Hi all, I'm new to this forum and I have a question about installing kernels for this device for a friend.
Basically, he rooted this phone, installed clockwork and installed miui. I just can't seem to figure out how to install kernels on this device. Could someone please point me in the right direction? I would appreciate it sooooo much!!!
Model: SCH-I500
Android 2.2.1
Baseband ver: S:I500.04 V.EB01
Kernel: 2.6.32.9 [email protected] #1 Jan 29 2011
Miui build: 1.3.5

Thank you in advance...

You boot in CWM recovery and install from SD card.
It gave me an error. Cwm said something about not being able to run scripts.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App
You need an older version of CWM. Not sure how you get that without a computer.
Or you can try to flash this version http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=942021
Thanks Nunyazz...BTW, if I do get a pc to get this installed, which version of Cwm do you recommend I download?
Thanks again for all your kind help!

The one in the above post. It is the latest that is compatible with all roms.
There are odin and CWM versions available.
You can install older version of CWM from Rom Manager. Also, flashing a ROM (Superclean) will put the older version (red 2.5) on your phone for you.
Cool! Thank you soooo much guys!

I've tried many .ftf 2.1.1.A.0.6 files, and everything installs fine with flashtool, but when i try to root with z4root, i get blocked. I couldn't root any so far.
Can you provide a .ftf file of kernel 2.1.1.A.0.6 and baseband 015 that can root? Thanks anyway, xda!!!
And it's nothing wrong if i have baseband 015 with 2.0.a.504, right?
The requirements of the roms are to the the baseband 015, not the kernel, right?
I have 2.6.29
Anybody?
Sent from my U20i using XDA App
for root 2.1.1.A.0.6 use superoneclick then if you want to install costum rom you mus have baseband 015 and build version 2.1.1.A.0.6.
Thanks, but I knew that already. The roms work also fine on baseband 006, but you cant use all features, like apps to sd. But that's not the problem.
I tried to root an original 2.1.1.a.0.6 se rom and it couldn't root!!!
I tried universal androot, z4root, superoneclick, but just didn't root.
I found this thing: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=906742
Can someone confirm that it can root, I tried 6 2.1.1.a.0.6 builds and neither rooted!

Sent from my X10a using XDA Premium App
You'll need the flashtool which you can get from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=928343
Take your time reading & learning the posts.
You'll also need XRECOVERY which you can install from the flashtool. How to instructions are also on the link above.
Then you'll have to decide which custom ROM to install. Here are 2 examples of custom ROMs which gives you the option to install with STOCK or CUSTOM KERNELS.
If you want to stay on 2.1:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=941745
If you want to try 2.2:

Yes you can flash that through xrec. When you download the file, unzip it to your PC and you'll see an APPS folder, BASEBAND folder and update zip file. Make sure you use BB52 otherwise that rom will not work. If you look in the basband folder, it actually includes the flashtool so all you have to do is flash the included BB then reboot in xrec to flash update.zip.

The zkernel you'll have to use on a different rom that's compatible with it because the CM7 rom that you asked about above contains it's own customer kernel.

1. You'll have to flash black your stock firmware before SE update would work
2. You got bb54 but that rom/custom kernel is for bb67. I got it to work on bb58 so it might work for you. Give it a try but make sure you make a backup before you begin.
Im tired of waiting i have an x10a im going to flash gb already, what should i do? Flash stock and wait for root? Or search for that pre-rooted stock ive heard about?
Ive read about the wb rom but i dont want to miss any features of the stock(sorry if i dont know, noob at the whole custom rom stuff?.
But i had my 2.1 rooted and i loved it(specially the ability to control cpu usage)

Root is already out for gb

Oh thats good, so it would be better to flash stock and root, but i just heard(read) so many good things about the wb rom im undecided, what features of stock would i be missing with wb?

If you look at wb Rom it comes with the gingerbread baseband to flash if you already have root on 2.1 you dont need to upgrade to stock gingerbread flash the Rom dont reboot then flash the baseband then reboot gingerbread with root and xrecovery

Im undecided on what to try the pre rooted stock or wb? Damn
Sent from my x10a(still running 2.1 sadly) using XDA app
i'm also x10a originally but there's absolutely nothing wrong in flashing a x10i, looks like baseband 71 works on all regions.
Yay now running gb, feels like a new phone(at least on-screen)
Sent from my x10a"i"(running pre-rooted 2.3.3) thanks doomlord:-D
If you don't want to miss anything, don't use custom ROM. Just root to delete unneed apps and xRecovery to install plugin. It works perfect.
what is the difference between xrecovery 0.3 and the clockworkmod v.5 ??? what should i use to flash any ics or jellybean rom??

Every developer will tell you in the instructions which recovery is needed to install their app or ROM.
ClockWorkMod is newer than xRecovery.

Yep, however many Xperia ROMs still need xRecovery to flash, so the best way is having them both installed

True.
Also know that several kernels (DoomKernel, FeraKernel 3.6) include both recoveries...
