[Q] FM Radio App Needed - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys is there a app to replace the default FM Radio in HTC Wildfire S without rooting it.
No Streaming. Only the available FM station available after attaching the headphone.

Spirit FM Radio. It is the second app when doing a Market search for fm radio.
There are others as well but all of them are hardware dependent. FM radio is provided different ways on different devices.

Thanks for the reply but i have already tried it. It says unsupported hardware.

do you have a rooted phone? rom? It's suggested to have at least root.

You should find out how your phone provides FM radio (the chip or however) and then do a search for that. Sometimes it is through the Bluetooth chip, sometimes it is built into the CPU or it could be a separate chip.

Do any of the new Android phones come with a FM radio?

FM Compatible Phones
This dev has an FM app out and confirms phones with working FM (and some without):

Hope this helps

Since the New Year, Spirit has supported the Broadcom OEM/Proprietary FM API on the Wildfire S and many other devices. Even on stock, unrooted devices.
Same for the TI, Motorola and Samsung Galaxy S/S2/Note FM APIs.

FM Radio APK?

I tried the one they stole from the Droid 3 for the Bionic, no luck. Stalls at "FM Radio is being launched, please wait..."
Any other things I can try?
I don't think the hardware is there.

Theres no need of a "hardware" It uses the earphones as an antenna anyways.
@cheekrox
Hardware is needed for FM Radio.

There's a chip that's required.

Ofc. you need hardware. Or else people wouldn't have radios, they would just have an antenna with a 3.5mm jack
Oh yeah...never thot of that! =P

I posted this in a thread in the Gen section as well.
The Razr has the same TI WL1285C SoC as the Bionic and it indeed has FM radio capability.
http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Motorola-Droid-RAZR-Teardown/7048/1
It doesn't say if it is capable on iFixit's page but it is.

For what it's worth Sprit FM and the Droid 3 FM Radio apps don't work on the RAZR (while they do on the Bionic)
OK, it seems there are some inconsistencies with iFixit's site.
The Bionic actually has the TI WL1271 wifi SoC.
I got my original info here:
http://www.ifixit.com/blog/blog/2011/09/12/droid-bionic-teardown/
And that is incorrect.
I meed to do some more research to find out if the WL1285c supports FM.
This explains why the APK does not work. We may have to wait for ICS.
Sent from my DROID RAZR using XDA App
The WL1285c is a WiLink 7.0 chip which, according to TI, supports FM radio. The specific chip is nowhere to be found on their website but I would assume it has support for FM.

EDIT: After looking at the pictures of the teardowns, the Razr, Bionic, and D3 all share the same TI WL1285c wifi SoC.
This brings up a huge question for me. This is a Bluetooth 3.0 chip yet the Razr support BT 4.0. How is this possible?

Send me logs for it you want more detail, Menu->Help->EM Logs.
Are there any news? Will it definitely never be possible to use the Razr as FM Radio?

Is there a /dev/tifm device driver ?
On the stock GB ROMs I see that driver, as well as the .ko file and some libs for FM. Just because they are there though, doesn't mean it's possible.
I hope to support the /dev/tifm API at some point and I guess we'll see what happens.

FM Radio?

Hey, so I have the T-mobile US version but I can't for the life of me find the FM radio app. Any help?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
I do not want to mislead you, but I remember that the US versions of some phones did not offer a FM radio, while international models(such as the S2 international or S2 US) did have FM radios.. I do not have the S3 with me so I cannot confirm this.
Try update via Samsung Apps .

I've examined it's API usage.
It relies on the stock HTC FM Service, so will only work on stock ROMs that have the HTC FM app (or at least the service part.)
It wouldn't work on my OneV or OneX without crashing.
But it worked "OK" on my HTC One with a stock Viper ROM.
The app is "under-whelming" IMO.
More details on my thread for anyone interested: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=44669987#post44669987

I got it working on an HTC OneX (unrooted, Android 4.1.1) that I'd previously installed stock HTC FM Service and Spirit FM UL on. I had two crashes this morning that may have been connected to NextRadio (or it could have been something going on the background ... about eight apps wanted to update this morning ...)

Won't work on GPE.
It only works on recent HTC phones with the HTC FM Radio Service loaded.

What LG V10 version have FM Radio?

Hi all, I need your advice, please tell me what version of LG V10 have FM Radio?
I rejected buy the F600L version because don't have FM Radio.
Thanks.
The H960a (European version) has FM radio built-in
Can I ask why you'd want it to have fm radio? With programs like iHeartRadio that essentially function the same in many areas.

Radio on ls990nonstock roms

On the stock rom Nextradio works fine. Is there a way to get fm working on a nougat rom like Lineage OS? Thanks for any advice/answers. Edit: I guess is should've been a little more precise in my request. Can anyone add the fm driver to the kernel that comes with lineageOS? I have working fm on stock using the fm app from d855 variant.
Maybe better response if posted in Q & A section! This is development. No radio will not work

First, like he mentioned, this should be in Q&A section not development.
Second, there is programming and needed software in stock based that is not available in LOS, this why it won't work.
