Hi kind people!
So what is the cheapest/easiest way of plugging the Transformer HDMI to a VGA beamer or other device?
That would be really useful for using the Transformer at presentations.
I googled a lot but only found HDMI to VGA that include some sort of decoder and are pretty expensive and look huge.
Any idea or suggestions?
No, there isn't any other solution to output HDMI to VGA (digital signal ONLY to analog signal ONLY), than original ASUS one... It's not so expensive, if you consider what is inside... About dimensions, look at any VGA cable, thats the size of VGA end (abou 3x4cm VGA side and 1x2cm mini HDMI side...
What is the Asus solution?
Edit: Found it. It is called "Asus EeePad Mini HDMI to VGA" and costs 30€ here in Germany. That is really cheaper than those I found. No idea thou why I did not find the Asus one.
Thanks!
I have this adapter. Works very well, and usable to connect the tablet to projectors for conferences.

This adapter works as well to connect to TV's HDMI

Hi, I'm interested in the microHDMI to VGA adapter, however I'm unsure whether android/tfp will handle screen ratio's different from the native ratio, like 4x3 on projectors and old monitors.
Does it depend on the support of the app?
For instance Splashtop HD supports 4x3 resolution while the THD version does not.
Would that mean that the HD version will be fullscreen and the THD version not or streched?

I'm not sure how it works now, but I believe in the upcoming .19 update, you're supposed to be able to allow for output to different aspect ratios. For now, I imagine you'd be squished, unless your 4:3 TV had a widescreen mode.
I have recently purchased an "OEM" Samsung MHL adapter. it functions as described and gives decent video quality and good audio however what they don`t tell you is that it will only output at 24hz! this means no matter how powerful your phone is it will always be limited to 24fps. this makes videos jittery especially sports and games lag like @#$%. This adapter is FAKE even if it has samsung on it. you can tell because the fake cable has the input cable in the middle. What you want to be buying is the legit Samsung adapter that outputs crystal clear 1080p video at 60hz (60fps) with great audio. it has the input cable offset to one side. Just a warining before people buy the wrong item.
good to know
Where did you buy it from?
Nice share, mate..
Did you used this for your 3vo?
I wanna know why don't you buy the adapter that provide by HTC? Few weeks ago I have a little chat with Htc customer service, and she said that htc are not recommend to use any attachments or accessories that they don't provide or provided by an unknown third party.. At the first time I was thought it was only their bloody marketing strategy.. But, later when I wanna buy a power bank for my 3vo my friend told me that he got a trouble when use it and it brick his blackberry battery like a hell.. So I think it make sense why did they suggested me to use an accessory which they provide and developed.. But a rough case is an exception, eh?

I don't think the adapter has anything to do with the framerate of the video. The adapter is literally just an adapter, taking the video signal from the 5 pin usb and outputting it to the hdmi port.
yes i did test it on my evo 3d on both stock rom and leedroid. actually the adapter itself can affect the quality because i have seen adapters that only output to 720p.
Who has a good one and where did you get it?
GO into a bit more detail on the differences between the good and the bad.
I got mine from an ATT store, or was it a T-Mo store..
Got mine from T-mo..and it works great.

in my case the bad adapter outputs to 1080p (more like 1080i) but the quality is a bit fuzzy with alot of jagged edges whilst the oem adapter produces actual 1080p full resolution and does not lag due to it supporting the full 60hz that the phone is capable of outputting. audio quality is about the same for each. it is not the hdmi cable i am using because i have used several including one that supports 3d @ 120hz.
How are you reading the 60 fps? I have 3 adapters, a monoprice and 2 no-name brand adapters - and all 3 report output of "1080/30P" on my LG TV.

Please post about the actual FPS - and how you're reading the 60fps. I'm concerned that you might be spreading misinformation. After reading this thread, I decided to buy an official Samsung MHL adapter - even though I now have 3 no-name adapters.
On my LG HDTV - all outputs report as 1080P/30FPS, at least coming out of the Evo 3D. I'll continue doing testing on all 4 adapters - so I can post a comparison thread in the accessories subforum. But for now - I see no reason that I'd want to spend $25 for the Samsung MHL adapter I just received, as opposed to the $6 EBAY special I already have.
I won my Nexus Q in a contest, along with all the other Google IO gifts. I don't have a modern TV, or computer monitor, can I still use the Q with my CRT TV?
Edit: I already have one of my laptops hooked to my old TV so I can watch Netflix and other online content.
There's not really a cheap way to do it. You have to buy a converter. http://www.amazon.com/s?ie=UTF8&key...er&rh=n:172282,k:rca to hdmi converter&page=1
Now aside from my answer, have you considered selling the device? I have been looking for one.

I don't want to sell it, sorry. I was pricing tvs today, and I will just buy a new tv I guess. The q intrigues me so much, that I have to get a new tv!

I actually bought a vga to composite video converter a while back so I could hook my laptop to my old tv (I found it out by the dumpster), so instead of buying yet another converter, I think it is about time I get a new tv, they are pretty cheap right now anyway.

Yes buy a new TV, or even look for a second hand one. Just get something that has HDMI and get whatever speakers complement the Q so you don't have to buy a separate system.
Or if you have equipment to decode the signals elsewhere you could even use a monitor.
I'm using a 46 inch screen that I picked up second hand for a lot less than a TV would have cost me and though it only seems to do HDMI to 1080p it oddly enough will take a widescreen 1200 line input and its as crisp a picture as I've ever seen! I'll probably send the sound elsewhere as it is stereo and doesn't support all the bass boom additives of more modern systems. It was produced for large businesses to use for display purposes.
Hey guys,
I have been researching this for a week at least, and eventually decided I wanted to be able to output video from my Note II to my HDMI products and my VGA projector. Now I have run into a somewhat small problem.
The MHL -> HDMI Cable Matters Gold Plated Premium MHL to HDMI Cable for Samsung Galaxy SIII & Galaxy Note 2 in Black - 6ft works perfectly alone
and the HDMI -> VGA Cable Matters Gold Plated Premium HDMI to VGA M/F Active Adapter in Black - also works perfectly alone
But when I connect them together using Female HDMI coupler it only outputs 640x480 60hz . I tested it with my projector and my ASUS monitor. I even tested just the coupler and worked fine.
Anyone have suggestions? I am running CleanAce 4.6 Rom rooted.
Summary: from Note II output from MHL to HDMI to VGA only outputs 640x480 60hz resolution
(on a side note i just ordered a micro hdmi to hdmi cable for my old droid x to see how that fares with the hdmi-vga adapter.)
standard VGA resolutions are 4:3 i.e. 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768, etc. The video card in your Note II is sending on 720p which is 1280x720, which is not a standard VGA resolution, so it downscales to lowest supported *standard* resolution because HDMI does not support analog at all. This is typical behavior with a passive adapter. With that said, 720p over VGA *is* possible, but I think I would try a different approach, such as a Monoprice MHL-to-VGA adapter.
Also, using premium cables i.e. "Gold" for digital signals such as HDMI have absolutely no benefit. These types of cables became popular in the analog days by audiophiles, and they do help to prevent the degradation of analog signals, but not by a huge factor. Of course these companies that sell "Gold" HDMI cables know they are selling snake oil, but consumer don't seem to notice.

Thanks for the info, in my opinion I think combining the adapters is blocking some function that checks back for resolution info. Anyway I totally agree with you on the cable premium stuff, I wanted to slap my parents when I learned their home theater system was put together with monster cables T_T. I just got the cords that were prime eligible and decently priced. Went for same brands hoping they might be more compatible.
Here is a picture of the HTC MHL Adapter -- model AC M500. You use it to mirror video and audio from your Jetstream -- or certain other ExtMicro devices. I don't have a television where I am, so I haven't even used it yet.
It was a pretty good investment at $15 dollars with shipping. It is made of plastic, but it is quite solid.
On the left is a ExtMicro connector that states it needs 1.67 A -- this is the rating of the default Jetstream charger. In the middle is a type A HMDI connector. I don't know what the connector on the right is, but my guess is line or headphone out.
If anyone knows the video resolution (I'm assuming 720p) and audio format (I'm assuming stereo PCM) output then please post it.
