XT910 and XT912? - Motorola Droid RAZR

So XT912 is for VZW Razr USA CDMA and XT910 is for GSM models? We cannot flash anything designed for either model?

So far, they are just different enough that trying to load anything not designed specifically for your model will likely brick it. Somehow everything that has come out has been for the XT910 so far.

Yeah, I just want to verify this info. I remember similar issues with the G1 vs Magic and their specific flashables.
So far, I just have my Razr rooted.

[Q] Questions regarding Moto Razr Maxx for Alltel

Hello all, I am currently looking to get the Motorola Razr Maxx in the next few days from Alltel. However, before I do, there are several questions I would like answered. Any help would be appreciated
Now then, starting off.
1. Is there a root option for the Razr Maxx for Alltel? It supposedly will be running ICS stock, but I want to make sure I don't use some sort of root method that is for a Verizon Maxx and cause issues on my phone. If there is a root option, which is best? I've done recovery flashes and whatnot in the past to root my Alltel 2.3.6 X2, but the simpler the better for me.
2.Bluetooth input, is it fixed? One thing I do a lot of on my Motorola Milestone X2 is emulation. I have a PSX, N64, GBA, GBC, etc etc. However, one HUGE setback with my Moto X2 is that it does not handle bluetooth input properly. My previous phone could handle it in emulation just fine, but there is a problem with the X2, supposedly. The X2 can detect input from bluetooth devices (and it shows the input in said applications used to sync the device), HOWEVER, the input cannot interact with other applications on the X2, making it impossible to play emulators with bluetooth devices. Does the issue persist with the Razr Maxx, or can I finally hook up a Wii remote to my Razr Maxx, mirror it to my TV, and sit back and enjoy the classics?
3. Infrastructure tethering - I do not have an existing ISP because all ISPs I can get are so terrible, wireless dial-up with interference would be more reliable. That being said, I use my phone for all of my internet needs. PC gaming, downloads, posting on forums like this, etc etc. I have no bandwidth caps or throttles, so I am truly unlimited. However, a setback with my Moto X2 is that even though I am rooted for wireless such as Wifi Tether or Barnacle, I can only tether in ad-hoc and not infrastructure. Tablets and other devices cannot connect to ad-hoc and only infrastructure, but supposedly my phone does not support this. Does the Razr Maxx have sufficient hardware to broadcast as a infrastucture hotpost?
4. Locked Bootloader and Custom ROMs? I am aware that my Moto X2 has a locked bootloader, supposedly meaning it is unable to have custom ROMs flashed to it. Is this the case with the Razr Maxx? And if so, are there methods to unlock the bootloader on the Maxx, unlike the X2? And, assuming I can flash, what kind of ROMs could I use and what would be recommended per my general uses of the phone (as listed above)? I have never flashed a custom ROM and know little of it. Would I need one specific to my carrier (Alltel), or does it just need to be the right technology (Alltel is CDMA)?
As an added note, while not phone specific, are there any alarming pitfalls to a custom ROM? Bugged SMS, MMS, etc?

I used this method and it worked just fine. Only catch was I had to install SuperSU from the Play Store afterwards, as the automatic installation failed for some reason. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342567

I don't know about this, as I've never used my phones for this purpose.

I never had trouble running the WiFi Hotspot feature on my Milestone X, X2, or now Razr Maxx in infrastructure mode. They all have worked well for this. Last device I had to use Ad-Hoc on was my OG Milestone because the hardware was physically unable to support infrastructure mode.

The beauty of the Maxx is that you can use SafeStrap to setup multi-boot. You can actually load custom roms in addition to your stock rom and choose among them at boot! No more having to cross your fingers and hope the custom rom you are flashing over your system will work.
SafeStrap Info: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1391900
A big downside for us Alltel users so far is it seems as though all of the custom roms out there are preoccupied with needing a SIM card to do anything. So far this is rendering them useless for phone use for us Alltel users, as we do not use SIM cards in our Razrs. I am actively trying to figure out how to overcome this as time allows. So far, I have figured out copying the build.prop from our stock rom and using it to replace the one in the Eclipse rom allows me to bypass the SIM card nag in initial setup, but it still will not allow use of the phone dialer. I'll post an update if I discover a fix for this. If anyone else knows of a fix please share. We would be very appreciative!
Fortunately the stock rom on this phone is actually pretty decent, especially compared to those on previous Motorolas like the X2.
As an added note, while not phone specific, are there any alarming pitfalls to a custom ROM? Bugged SMS, MMS, etc?

The above issue dealing with a SIM card is the biggest problem. By far the easiest workaround I have used in the past to get around MMS problems was to use GoSMS as my default text/mms application. It allows you to set your own mms settings regardless of what is preset in the rom and has never given me problems. 3g data works fine on custom roms so far in my testing.
I am happy to report that Bluetooth input has been fixed in the Ice Cream Sandwich update

Sim card requirement?
Are you trying to use GSM ROMs instead of CDMA?
Seems like there should be an easy work around for Verizon roms. Any one?
Right now there are some issues with BT, camera and other liuttle bugs on every JB ROMs. But seems like they will be fixed soon. You can use CM9, MIUI or the stock based ones instead.
About the other questions. I don't know.

CDMA roms have this problem as well. Since all the cdma roms are based on the Verizon razr they always look for the 4g lte sim card. Alltel is 3g only and does not use sim cards so that's where the issues start. Hopefully someone can figure out a way to force the razr into 3g mode where it doesn't look for a sim card.

Hello guys
I'm going to buy Alltel Razr Maxx, and i guess this is the right thread to ask some questions.
At first, the most important: does it work in 3G/GSM mode with a sim card? I'm from Europe and I'm a GSM network user.
What are the general differences b/w XT912 (Verizon) and XT908 (Alltel)? I can't find detailed specs of xt908 anywhere.
Thanks!

Testing Razr Maxx and need advice

My everyday phone is a Verizon Galaxy S3 that is suffering from 4G problems since an OTA update in March. I have tried everything to restore its former glory including flashing back to ICS and installing every update and firmware from beginning to end. I can get 4G coverage but no longer get it at home or work where it really matters.
So I got my hands on a used Razr Maxx to use as a comparison as it is known for good reception. Much to my surprise the Razr acts pretty much identical to my S3 as far as 4G goes.
After some reading I have seen some other Razr users complain about signal degradation since Jelly Bean... so I want to flash back to an older software to test again, I am currently on whatever the latest OTA software is.
I am a complete Razr nOOb so any advice and input is appreciated.I would prefer a stock Rom. I also need rooting directions and such.. I didn't notice any pre-rooted stock roms.
Thanks

Razr has a locked bootloader and you cannot downgrade once you update it. So if you're on JB, you cannot go back to ICS.

[q] Can i switch from JB.98.72.16.EN.US.Verizon tu stock JB.EU

HI guys (and girl)
i'm actually not so noob(ish). but this phone gets me stuck and i have no idea where to start.
i had a galaxy s, a defy, a milestone and some Iphones, and this XT912 (which is great). i've managed to change ROMS with ease, figured the stuff out and so on.
but the XT912 got me stuck. this is the question:
can i have a stock EU rom on it? cause now i have the verizon US JB 98.72.16.EN.US
i've seen the posts, i read the threads but i don't quite get it.
i need some help.. please
I'm form Europe and i was wondering if maybe with some stock EU ROM this phone could perform better. and i also have some problems not being able to receive calls although i never had a problem making a call. (sometimes says i'm out of coverage)
thanks folks!
If you look in the development thread Dtrail has a KEXEC kernel that will allow the flashing of other regions stock ROMS.

CM11 (Kitkat 4.4) for XT912 CMDA?

I'm sorry to be asking this, but after wading through several threads and searches I'm more confused than ever, lol.
I have an original Android Razr Maxx (XT912) from Verizon USA... I assume that means it's CDMA... although when I look in "preferred network mode" I see the following options:
-Global **currently selected**
-LTE / CDMA
-GSM / UMTS
So... what does that mean?
Anyway...
Is there a fully working Kitkat update for my phone?... I know it's not official, but I see some people running 4.4+ on the XT912, but I also see what appears to be several different versions and some claiming many issues.
So... again I ask... is there a fully working kitkat for XT912?

[Q] Looking for original firmware for Rogers RAZR XT910

Good day,
Looking for original firmware for rogers for xt910. Checked the thread with all the firmwares, but the link is no longer active. I also can't find the 910 firmware on their page at all, all of it for verizon and primarily for later versions of RAZR.
So, I guess nobody has a copy? Or am I missing something here?
I know xt910 is an old model but my gf has it and doesn't feel like getting a new phone yet. However, the battery life getting pretty bad, so I though of rooting it and using custom rom like cm to possibly lower the consumption
