Boot into recovery mode - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi I'm trying to root my friend's galaxy s 2. It is the sprint 4g version. How do you reboot into recovery? It is different than my Verizon fascinate... thanks

First step would be to post in the right section, the sprint sgs2 is totally different than the i9100. Im sure they have many kernels that can root your phone there.

[Q] Why is it showing yellow triangle

I bought a samsung galaxy s2 today and rooted it with "odin" and "s2 root".
I installed the insecure.tar rooted it and installed original.tar
Then I installed ClockworkMod Recovery 4.0.1.4 and Rom Manager from the marketplace, I rebooted into recovery mode and tried out clockworkmod and it worked fine but whenever I reboot my sgs2 it shows me this yellow triangle again.
Did I do something wrong? Is my phone "bricked"?
Your phone is not bricked. It is not bricked if you can boot into download, it certainly isn't bricked if it boots normally. I like to be more helpful with noobs, and would normally explain the triangle, but I'm in a bad mood, so search yourself.

the yellow triangle just warns you that your ROM is not from sammy.
Just means that you aren't running an official kernel/rom. Nothing to worry about. To get rid of it either flash back to an official rom and kernel using Odin or use a USB jig and an old bootloader.
If you have no jig use cf's method: install the correct cf kernel, then flash the original kernel back, then extract the zImage from your cf kernel put it on your sd card, go into cwm manager and flash the extracted cf zImage as a kernel and your triangle will be gone. There are more detailed instructions on his thread.

Not the best 1st post
Welcome.
It's alway good to search before asking questions. The sgs2 has been discussed on xda for a fair while now so I reckon just about anything you would want to know will already be posted somewhere.
Don't know if you have already found chainfires cfroot thread it's the easiest way to root your phone and all the info you need is in the 1st few posts.

Hi, its incredible how helpful some people are...
Anyways, if your planning on having a custom rom on the GS2 learn to love that yellow triangle. Sadly thats the way samsung devices are design to annoy users of custom roms.

If you are one ICS, ChainFire made an app to remove the triangle and reset the flash counter.

Dont think anyone is trying to be unhelpful. People understand more when they have answered the same question many times or had to read it over and over again.
OP appears to be intelligent, rooted and flashed cm, all without asking so I'm guessing they were just having a moment.
BTW reading what has been written about that new triangle removing app before using it is vital unless you're happy to brick your device if you get it wrong or Samsung change something.
Anyway happy flashing.

ICS question

I have a unlocked galaxy note i717 gingerbread 207. Orginally it was locked to telus but now im using it on the rogers network. So how would I get ICS? Do I have to wait for the telus release or rogers? I also heard it better to use a custom ics rom. So when I unroot my phone what is the best ics rom out there at the moment?
Why are you unrooting? As to which rom is best is in the eye of the beholder

I thought you need to unroot to use custom roms?

U got it backwards. I think u just got ur words mixed up. Rooting gives you super user contral and flashing cwm allows u to flash custom roms. Read the general stickies for more information.

This helped me a TON.
I've already rooted my phone. But now I'm stuck in the next step : Install "Clockworkmod recovery" because it doesn't works with Gingerbread.207 version. I didn't find an answer to this problem and it seems that installing "Clockworkmod recovery" is an important step before installing a new ROM. I just want to inform you about it.
It's never easy for canadian version of mobile phones to use the same rooting and flashing tools than worldwide phones. We really have less choice for custom ROM and the few really good ROM are made for US users. Well, if I find something, I'll let you know.

Your problem is you flashed files for the wrong phone. These are the forums for the samsung galaxy s vibrant (t959). You need the forums for the samsung galaxy s 4g (t959v). They are two totally different phones and are not compatible.

completely stock

hi all I got my note from someone and notice it has a custom recovery but its not rooted...so can I flash this back to completely stock without a computer? since it his not cwm recoverver but a different one.
Sent From My Rockin Samsung Galaxy Note
If you want to go back to stock and have root it can be done, but you will need CWM or TWRP...what do you have installed. You say you have a custom recovery but you are not rooted.... you dont need to be rooted to put CWM or TWRP on, is it you do not have a computer at all...What ROM is on there now?
I would find a computer it would be your best bet, but below are the tools for the GNote for these forums.

its the twrp recovery that's installed

right I have no computer or a way to use one

Download a kernel from the original dev section i.e. dagr8's kernel and flash it from your recovery. That should restore your root privileges. Sounds like he just unrooted the phone on a custom ROM for some bizarre reason.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
it actually has the stock ics
Sent From My Rockin Samsung Galaxy Note
Doesn't matter. If recovery is installed you don't really have a problem. Just follow my instructions and you should have root in 5 minutes.

so I can flash roms and everything the way it is?
Sent From My Rockin Samsung Galaxy Note
Yes, flash away. Read every First Post a couple of times for the installation instructions.

Help transferring from stock to rooted phone?

I have a completely stock AT&T S3 and am wanting to transfer all settings to a rooted and unlocked AT&T S3. I want to also get the latest Android for both phones and be able to unlock and root the stock phone after transferring everything.
Can anybody walk me through the steps for the above procedure?
I'm somewhat familiar with TWRP, less ADB and ODIN.
Thanks in advance for any help, I appreciate it.
