Is there way to create a shortcut on my home screen to turn USB tethering on automatically?
Thanks
Chris
Just found Widgetsoid......
2 minutes later I have exactly what I need on my phone, awesome!
Is it just me, or has HTC also actually screwed up the wi-fi toggling/notifications in a second way with Sense 4.0 on this new Incredible?
Besides the constant wi-fi notification which plenty of people have already noted and complained about on both the Inc4g and the S3, there's also this...
It seems like connecting to a wi-fi network actually takes a couple extra steps now. In the past, if I was at either of my normal wi-fi spots at home or work, I could just hit the wi-fi widget from my homescreen and it would automatically connect to whichever of the two was available without me ever needing to leave my homescreen.
But now, when I hit my homescreen widget, I am taken to the wi-fi screen where I then have to hit a second toggle (the off/on button at the top), then I have to hit the back or home button to get back to the homescreen. So that's three presses to accomplish what used to take one. Similarly, it takes three presses instead of one to turn it off and get back to the homescreen.
Why did they go and ruin something simple and helpful like the wi-fi widget??
Or am I just missing something obvious??
-Sam
You haven't missed a thing. Obviously they had engineers working on it that had no real world experience using the phones. This happens all too often. I'm using the Mod by Nitsuj for the settings tab, life is soo much easier now. Eliminates worthless software programming.
I think the thing that pisses me off the most these days is the quality of the product that is going out the door from Big Red. They have the attitude of most companies these days..."We don't need to listen to the customer, they need to listen to us."

Did a bit of searching, but couldn't find what you are referring to (Nitsuj's mod).

Ahh... I guess I conflated this thread with the other one where I was complaining about HTCDev.com not unlocking my phone. (was assuming he would not be suggesting flashing a ROM to someone with an unrooted phone...)
Also, on the subject --
I noticed that the wi-fi toggles on both of HTC's 4x1 tile dashboards widgets ("data bashboard" and "power dashboard") function in the same annoying fashion as the individual 1x1 tile wi-fi widget.
However, the wi-fi toggle on the old standard Android 4x1 tile Power control widget does work seamlessly. But that's still annoying just because I don't feel like sticking the 4x1 widget on my main homescreen.

That is a pretty cool app, but it doesn't really solve my specific issue with HTC's new wi-fi widget/toggle.
As far as I can tell, it still takes three motions to turn wi-fi on or off with that notification tool. (one swipe to bring down the notification screen, one touch to hit the wi-fi icon, and then one more action to get back to the homescreen)
I really want one touch wi-fi toggling from my homescreen.

There are two ways:
1. Through your home screen or launcher:
- use another launcher apart from trebuchet. I recommend Apex or Nova.
- long click and select shortcuts, then select settings.
- pick tethering and portable hotspot.
- You can change the icon to whatever you want.
***Anytime you click on this shortcut, it will take you tethering option and you just have to select usb tethering.
2. Using app.
-Install power widget or widgetdroid from market.
Both are free.
- add usb tethering shortcut ads widget
- with any of these apps, you can even stick your shortcut on the notification bar.
Good luck

I am new to data plans and Android so please forgive me. I am trying to find away if possible to turn my data on and off without going through settings then data usage.
Id like to add it to the horizontal scrollbar at the top when you are on the "drop down" page where it has wi-fi, bluetooth gps all of these simple tap to turn on and off. My GF's infuse has a cool feature that when you hold down the power button it will give you a few options plane mode turn off computer and a few others one of them is to turn off data. if these are not possible I wouldn't mind a shortcut to ti on the home page. I use this option very frequently since I'm still getting the hang of having a data plan im very afraid of going over.
Try Data Easy Pro. It has a widget that lets you switch data or wifi on or off and can even schedule "on line" time.
Otherwise try Data Widget.
I have the international Note 2 and have the data toggle in the notification menu and on the powder menu. ATT must have had them removed if you don't see them.
Hi, I've got the weirdest problem. When i am on the homescreen and click on the wifi connect toggle in the dropdown menu, nothing will happen, however, when I long press on the same toggle and go to the wifi settings, it will almost instantly connect. This doesn't change depending on where I am. Home, work, puplic, all the same. The device is on 6.0.1, no-root, with 3.10.9-9439819 kernel. Any help will be hugely appreciated.
