[Q] MIUI bootloop! - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I can't take it anymore! Almost every week, I have a marathon of FCs and then when I try to reboot my phone I get a loop. The only way I can fix it is by wiping everything. I don't mind doing that every so often, but every week is just too often. It's so annoying! Does anyone know how to almost permanently fix this!?
I am using MIUI rom and I have a Samsung Galaxy Vibrant. I just updated to 1.11.25 through recovery, but still has a bootloop.
Thank you for your time!
(EDIT: Well I'm going to wipe everything again, because I want to use my phone, hahaha but still, I would love any feedback to help me rarely have to wipe my data again! Thank you!)

are you flashing manually?

Hmmm... You've tried my guide right?

Manually flashing mentions "mounts and storage' its important, follow all op's but I believe Format storage may be your issue.

[Q] Constant Force Closing after a few weeks on diff ROMs?

I saw that there was a similar thread in the Epic 4G forum, but I wanted to make sure before I start trying something that might mess up the phone even further. My wife's vibrant will start having everything force close on her after a few weeks. This has happened on 2 or three different ROMs, and I'm not sure what's causing it. I saw the similar thread where it might be related to "journaling", but we don't change her battery out at all or even reboot the phone that often, so I'm not sure if its the same issue. I've done a reset of her phone a few times, but I'm on a GB ROM so it doesn't go completely back to factory. Should I try to ODIN to stock? Any ideas why this happens? Thanks in advance.
Try fixing permissions in CWM first and see if that helps.

Fix permissions worked for a while, but not anymore. Everything's force closing again. Will the journaling fix help?
Anybody have any ideas? Gonna wipe then install a newer ROM, but I want to make sure this doesn't happen again.
Only titanium the "necessary" apps that you wanna keep your data from. Then uninstall it - often I find that this helps for some odd reason.

Get into recovery:
wipe dalvik
wipe cache
fix permissions
reboot
wait 10 mins reboot into recovery again
fix permissions
reboot
open rom manager [worth its weight in gold!]
fix permissions
reboot
Thats what I did with my cm7.1.0.1 but I also installed eugenes streamline 110411 ver and [knock on wood] havnt had any more issues with fc's.
And yes even if you follow the installs to a "T" some of us still have the FC issue!
Good luck!
3 weeks later and I'm back to square one. I'll try the above, if it doesn't work, i'll have to wipe and reinstall. thanks. What's eugene's streamline?
Id flash to stock, flashing different roms wont help if theres a ghost in the machine, what launcher are you running...touchwiz sucks on my wimpy replacement phone.

MIUI's launcher. I'll probably try flashing to stock soon. :-(
No go. I'll have to look into Eugene's streamlined 110411
ok just for future sake, 3 rule's of flashing,
it's better to reinstall your applications manually then to trust titanium when bouncing between roms with different frameworks, versions, partitions, etc.
always flash from stock unless your updating a weekly rom ie cm7/miui
after flashing power off screen and have a cup of coffee/beer/shower. give the OS time to do all it's background configurations and setup.
now if you follow those 3 rules you "should" have no real issues.

[Q] Flashing new roms makes phone not work

I am coming from a Galaxy Nexus. I have flashed many roms in the past, but when I flash roms on the Note the phone portion seems to stop working. Data works fine, its just when I try to make a call it just sits there for a long time and then the call terminates. Happens every time a flash a new rom. With my old Droid 1 on Verizon you could dial up a number to reactivate the phone, on the Nexus this seems to not be an issue at all. Is there some trick to getting AT&T to reinitialize the cell phone after a new rom flash? I tried pulling the battery for like 5 minutes figuring that would force it to resync or something...
Any one else running into this?
Never heard of this problem. Which roms are you loading, I would suggest asking the dev of the ROM, including all of the steps you use to install it.

To fix the market you need to reboot to clockworkmod and clear the cache. The issue with the kernel is normal, it is the HoloKernel, it just has bad information in the about screen, that's normal too.
To fix the phone issue I usually pull the battery for like 5 minutes and then toggle the network from auto to manual a couple of times and then it seems to finally pick it up. Just seems odd...

Did you flash the ATT fix after flashing RC7? If not, download ATT fix, flash Saurom RC7, wipe cache and d cache, flash ATT fix and then reboot system...
Update.....yesterday i opened the cwm and just cleared the wipe cache and then rebooted the phone and everything came back to normal...error code 492 disappeared and i was able to download all my apps.. I hope it will help somebody. Running saurom rc7. Everything looks fine so far....only data speed needs to go up some more but it could be the area....

What is the problem with the kernel that you need to flash the kernel fix? Is that only if you use holo kernel?

[Q] Can't not find stable rom, freezing reboots.

I have flashed over 10 roms each time I do a NUKE and wipe all caches and data. I have installed roms as per instructions. But for the life of me I can not find one that will go an hour without rebooting or freezing. I have tried many different kernels as well.
Does anyone else have this problem?
Do your phones reboot all the time?
Am I doing something wrong?
Is there something wrong with just my phone?
Is this normal?
Someone advise a stable version. I just don't get it......
Maybe a battery issue.
I really don't understand it. It reboots when I'm sending a text or searching internet or swiping screens. It doesn't matter what i am doing at the time.
The most stable one I have found to work the longest without reboot is Omega Milestones with 7.13 dormaix kernel. Thats it. But I still have problem.
Please help
It could be the battery dying on you.
If it's not the battery then we could be talking hardware.

[Q] Phone wont boot on REVOLT JB 4.3 unless user data/cache is wiped

I would post this in the development thread but I have too little of a post count.
Let me preface by saying I love this FW and wholly enjoy it except for one fatal flaw. If my phone is shut off and I attempt to reboot the Samsung logo appears as usual then nothing more, just a black screen. However if I go in to recovery and wipe user data/factory reset it will boot just fine. I attempted to one by one try to bypass this problem by wiping; cache, dalvic cache, battery stats, and fixing permissions all of which did not work.
Any ideas on how I could use this fw without having to wipe my phone every time I want to switch batteries?

You must be installing an incompatible APP when it boots. . try and figure out which one it is.

FW=Firmware
I want to say I used devhost, however I will try to re-flash with the fw from both sources to try and fix it in that fashion.
An app that isn't compatible...sounds like finding a needle in a haystack, maybe I could just uninstall every app I have currently and try a reboot to see what happens? If that works I could install reinstall my apps two at a time until it will no longer boot?
Dunno if it makes a difference but I have plenty of storage space on my phones internal and external SD card memory. I just have heard that lack of space (sub 300mb) can cause all sorts of funky issues.
Thanks I appreciate it guys, I can't try reflashing for a day because I am at my girlfriend's and her macbook pro will NOT hook up to either of our Samsung phones no matter how much we play around with settings and drivers....ugh think different my butt.

knew it was probably something simple.
just used to people saying ROM
even the developer states he flashes his ROM twice (at least) cause he can get 2 different reactions on his phone.

Nexus 9 freezing constantly after Nougat update

Hey, guys. Searched around this forum for this topic but didn't see anything, apologize if it's a duplicate.
Basically my tablet has been freezing constantly since the nougat update. It wasn't happening all that often to begin with but over time it turned into something like once a day to a few times a day. It doesn't follow any usage patterns as far as I can tell (i.e. I use chrome mostly but if I'm on something like one of the regular google apps it might still happen). Once it freezes I have to force shutdown via power button. Every now and then it will freeze and restart itself without my having to force shutdown.
It's stock ROM, with virtually stock apps (dropbox is the only downloaded app). I read about some solutions which I've already tried, and so I wiped the cache, did a factory reset, have about 5gb free storage space, and the issues are still the same.
Any suggestions? Thanks

YAY!!! someone else!
Can you try something for me. Flash this kernel FIRE-ICE N K10.5.3 (K10.5.4 seems to be having problems ATM)
i think your problem will be fixed.... please let me know! :highfive:
Hi, thanks for replying. I absolutely can do that but I literally have no experience flashing kernels. I assume it's same as flashing a rom but If you could provide some instructions for me I'd appreciate that. It's been a long time since I've even done that and I'd want to make sure I don't screw anything up.

Yes TWRP
Question did you unlock your bootloader?
honestly i don't remember. some time ago my n9 got stuck in some weird bootloop. i had to run the RUU (i think that's what it was) to restore everything back to completely normal. so if me having to do that meant i unlocked the bootloader then yes i did. if not, then i wouldn't have done it.
