i9000M=Vibrant T959? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

in the website " http://galnetmiui.co.uk" they have thier 1st ICS builds of MIUI
i have downloaded the i9000M rom, and took the risk and flashed it into my vibrant t959 expecting that would screw my phone actual buttons,
but the think that it's working flawlessly! been using it for 4days with no single hiccup.
the question, how did it work?

Is everything working ok? including GPS???

i'm 99% convinced this is a troll.

Agreed.....It's a troll doll!!

It's true but that isn't real ICS, they claim it is but its not.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium

the only think i didn't try yet is GPS, i'll try and give a feedback.
and for whoever speaking about troll,,,, no it's not
you want some Screens? or video would be better.
i knew it's ics from SDK. but still it's amazing.

yes please, i wasn't trying to be rude but we get ALOT of trolls, you don't know how many trolls claimed they got gingerbread updates from Samsung Kies a few months ago...
You may be right, but idk, make a video please i wanna see what its like, also how is the battery - sorry for the question, but just curious haha

quick overview.
http://youtu.be/y55NfCkeEBE
batt is not the best think, i squeezed 1D 20H with minimal use.
this is the default kernel, dunno if 2.3 kernels would still work on this? since it's not fully ics.

Its not from the sdk. It is GB woth some ICS features in it. Besides, even if its real, what is the point of ics without any of the features of ICS?

Their working on a GB rom.
As you know, TW doesn't like putting out beta's or random half-cooked roms... so they need/want everything to work from step 1.
there's 2 GB roms out right now, CM7 and Double Rainbow.
Neither have GPS working.
Maybe thats why they haven't released? they haven't found a way to make GPS work yet?

From the Team Whiskey website homepage "TeamWhiskey is a development group thats dedicated to working to speed up, bug fix, lag fix, and enhance the Android user experience of their Vibrant model SGS Series Phone and more to come as projects expand.. This site is dedicated to information about our projects, ROMs, known and critical bugs and fixes, and information about upcoming and ongoing projects or additions to the project." All the phones listed in their forums are SGS phones, but the only one with any significant number of threads is the Vibrant. Relax. They'll be out with something soon.

I doubt we'll see anymore gb roms until we get a leak for the vibrant. Edt's Double Rainbow was awesome, just no gps.
I think tw is just about finished with this phone...try explodingboy70's 2.3.3 based on sim0ne's simply galaxy...using out now...krylon is developing for the captivate and sim is m.i.a.....edt is selling roms ( not hating...just saying ), I think it's time we all look into some i9000 imports

Sense roms

I was wondering if there are any sense roms for the vibrant, if so can you someone please direct me? I check but couldn't find any. Thank you
nope, a launcher pro sense theme, but no functioning roms. There was one a few months ago in the works but it fizzled out
That sucks. Thanks for the response.
There kinda is one, but it's still in a very alpha stage, with things then breaking constantly.

I don't have a link, but it's at the very tail end of the galaxy sense thread in the Dec section. I haven't personally seen the thread pop up in about a well or so, but I know it's using a gb sense leak, on top of some CM7 parts and that some of the drawing features of sense don't work.
If you don't know how to debug your phone, when most common tools are useless then don't even bother with it.

[Q] ICS?

I know we don't have any ICS kernel sources yet but do you think we will get ICS before this August?
I thought I read somewhere that we were getting it in the next month or two. I would assume we would have a good working ICS port at the least in the next month or two. Can't speak for the devs here, but I thought that's what we were looking at. As for when ATT will push it out, that could be forever...I hate how long they take, but oh well.

Having used ICS on the captivate, it truly is an update worth switching devices for. However, I'm pretty happy with the I777 so I will just wait. Android updates that were actually really good: Froyo, Honeycomb, and ICS. The rest were just hyped too damn much and gingerbread is the worst of all of them (imho).
Wow. Use the sticky thread.

For one, it's not just ICS when Jellybean comes out, you're going to get it much quicker than anyone else. And also, it's the purest form of the Android version minus any bloatware each manufacturer puts on the phone, which can be either a pro or a con, but overall, the bloatware has been a con in the past.
IMO, Gingerbread was a very good update, Froyo didn't seem that special when I finally got it for my S7. The biggest improvement was non-broken radio firmware, which had nothing to do with Android version.
Gingerbread had significant power management improvements.

I love and appreciate all the work that the Devs have done for our phone, but if we don't get ICS soon I will be leaving this phone. A lot of my friends have phones with ICS roms and it is such a improvement over GB. I don't understand how one and two year old phones have ICS and Samsung won't allow us to have it. It is ridiculous.

What the hell is your problem? Name one phone other than the Nexus line that has received ICS officially.
HTC hasn't released any updates yet.
Motorola hasn't released any updates yet.
Sony has only released betas (I applaud them for putting out prereleases)
Asus has only pushed it to one tablet (easier to port HC tablets due to HC being a newer codebase and not having to deal with the RIL) and that was an utter disaster
So far, my experience with ICS is that it's not an improvement over Gingerbread. I haven't been able to see any significant positive improvement - some parts of the UI are a bit shinier, but the gapps user interface is clunker than it was in GB. ICS has some good improvements on tablets, but for phones - not so nice.

First of all I said that I APPRECIATE the devs!!!! And I never said that the roms were official. Almost all HTC and LG phones have ICS roms. I left t-mobile with the htc sensation and believe me that phone runs 300% better now that it is running ICS. And by the way Entropy it is no disrespect to any dev by what I said, I am rocking your Kernel right now (Excellent job). I am pissed at Samsung and them only. Our phone is supposed to be a flagship phone so what the hell is the holdup?
If you can't wait then just go get the G Nexus. These questions have been brought up and beaten to death. Just don't be surprised when Ics finally drops for our device and our Roms are superior than most. GS2 surely has the hardware to run prety much anything smoothly and dev community is strong here

Don't update it. In my experience, technically challenged people don't appreciate it when their technology changes, sometimes even if the change is for the better. The phone works great on Gingerbread...if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

That's like going to a Chinese restaurant and only hoping to see pizza on the menu.
Seriously, though. . .if your wife is happy with GB and is not particularly interested in, or adept at learning, new tech there's no sense in updating just to update. As for the "official" update, the responses seem to be all over the place. . .from folks who love it to those who loathe it and say they're going back to GB. It really all depends on how happy your wife is with her phone as it currently is AND how prepared you are to deal with possible problems caused by AT&T's implementation of ICS.

Complete stock here. 4.03. Personally I think you should go through with it . Like others have mentioned there isn't a big change in the user interface . So your wife shouldn't have trouble figuring things out since there nearly identical. You can help show her some new features she may like such as full screen web browsing, the new task manager ,screen display or data manager. Then again you can always set it up for her so she doesn't even need to understand how to "turn on the feature"
Aside from the phone OS experience, I'd also consider apps. If your wife only uses Browser and Gmail, then stick with Gingerbread.
On the other hand, now that ICS is "stock," I would plan ahead for developers dropping support for Gingerbread - at least in some cases.
Apps from mainstream companies (Amazon, Netflix) tend to be extremely backwards-compatible, while smaller shops may focus efforts on fewer versions, and once you can guarantee access (carrier-provided stock ICS), that's one less version to maintain.
For my part, I wanted to try out the Chrome Beta. Won't run on Gingerbread, so that's a no-brainer for me.
For the record, I do not run stock, but I used the above logic when I went from a Gingerbread ROM to an Ice Cream Sandwich ROM.

App developers have to consider the market. Currently (as of June 1) approx 20% of devices are running 2.2 Froyo and 65% are running 2.3 Gingerbread. Those two account for 85% of the market. Only 7% of devices are running ICS. Not too many app developers are going to give up over 90% of the market and make their apps specific to ICS. See here for details.

Tried it and had some issues. On the subjective side I thought it didn't seemed as smooth as GB. Objectively I had some issues with notification sounds not working. Also the menu is different enough that it could be a little confusing at first for someone that doesn't like to mess with their technology.
I first Flashed the Stock ICS with CWM from AJ Newkirk to keep my root. The stock did not seem that much different than GB. I progressed to v6b of the Newkirk ROM with Touchwiz UX and other changes. Much more interesting. Then Flashed the new Shishir ROM with Touchwiz UX and the UCLE5 Modem and am experimenting with them both. Unless you plan on moving to the next level with the custom ROM's I would question if the update is worth it.
Thanks to AJ and Shishir for their hard work and speed to get their ROM's out.

Looking for an excellent rom!!!

with your experience on XDA you should know, what is going to be an excellent ROM for somebody else, may not be for you. I don't know what kind of user you are.
not sure what your last phone was, but we have quite a bit of variety here.
here is my rundown and I am sure you know basics
ICS 4.0.4...........super stable by know beings update official updates have gone beyond
JB 4.1.2...........Touchwiz based pretty darn close to stock (debloated) and DAMN stable. only a couple out there but rock solid. some theming and mods out there for personal touches. not many updates needed
JB 4.2..............these would be AOSP, AOKP and CM based ROMS. lots of customizing. basically 3 ROM's in 1. with bells and whistles are some shortcomings. random reboots being the biggest flaw. many have success using alternate KERNALS built in conjunction with certain ROM's, giving options for OCing and UVing. different tweaks here and there can better chances for success. lots of updates on these.
JB 4.3..............still early in the game. smooth but working out a lot of kinks right now. its coming along
just an honest everyday user here giving an honest opinion m my experience here. folks are great funny and very helpful and a LOT of talent in development here.
good luck my friend. I am sure others will be along to correct me on SOMETHNG
Lol I thanked I twice..im a tmo user n our variety on roms is far less than i717 IM on skeleton key ICS rom and so far it's awesome...no reboots debloated n compatible with i717...just gotta flash a tmo modem but can be used for i717...give it a try new guy it's in the development thread...

Skeleton key is in the i717 thread because there are a bunch of us that use the i717 (AT&T version) and unlock it and use a Tmobile sim/service. It works great. So, he made that ROM for us.

I dunno..."great" is different for everyone.
Some people love Padawan, Blackstar....
Others love 4.2 ROM's, or ICS rom's
It depends what you want in a ROM. I'm using Skeleton Key, because I like ICS a lot. It works just fine for my needs. It is an excellent ROM, as are all the others. It just like I said...depends what YOU want.

I'm in love with PACMan ROM. Padawan would get more love if it wasn't so laggy on my Note

you obviously have not read p. 355- 378 in thread then. which deals with the ONLY issue folks have had with that ROM. with those settings, my phone runs orgasmic.
always read, read, read
not my intention to be a D#@K. too many people are wanting someone else to do the work for them lately. when basically it is what they themselves do to their phone, not what somebody else does it. so why would you not want to inform yourself and understand.
good luck
