Fix for Odd Problems installing Roms - Streak 5 Android Development

(Mods: Don't know how you want to put this into something but I think reading through Rom threads this will solve lots of poeples problems)
If you are installing Roms and having problems most others are not. FC/ reboots, just odd things not working that others have working.
Try using Dell Factory Reset (on the white Screen) instead of Streakmod or clockwork mod.
I found this while installing gingerstreak I was having problems many were not, till I came across one last option on another thread. Boom All my odd probems were fixed.
*edit*
Rom Developers: as a habbit, for install instructions you should specify to do this. Might save you a ton of time trying to chase down non-existent problems from people

Oh, c'mon...

Look through all the rom threads...why else would some people have 2 identical phones, install the same roms, and one FCs? no service etc?
I had always just been using streakmod factory reset...I installed ginger streak 2.4.4 and my Phone app was FC..my SimCard would detect, I had no service.
It was truely odd. and no not EVERYONE knows to use the Dell Factory reset.

Fac resetting with the top menu has been stated hundreds of times.
There has not been one instance where someone said they used the streakmod one and not got corrected about it.
It's like people asking why superoneclick or gingerbreak doesnt work on the newest roms, they didnt look very hard/at all since those too are covered dozens of times.

To be fair to the OP it doesn't actually state "DELL factory reset" in the Gingerstreak 2.4.4 Release Post
However it does come up numerous times in the rest of the thread......

I wouldn't approve of that, either!
Seriously, if you were able to flash a ROM, and you did it through Clockwork Recovery/ROM Manager, then you are running a modded kernel.
Voodoo seems to be causing some people more trouble than they feel it's worth, so I'd suggest one of jt1134's or Dirrk's non-Voodoo kernels, or Birdman's once it's past the testing stage.
Non-voodoo? I must have missed those. Search is not being my friend. Care to link a guy up? The only kernel threads I can find are their voodoo kernels.

swing by irc #samsung-fascinate on freenode.net. check topic for kernel links
My phone started lagging badly 3 days after the vodoo lagfix...how ironic. When I disabled it, it nearly bricked my phone. Desperate to get my phone up and running, I did a wipe. It killed the phone's internal memory. Had to reflash back to stock and since then my phone has been running really well w/o the lagfix even. Maybe my phone had a bad image like a computer. Not doing anything else to my phone til froyo comes out. I am rooted though.

You could try more cow bell. I heard it's the only cure for some fevers.
I've been semi-bricked three times when I've disabled Voodoo, and I did it right. So I use a non-voodoo kernel now. I'll wait until these bugs are ironed out. Join the irc chat and jt and the other devs commonly post kernel links.
Yup.. Using jt's 1031 test kernel now (novoodoo). Running beautifully.

Technically voodoo hasn't bricked a single phone. User error and then likely a small error in the proccess itself have caused some ugly problems but it can be overcame with a little work

I said semi-bricked. It wouldn't get past the boot screen. It couldn't have been user error two of those times, because I used reboot button to do it.

Thank you for this. Seriously though, I've been running jt's voodoo kernels since their release with only minor problems. I've disabled voodoo and flashed other kernels no less than three times without issue. Granted it does take a while to boot after enabling/disabling voodoo. The first few times I thought I screwed up, but it always boots for me.

I think it's a phone to phone thing. Some people have no problems just turning off voodoo when they flash ROMs and kernels. I have to use adrynalyn's voodoo uninstaller and wipe completely if I want to change ROMs or kernels.
Weird.
Yea when I tried to turn voodoo off it took 4 reboots before it took. No issues after that though.
*EDIT* Posted in wrong thread...my apologies
Used the "reboot button" app to disable Voodoo. It hung on "Samsung" for over an hour after robot women said "operation completed" or whatever. i finally admitted defeat and did a battery pull. Restart resulted in a boot loop. I was able to recover following the "remove Voodoo" thread and flashing the stock Nandroid. From there I flashed jt's v.4 Super Clean ROM with Frost's theme. Having had the stones to try Voodoo again but honestly my phone is running good with just the Super Clean ROM. Having a recent Titanium backup really helped get my phone back in order quickly.
While it was an unpleasant experience it ended well and resulted in a nice clean and fast Fascinate. Best part though is that I'm no longer afraid to flash my phone since I now know I can recover fairly quickly.

...that way lie the dragons...
Yeah, that's pretty much what destroyed any hope I had of *not* being a total ROM-a-holic. I have owned this thing for no more than 2 weeks and have pushed over a dozen different roms/kernels on it.
I cannot even imagine what this poor phone will be going through once we start getting things like Cyanogen's up and running.
(currently using jt's 1031 USCC non-voodoo kernel...at least until I get home.)

[Q] Outdated posts?

I have the Fascinate and I love it.
But for the last few days I have tried many different roots, all work until I want to go into clockwork. What are the correct steps from step one to loading clockwork and load a rom, preferably miui. I had the og droid and was great at booting and loading rom's but the fascinate is throwing me for a loop.
Soo with that said I would like to make a request for anyone willing to do it, please show/tell me how to do this. I have seen posts on new roms, but not rooting updates and etc.

Can't get CM9 To Install!

I had CM9 on my phone, it was Beta 3, I believe. I had to give my phone to Sprint for a replacement, and my new phone is giving me trouble installing CM9...
It is unlocked, and has Jokersax's CWM recovery from his own site on it. I download the latest version of the CWM flashable CM9, clear syste, cache, and data, as well as factory reset, then go to flash it. It takes a matter of seconds to flash, and then gets hung up on the motorola dual core screen when I reboot. I did this about 3 times, and figured I'd try the fastboot version. So I did, same problem.
Not sure what I'm doing wrong, but if someone can help me, that would be awesome!

The usual case of not flashing twice.
You can do the following:
Flash 3.1 twice.
Boot.
Dont wipe and flash 4.5.1 over it.
Flash Gapps

Dont mind, but it always helps to search forums, google and then ask.

I was having the same issue, and it's hard to google something like that because, I mean, what search terms?
"Photon cm9 xda stuck"?

It's really frustrating to find the solution on page 685 of 785. It's frustrating because if you follow the steps on post one, it doesn't work.

Exactly. That's why 90% of the repeated questions are being repeated. I don't understand why there isn't a sticky yet on either the general or Q&A section for the most common issues for this rom that's updated with the issue and fix all on the OP

You don't plug the search terms into google. You get on xda on the computer, open the thread, and choose "search thread" at the top of the thread. It then searches the thread in reverse order so you find the most current results first. I think you have to be logged into the site for the option to appear.

That method is still not that efficient. In some cases. I have informed somebody with xda about it and they said they have future plans of redesigning the entire forum section for much better organization. So they also understand how difficult it is for people to find issues using the search feature

Hulu+ doesn't play

I'm hoping I don't get flamed here but I am having trouble getting Hulu+ to play on my SGH-I777. I contacted Hulu+ support and in their reply they said that they don't support rooted phones so here I am.
When I try to watch anything on the Hulu+ app I get an error message "streaming unavailable [WV44] [91]
I am on stock 4.0.3 which I flashed to using Kies. From there I flashed what I believe is the latest Siyah kernel, 3.5.1. Other than that my phone is stock. I have tried rebooting the phone, deleting cache for the app, force stopping-clearing data and clearing cache, uninstalling the app-rebooting the phone and re-installing the app.
I then tried booting the phone into CWM recovery and wiping the cache, dalvik, and extweaks.
I have a feeling the stuff I did in CWM wouldn't have made a difference but I thought I should try.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I would even be willing to flash the stock kernel to bring my phone back to factory stock if someone knows where I can find it. I've read that doing that can cause serious problems though so and insight on that would be greatly appreciated as well.
Thank you in advance.

Just contact them again and say the problem persists and I got a new phone.
There is a hacked version of the app in the apps and games forum somewhere that fixes this. Post back if you can't find it and I'll pm you a dropbox link. Won't be able to get it uploaded till tomorrow sometime tho.

That's the one I'm using. Just got it two days ago so link should be fine. And I can verify it does work on our device.
Thanks for finding that for me but it doesn't work for me. It just keeps buffering forever. I don't know if I mentioned this already but I'm running stock ICS 4.0.3. It seems like most people in that thread are running 2.3 GB.
I went back to the Play store to look at the reviews and it seems the problem I'm having with the app is the same problem everyone with a GS2 is having.

On that note I should also mention I've only tried it on cm10 (4.1.1). I don't see why it would run on jb and not ics though. So if anything it must be an issue with Sammy firmware. I've also only used it over wifi.
EDIT: There are 3 options to download in the OP of that thread. The one that worked for me was the middle one.
Thanks for putting up the link CallMeAria. I was using it on Tasks AOKP, and my wife uses it on shostock2. Haven't tried it yet on JB...

Cannot connect to camera error

Please help.. Cannot access my dell streak camera app. It says cannot connect to camera. What should I do.. Desperately needs advise.
What rom are you on?
It might be fixable by going to the camera app properties and clearing it's data.
If that doesnt work, you could try the more drastic step of doing a fac reset.
I had faced this issue when I tweaked build.prop for addressing compatibility issues in play store. Edited back to original values to solve the problem.
Not sure this is the case with you?

Stop posting the same kind of issues. I already have a thread same like this one. It makes the moderators delete same concerns. And I believe people here are just pretenders. No one seem to know what the fix for this problem is. They dont know a thing. So its useless asking these guys for help when all they teach you are basic junk troubleshooting steps. Unhelpful!

tbh.. we cant really help you because the phone itself is physically not at us... so.. what we told here is pretty much what we have encounter and solved... also not all problem can be solved here... sometimes the device really need to be sent to the phone specialist.. and not here... so right now the most effective way is to sent the phone to the shop that know streak 5...
The best way is flash stock 407 olleh, flash dsc, flash longhorn, and cm7. If you still cannot connect to camera then you can sure that it hardware issue not the rom. Those above rom has camera working very well.

Thanks Bro. Thats what I am talking about. I've done 407, dsc, longhorn and cm7 and back now to dsc. I think I will then conclude this is a HW problem. Some say it may be a Flex issue.
Once you flash a new rom, it's 100% a HW problem and not software.
I think I know whats wrong with my camera.. When I read my logcat it says there's no preview frame layout. Please help where will I get it?
