AOSP - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

Is CM7 the closest to AOSP that the SGS2 can get?

That's probably a safe bet. All the other ROMs here (excluding miui) are based on a Samsung build for this phone or the i9100.
For all its likeness to the Nexus S, the captivate never saw a AOSP ROM.
There is a ICS port coming along that is not Samsung built, but its far from usable, and may just be the prelude to CM9.

Right now yes. However once you have cm you can usually get aosp.

[Q] Will the i717 ever get an AOSP/AOKP ROM?

Hello All,
I'm new to this thread as I just came over from the N7000 series of the Note because i just had to have LTE speeds and I must say I miss having the AOSP based ROMs that the N7000 had and was wondering if we'll ever see this for our i717 Notes?

Build it.
pretty sure cyanogenmod is working on CM9 for the note...
Most likely as soon as Samsung releases ICS source code which likely wont be released probably until ICS becomes official.
Its possible the CM team is building based off code from the N7k for the i717 but the phones are different from each other.
There are tons of threads with this very same question that have been started in this thread, I have explained in great detail (as have others) that explain what the problem(s) are, Id suggest starting there.

[Q] New ROM Requirements

Greetings,
I don't have the Galaxy Note (yet), but before I pick one up, I've got a few questions about the available ROMS.
1. Which ROM floating around out there is closest to Stock ICS? (I'd be coming from a Galaxy Nexus.)
2. Are there any ROMS that get rid of all the Samsung Custom Apps? Not just TouchWiz, I'll get rid of that with ADWLauncher, but all the customizations that Samsung has done to Messenger, Calendar, etc.
I'm eager to get the Note, but I want to make sure it's easily "De-Samsung-ified" first.
Thanks!

Thanks, That does look good, but I'm a bit apprehensive when I see Beta in the title. Is this what you're using? Can you post screenshots of the Messenging and Calendar apps? The Samsung customizations of those really bother me. I know it's nitpicking, I'm a bit anal with my devices...
It comes shipped with the Samsung apps, there is an aosp app ad on within the roms ota feature.
There isn't a true aosp ROM for the note... Yet.
Thanks @studacris @briand.mooreg for the suggestion. Are there any others, I'm looking for a stable, non-beta ROM to use at first, but once I get confortable with the device, I'll play around with it more.
It's only a beta by name alone. because we, the collective, have much more in store for it.
It's stable as a table.
Once we get official ICS, devs are gonna go ALL out on the ROMs.
-Once you go NOTE, you'd say 4 inches a Joke
I think until we get source for ICS, any ROM you see available will claim to be an Alpha or a Beta (at developer's decision).
The reality of the situation is that all of the i717 ICS ROMS are based on a leaked ICS build, not something official.

When the source comes out, will it be posted online like Google posts the images for the Nexus devices? I ask because I'm just looking for as Pure an ICS experience as I can get.
I don't even have the Note yet, but I flashed my Galaxy Nexus to AOSP ICS tonight and I'm a bit eager to dive into Android experimenting and maybe eventually cooking up a ROM myself.
Thanks.
try out dagr8s rom its pretty awesome def with the tablet mod
Dude thuer all beta or alpha we have no source codes to make a rc ics rom yet but its coming don't worry and most ics roms out right now are very stable and very nice don't be afraid lol go buy a note and Ice it out

The collective roms

I'm probably an idiot for not being able to find this, but what is the difference in stratosphere and mesosphere. I assumed one was an earlier build than the other, but I've seen a few posts that made me think that is not the case.

Mesosphere is the newest update

Stratosphere is based on a Samsung touch wiz ics leak.
Mesosphere is based off of cm9, which is aosp, not touch wiz, a close to pure Android, the way google made it.

[Discussion] Jelly Bean updates by Samsung (Note included)

Jelly Bean updates by Samsung for SGSII, SGSIII, Note and Note II
Thoughts?
Copied from http://www.sammobile.com/2012/08/06/jelly-bean-updates-by-samsung-for-sgsii-sgsiii-note-and-note-ii/
This weekend we tweeted about Android 4.1 updates for the Galaxy S II, Galaxy S III, Galaxy Note and Galaxy Note II. Let us explain what Samsung will do and how far they are at the moment.
Galaxy S III The test firmwares for the Galaxy S III are passed and they are working on a public version of the first Jelly Bean updates for the Galaxy S III. The wait is on the public version and the agreement of Google.
Galaxy S II Samsung is still testing Android 4.1 for the Galaxy S II. The first tests are looking fine. Because the Galaxy S II is still selling very well and Samsung will update the Galaxy S II to Android 4.1. If Samsung decides at the last moment not to update the Galaxy S II, all Galaxy S II owners will get a value pack update. But so far there is no reason not to update the Galaxy S II to Android 4.1.
Galaxy Note. For the Galaxy Note it is the same story as for the Galaxy S II. Tests are fine but there is still no official words by Samsung.
Galaxy Note II. The Samsung Galaxy Note II would be showed at IFA 2012. The test software is currently based on Android 4.0. Our insider isn’t sure if Samsung will introduce the Galaxy Note II with Android 4.0 or Android 4.1. If Samsung decides to use Android 4.0 at launch, an update to the Galaxy Note will be available a couple of months after.
couldnt care less what Samsung does as far as 4.1; our dev's are just about there with far superior products right now, so waiting to see what Samsung does is a non issue for the XDA power users...

I love how everyone thinks that it doesn't matter to have an official Rom because it does. An official JB Rom means better performance and kernels.

have you installed/tried any of the JB roms that our dev's have released?
performance is outstanding; just little quirks, like camcorder and Youtube, but otherwise, they BLOW AWAY any of the Samsung roms..
Yes but things like the video glitches are because they lack the drivers from Samsung. The devs do great work of course but it's not like Samsung contributes nothing of use.

And not everyone loves roms build off aosp pulled together from other phones releases. I've tried the jellybean roms thus far and they are nice but would be better if they were 100% working. I use camera and YouTube daily. (Boring job) So an official release is better than an early half working rom to me. Some people like the stock look and feel. I myself and happy to hear we will get jellybean love.

For those that find additional functionality out of the S Pen, this would be a bummer. Touchwiz Framework is currently the only way to get the best S Pen apps working on android: S Note, S Memo, the screenshot editor, and the best widgets on android.
The custom work from our devs is superior, but only in different areas. FJmod performs as well as CM9 and CM10 does in most situations, and there are niche areas where they each have issues or strengths (feature support and 3d is inconsistent on CM9, something I hope improves, and functionality and freedom is a bit more nuanced in the stock based ROMs).

agreed; when all that happens, it will make a great phone even better...But, with Samsungs track record as far as releasing software updates on a timely basis, we shouldn't hold out breath for them to release any official JB stuff anytime soon..

There are other superior alternatives to s-memo that work in xm9 and aokp, memo beta is a good example. I haven't looked for alternatives to the others yet.

Most people want JB for project butter which we probably won't ever have untill Samsung releases JB for it.
So yeah its quite important.

I thought butter was part of the coding for JB.

GS2 or GS3 ported rom

Curious if anyone has ported GS2 or GS3 based roms to the Fascinate? I've become bored with CM10/JB and am looking for something new and flashy.
Ok I admit it, I saw a GS3 and all the cool eye candy and was jealous.
Well considering the GS2 and GS3 are still based on ICS, the JB roms we have are actually newer and better. I think you probably just saw a few gimmicky things that touchwiz can do, but since touchwiz is owned by Samsung you won't really be seeing it ported over to custom roms. There are a few good alternative roms floating around that are different than the standard CM10, namely Paranoidandroid, Blackbean, MUIU etc. Just check the developers section. I'm on the new AOKP myself and loving it
I can go ahead and tell you black bean is stable as **** and paranoid droid is so different and creative and miui is based on touchwiz and goats all the eye candy.you'll ever need hope that helped
