just looking for some help on how to do a few things, just general stuff really, so here it goes;
I want to over-clock my phone, what CPU settings would you recommend? I want it as stable and fast as possible so what governor, minimum and maximum frequency would you guys recommend I use?
What is the best alternative home launcher? In your opinions and why do you think that? I like ADW but the App Drawer seems laggy when compared to the likes of Launcher Pro, but LauncherPro lacks customization options such as renaming applications your homescreen and changing the icons.
Where can I find a nice, high resolution, good quality wallpaper for my phone? Most wallpapers I find look rubbish on my phone.
What's the best alternative lockscreen application? I have played around with LockBot and Widgetlocker, just wondering what you guys think.
What Cyanogenmod Themes would you recommend, or where can I find some? On the CM7 G5 Theme thread there is only like 5 or 6 themes which I think are available for our phone, which sucks.
And if you have any other general tips/advice on how to make my G5 look clean and minimalistic then please let me know.
Thank you,
Curtis.

i'm currently using a min of 122 mhz and a maximum of 729 and it seems to be quite stable, i wouldn't recommend anything above that

For overclocking, i'd recommend 710 max and 245 min on the 'performance' governor.
I still use the default ADW launcher that came w/CM7.1. it's all quite smooth except for the app drawer as u mentioned. i came up w/ a good solution to that - i keep all my most used apps on my home (i use all seven screens - the max).
For live wallpaper and theme, i use Ice Cream Sandwich(android 4.0) ports.
Currently, i have the MDPI ICS CM7 theme, which is the smoothest I've seen yet, and the ICS live wallpaper. they all go together.
Lockscreen - i tried WidgetLocker n magiclocker (didn't yet try lockbot). Even though magiclocker provides awesome features, it is not yet compatible with our G5's. Both lagged while compared to stock. as of now, i use stock slider with gestures, and it looks great.
I recommend that you use most of the stock CM7.1 lockscreen, launcher, etc. for optimum speed.
PS: if you try all the above out, and actually decide to keep them, take a word of advice- change all gesture trails and notification power widget colors to blue. Looks great.
Feel free to PM me if u need the .apk's for anything, I still have 'em all.

Thanks for the very nice reply! I'll get round to it whenever I can be bothered to turn my G5 on:3

i'd recommend min 245 and max 680 or 710 and if u want max performance use the performance governor xD but it has a high battery drain, i use smartassv2 and it's smooth too.
For the lockscreen i think that widgetlocker is the best app, i don't know other app completed like it

performance governor just runs the cpu at whatever the highest speed is it's no different from having both speeds set at 710

CM7 Best ROM till date
1. To increase performance use Ext Partition , it will help free up memory and boost performance.
2. Launcher ( I am using Go Launcher pretty Neat and clean and peppy fast)
3. Galaxy 5 support Live wallpapers , You will get Go Wallpapers with Go Launcher which are pretty good.
4. Optimum CPU Frequency as per my uses Min 245 and Max 604 getting pretty awsome quardent scores (1529)

Live Wallpaper, SetCPU and themes?

Okay, I have three questions..
1. Live Wallpapers.
Why does my X10 start to stutter whenever i use Live Wallpapers? it works smooth if i just have a normal picture on background but if using a live wallpaper makes it stutter alot in transitions which is pretty annoying.
2. SetCPU
Please recommend what settings to put for SetCPU as i cant understand how to set it up !
3. Themes
How in the world do i install themes? I have CM 6.1.3 (android 2.2) and i downloaded the lucid theme but cant seem to install it. I flashed it using xrecovery but after reboot i see the same old theme with just a few icons changed..
Help !
Live wallpaper use a lot of resources so effect phone performance.
Setcpu is really up to u and how u want ur phone to work. I have mine set to on demand 384 minimum. 998 max. And a profile for battery save when screen off.
U have to go to cm settings for the theme and apply it. Then reboot.

Any fix for the live wallpaper?
I have applied the theme obviously, I just see the icons change and thats it !
it really depends on what programs you are running and how many MB your running widgets take up. I suggest a task manager to close out apps you dont want to run to improve performance. Also try deleting many unwanted apps(bloatware) using titanium backup. Should increase performance as well.

[closed] Fastest App Drawer?

Hi guys,
im still bothered by the crappy performance of my app-drawer.
The best thing I foud yet is AltDrawer (k just tested it 2min but really was smooth)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154299
But since i got many apps on my 101 I really miss the category function of VTLaucher wicht I currently use.
I already tried out ADW, ADW EX, LaucherPro but all run fine on my wildfire but as soon as high res screen comes into play - performance massively goes down.
Any suggestions?
I use Apps Organizer. Works great.

VTL launcher, v1.7.0, has categories in app drawer.
This is the best launcher for tablets.

Thanks, just stumbled upon Apps Organizer - but its loading time on start up annoys me (3s blackscreen) + its still lagging a bit while scrolling
AltDrawer is faster but no categories
VT im currently using - but hey there is a v1.7.0 ? cool
will check out
EDIT: damn it isn't free anymore and i dont own a credid card so i have to stay with 1.6.5 atm
EDIT2: anyway - i just tried updating - installed an adw honeycomb theme - removed pulse service - and somehow drawer is nice and speedy now ?!!? perhaps affected by the other theme?

[Q] How do i reduce launcher lag?

i've tried them all...
i have probably 50+ apps
arc launcher: smooth, but still has to redraw homescreens occasionally and app drawers more often than not.
GO launcher EX: my favorite, but still had app drawer and homescreen redraw, don't like dock.
TW4: very very smooth, but every now and then, would freeze my Vibrant. tried countless ones from countless ROMs.
TW3: I figured it would be better, since it's the phone's native launcher, and im using a themed one based on the Simply Honey default launcher. smooth, but still has redraw in app drawer, and occasional lag on homescreen.
i've also tried the usual launcher pro and ADW....dont like the docks, and after a few days of use, would LAG....
is there a way to have the launcher stay in memory to reduce said lag?
ROM: Simply Honey 5.1
Theme: Simply Bloody
Kernel: Talon T5s, Bullet when I need GPS
Mods: FFC, GPS
There are several ways to smooth out your launcher and your smartphone experience in general.
1) Overclock your CPU. Multiple kernels support overclocking. Nearly all Vibrants can handle 1200mhz, and many can go up to 1440mhz without any tweaking.
2) Change your governor. Most people use the Conservative governor, which while great for battery life, is not so good for smoothness as it takes too many milliseconds to ramp up to full speed. Using Performance will keep your CPU at max clock speeds while you're using it, and your phone should still go into Deep Sleep mode when the screen is off, so the effect on battery life isn't too drastic. Ondemand is, I believe, the default governor for the Vibrant, and a good middle ground.
3) Switch to MIUI. This may be true for all AOSP ROMs, or all Gingerbread ROMs, but my personal experience is only with MIUI, and MIUI is the only ROM I've used that didn't feel like an incremental upgrade. Under MIUI and OC to 1200mhz, my launcher (the default MIUI launcher because it's quite wonderful) is perfectly smooth. 60 frames per second or better at all times. I've tried any number of tweaks, but when I was on Froyo, any and all launchers I used lagged to some degree. Not so with MIUI.
4) Zeam Launcher. It's very minimalist, but also has an excellent feature which allows you to perform certain functions by swiping or double tapping the screen. It's also the smoothest launcher I've used on Froyo.
Hope that helps!
I had been a long time Launcher Pro+ devotee; up to just a few weeks ago. After a increasing problems with start up and widgets & apps freezing, I tried Zeam. It was just a whim; I really didn't expect much. It took a while to get used to too; mostly because I was so conditioned to the gestures and settings I had on LP. I'm loving it now though. For a "minamalistic" launcher, it has quite a few features. Features that actually took me a few days to even notice. My Vibrant is flying again. It is such a smooth launcher. Give it a try.
And let us know what you think.

Changed DPI to 240, looking for a way to be able to resize any widget

Hi, I'm running the Verizon Galaxy Note2 JediX rom, overclocked 1.9ghz kernel with interactive governor, and I changed the dpi setting to 240 instead of 320. Like the way it looks, I already flashed all the zip files for touchwiz launcher, camera, calculator, dialer, and Samsung keyboard and they are all working great on this 240 setting. The only thing I'm not liking is that some of the the widgets don't stretch or resize across the whole screen (like the Google search widget is 4x1 and I need it to be 5x1 to fit across entire top of screen) this is really bothering me, if anyone else is OCD about the layout of their home screens, then you know how I feel. Does anyone know of a solution for this? A way to resize any widget I want?

Nova or Nova Prime Launcher allows you to resize widgets and overlap them.
Nova Prime and Apex paid version do what you want. Go launcher does it as well, but it doesn't run good on ICS or Jelly Bean. I'm sure there are many others but these are the ones I've used.
Sorry guys, I should have been more clear. I want to keep touchwiz launcher.i just want to be able to resize any widget any way I want in touchwiz. Is this possible?
negative.
what nunyazz said...also why are u overclocking at 1900? all that is doing is chewing thru your battery with very very I mean very little performance gain.

Go custom ROM or go Apex Pro, Touchwiz Theme, Resize & Overlap Widgets in pro.... It's pretty damn close to being the same thing.
You can run the original Samsung keyboard in 240 as well without reinstalling the keyboard... change the resolution to 241

so your e penis is inflated over benchmarks?? my device scores 2100+ clocked at 1900 also, but i see very little performance gain from stock. fwiw i agreed with nunyazz post that stated "negative", which in turn should of answered your initial question. i then followed up with a general statement of advice to help your noobness.

[Q] OC Kernel

I am using the CM10.2 rom (4.3) and would like to use a kernel with overclocking as I find the rom a little slow. Will the Voyager2 kernel4.3 work with this rom?
I would post this in the CM10.2 forum but I haven't done enough post to!
There are cpu options in the ’Performance’ section of the settings/system menu.
Also try Nova launcher from the play store, this will help speed things up.

Thanks for the tip. In "Performance" section the cpu can only be clocked to 1400, I want to clock it to 1600 or 1700.
Not keen on Nova - personal thing - I use ADW and find it snappy enough. Where I find the "slowness" is in things like Evernote when opening a note to edit for example.
I've used the OC kernel with carbon and CM10.1 and have been happy with the results, I'd just like to do the some with CM10.2
