Hello guys,
I have just bought myself a Samsung Galaxy S II from Komplett.no:
http://www.komplett.no/k/ki.aspx?sku=631205#extra
Product Number = GT-I9100LKANEE
I have been using a HTC Desire HD and wanted to get all my data from that phone to my new Galaxy S II. A friend of mine told me to root both phones and use Titanum Backup to backup all data from my HTC and restore it on my new Galaxy S II.
Before I begun I updated my firmware through the update button on my phone, then started rooting.
I rooted my Galaxy S II with this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056334
Short summary: downloaded Odin3-v1.85 and XWKDD_insecure.tar. Set my phone to debugging mode, rebooted into download mode. Odin showed that is was connected. Pressed PDA button and selected the XWDD_insecure.tar file and pressed start. Phoen rebooted and it was rooted.
I got all my data restored from Titanum backup.
Then my phone started acting wierd. Suddenly no one could either call or send me sms. I had to reboot the phone several times to get it to work again. This was early starting to frustrate me and I started to google this problem and found no spesific solution.
I then started to wanting to reset my phone back to factory. Unroot my phone and reset all settings. I unrooted my phone again with SuperOneClick.
Then a new error started showing. I could not connect to any WLAN's. Tried resetting my phone to default several times without luck.
Then I started to look for the original firmware because now I want my phone back to normal as it was when I got it from the shop. I started to look for original firmware, thinking this would help. I have now tried severel firmwares (upgraded via Odin) but still having problems with WLAN and now also sometimes people can't call or send me sms.
This is really starting to get on my nerves And I REALLY wan't your help! I am a noob at this so maybe I have done something wrong?
I also get a message on KIES that the phone/firmware installed does not support updating. The firmware I now am using is as follow: I9100XWKI8/I9100XXKI2/I9100XXKI4/I9100XWKI8
Model number = GT-I9100
Android version: 2.3.5
Baseband version = I9100XXKI4
Kernel version = 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKI8-CL616395 [email protected] #2
Build number = GINGERBREAD.XWKI8
PLEASE HELP ME reststoring/resetting my phone like it was before I opened the case it came in. I DONT want the phone rooted, I now just want it as normal as it can be. Original state.
First of all, what is your product code? The original should be on the box.
You can use that to search Intratech firmware thread. Flash via Odin and phone with USB debugging on and then connect to PC USB in download mode. Follow his flashing instructions and you should be fine.
Edit1: [ROM+Guide]Official i9100 Firmwares KG, KH1/2/3/4, KI1/2/3/4/8, KJ1/2/3 Download
Edit2: Use this website and use your prodict code to find your HIDSWVER; PDA / CSC/ Phone, then go to Intratech's thread and find the original firmware. Then flash.

I'll let you know how it goes...
Doesnt really matter what your original firmware was. As lonf as your phone the European and not US or Korean or something like that, pick up the latest firmware and kernel from the intratech thread and flash both as per the instructions there and root it using chainfires insecure kernel.
That ought to do the trick. It will wipe out all your data btw.
I've just checked for you from the Product Code you supplied in your first post: GT-I9100LKANEE. If this is correct, you can flash the following firmware from Intratech's Thread. Use Odin (disable KIES) with the firmware button "PDA".

Yes, that's correct. But he was after to returning it to how it was out of the box. . So I spent a little time to help him with the way forward.
Ok, thank you! I have now done the following:
1) Set my phone to USB Debugging
2) Shut phone down
3) Connect it to USB on my PC
4) Started phone in Download Mode
5) Started ODIN (Run as Admin)
6) Clicked on PDA and browed to the file I downloaded (the file you mentioned over)
7) Clicked on START
8) Phone rebooted
Still having trouble connecting to WLAN and KIES is still telling me that it is not supporting upgrade!
This is the latest build for your product code, so there won't be any until released for that particular product code.
You could try flashing an earlier Android version for your product code?
Take a look at Intratech's Firmware Thread again. The very first Official Firmware XWKDD . This may be Android version 2.3.3 .......very old
You will have to flash the stock kernel separately after the firmware.

2nd Option: Root using Chainfire's CF-Root Kernel, with your latest installed firmware.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
Just flash his rooted stock kernel via Odin same as firmware. Done. Will give you root and a custom recovery CWM Recovery.
As wifi drivers are found in the kernel, you might like to try some custom kernels instead? Maybe you'll get better performance. You can flash custom kernels via CWM Recovery by placing on your sdcard and installing from zip from within recovery.
Edit: I believe this should be it?

If you do decide to give a custom kernel a try. I would recommend siyahkernel v2.2

Thank you! That kernel seemed to be the right one for me Now I can connect to the WLAN.
But what exactly do I need to do If I any time need service on my phone? Just unroot it with SuperOneClick? If I wanna use the warranty on the phone. Just a question.
To return to stock, just flash your original "updated" firmware with Odin. This will also remove root.
To reset the binary flash counter and remove warning triangle (seen in download mode), search Ebay for "Samsung USB jig". It costs about $2 . Can also force the phone into download mode when phone is off, and if your phone is "soft" bricked. Well worth it, as I used it myself to return one SGS2 for warranty. You can make it too with old male micro USB plug and 301k ohm resistor.

And my last question is, will I get the updates via the update in settings -> about? Or do I have to download the custom once from xda and flash my phone?
Actually can't 100% remember.
90% think no updates. You can just download official from Intratech thread, he updates almost as soon as they're available, and flash via Odin. You will loose root though, so make sure there is a compatible CF-Root Kernel first.
Alternatively, try a custom ROM and kernel such as in my signature. CheckROM 3.1.1 (KJ3) & siyahkernel v2.2 kernel (governor - Smartassv2 with SetCPU app) . Can be highly customized, only if you wish, or stock look.
Custom ROM's are regularly updated by developers to latest build.

I am still having trouble with my WLAN!
It worked great for a while, but suddenly it won't connect to WLAN's I have been connected to before Thought I had gotten a good working driver for my WLAN! The kernel is the same as when it worked.
Any tips and tricks?
Hello again......Not good my friend
What kernel are you running, stock our custom?
Have you tried re-flashing the kernel separately to any firmware?
Do you have root again?
Do you have any issues connecting to any other network router, our just one?
Does any other device have connection issues with that particular router?

I am using the following kernel:
XW_NEE_KI8: 2.3.5, CF-Root v4.3, SU 3.0.2, "insecure"
from this thread -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...5&d=1318061076
Your second question is answered by the above answer that's a different kernel that did not come with the firmware.
Yes I have root
Yes, I have issues connecting to work and home router and there is nothing wrong with those since there are alot of other devices and computers connected to those WLAN's.
Just had a thought.....
Try setting up your connection to the router with router settings "broadcast SSID" name visible, keep other security enabled.
I had a similar problem where my HTC DHD would not connect to router after reboot, but would only connect with SSID (router name) visible.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
I really don't think that will help anything. It has worked before I started rooting and flashing
Mate, all I can think of is for you to try a very good custom kernel. Maybe have modified our better wifi drivers.
One I can highly recommend is;
[KERNEL] SiyahKernel v2.3 - "One kernel to rule them all" (SAMMY&AOSP ROMs)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17583217
You can download for flash via Odin or CWM Recovery (from internal our external sdcard .zip)
Give it a try, sorry can't come up with anything else right now.

Use Odin to flash speed mod kernel. Place it in the PDA and flash. You can download it from his thread here on xda. Just search Google.
Steps:
1. Download the kernel
2. Put phone in download mode (down volume, home and power)
3. Open Odin and click PDA and then find the speedmod kernel found here ( http://vln01.helochat.com/tourist/speedmod-kernel-s2-k2-21-Odin.tar )
4. Flash!!

just put that in pda in odin and flash
thats how i did it, its already rooted and has CWM then flash whatever rom or kernel you want if you want (that one's out dated now)
and the kernel the guy above said will be already rooted aswell so no need to use s2root

Hi, I'm pretty new to this too.
Just wondering, I used "GT-I9100_XWKI8_insecure.tar" to flash my Galaxy SII, then s2root. I get superuser, but I can't find CWM.
Can I use this kernel you guys posted as well? Or is it for his specific phone?
I'm really having problems getting CWM, and I'm scared of trying stuff before getting a backup.
So if installing that kernel installs CWM as well, and works for my model too, then I'm going for it.
Thanks.
hi, i have just recently got another galaxy s2 after nicely cracking the screen on my old one :S the stats are as follows
galaxy s2
4.0.3
i9100xxlps
3.0.1519100xwlp7sl340913
i downloaded and flashed the closes kernal which was xxlp6 (this was the closest) and now it seems stuck in the start up screen, odin flashes it successfully and it starts to reboot but all i have on screen is samsung galaxys11 with yellow triangle and it just hangs there and won't go any further, i followed the instructions to the letter so i don't know whats gone wrong, i found this thread and i have found and downloaded the speedmod kernal and tried to flash that over using odin, again it says successfull but will not go past the loading screen, please help i don't know what to do or what i could have possibly done wrong
thanks in advance, emma

Well basically I been looking around the whole forum for insecure and secure DUKJ1 files and there all outdated because the hosting site went down.
My phones stats:
Android: 2.3.5
Baseband Version: I9100TDUKJ1
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-I9100TDUKJ1-CL687461 [email protected] #2
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.DUKJ1
is it possible to root my phone?
Also I got told to use this CF-Root-SGS2_XW_LUX_KJ1-v5.0-CWM5, is that the best at the moment or is there better?
Thank you.
Yes, use the KJ1 CFRoot kernel & follow the flashing instructions in that thread. As Chainfire hosts his own files, you won't have any problems downloading this kernel.

Wow I thought it would have been heaps more technical then that, I also ordered a USB Jig from ebay just incase. Thanks mate I really appreciate it.
Nah, pretty easy. 10 steps or so, follow those to the letter & you shouldn't have any probs & will have a rooted phone in a few minutes.
Good move getting a jig early in the piece too Makes removing the yellow boot triangle easy (you don't have to fiddle around & flash stock kernels, etc, etc) & if you ever need to send the phone in for warranty service you can reset the flash counter in seconds.
No worries Post in here if you have any dramas.

Good. Glad the root went smoothly
Yep. You need to get an app like Titanium Pro or Gemini App Manager from the Market (there are others both free & paid). These apps enable you to freeze (which I recommend) or uninstall apps you don't want/like.
This thread is a good one which will give you an idea of what's safe to freeze/remove and what isn't. There should also be a link to a spreadsheet of same somewhere in that thread as well.
Edit to add - This thread is also a good reference for AU SGS2 users.

There is an app called quarantine or something like that which will also let you "freeze" bloatware apps. It's free but I recommend buying titanium backup.

wont restart
phone wont restart after flashing with odin3, any ideas?
Will reboot until Samsung logo and yellow triangle appear but then shows a blank screen
i can place the phone back into downloading mode but that is about it.
Phone is DUKj1
flashed using CF Root as in this thread.
Boot into recovery (turn phone off, hold power/home/volume up), do a wipe/factory reset). If you can't do that, have a look at the Bootloop thread. If you can't get into recovery, your best bet would be to flash a stock rom & start with a clean slate. If you do go down that path, get the PC version of Checkfus (search for it on here/Google) & download the latest Voda stock ICS rom.

Um... downloading and installing VillianRom 1.1 made your build show VillainROM 1.1 instead of breadcrumb? Seriously? Of course it will show the version of what you flashed. And what is breadcrumb?
Also, VillianROM is pre-rooted, I believe.

My phone, also Samsung Galaxy S2 with Vodafone Australia, was originally a DUKJ1 but has been updated to the new 4.1.2 android via vodafone's official OTA updates. this has subsequently killed my GPS. I have found a solution to fix the GPS, but it requires me to root my phone (http://www.notaboutthenumbers.com/2012/01/19/samsung-galaxy-s2-gps-problem-solved/). Of course, I did not realise my GPS was broken until i went on an interstate trip this weekend - so, major inconvenience/stress there that should never have happened (modern technology, eh?).
I am confident rooting will be ok, but now that my phone has been updated, it is no longer DUKJ1, it is now LS3 and i cannot find a kernel for it (in neither XDA, Google, nor http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399). Android enthusiasts page had this to say to someone in a situation like mine: http://android.stackexchange.com/qu...-galaxy-s2-with-unconventional-kernel-version (summary: just use a 'many' method - which would be??).
Any ideas? Can i still use the DUKJ1 file, or is the difference between different versions of firmware like the difference between, say, windows XP and Vista. in essence, will it brick my phone to use DUKJ1? Is there a secret trick for finding the right kernel to download? edit: just saw this, can i use it? is it generic (a 'many' method)? > http://www.gokhanmoral.com/?cat=5 | http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OOaTscV92gU)
Thanks.
Yes. That version of Siyah should work just fine with the Android version you're currently running.

Awesome! thanks for the quick reply. Just done it (as per the sihay youtube video) and it is rooted
Now to try the GPS fix.... which is a no-go, unfortunately. I have come across the same issue as other users of that app, which is that both the 'enable' and 'disable' of static navigation are both greyed out and the model number is not detected by the app (even though mine is the same as in the market screenshots!)
Well, at least i have made the plunge into rooted S2. hopefully i can find another GPS solution soon.
Thanks!
You're welcome
There's many 'GPS fixes' on here, as to whether they work or not, I can't say as I've never had problems with it. However, this thread a couple of months back looked promising & might be a starting point.
Hi all,
My main objective, in the end, is to install CM9 on my Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100G because i heard its the best and its really fast. Also, i am done waiting for ICS to be pushed through kies.
So first step is rooting my phone. I tried twice and twice i failed. The first time when i flashed a kernel via odin, it rebooted my phone and i didn't have Superuser. The second time i did that with a different kernel, my screen kept getting stuck at booting page where it was written "Samsung Galaxy s2" and below it a yellow exclamation mark. So i flashed my phone once again with my old 2.3.6 android pda and now its back to normal. I found out it was the wrong kernel i was flashing.
So now i want professional help. I searched the forum, i couldn't find anything.
I want to root my phone. I want to install ICS CM9 on it.

Ok, so thats my information. Can someone please give me the download link of what to flash in order to root my phone? All this time i have been doing the wrong thing.
I found a few threads on something called "SUPER ROM v3.1" and stuff, but i didn't try it out because i don't know what it is. Can someone please give me a detailed explanation about all this?
Also if i take my phone for servicing, can they find out in any way that i rooted by phone (even if i unroot it before taking it there)?
Highly appreciated,

That problem of the yellow exclamation on my screen i solved. I simply put my phone on download mode and flashed a 2.3.6 android pda and my phone rebooted fine.
My question is how do i root my phone? Dont give me short forms n stuff, i want a proper tutorial. I dont want to mess up this time. Gimme the download link of the kernel that will suit my phone specifications in order to root my phone! I have flashed the wrong one twice and i am scared of my phone getting bricked if i experiment anymore. I want an expert here on XDA to give me a 100% compatible link that will let me root my phone.
Also , i want to install CM9 ICS on my phone also, so if anyone could link me to that too (which i will do after i root my phone), it would be nice. Otherwise, simply telling me how to root my phone, and what to download for it, would be fine too.
Appreciated.

well i did tell you how i did root my mobile by simply flashing a kernel called Lucifr and it's working smoothly...hope you try it
I got that. I went to your link. Downloaded the Lucifr kernel 1.6uv 200Mhz TAR version and flashed it with odin. It failed.
How do you do it?

Hi all,
My main objective, in the end, is to install CM9 on my Samsung Galaxy S2 GT-I9100G because i heard its the best and its really fast.
Model Number : GT-I9100G
Android Version : 2.3.6
Baseband Version : I9100GDDKL1
Kernel Version : 2.6.35.7
[email protected] #2
Build Number : GINGERBREAD.XWLC2
Ok, so thats my information. Can someone please give me the download link of what to flash in order to root my phone? All this time i have been doing the wrong thing.
I found a few threads on something called "SUPER ROM v3.1" and stuff, but i didn't try it out because i don't know what it is. Can someone please give me a detailed explanation about all this?
Also if i take my phone for servicing, can they find out in any way that i rooted by phone (even if i unroot it before taking it there)?
Highly appreciated,
Icy

ok first of all cm9 is not available for i9100g (your device),and if you give your phone is gone for servicing while it is rooted then it will be against warranty so unroot it first, and to root it you can flash an rooted kernel link is here :
http://www.mediafire.com/?0nmccnoly0ioqx3
its cranium kernel
Hi guys noob here!
keepin it brief, i have brought a rooted galaxy s2 I9100.
it all works fine except:
- i cannot upload any data (songs/videos) to the fone
- update to ice cream sandwich (error message after data download)
- i cannot connect via kies air (browser error after connection)
attempting to re-root i have found a CNET how to root guide but with no luck
- my current kernel v is [email protected] #2
i have matched the closest insecure as well as secure kernel (I9100XWKDG) & attempted to flash them using Odin 3 but no luck
- i cannot unroot the phone either as i cannot flash a secure kernel using Odin 3
can anyone advise how to get the unusable phone features working again?
i dont mind if the phone is rooted or not
Grab a branded or unbranded stock rom or go to samfirmware and get a stock rom from there, flash the device and start fresh if you not bothered about root and want the stock apps back.
Selection of stock ics roms here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487
im not to keen on wiping the fone just yet as i haven't backed it up fully,
in the meantime i downloaded odin3 v3.04 (was using v1.83 earlier) & re-attempted to flash the insecure kernel
the result was ''complete (write) operation failed''
any idea what this means ?
Edit: removed as I think I misunderstood some of your post.
So you are unable to flash the stock rom using ODIN?
Any how, not sure what it is going on, maybe you are not flashing the correct file.
I believe it is better not to use ODIN to root your phone, the new method to root is the safest and the easiest and you dont have to worry about your baseband version.
Here is the link on how to root GS2, the files needed can be downloaded from the link below the video.

Good Luck.

Odin.
Remember that you need to download Samsung Kies Drivers previosuly. And, remember, WHILE YOU USE ODIN, KEEP KIES CLOSED.
Good luck!
Hello everyone..
Sorry if this thread is similar any other intro available here. My previous device was LG O2X, and now SGS2 (GT-I9100, Malaysia). My mind still stuck with LG's environment (ROM tools, region firmware and so on). I've tried to understand all the device properties, but still i can't understand any of it. Here is my questions:-
1) Can someone teach me how to read and understand all the numbers+alphabets in the "About Phone"? How to know my ROM is specific for
SEA region?
2) For stock firmware, is it only available at SamMobile website, or also available here (XDA Development area)?
3) Is the firmware update different with other region? Like mine is 4.0.3, but red there is 4.0.4..
Thanks in advance to whoever answer this thread. Really appreciate it. Thank you again.

U can check the build number in 'About phone' and serach on XDA to no more about the same or google it
2) For stock firmware, is it only available at SamMobile website, or also available here (XDA Development area)?
Alternatively u can dwnld the same from HERE

AFAIK it is a MultiCSC rom so has to be an international one
There is a thread which breaks the numbers/letters down to show countries/versions etc.

Theres dozens of variants and loads of roms.Your hit with all that and its daunting.
You just post the info you see in settings>about phone or dial *#1234# and you get faster/more accurate help.
You have loads of choices what to do next. You can just upgrade to 4.0.4 and leave it at that.Or do that and only root(means you can remove bloatware and use apps that only work on root).
Theres also a couple of things you may need to know if your planning on not solely staying on stock stuff.
eg 4.0.4 brickbug/efs backup/nand backup.
Just post if you need more info.
Now im getting really3x confused.. Attached is my phone abouts and versions, but seems i cant find my factory default firmware versions. And also my Kies says "your device does not support software upgrading via kies"..
Note: My plan is to use totally stock ICS, root, remove unused apps and services, use CPUEditor (force dual-core) and edit framework to AOSP ICS.. Firmware to look for is for SEA region (Malaysia)
Ok mate a small break down
Getting Malaysian firmware
Singapore and Malaysia both use DX for firmware. For example i am using
DXLPA
Red section stands for the region in this case Malaysia Singapore
Green stands for the firmware version there are lots e.g. LP9 LPB
The latest one is DXLPF for Malaysia.
So from what i see the one you are using is not for Malaysia so this is what you do. (THIS WILL WIPE AWAY ALL YOU APPS)
1. Check this out Flashing Firmware with Odin
2. Download Odin
3. Download Malaysia latest firmware here
4. Boot into stock recovery ( When phone is off press Home+Vol up+Power buttons )
5. Do a factory reset
6. Now take battery out and boot into download mode ( When phone is off press Home+Vol Down+Power buttons )
7. Follow the steps to use odin
8. Now when update is done phone should run the proper Malaysia firmware
9. Download this into the phone here
10. Make sure CSC is set to XME
11. Done. Now you got pure Malaysia firmware
Ok now for rooting
DO NOT USE ROM MANAGER FOR THIS PHONE!!!
Im not sure about the 2X but samsung phones are different. Think of it as the recovery and kernel as one package. Some phones the recovery is a img while the boot is a whole other img but for samsung phones its all in one. To "root" your phone you must flash a kernel which will at the same time give you CWM. (but after doing this you can no longer get official samsung updates, so i recommend you rather jump straight to custom rom)
For getting custom rom:
1. Download any version of CWM from here
2. Download your desired Rom/kernel or both
3. Place files in externel SDcard
4. Boot into stock recovery (Press Home + Power + Vol Up) when phone is off
5. Flash the temp recovery from the stock recovery
6. Do a backup
7. Wipe the usual stuff data/cache
8. Flash accordingly
9. Reboot
10. Now you got custom rom + stock rom backup
For getting root/custom kernel + CWM only:
1. Download any version of CWM from here
2. Download desired kernel
3. Place files in externel SDcard
4. Boot into stock recovery (Press Home + Power + Vol Up) when phone is off
5. Flash the temp recovery from the stock recovery
6. Flash kernel
7. Reboot.
8. Now you got root + CWM
My recommended
kernel : Dorimanx
Rom : Resurrection Remix (ICS or JB)
Thanks grift.. Now i understand.. No wonder there are lots of users using custom kernel.. Will try your methods and link tonight..
Edit: There is no way on earth to maintain the stock kernel, when i root and use CWM is it? I HAVE TO USE custom kernel, by hook or by crook. I can't just root, then install CWM from PlayStore right?

Rom manager is not compatible with the i9100... yes its in the app but it bricks phones. Another method... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746794 no recovery but has root and BB. I never tried that before
Is it because of "Insane chip" brickbug thingy? Now Im worried what Im going to do..

Yes (for .tar or .tar.md5 rom files). In PC odin leave everything default (don't tick re-partition!)
Edit: It happens that a rom comes with 3 files - then PDA, PHONE and CSC should be selected accordingly.
Thanks Many40.. I have another question though..
From what I red, this Brickbug is caused by CWM that certain version is not compatible with SGS2.. This makes me feel afraid to change my rom/bb/kernel to Malaysia standard.
My plan is:-
1. Flash Malaysia rom with Odin (as
linked)
2. Root
3. CWM (this is confuse matter)
4. Bloatware removal using
RootExplorer
5. Minor tweaks (CPU Editor, init.d,
bla bla bla..)
My goal is to keep stock as possible, with my own tuning. I've played with O2X, but never heard that CWM causing total brick like this. Hope you / any experts out there can guide me about this, since Im still newbie about SGS2.
Info: The attached pics were my device firmware info (bought from a friend who doesn't know anything about SGS2 Development, and said updated ICS through Kies).

Hi, Super brick bug is not caused by CWM itself but when you perform some operation from (doesn't matter) stock recovery or custom CWM recovery. This operation is eg. wipe data/factory reset.
So, you are exposed to this bug if you have a kernel based on sources where MMC_CAP_ERASE is present and your eMMC chip is insane. AFAIK all stock ICS 4.0.4 kernels are concerned.
So, if you decide to switch to ICS 4.0.4 you will be saved from the bug if you flash a kernel which has MMC_CAP_ERASE set to "0" (disabled).
Staying on stock kernel on ICS 4.0.4 is very dangerous.
In this case I recommend (still to be as close to stock as possible) to:
1. flash your rom via odin
2. just after flash this: PhilZ-CWM6 kernel via odin as well
This kernel is a stock kernel with root, custom CWM recovery and MMC_CAP_ERASE disabled (super brick bug - safe)
3. Then you can continue with point 4 and further
BTW The rom from the pictures: XXLPQ / OXALPQ it's Polish unbranded ICS 4.0.3 (not exposed to super brick bug).
With what Ive read it is you that is battling against yourself(if you see what I mean). If you want as close to stock as possible then
If the lastest stock malaysia rom is 4.0.4 then thats the one with the brickbug in it.
So to counteract that, you flash a kernel that protects you from that.
But you dont want to do that as then its not as close to stock.
You have a few options, but if you want 4.0.4,then its best to get away from stock kernel.
If you stay on 4.0.3 then you have nothing to worry about.
I dont know the benefits of going from stock 4.0.3>4.0.4 as I use GB.
I do know that a lot of people get nothing but trouble using 4.0.4.
Ok.. I understood more with this explanations.. Correct me if im wrong..
1. I've check at sammobile, latest Malaysia rom is still 4.0.3.. Does it means that this rom version is safe from "brickbug"? (for stock recovery and CWM recovery)
2. Before I begin flash, rom file from sammobile only to be used at "PDA" section, is it? At which website that gives separated rom files?
3. Is there any other methods to root, else than using Odin with custom kernel?
"Hope this post will be my last confusion matter.."

1) yes 4.0.3 stock ics roms are safe from Brick bug for sure ma8
2) yes u have to use the "PDA" section and leave "repartion" unchecked u have to install samsung drivers first on ur PC for it to recognise ur phone
3)rooting thro ODin with custom kernel like siyah or Dorimanx is the best way for u since they r tried and trusted
hope things are clear for u know
Lets say that I want to stay my default rom stock ics kernel.. Will I be able to root (without any other kernels) and install CWM (Rom Manager) as I've done to my previous phone? Just curious..
Edit: Sorry guys.. Such a silly questions.. Found all the answers already.. Silly me.. :screwy:
