I am with you...When i took mine apart, it scare me. All those connectors to mme seem that it would make your phone susceptible to be easily broken. I hope not, but it is definitely intimidating...

Wow, really?
There are contacts for antennas, noise cancellation and NFC. why is it you need someone to provide you with the minutia?

It's not that hard if one have a need to find out - I don't personally.
If you cut a little piece of thin plastic and put in between those contact point you'll be able to find out - at least with phone signal, bluetooth, wifi and gps ...
BTW hopes you post pictures and explain too

Wow, really? That was a less than helpful post. What was the point? He asked his quesion in the proper thread. He waited several days for a response before bumping. Does his reason for wanting the info matter to you?
@seansk. The only info I can give you is that the contacts to the right of the camera opening is for wifi. Other than that I don't know either.

I signed up just to put this in. I think the connectors on the bottom of the battery cover are for the phone's cellular antenna. Long story short, I put some foil over those connectors thinking it might give me better cell signal and I actually got worse signal. Took off the foil and voila, signal came back to normal strength.

Where is the Galaxy Note Antenna located?

I've heard the Galaxy Note i717's antenna is integrated into the BACK BATTERY COVER. But I've also seen parts on eBay that indicate the antenna is located in the the bottom of the phone where the speaker is. Can somebody verify this for me by taking off their back cover and making a call?
I am asking these question because I can't get network on my phone with or without the battery cover. Which probably means antenna is near the speaker part. But can somebody still verify? Thanks
Thanks.
The only thing on the battery cover is the nfc.

As stated before, the only thing part of the AT&T cover is NFC.

Did you really have to start a new thread to answer a question on another thread? Someone had already answered the question on the other thread and said it was the NFC antenna.
There are 3 antennas, 2 on the top edge, 1 on the bottom. Not sure which is for cell, wifi and gps. Plus the nfc antenna on the back cover.

Need HELP With Galaxy SIII Earpiece

Hello there. I have bought my Samsung Galaxy SIII a few weeks ago ( about 2 weeks if I'm nt mistaken) and I love it very very much. And I've also bought some case to protect it since the 1st day. And currently I'm using the case mate pop for it. However, today when I take a look at my SIII I found out that the the earpiece is slightly slanted to the right and it formed a quite a huge gap. And between those gaps I can see something silver and chrome like inside of it. I think it is the inner parts of the phone related to the earpiece. I have no idea how this happen because I'm using my SIII everyday untill today I noticed this.
I've never dropped my SIII and I take very good care of it. The only thing I did was taking out the case mate pop and I applied slight pressure to it because it was a little hard to take off. I'm wondering is this the reason that causes the slant and gaps? And I wanted to know if others had the exact same problem or am I thinking too much and didn't notice it the 1st day until today? I'll attach some pictures so you guys can take a closer look. I need some advice guys I'm desperate! Thanks in advance.
*EDIT* I also found out that I can slightly move the earpiece. Just a little bit. But still I cant make it to close the gap and that silver thingy. Is it suppose to be a little bit loose?

Thank you for the quick reply. Yes I'm still under warranty. Should I tell them it happened or I made it?
Not sure what u meant by case mate pop... but I wouldn't tell: most repair consultants wouldn't know unless its clear u used a screw driver to move the eat piece.

The case mate pop is a case for the S3 which is made in Taiwan. It's quite popular in youtube alot of people are doing reviews for it. I put the case in it and it was easy. But then when I tried to take it off it was hard. So I have to apply slight pressure on the top of my phone.
Do you think that the pressure is what causes this? And do you have the silver thing on the right corner of your S3? Thanks in advance.

Not sure if I understand this correctly. Can this "silver thing" be seen inside of the 3.5mm jack input, or on the far right corner of the S3? If it's in the headphones port, it could be the connector for the jack-plug you see, which is normal.
Could you by any chance provide a picture of the damaged area?

I've look into the 3.5mm jack input and I can't seem to find anything related to it as the silver thing is on the right corner of the earpiece. Just below it. And what do you mean on the far right corner?
I think everything is normal in the 3.5mm jack input. Yes I've attached some thumbnails in the 1st post. I wanted to know if anybody has this problem or isit only my S3 that has this? Its wierd I don't notice it until I remove my case and it appeared out of no where. It's quite visible too.
I never see it before when I'm not using the case. I tired to push the earpiece and it seemed to move a little but I cant get it to cover that silver thing. If you look closely at my thumbnails, you can see that the earpiece is somehow slanted a little bit which is the reason why the silver thing is visible. It's underneath the earpiece. Thank you.

Am pretty sure it is the two contacts at the top of the phone under the battey cover, If you are having problems make sure the contacts on the handset are prominent enough to make a good connection with the rear casing, Be careful not to snap them if they need bending etc.

Thank You, I am trying it
Wifi/Bluetooth antennas tend to be at the top or the sides of a phone. With the actual cellular antenna being at the bottom.
FCC requires all mobile phones to have the cellular antenna farthest from the users head (health concerns). LTE being the strange exception mostly being near the top or the side.

[Q] Question about i777 charging port replacement

I have a very specific question with regards to replacing the charging port on the i777. I have searched threads discussing charging port replacement, but was unable to find anything about this specific issue. I am currently going through my first repair on my i777 that needs a new charging port. I bought the replacement on ebay, but something stood out once I compared it to the original charging port I took out. On the original there is a small rubber piece hanging down (around where the screw holes are). On the replacement piece it's just a metal piece hanging down in the same place. Do I need to have that rubber piece on the replacement charging port? Would it even affect the functionality of the phone? Is there a way to take the rubber piece off the original and transfer it to the replacement, or should I just buy one with the rubber piece on? If someone has asked this question already forgive me, but I did not see it in the thread I skimmed through.
Here is a pic of both them side by side. The top one is the original and the bottom is the replacement I got from ebay.

It would not let me post link yet so just remove parentesis and spaces to view picture link.
That gray part is for waterproofing the microphone I believe. It just slides off of the old part and onto the new one, just be careful. Also if you have no signal, by now you may have already found the following thread. I had to do this a couple of weeks ago to get a signal: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1950114&page=5 I'll try harder to match up the part numbers next time!
iXNyNe, please let us know if the newegg part works, or if you end up needing to modify it (see link in above post), or purchase another.

i'll report back once i have them
i already took the phone apart just to peek around inside, the part looks just like what's already there. the picture shows some teal/aqua colored tabs towards the bottom, im assuming these are peel off for an adhesive (there did seem to be an adhesive holding the part in place).
based on that link mentioned i would say that cutting is a little extreme, it looks like they cut the board in half, which is definitely NOT how it comes stock.
again i'll report back once i've got the chips. and for under $8 with free shipping i cant really complain even if they dont work out.
The only thing you're actually cutting (electronically) is the ground plane of the board shared by the antenna/radio and the charge port. In short, there's a super low risk of messing anything up, unless you use a sawzall to complete the job.
I assume that it was more cost effective for Samsung to put those items on the same board, but it's a punk move to attach a known replacement part to an antenna that varies by region. Either way, I'm glad to know that the hack is an option but I'd be happier to know that the hack isn't necessary.

Just wanted to report success. The part from new egg worked and was really easy to swap.
I don't have the right size sim card anymore since switching my primary carry, so I can't test reception, but otherwise everything is working (charging, wifi, Bluetooth, etc)
P.s. I did not modify the item I received (no cutting) and it is a 2.3 where the original I removed was a 2.2. I've saved the 2.2 just in case something comes up.

Thanks, but I'm afraid that we won't know whether the replacement part is a proper replacement until there is a sim-card involved. Reception is the rub (see post below from the board-mod thread).

I'll see if I can find a friend with a full size Sim over the next few days and test the reliability. But honestly I'd have to it may be better for people to find a rev 2.2
But for anyone who no longer uses the phone for cell service, the new egg part works great for a cheap and easy charge port replacement.

GPS signal fix

i mean to make something like a more powerful antenna for the wifi to improve range and wifi speed
Step by step
So if I understand this correctly:
You opened up the phone using step 3+4 of the ifixit guide (I can't post a link because I don't have enough posts).
Added a little piece of paper to the plastic shell which should push down on the radio giving it a better connection to the logic board.
Soldered on some copper foil to the GPS antenna to extend range.
You then put the inner plastic shell back on and threaded the CU foil through the black plastic radio cover.
Please let me know if I missed a step or have some thing wrong before I try this myself.
Thanks!

I used the aluminium cover of a yogurt... And it works Thanks a lot
I bought Cu foil, very nice quality and use it, about 7cm x 0,5cm, but not much help. I notice better signal when i use foil large as much as my phone. If the foil is small, no visible improvement. How much Al from yogurt did you use?
I used aluminium foil and signal is little bit better. GPS in phone is finally usable for navigation.
But I must say, with that "big antena" I expected bigger improvement in signal.

It's a bit dangerous.
If you don't understand it, you shouldn't do it.
And remember, if you do it, you are responsible for any damage, no one else.

Nice, I would like to try it
I soldered a copper strand to the antenna to basically increase the size of the antenna.
Worked for me way better than this solution, but thank you for giving me the idea to fix the bad gps signal.
