[APP] Potential fix for Sleep of Death - Nook Color Themes and Apps

Mods: Please move this thread if needed. This app is specific to CM7, so I wasn't sure which section I should post it in.
Everyone else: If this has been addressed elsewhere, please let me know.
I am currently running CyanogenMod-7-09252011-NIGHTLY-encore with interactiveX scaling between 300MHz and 1300MHz (using SetCPU 2.1.1a and Nook Tweaks 1.4.3) on my NookColor (NC), and was experiencing at least one Sleep of Death (SoD) every day. I believe I have a solution to this problem, and it has helped me avoid SoD for the last two weeks.
* I installed Wake My Android Pro (free, but here is a mirror)
* I then set "Invisible Wake Every" to 9 minutes (longer durations seem to not help protect against SoD). Do not select "Auto StartUp" until you're sure the app doesn't mess around with the stability of your NC.
* Then, in Settings -> Display, I set Screen Timeout to 30 seconds.
This will wake up your NC for 30 seconds every 9 minutes. In conjunction with disabling WiFi when the screen is off (Settings -> Wireless & networks -> Wi-Fi settings, click Menu -> Advanced -> Wi-Fi sleep policy -> Never), I have not experienced a single SoD in the last two weeks.
As always, your mileage might vary, and this might render your NC inoperable. It has worked for me, however, so I thought I'd share this info with you. If you find this helpful, won't you please consider clicking the "Thank" button at the bottom of this post?
Thanks for reading, and have a wonderful day!

A question:
Those of you who are using nook color and CM 7.1
Have you ever tried to disable mobile data?
In Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks > Uncheck "Data enabled".
I think the problem is that when the system tries to switch from Wi Fi to (non existing) mobile, it causes the sleep of death.
This solved the problem, at least for me!

thanks for the suggestion-- i'll try it, and report back.
--edit: had SOD when i woke up today.

Try this one.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.thedarken.wl
Select PARTIAL_WAKE_LOCK and then hit "Aquire"
Update: This application wouldn't help either. But clean install of 4.0.4 with related boot, recovery, etc. and OTA to 4.1.1 did the trick. And now with clean Android I have no any SOD for more than two weeks!
Only thing I disabled Google Media and Google Assistant.

[Q] How to keep WiFi active when screen is off?

I wanted to keep IM software run in background so I need WiFi keep alive even if the screen is off. I'v set the WiFi policy to "Never" in settings. But it always disconnect when screen is off so my IM software will offline... I don't have this problem before. But today I have tried many Roms such as Bionix's Master's and Trigger, they all have this problem. I don't know why.. please help.
PS: I'v tried to uninstall "Super Power" to see if there are some setting cause it. But it's no help.
Thanks everyone!
Download spare Parts (Some ROMS already have it). In it there is a wifi sleep policy that you can set to "Never" as in "Never go to sleep."
EDIT: Oh, you said you already tried that. Sorry.

[Q] Automatically Enable/Disable Mobile Data

I've done a lot of searching and have come up a bit fruitless on this. I was using JuiceDefender for a little before it just decided to not work anymore(?), but I really liked having my 4G disabled when the phone was in stand by with the lock screen and turning back on upon unlock. Just wanted to see if anyone knew an app that did this specifically. I'm using Apn4Apps right now, but it's just not quite the same.
I'm developer of Apn4Apps.
There is no sense to enable 4G if you open your screen to use your notepad.
Apn4Apps enables the mobile data for your selected applications.
Why would you need to enable 4G when the screen is on?

I installed this app and it it is exactly for my requirement. But for some reason the data connection goes off almost immediately as it turns on after a selected app is open. I'm on ICS.
Also, what is the timeout?
Thanks

I have some queries to understand the issue.
What's your phone brand and model?
What's your exact ICS version?
Is the rom stock version or not ?
The timeout value defines the timeout value for disabling the mobile data (3G/4G) when the screen goes off.
As an example if your screen has a value of 1 minute timeout value and APN4Apps has a timeout value of 10 sec then your mobile data will go off after 1 minute + 10 secs if you dont touch your phone.
Hi
this looks like a great idea, but it's not working 100% on my phone, so here's some feedback:
Galaxy S2 on the latest CM9 nightly. It only turns on data for your own app and the google play store, no other programs work, and it never turns off data on its own. Some apps, like Rainy Days, make your app crash.

Wifi nevers goes to sleep...

I discovered this issue not matter which rom I flash (CM7, CM9, Motoblur, etc.) : my wifi never goes to sleep even though I set the sleep policy correctly in the settings...
Any idea what to do ?
Up ?
Any clue on why this is happening. I had a massive error this morning (phone wouldn't boot) and I had to revert to full stock and the bug is still there...
have you tried reflashing system with RSD? or airplane mode?
I just flashed through RSD and the Wifi is always on. And I don't want to go in Airplane mode...I still need my phone for phone calls, you know...
just try to turn on Airplane Mode. If wifi will be turned on then you have hardware problem, and you have send your phone to service
Airplane mode actually shuts the wifi, as it should...
Wifi shuts off around 5 minutes after screen is shut off IF there is not data being transfered. Maybe you have a rogue app that keeps your connection busy? Hmmm

Any idea of an app that will tell me if an app is keeping the wifi awake ?

Not off the top of my head, but try disabling auto sync and background data and see if the problem goes away. Hope this works for you.

Try flashing this. It's for ICS based roms, but it sets permissions on 3 files that cause your phone to not fully go to sleep

Do these files install in the correct location? I was reading a discussion not long ago where some thought /system/bin and some thought /system/xbin. There was also a mention of setting permissions.
Edit:
I just remembered that I also downloaded a file from your Goo Atrix page. It is a different file size from the link you posted in the message I am replying to.

I looked at the script and a recent flash of jokersax v070, the permissions are already set to root:shell 744 (rwxr-xr-x) on the directory and files, so no need to flash on that rom in my opinion

Happens with CM9 here, but only at my work. At my home wifi sleep works.
I'm testing the solution given here:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=23211
Wifi entered sleep normally after the change. I will test more.
I can also confirm that the phone will deep sleep and that WIFI will sleep with this patch on Jokersax' CM9 0.7.0.0. Without the patch neither of those things worked.

If you look at the scripts you'll see that jokersax 070 already performs the steps contained in this script and on a phone without this applied the files do correctly reflect the permissions per this script. I can see that you are battling with this issue, as many are, but considering the two scripts are identical, it makes no senses to make this claim. I do believe you regarding the symptoms. And I am unable to offer an explanation regarding the apparent change on your phone.

Wifi bug

i've the rom GingerDX 031c and I've noted a bug with wifi.
pratically, when the phone connected to a wifi and when I put it in standby, it lose the connection with the wifi, so, for example, if someone send me an important message on whatsapp I can't know, because is such as there isn't wifi.
anyone can fix this bug?
sorry for my bad english.
If u use scripts it happens especially performance scripts like pure performance... Scripts switch to data and close wifi when phone sleeps... Did not read the scripts yet, could look when i had time...

LooL.
1.Just Go to Wi-Fi settings
2.Click Menu (Left button) Of ace.
3.Click Advanced
4.Click on Wi-Fi Sleep Policy
5.And select 3rd option that is Never
This happens because usually By default Option selected for wifi is like when you turn off screen Your wifi gets disconnected automatically. This setting is for battery Conservation purpose.
So you have to manually change that default setting. So after this your wiFi will not turn Off though your screen is off.
Hope this helps you.
& I don't think it has anything to do with Scripts.

Phone disconnects from Wi-Fi in sleep mode

Greetings. I have a problem with my phone and Wi-Fi connection.
My phone is a Sony Xperia J running stock Android 4.1.2. When I leave it for a while in sleep mode, whether charging or not, it disconnects from my Wi-Fi connection and uses my phone's data, draining my data plan.
I need your help concerning this issue. Here are some of my phone's related settings:
Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep: Always.
Avoid poor connections: Unchecked.
Extended Standby Mode: Unchecked.
Thanks in advance.
UPDATE: Since then I've disabled my data plan so I can check if my phone is properly connecting to my Wi-Fi or not. It seems that yesterday I had no problem, but today I'm experiencing it. I don't know what should I do. :crying:

Did u use SIPdroid?
If yes uninstall it.
Sent from my OPO using CM14.1 <3
Also make sure that you don't have the battery saver mode on or another app that tries to save battery because they will often interfere and disable that for you as well.

Only other setting I can think of that controls that is in Developer Options. There's one that's aggressive hand off from wifi to cellular data and one for keep data on at all times. If you haven't enabled Developer Options yet then forget I mentioned it as it'll not be on by default.

I have Developer Options enabled and I don't see any of these options there.
Anyway, I think I have found the cause of the problem (a conflicting application, I just did a clean reinstall of it) and so far I'm good, if the problem persists I'll post again.
Thank you everyone who participated in this thread.
Glad to hear that it seems you found the cause. Please let us know what app in case someone else has the same issue and stumbles across your post.
Well, it was WhatsApp. Apparently I had a duplicate APK in my SD card (I use Link2SD) from before the factory reset. I say it was a duplicate because I unlinked WhatsApp from the SD card, but when I uninstalled it it said it was removing it from the SD card.
Thanks again!
