Likely a silly question regarding the yellow triangle - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

If I flash a rom using Clockwork Recovery will the yellow triangle be activated? Or is it just kernel flashing?

No, only flashing a non stock kernel in Odin will.

Ahh so Odin is the culprit, thanks!

To be precise, the download-mode is the culprit. As far as I know the heimdall-suite will increment it too.

I used Heimdall and it does increment the flash counter.

Easiest way to remove warning triangle and reset the counter is to buy (or make) a "Samsung USB jig" on EBay for around $2.
Another advantage is it can also help to force your phone into download mode if "soft bricked".
Very handy, I have two !!, and has been very useful when returning one phone for warranty (after flashing back official firmware to remove to remove traces of custom ROM and root)
So easy to use; power off, insert jig, phone auto boots into DL mode and resets counter and remove triangle, remove jig, hold power for 5-10 secs to shut off phone. Done
Edit: So in short, advise to order the jig now, then don't worry about the counter & warning triangle, and just flash awayyyyyyyyyyyy

What firmware are you using? If you're using the new bootloader post-2.3.4, then using the jig won't work, unless you flash the old bootloader. Samsung blocked the reseting of the counter with their update...
You have to visit Intratech's thread and follow his instructions on flashing the old bootloader or new firmware with old bootloader.
You can visit the thread right here

[Q] Get backup after the phone has been rooted?

Hi, I think im gonna root my phone. And if i root it and then install custom ROMS and themes. If my phone has a problem and i need to give it back to the store, could i restore it to normal(not rooted) and then give it back to the store?
and if i can, How can i do this?
Yes, before giving it you have to put the Stock firmware back and use an USB Jig (Ebay) to reset the ROM counter. They won't understand if your phone was being rooted or installed with a Custom firmware or any Mods.
Regards.
You can, as long as they don't check the binary flash counter. Your phone counts the times you flashed custom roms. Recovering a backup does not reset this counter.
You need a USB Jig to reset this counter. A home-made usb device you stick into your phone's usb port. I'll make one when I need it, my phone doesn't look like it's about to stop working.
I have one USB at home, but what should i do with it?
What is the stock firmware? and how do you reset the ROM counter with it?
To reset turn phone off .
Connect USB jig phone boots to download mode counter now zero .
Remove jig and reboot .
Stock firmware is the Samsung firmware released to the phone providers for customization,
DEV section Stock Firmware and Branded rom posts .
jje
so if i get a problem with my rootet phone, this is what i do:
1. turn of my phone
2. plug in my empty usb that i have at home
3. then wait
4. then done
is that it?

No
USB jig has two uses ONE to put a phone into download mode where the phone itself will not go to download mode via the Vol Down + Home + PWR keys .
Plus it will reset the binary rom counter to zero .
It has nothing to do with root and will not fix any problems bar the two above .
Dont really know if you understand what has been posted .
One a USB RECOVERY JIG is not an empty usb .

jje
i dont have a JIG , so its not good that i root my phone, right?
Nah nah, you won't root cause you don't have a Jig is meaningless. You just need the Jig to Rest the ROM counter, and that you will do if you need to service your phone. Otherwise it's NO problem.

Bricked. NO recovery and JIG did NOT work

Hi, i bricked my phone flashing KI3 with new bootloader found in here, but Odin got stuck so i removed the phone.
Now it does not go in recovery and in download mode neither. I have already trying using the JIB with no luck
What to do now?
Answering to a question.

Does it have a form of hboot? I fixed my brothers bricked galaxy using Odin but if u can put the SAPPIMG file on a SD card and boot to hboot mode that might work. If that's what ur already mean by JIG then mybad

What's hboot? As i said i can't enter in download mode or recovery mode
AFAIK The official ki3 updates the bootloader and that blocks the usb jig.

The JIG does not get blocked with the new bootloaders, it just does not clear the counters in the same way, but DLM can still be entered with the JIG.

I can't power on the phone. It's totally dead
Recovery is as follows
One enter Download Mode
No Download Mode then try USB Jig to force download mode .
Phone off put usb jig in usb port boots to download mode .
Fails
Then its a service centre job .
jje
plug your jigg in your phone and then you will come in the download mode,
don't restart your phone. plug your usb-cable in, then open ODIN
find stock rom and flash it.

Bro, I know but sometimes you can not open Download mode, so with JIG you can come in to Download mode
then you flash the stock with ODIN

Jeez no download mode jig does not work as posted .
I gave a run through of correct route just in case OP was doing something wrong with a return to service centre if all failed .

Yeah the JIG does not work, i will contact a service centre tomorrow
Just curious... Does anyone know what sort of gear a service centre might have that can talk to a SGS2 after its gone to such a 'dark place' that even a JIG can't wake it up? I always thought a JIG was all you needed...

bootloader error

I flashed wrong bootloader in my sgs2, and now it wont even started, the usb is disabled and not working plz help
Can you get into download mode (turn phone off; then hold volume down & home button, while you're holding these down press the power button until it boots into download mode) ?
If you can't, there's a very slim chance a jig might get you into download mode. Search for "Samsung Galaxy S2 jig" on eBay, or have a look at the thread in the General section where people are offering to let people near them use their jigs. Might be someone living near you who has a jig/might let you use theirs.
If the jig doesn't work, you'll need to send it back to your carrier/Samsung for repair, but they more than likely won't fix it under warranty. Alternatively, you could send it to a 3rd party for a JTAG repair which will probably be cheaper for you than Samsung fixing it.
But before you start worrying about that, try getting into download mode then try a jig.
Follow what mistah said above, download the correct bootloader for your phone, and follow the instructions above to get into recovery and flash the boot loader tar file in the boot loader section of Odin, your computer may not recognise the USB as a drive but Odin should recognize it as a com port, it can be done I did it no so long ago if you get stuck give me a shout and I'll talk you through it

Odin, not oden.
Heimdall.
But considering you've probably hosed your device with the wrong bootloader, your only form of rescue is likely to be JTAG.

I had the same once dont panic, you can get dowlaod mode with a jig,
if you have no jig, try pulling battery out put back and Vol-down+Home+power to get download mode,
this time you flash with corrected all pc issues and well chaged battery

Well I am not at all in electronics so is there any other solution?
or should I go to Samsung customer service as it is still in warranty?
only solution left is jig for you to try yourself...
do you have any influence at service center??? then try for warranty
in normal case warantee is already void with this type of issue, you can only try your luck.....
You have a simple problem
Hold vol up+home+power for 4 secs when the phone is off and do a factory reset
EDIT: Do you have a i9100 or i9100G?
i am pretty sure you got yourself a soft brick, though i am not 100% confirm. however, since your phone got reaction, i assume that is not a hard brick (getting yourself a hard brick is very rare and very hard).
just get yourself a usb jig, it should be fine. you can refer to my thread for FAQ of usb jig.

Hmm strange, but odin still recognizes my phone as it displays the yellow colored extreme left column. Can't it be fixed through odin by flashing again?
Have you heard about this - "One-Click UnBrick" which I mentioned in one of my post above.

You will really brick your phone if you use captivate unbrick tool
1.Turn off phone
2.Press and hold power+vol down+home key at the same time and when you see some different screen then press vol up again
3.Connect phone to PC and flash stock rom from odin(don't really know if you know that)

when I press "power+vol down+home" it shows that same thing, that is "phone + ! + computer" so does that matter or I just need to follow this command and flash after that?
and vol up need to be pressed alone or along with power and home?
And also can you provide me the link to the right stock rom and if possible not a mutliupload link as multiupload site is not loading for me.

I am trying other ways at the moment, if nothing works then I have no other option other than USB JIG. Thanks for the post!

Thanks to all those who gave their precious time, appreciated!

Flashing my i777 back to factory from i9100

I bought this phone used 2 of my buttons would not work, and my voice calls can not be heard on either end of the call. I later found out that someone must have flashed my phone to GT i9100. The model on the back says its a i777. Well I read this article http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1313659 and found out that I need to reset my binary count which is showing 3. So I purchased a usb jig, turned my phone off and plugged it in. It puts it in odin mode but my count still reads the same. I am not very smart when it comes to all of this, it has taken me 3 weeks just to figure all of this out. But any help is appreciated on what I would need to do next.

Read the stickies more. There is a return to stock thread you can use
Resetting the flash counter would only benefit you if you were trying to do warranty exchange. If your phone has already been flashed there is more than likely a custom recovery like cwm installed, if so you could just download a ROM and flash it. Do you get the option to go into recovery from power menu? It would come up as an option after pushing power button then selecting reboot.
Edit...you could also try to boot into recovery by using the buttons. With phone off power on while holding power button plus volume up and volume down then releasing power button when first screen starts.
Sorry to be so late to the party.
The fact that you can not reset the flash counter with the jig means that when the I9100 firmware was flashed, the I-777 secondary bootloader was replaced with a modified GT-I9100 secondary bootloader. This in itself will make no functional difference, but you can reflash the I777 secondary bootloader if you wish. See the Download Repository. There is also the alternative of resetting the flash counter with an application called Triangle Away.
