Recently I've noticed some strange behaviour regarding my contacts.
first I save a contact by selecting new contact in the contacts menu.
Then I chose an account under which I want to create the contact.
I never chose phone-only and always sync to the same account, lets call this account 1.
After I save the contact details the contact does not appear in my contact list.
This contact will neither appear in the contacts of account 1 when I log into Google and look at my contacts.
When I search a certain contact name in my phone it says "Contact not found" below which it gives me the option to "Search all contacts".
If I press this option it will show me all the contact information just like I stored it.
I tried searching in other accounts beside account 1 that I could choose when storing the contact but that yielded no results either.
My questions are:
1 Where the **** does my phone store these contacts?? :S
2 Why can't I see them when I log onto Google?
3 How can I get them to display normally under contacts? (and in my Google account contacts)
Additional information:
I run a CM7 NAND-ROM (I think by HyperDroid) on a 512MB version of the HTC LEO
I mainly connect to the internet through Wi-Fi because I'm currently using a pre-paid subscription.
Anyone have any suggestions?

I have trouble getting new contacts that I add to my phone to sync with my Google account. I've lost quite a few new numbers that I've put into my phone, not knowing that it hasn't synced to my Google account, I flash a new ROM and restore contacts from my account only to find out that I'm missing that person's number . I have "Sync Contacts" checked in my Google account settings and I make sure the contact is assigned to a group. Even with a force sync within the contacts app and my google account settings doesn't bring the newly entered contact over. Anybody else experience this or have a work around?

Do you have your phone set to save new contacts to google?
Contacts > Menu > Settings > Save new contacts to
edit:
post above mine is the way to go....
It worked! Thank you so much. Now do you have to do this every single time? Seems counter productive to having auto sync features with your google account if you have to do this every time you add somebody.
edit: settings was set to "Save to phone" Why did I not even think of this! Thanks again
Nope, that is the default setting for all contacts. Set it once and you should be good. However, I would double check it after re-flashing ROMs and such, just in case.
I would set that setting to 'Always ask'. This setting will be applied whenever you add a new contact. The default is 'Phone' which does not sync with Google. If you have Exchange server account, you will see exchange contact as well.
So, each contacts belongs to a specific contact provider: Phone, SIM card, Google, Exchange account or any other account types you installed. Only the contacts that belongs to a that contact provider will be synced with that provider. Phone and SIM card contacts stays on the phone or SIM card, never synced with any cloud services.
I'm running a Galaxy Nexus, Jelly Bean.I just noticed after a long while that my avatar in the Gmail app was incorrect. After trying to change it, I noticed that clicking the contact doesn't bring up the local "me" contact so I removed it in hopes that it would sync correctly. Now clicking the contact says "contact does not exist" and asks if I'd like to add them. Obviously the email and names match, since it's the google account I use on the phone. Is there a way to get it to properly sync with the local "me" contact on the phone, or do I have to add a second contact of myself into google contacts?
I have all of my contacts stored in gmail contacts online.
In the course of trying to tidy up contacts on my phone, deleting duplicate/unnecessary info and 'joining' multiple accounts (mostly gmail, facebook and whatsapp) I had a bit of a Homer Simpson moment managed to delete all of my contacts (D'Oh!!).
Fortunately, as I said above I have them in gmail contacts online and had also exported them to my SD card as a vcard and so have managed to get them back (albeit having to tidy them up again).
Here's the thing though, when I go to the Contacts menu item 'Contacts to display' the contacts show when All Contacts or Gmail account are selected, but when I select Phone contacts in 'Contacts to display' the list is empty.
How do I move/copy my gmail contacts so that they are held in the actual phone memory and displayed if I opt to display Phone contacts only (i.e. no longer link to my gmail contacts)?
Cheers in advance,
Rich
I think what you need to is to sync your contact again. Contact to display is only show if your phone have a contact that is available in your gmail contact only.
copy contacts to phone only

Click to collapse
I think you've misunderstood my original question. I have got the contacts visible when I view all contacts or view gmail contacts, but there is an option in the contacts menu to view contacts on phone only (i.e. not those stored in gmail contacts). When I use that option I don't see any of my contacts. Therefore, what I need to be able to do is copy the contacts across from gmail contacts so they are visible in the phone contacts only view, but I can't figure out how to copy them across to the phone.
Never had to do it on either my s2 or s3 before. I did do it on my old HTC via a menu option along the lines of 'Copy contacts to phone' but there isn't a menu option like that on the s3 unless I'm missing something obvious.
Anyone got any ideas?
Cheers.
Hi,
I've just updated my phone (Samasung Galaxy S3 i9305) and a lot of recent contacts are not there. This is frustrating and problematic.
It seems my contacts are not saving to my google account (ie I can't find them when I check my gmail account on a PC).
When I save a new contact:
I'll type the number, then click "Create contact". At the top of the contact info, it has the blue google G, says "Google contact" and has my email below it.
However, upon searching a lot of new contacts aren't there! Is there a set time/regularity that the contacts back-up to online?
Hello, I am finding this very unusual. I have 3 gmail accounts synced to my phone. I do not use face book, snapchat, whatsapp, etc and do not have any other accounts synced to my phone not even my work email.
I have Telegram and I am noticing people joining with a phone number attached saying my friend so and so is joined Telegram.
I do not recognize the name or number, so I go and select each of my contact accounts and scroll through them and I find nothing. However when I search for the name it comes up with a name and phone number. There is NO edit button, the menu options only show delete, share, Add to home screen, set ringtone, Route to Voicemail, and Help and feedback. Normally I would hit delete, however where these contacts are coming from is a complete mystery to me. I tried clearing contact app data
I checked ALL three accounts online via a PC as well, and it does not come up anywhere. Where in the hell are these contacts coming from. Chances are they are an old deleted contact whom I no longer speak with, but how and why are they being found in he search but not when i scroll through the list. I thought about SIM card contacts, but I installed a SIM card reader and there are none. I removed all accounts but my main one and cleared app data for contacts, but it still shows.
I have a second phone with the same gmail accounts and the mysterious contact does not show up on it, so I need help determining where this contact is located. There are other contacts i searched for that does not have an account as well. I would really like to know where these contacts are if anyone can help.
