Hi i have vs 2.3.5 offical kies android with root access and i have baseband version xxKI4 is there a newer modem version for this one because my current modem is realy not stable. Bad reception where i didn't have that with 2.3.3
I have a Beglian phone but willing to try more then one recent good modem

What is your carrier. Maybe try match the modem to the same recommended by the carrier?
Also what is your model; 9100, 9100T, 9100G, ......

I9100 and Proximus

Try some of these modems flashable through CWM Recovery. They are generic European XX.
[MODEM] Main modem XX versions flashable through CWM
I haven't found anything newer, but these only take a moment to flash and try.
Before you flash, observe current; signal strength and quality (-dbm asu) and connection type E, UMTS, H etc....... in phone menu / settings / about phone / status , and then compare after you flash each modem. Be aware of any increase in battery drain.
Edit: Also Check DL & UL speeds with speed tests app
Hope this helps

good tips thx

they all act around 91-95 and one 101 dbm what is best, as low as possible?

Usually as low as possible will give better and more stable reception, and also less switching between 2g (Edge) & 3g (UMTS, HSDPA, HSPA).
Your figures for signal strength are extremely poor.
Maybe nan-backup your current ROM, and re-flash a 2.3.3 backup if you still have it and compare, ensuring you then re-flash the modem used with your 2.3.3 ROM after.
Were your figures for 3g connection or 2g? 2g will nearly always give better signal.

Modem bad reception in Canada Galaxy s2

Hey all, i thought i would start a thread about an issue that many canadians seem to have with the GS2, it seems to have been beat to death but there is no actual solution.
Im currently using the GS2 with Telus, its a wcdma/3G/H/H+ carrier using the frequency 1900 mostly and 850 at times on the cdma network, i used so far KG3-KG6 i placed them in that order because KG6 is the latest i tried and has proven to give me better coverage but its still really bad..
I can connect to data but only outdoors or only when the reception is full bars, if i start to lose any bars there goes my data connection and i can no longuer use any services data/sms/mms/calls i literaly cant do anything..
This is a big issue as i know for a fact that you dont need a data connection to send sms. but it seems the galaxy s2 under the current modem firmware im using KG6 wont allow me to unless im on full data coverage...
My question is this, what is the best modem firmware to use according to the frequencies that i meantioned earlier 1900/850 WCDMA i dont mind using another country's modem as long as they are oriented towards the same frequencies that i need
My phone came from Korea and i know they use 2100/900 could that be the issue? Is my hardware oriented towards that? At this point anything could help and please feel free to post thanks
SL.

Hmm, I'm a SGS2 owner on TELUS as well and haven't had any problems so far, besides the GPS Lock Time which most people seem to complain about. It takes about 1 minute for the GPS to lock for me, but my data is fine. No dropped calls or sms problems here. My download speed as I checked last was at 8.31 Mbps down and about 2 Mbps up.
But again, having horrible GPS issues. Wish I could figure that one out
Sobai can u post your results to *#1234#
so i can compare my settings to yours.
I'm using KG6 on Rogers network and don't have fantastic reception either. For most situations it holds calls -- but buildings with lots of concrete I lose the signal completely. It's as if I'm not truly on the 850 band ... my G1 had the same problem until I flashed a Bell-specific modem, that solved the problem. I guess we'll have to wait until Bell launches the G2 here, we'll be able to swipe the modem again.
i have an imported gs2 that i am using on rogers and it doesnt drop calls, but i have had times in the past when it would show 3g but not download any data. once i turned airplane mode on and off data would work fine again. the best radio for me has been the kf2 modem in terms of not having the data stalling issue. i find that even if i show no bars of strength i can still download data with no issue.
if you are on telus i would make sure so set the wireless settings to 3g only so the phone doesnt try to look for a 2g signal.
KG2 on a Bell SGS2 on Rogers/Fido network in Vancouver.
GPS locks in seconds. no dropped calls. H+ all the time, never once saw a 3G symbol. no data dropouts.
over 7Mbps down on this network with the SGS2, when i had 1/3rd the speeds an HTC Desire. great reception in my office downtown, my apartment, everywhere i've been so far.
KG2 (not the stock canadian though), in Montreal on the Virgin/Bell network. So far no complaints on the data. Since I started messing w/ the firmware however, the connection is on 3G when idle and only switches to H+ when actually in use. From what i've been reading many people have been noticing this when flashing over the stock Canadian firmware.
On the other hand however, the GPS has been having a hard time establishing a lock (whereas it used to be quite speedy and precise before I flashed). Won`t be able to test whether this is a firmware problem untill the stock Canadian is released by Samsung.

Wow guys I appreciate the feedback I thought I was the only one with this issue! I will definitely give kf2 a try right now and I'll also download the 3G only data app and give it a try and I'll get back to u guys with some feedback. Thanks again
Btw I'm using, touch x 3.2 rom that has kg5 on and I did notice a little improvement in the reception but the data connectivity is still very spotty so I'll give kf2 a try but so far kg5 modem is definitely the best one I seen so far to use on telus. Btw anyone trying to use the galaxy s2 on fido, I was never able to get 3G at all to work I was stuck on edge.

Do you know how I would be able to set it up so that it stays locked on 3G? I tried the *#301279# trick and disabling hsdpa and hsupa with revision 99 but to no avail. Even if it shows full bars and 3G I still get no data connection and also I can't send or receive texts unless there is a data connection for some reason, have you guys had this issue??

i have never needed to mess around with that menu. you should be able to go to
settings
wireless network
mobile networks
network mode
select wcdma only
that will lock it to 3 only. if you keep having issues you might get a new sim card from telus as that might be causing you some issues
Do you have your apn configured properly for your provider? If it isnt your data definitely work. Other then that I havent had these issues in edmonton on kg6 or maybe I just dont know what to expect reception wise. I do notice it hops from 3G to hspa to hspa+ a lot so i switched to only 3g. If anyone finds anything that improves that or reception though I would be interested

This information would be great because I am also experiencing spotty data connectivity (browser loads data, stalls, resumes centuries later) which results in severe crappy data speeds of 0.8mbps down and 0.07mbps up (done on in-browser speakeasy test and speedtest.net app.

I wish there was a way to extract the modem.bin file from the bell sgs2 this way we could simply distibute it around. Someone should root their phone, install cwm4 and make a backup and we could simply pass the backup around so we could all have the modem
Bell modem has already been posted to the forum.

Yes you can glash a modem using odin or using cwm.
If you are using stock rom that came preinstalled on your phone, then just stay with that modem as it is made for your region. Change the modem only if you get poor signal or browsing speeds
Different modems may improve or worsen your signal and data speeds. Most are carrier or country related.
Try them and monitor your signal to see which offers the best signal as a weak or poor signal can also impact battery life.
I'm using the older KI4/KI3 which gives me a good balance of signal, data speeds and battery life.

[Q] Need help to increase signal reception

Hi,
I have a question regarding the signal reception in basements of apartment or shopping complex.
I live in Germany and use O2. I notice that when I goto basement of my apartment or shopping complex I don't have signal on my mobile. where as I see that many people use their mobile in the same place. I dont know if they are using sim from different providers.
Are there any settings which i can do on the mobile that would increase signal strength ?
I am using checkRom HD V6 and below is the info
Code:
PDA: I9100XWLA4
Phone: I9100XXKL1
CSC: I9100XXKL1
Thanks all in advance
Try diffrent modems

What Makrilli said.
And here's a link to a collection of modems to get you started. All CWM flashable, takes a few minutes to flash, if you find a particular one doesn't work, simply flash another, etc. And if you search on here you'll find posts which link to/have attached to them even more modems for you to try.
thanks. will explore
also maybe just ask these people that get reception who they are with. Check the operating frequency of those providers and compare to the frequency of your provider. Lower frequencies will be able to penetrate through more walls etc so the lower the frequency the better the reception in areas such as basements, elevators, building etc. So if they operate on say 850mhz, and you on 900, you might have to accept reception in those places aint happening

Maximum signal strenght for Romanian carriers

My question is for all users from Romania, or other people that might have some usefull info.
I'm trying diffrent modems at the moment but I can't seem to get better signal than -89 dbm and 12 asu.
Could it be a carrier problem or a phone problem. I have installed Ressurection Remix v2.0 and my curent modem is KI4.
Before this i was on RR1.9 with LPS modem....and the signal strength was a bit lower.
If anyone from the region has better signal numbers please post them alongside with the modem you are using.
Cosmin.

hi Cosmin,
i'm using xxlpw modem with the same rom as you, and before the xxlpw i was using the bvlpb modem, and i have the same results as you -89 and 12 ASU.
I belive this are the best results we can get in our country.
Well I'm a bit disappointed by the quality of the signal. Perhaps someone with better signal quality will come along and tell us what we are doing wrong

[Q] 3g icon = better/worse connectivity?

hey, I own a i9100T (I recently discovered about the T at the end) and I'm trying out a few modems to find out which one gives me the best reception and battery times.
my question is does the 3G/H/H+ icon on the top mean anything about the quality of the connectivity or reception?
I remember seeing some 3G icon when I was on GB, which I haven't seen on ICS rom/modems (in my home, haven't tried outside).
with some modems I tried, I've seen H, others H/H+["USDPA 7.2mbps"], and with GB modems, I've seen more 3G ["UMTS 384kbps"]. does this mean I get better connectivity with 3G and I should stick with this one, or is it just semantics?
or perhaps the 3g is the worse of the two, as the 'noted' speeds would imply? (i'm leaning towards this answer...)
Thank You!!
edit:
found out that while most of the modems give me the same speed (may have something to do with network speed limits), I have different connections using other modems.
the most stable H+ connection is with the Thai TDCLP3
H connection is with most of ICS modems, including 4.0.4 ones
3G (UMTS) connection is stable with GB modems.
as I understand it now, H+ > H > 3G, right? (as to icons. HSPA > HSDPA > UMTS)
tech details:
I'm on an XWLPD rom as a base (w/ CF 5.5).
I might be on a 2MbPS limit contract, not sure about it.
now, when I've tested the various modems, most of them (except the original XXLPW and KP8 modems) gave me approx. the same results of about: 1950 dl, 940 ul, ping 50-100.
(LPW and KP8 gave me weird ul of about 50KbPS)
all in the same location, about the same time, and tested at least 2/3 times using the same app [speed test].
the modems I tried:
XXLPW (low ul)
XXKP8 (low ul)
XXLPX
XXLQ6
LQ5
TLLJP8 (branded Pelephone, IL - stock 4.0.3 modem on my network)
TDOLP4 (4.0.3)
TJJKI2 (one in which I've seen the 3G icon, but GB modem, 2.3.5)
TJJKF3 (same as TJJKI2, but a bit lower numbers, GB modem, 2.3.3)
TDCLP3 (4.0.3)
found most of them to be pretty much equivalent as to dl/ul speed. haven't tested other aspects seriously.
Mbps > kbps.
H+ > H > 3G
