Hello there. I have bought my Samsung Galaxy SIII a few weeks ago ( about 2 weeks if I'm nt mistaken) and I love it very very much. And I've also bought some case to protect it since the 1st day. And currently I'm using the case mate pop for it. However, today when I take a look at my SIII I found out that the the earpiece is slightly slanted to the right and it formed a quite a huge gap. And between those gaps I can see something silver and chrome like inside of it. I think it is the inner parts of the phone related to the earpiece. I have no idea how this happen because I'm using my SIII everyday untill today I noticed this.
I've never dropped my SIII and I take very good care of it. The only thing I did was taking out the case mate pop and I applied slight pressure to it because it was a little hard to take off. I'm wondering is this the reason that causes the slant and gaps? And I wanted to know if others had the exact same problem or am I thinking too much and didn't notice it the 1st day until today? I'll attach some pictures so you guys can take a closer look. I need some advice guys I'm desperate! Thanks in advance.
*EDIT* I also found out that I can slightly move the earpiece. Just a little bit. But still I cant make it to close the gap and that silver thingy. Is it suppose to be a little bit loose?

Thank you for the quick reply. Yes I'm still under warranty. Should I tell them it happened or I made it?
Not sure what u meant by case mate pop... but I wouldn't tell: most repair consultants wouldn't know unless its clear u used a screw driver to move the eat piece.

The case mate pop is a case for the S3 which is made in Taiwan. It's quite popular in youtube alot of people are doing reviews for it. I put the case in it and it was easy. But then when I tried to take it off it was hard. So I have to apply slight pressure on the top of my phone.
Do you think that the pressure is what causes this? And do you have the silver thing on the right corner of your S3? Thanks in advance.

Not sure if I understand this correctly. Can this "silver thing" be seen inside of the 3.5mm jack input, or on the far right corner of the S3? If it's in the headphones port, it could be the connector for the jack-plug you see, which is normal.
Could you by any chance provide a picture of the damaged area?

I've look into the 3.5mm jack input and I can't seem to find anything related to it as the silver thing is on the right corner of the earpiece. Just below it. And what do you mean on the far right corner?
I think everything is normal in the 3.5mm jack input. Yes I've attached some thumbnails in the 1st post. I wanted to know if anybody has this problem or isit only my S3 that has this? Its wierd I don't notice it until I remove my case and it appeared out of no where. It's quite visible too.
I never see it before when I'm not using the case. I tired to push the earpiece and it seemed to move a little but I cant get it to cover that silver thing. If you look closely at my thumbnails, you can see that the earpiece is somehow slanted a little bit which is the reason why the silver thing is visible. It's underneath the earpiece. Thank you.

I just bought the Nook Tablet brand new at Barnes and Noble. Been playing with it a little and like it but noticed something. On the left side and top left of the silver frame there seems to be a small gap - tiny but noticable. You can push down on it and in the dark you can see the light from the LCD coming out of it. So my question is does anyone else have this? Should I be worried or not? I just got it so I'd hate to have to get a replacememt already. Hoping my luck isnt that bad. Thanks for any answers.
Well the front piece of the casing is definitely put on last and in a way it's looser than the rest of the casing, but mine definitely doesn't have said gap wide enough for light to get through. I'd get the device replaced if I were you - if some dust got in there it could seriously mess things up or scratch the LCD.
I think that's actually the microphone. I also have a small little notch that lets in light, though it's more on the right side. There was a similar question asked on the B&N Community forum IIRC.

Yes, the tiny hole close to the headphone jack is indeed the microphone, but from what he's saying it sounds like there's a gap between the faceplate and the main casing. If that's not the issue, though, then you're absolutely right and he has nothing to worry about.
Here's another consideration though; go into an electronics store that carries Nook Tablets and see if their model is identical to yours; if so, then obviously yours is the same as anyone else's.
The micro is more to the right like the 3.5mm jack not the left as he mention.m so maybe that is not it.

Wrong - as I and Verinoca stated - I said it was on the left side of the device, where the mic is nowhere located. Also I think I'd know the difference between a small hole and a gap
But as Mike has said - I think that's the issue. It seems the silver frame is loose and not properly placed onto the main casing so you see little gaps and the biggest gap you can see the light from the LCD. So I'm worried that it eventually comes off or dust gets in - either which is very bad.
Called the Barnes and Noble store I bought it from and having it checked out. Hopefully I get a new replacement since I just bought the damn thing yesterday :/ but thanks for all the answers and help.

So just replace one as you said or you must use it carefull.
So it happened this morning when my alarm went off and it vibrated. I heard a plastic part vibrating also. The sharp loud noise was disgusting. I shut off my alarm thikning it was my cheap SGP case.
Later today I played around trying to find out if the silicone had a hole or something where the plastic frame was touching the SGS2 phone itself. Nope. I took the whole case off. Each time it vibrates it sounds like... ahh what the hell. I will film it for you guys now.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GoIrBmMC1U
WTF is that? I took the cover off. I took the SIM card out on another occasion too. It sounds like something on the upper left. If I push my finger down on the panel, it stops. If you notice the few seconds it is sitting on the table flat, it's fine. Just a little weight seems to calm it down. Not sure if its the vibrating motor itself because it is vibrating properly. Sounds like something is loose inside though...
Anyone experienced this before? Should I go for RMA?
Second part of the question:
Obviously being an XDA-er I'm rooted. I will flash back to stock and unroot. I bought this off of Expansys-USA so I should get *some* reasonable attempt by them to send it back. What are the chances that my warranty gets denied? I don't have a USB jig to reset the counter, but I'll of course get rid of the yellow triangle.
*grrrr... I need to dig up my Nexus S now if I have to go through warranty... I'm guessing I'll be phoneless for weeks*
I don't know if it would invalidate the warrenty or not (technically rooting/custom roms is supposed to), but when I had a problem with my stereo jack not working rather than risking it I just replaced the part myself.
The vibration motor, stereo jack and earphone speaker are all on the same part.
(I got it from this guy on ebay for about $7 if you're curious.)

I see. I'm not sure whats broken really. When I shake my SGS2 I hear something rattling inside. I'm just afraid to open the thing up... is it difficult?
Just watched your video. It sort of sounds as if somehow the vibration motor came loose from its proper spot and is now moving around vibrating against the plastic. Its normally held in with some adhesive (basically double sided tape) within a cutout area.
When I had mine apart I actually took a photo, http://i.imgur.com/fgN9F.jpg, if that makes it any more clear.
I actually recorded the process of me reinstalling the new part (excluding the disassembly, there are lots of clips of that from other people on youtube) but havent gotten around to uploading it yet since my internet connection sucks and the file is nearly 2GB.
Edit to add:
No it wasn't really all that difficult to dissassemble, it was actually pretty easy. That said I enjoy taking things apart and trying to fix them. This was the first time I've dissassembled anything as small as a cell phone, but I'm used to taking things apart and trying to fix them when they break. If you don't have any experience taking apart electronics you might want to think twice or just pay someone who fix's cell phones to do it.
If you're thinking about it, heres a video where someone shows taking it apart to get a rough idea of whats involved.

I decided to try and upload the video I took, once it finishes (in about 2.5 hours) it should be viewable here:

thank you for your detailed writeup. im going to try this. ive taken apart my macbook pro to install an SSD before, and a few other electronics, but i'm not the very best (i feel clumsy sometimes), but i'm willing to give this a shot.
The only thing I'm worried about is that I could potentially mess up the phone in other ways in disassembly such that my warranty won't be honored if I need to resort to that... We'll see tonight. It looks like you used two screwdrivers? Which ones will I need? I have a #000 that I see will be needed for the back plate at least...
k. opened my phone up.
i just took the screws out and the backplate. i pushd around to make sure things are tight, and they seem to be.
put it together and the vibrate thing happens VERY rarely now..
I shook my phone around and still heard something shaking (please tell me if this happens).
I opened up my phone and the camera module seems to be loose. Is it supposed to be glued down?
Just to let you know, you say you don't have a USB jig so your Flash counter may make your warranty void, but, if you flash to an ice cream sandwich ROM (Cyanogenmod 9) you can install an app called 'Triangle Away' which will basically get rid of the Flash count and yellow triangle - it needs root by the way. (search it up on XDA, it's by chainfire')
Then you can flash stock and send in for warranty.

I don't remember it being glued down. Its been a few month since I fixed mine but if I recall correctly it just fit snugly in place between some plastic fitted walls.
This is the camera module you mean right?
Edit: I also don't hear anything shaking with mine, did you mabe leave a screw loose inside?

Yeah. Camera module. That's the one. The main 8MP shooter. It's not glued down or anything. It shakes around inside. I definitely did not leave a screw inside because I only opened the back panel and I put all the screws back in.
It's weird because something making noise while shaking the phone has been documented here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1254520
And I noticed that when you activate camera it goes away. Quite strange but as an engineer this makes me wonder HOW that even happens? Shrug.
I'm waiting for my Samsung Focus S phone to come from the Windows Phone challenge and I'm contemplating using that for a month while my i9100 goes out for warranty. Of course I can always use my Nexus S as a backup, but part of me wants to force myself on a new platform for a month and see how that goes... Hahahaha.

Hey Random6, did you happen to find that after replacing the vibrator motor with a new one, the intensity is now less than when new? I used double sided tape, but with 1.5mm, I guess the motor won't vibrate AT ALL.
Also I found that if I don't screw the one that seems to be closest to the vibrator motor all the way in, it obviously vibrates harder, but not hard enough.
I also used two very thin copper plates to sandwich the motor between the plastic plates, but once again, that was too much and the vibrations were not transfered to the phone's body, but I could hear it doing its job.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Hi, everyone,
I purchased my Galaxy s6 edge a few days ago. I loved it when I unboxe it. Everything is perfect and fulfill my expectation.
I was so excited that I become stupid and my brain stopped thinking. I thought the Top right microphone hole was the Sim tray hole. I took the little spire(for sim tray) in the box and put it inside the microphone hole and forced a little. When I saw that nothing happened, I realized I did a big mistake.
I tried to look in the hole through light if I dammaged anything because I really forced a little. But I couldn't see anything. I am pretty sure that the top microphone still works, but I don't know if the surface of the microphone is dammaged or not. I don't like anything dammaged on a brand new phone. Do you think that the microphone is solid enough to hold such a pushing act?
My second question is, I live in France, I purchased this phone from SFR which is the second french telecom society. there is a little annoying thing about the boot animation, the is the samsung logo part and then there is a SFR logo part. I want to know if there is a way to remove the sfr logo boot animation without root of course?(by the way, the phone is unlocked and is not bound to SFR).
thank you in advance everyone!!!!
I'm guessing you're referring to the secondary microphone on top of the S6. The IR Blaster has a plastic cover and you surely didn't knocked that loose. If you can still record audio with the top microphone, then you probably didn't damage it.
Hi thank you for your answer. The microphone still works. But did I deform it or dammage its surface inside the hole? I dont know how does a smartphone look like and how tough it is to resist a sim tray spire push?
Maybe there is a way to look inside the hole?
Thank you for letting me know
Any ideas? Thankyou
To get rid of the boot logo you could flash a stock rom through odin, see forums. As for the mic, you could have it replaced if you are still within your return time, not completely honest but it is a wa, or if it's insured claim on that as it was accidental. But as the previous person said if you can record it should be fine.

Typically the microphone is placed perpendicular inside that pinhole so that it is impossible to poke it. You were just poking the plastic chamber which looks like a capital letter L and the mic is off the side. Thus its impossible to touch it unless you poked around a right angle!
I hope thats how this mic is because i clean the mic holes by poking them
Did you find out if anything was damaged, Madawcisrich? I did the same thing and i am just worried i spoilt it.

Use the built in voice recorder in conversation mode it uses each mic independently and then test it.
Clever

Will this affect the IP rating? How do I test if I damaged something?

can't tell.. maybe you just poked the material not the entire mic, because the mic itself inside must be sealed. that material on the top of the mic is to keep dust and dirt away.. again it depends on how deep you pushed.
To check if the mic is damaged you can use the recorder app in normal mode, and make a recording of you first talking with the top of the phone directed to your mouth and that the bottom.
Listen back to the recording with headphones.
What was the result? Is it OK?
DUDE..I did the same thing on the same phone for the semi same reason (Samsung). So..what happened?...is it fine?
hahahaha welcome to the club, 'been there done that' and the worst part is that I've done it more than once. Apparently it wasn't deep enough as to cause serious damage ! Lately the Huawei and the Note 9 are sharing the same sim card so things like that happen.

who knows? this is not a vivo forum, but Huawei. also you can try to find a teardown video or so for your phone, so you could see the internals.
Ejector tool cannot damage mic...
Cool video... this answers the age old question, "I mistakenly poked the mic hole with the ejector tool, did I damage the mic?"... The answer is no... I'm sure all phone manufacturers thought of this... on pretty much every phone, the actual mic is off to the side internally...
YouTube: at about 3:52 into the video.

The small top hole is one of the microphones. There's an identical one on the bottom of the phone. So, you can make stereo recordings.
https://goo.gl/images/VqxsYw
The earpiece actually turns into a 3rd microphone for high decibel environments, like live concerts.
But that top one is one of the two "regular" microphones.
Thanks, I thought so. Is it only for recording, or for noise reduction too? Recording I don't care about. Also, should I plug it with glue?
Mastiff said:
On autopilot I was going to put in a SIM card in my brand new phone and pressed where the hole was on my previous phone. Bad mistake, I guess... I probably put it right through something vital. Because I used the small hole at the top of the phone. Not the side. The light wasn't all that good, so I didn't notice that there was no SIM holder there. My guess is that it is a mike of some sorts, but I tried to record sound and had no problems with that. And it seems like there's a mike at the bottom of the thing too. So what did I mess up this time?
Edit: And does this mean that the phone isn't water resistant anymore? Can I stuff a bit of black silicone glue (the type used in bathroooms) in there with the pointy tool to make it water resistant again?
Edit 2: Oh, please drop the idiot jokes. I know it! Googling I have seen that I am far from the only one that has done that, I just would like to know exactly what it is on this phone, and if I should plug the hole to keep i waterproof. That's rather important for me, because I am an avid hobby crawfish and crab fisher and will probably get water splashing over this.

How about fixing it?
LG V30 Microphone Replacement
https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/LG+V30+Microphone+Replacement/104093
If you don't want to tackle it, cell phone repair shop can.
That top mic is probably used for noise reduction during phone calls (since it's the top mic and you would speak into the bottom one), but used for recording stereo when actually recording? I'm sort of guessing on this.
If someone who is audio has better answer, jump in.
zacharias.maladroit, I have also read that. But I have read that it doesn't work as well, since the holes "breathe", they are mes of goretex or similar material. But I'll try anyway, thanks.
ChazzMatt, Interesting, thanks! Looking at that video at around 4:55 it may seem like the pin must have penetrated to the side of the microphone! I think I see the pinhole to the right of where the actual microphone is. As for fixing it, I am far to clumsy. But using a shop is of course an option, the only thing is that the phone is brand new and I'm guessing I'll loose the warranty for that. But I think I will first of all find out if the microphone isn't damaged, and then I will see what happens when I cover the hole. If it doesn't change the call qualty I will probably choose (at least for now) to glue shut that pinhole. If it is a problem for call quality I can maybe live with that using a silicone case and a piece of electrical tape over the pinhole when I go out to fish.
