Gingerbread for One V - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey Guys
I wanted to know as a noob that my HTC One V came with Android 4.0.4 and i want to port 2.3 on it is it possible??? and if yes plz give a link to the tutorial
Thankz

Ofcourse it's possible!
But not for a guy who thinks porting an older Android version then shipped with the device...
You should build from source for newer versions too. Those should be easier for you.

i absolutely agree with u dude but i am quite fond of sense 3.0 and it cannot be ported with ics i guess

Oh you want 2.3 with Sense?!
No, that would be near impossible...

y???

Well you can't build Sense from source.
So the only possible solution would be a binary port, wich ALWAYS causes bugs.
Also, you would be forced to port it from an older device (so with older binaries) because Sense 3.0 is now history.
Sorry, but I wouldn't do something like this. The easiest thing would be to port just the Sense 3.0 theme.

How do ROMs work? (n00b question, I know)

Ok...I am really REALLY new to all of this. IF you put a custom Honeycomb ROM (CM7 is Honeycomb right?) onto a tablet, will it then run apps that are designed for Honeycomb tablets?

Cm7 is 2.3.7 gingerbread and apps working anyway.
Most.

The ROM is the same android OS but customized regardless of the android version (honeycomb, gingerbread, etc).
Different ROMs could have the same Android version. Major ROMs like CM are updated by their Developers when a new android OS is available.
Apps work mostly on any ROM, unless a certain app doesn't work on a certain Android OS version.
I hope I could answer your question.

Sort of....I guess I should break it down a little. There is a Words With Friends App that is made specifically for Honeycomb and because of that I can't even put it on my tablet which runs Froyo (parsing error). If I install a custom ROM or ported ROM like CM9, will it allow me to be able to install it?
CM9 is Ice Cream Sandwich I believe... It might run your app.
Go to the app page on the market and see if anyone is complaining about it not working with ICS... If not, you're good to go.
CM8 was supposed to be Honeycomb, but didn't happen because Google didn't release the source code for Honeycomb. If you find a Honeycomb ROM specific for your tablet, then that answers your question. Otherwise you might have to wait till an ICS ROM is developed for your tablet.

Vanilla ICS version (nexus version) for SGS3?

I'm looking for the nexus vanilla version of ICS or possibly upcoming JB for my SGS3..
I have never rooted or loaded a different ROM or anything, so I'm brand new to this. I had a Nexus S before and I really like the Vanilla ICS (or JB).
Is it possible to get on the SGS3?
Thanks for all help and tips!
Development section AOSP roms .

[Q] google sky works...photosphere doesnt

any ideas???both use a gyroscope right?
From all I have read, all ROMs running jellybean are still having difficulty with the stock 4.1.1 camera. Until the time comes that the base CyanogenMod or AOKP builds are fixed up there is really no way to get the camera up and running from 4.1.1 much less 4.2. I may be mistaken, but it is all over all the jellybean threads I have read, as well as the ROMs I have installed.
Now this may change with the completion of the kexec ROM source. Kexec is just a fancy name for bypassing the boot loader and installing a custom kernel. Just FYI, if you didn't know what that was already.
Hope this help.
P.S. I think I remember seeing that Max from High on Android had reviewed a ROM called eclipse that may have had the photosphere camera working. Seems like it was an ICS ROM though...

What you've seen on shendu is number of downloads (128). The ROM has 452.54 Mb, and the second one with sense 5 on ICS 4.0.4, has 437 Mb.
Anyway, until a compatible kernel will be made, no chance for JellyBean. Actual kernel only support ICS, and HTC doesn't have any plans to update it. They already ceased production for this model. To build a new kernel takes time, and it needs very good knowleges of what a kernel is and does. It can't be made by anyone.
One of our friends from this forum is already working on a new kernel. We have to wait for him to finish his work.

It's not possible. JB kernel needed, atleast 4.1.1 and 4+ sense and then can be ported.

If your phone is Desire V (T328W), here you have a ROM with sense 5 appearance and with sense 5 weather. I removed live wallpapers because of draining battery, but if you download the source ROM indicated in that post, you can extract Livewallpapers apps from /system/app of the downloaded ROM and copy to your phone /system/app.

Uncompatible optimus 2x?

Hello
I recently recieved my themer beta code.
But I have been unable to use it since themer does not seem to be available for my phone (the LG optimus 2x P990.)
I am using the Jelly Cream rom with kowalski kernel.
I have tried installing themer using an apk but then I get a parsing error.

I think your ROM is based off of 4.1 right? (That ROM thread didn't really say anything about what version of Jelly Bean it was based off of). A parsing error can be caused by attempting to install an app made for a newer android version. Not sure about this, but there might be different versions of the themer app for the different jelly bean versions, and you might have one for 4.3 or 4.2 which won't work on 4.1. I don't have an android device with 4.1 (Only 4.0 and 4.3), so I can't really help you there but maybe someone else can.
