Why can't we port ICS apps? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I LOVE how the new Youtube app looks, why are we not able to port it? Is it connected with the framework or something?
Just curious about it.

easy install ICS

Porting is not possible because most of the apps have ICS dependency you can find the current ICS build for the vibrant in the development thread. There are two, but I believe the passion build is more stable then the I900 port

[Q] honeycomb

could they port honeycomb off the xoom? how close are they to make a stable honeycomb ROM?
Theres a million threads on honeycomb. Do a search. They are close on finishing a kernel for honeycomb
The problem is not the rom, there's already a bunch of ported roms from other tablets, but they are not stable because it isn't using the right kernel that is needed for the g-tab. They have to build the kernel from the begining for the g tablet because viewsonic doesn't want to help us.

How do ROMs work? (n00b question, I know)

Ok...I am really REALLY new to all of this. IF you put a custom Honeycomb ROM (CM7 is Honeycomb right?) onto a tablet, will it then run apps that are designed for Honeycomb tablets?

Cm7 is 2.3.7 gingerbread and apps working anyway.
Most.

The ROM is the same android OS but customized regardless of the android version (honeycomb, gingerbread, etc).
Different ROMs could have the same Android version. Major ROMs like CM are updated by their Developers when a new android OS is available.
Apps work mostly on any ROM, unless a certain app doesn't work on a certain Android OS version.
I hope I could answer your question.

Sort of....I guess I should break it down a little. There is a Words With Friends App that is made specifically for Honeycomb and because of that I can't even put it on my tablet which runs Froyo (parsing error). If I install a custom ROM or ported ROM like CM9, will it allow me to be able to install it?
CM9 is Ice Cream Sandwich I believe... It might run your app.
Go to the app page on the market and see if anyone is complaining about it not working with ICS... If not, you're good to go.
CM8 was supposed to be Honeycomb, but didn't happen because Google didn't release the source code for Honeycomb. If you find a Honeycomb ROM specific for your tablet, then that answers your question. Otherwise you might have to wait till an ICS ROM is developed for your tablet.

[Q] Please Port MIUI ICS apks to CM9 ICS(Non-MIUI framework)

I really like the new MIUI ICS stock apks, but i dont like the UI as much as the CM9 ICS which I think is more functional, and i dont like the stock apks on the CM9 ICS. Is there any way to port the MIUI apks to CM9? Are there any dev's who can do this? Or are there any tutorial on how to do this?
I've seen a ton of threads with attachments of ported MIUI apks, but they're generally really old or not real MIUI apks.
I have attached the apk files files that i would like to port.

JoyOS Port?

I recently found out about the Android flavor named JoyOS. I am always wanting to try out new themes or looks when it comes to Android, and I am never satisfied for some reason. Does anybody have the will to make a port for this Rom?

Gingerbread for One V

Hey Guys
I wanted to know as a noob that my HTC One V came with Android 4.0.4 and i want to port 2.3 on it is it possible??? and if yes plz give a link to the tutorial
Thankz
Ofcourse it's possible!
But not for a guy who thinks porting an older Android version then shipped with the device...
You should build from source for newer versions too. Those should be easier for you.

i absolutely agree with u dude but i am quite fond of sense 3.0 and it cannot be ported with ics i guess
Oh you want 2.3 with Sense?!
No, that would be near impossible...

y???
Well you can't build Sense from source.
So the only possible solution would be a binary port, wich ALWAYS causes bugs.
Also, you would be forced to port it from an older device (so with older binaries) because Sense 3.0 is now history.
Sorry, but I wouldn't do something like this. The easiest thing would be to port just the Sense 3.0 theme.
