Rooted RAZR now stuck on bootloop - Motorola Droid RAZR

I used the Root procedure, and it worked fine. Installed Superuser and Busybox, still ok. Then installed the RazrBootstrap.apk. After I powered the phone down and back on, its now caught in an endless loop showing the boot animation. I've tried powering it off, but can't (thanks to no battery removal). I was able to get into a recovery screen by pressing both volume keys and power key together, and tried to restart, but then keeps looping again.
I went back into the recovery menu and tried the factory rest. All it showed was formatting /data and /cache. It didn't look like it did a full reset. Now when I start the phone, it still boot loops, but only gets about 5 seconds into the animation and reboots.
I do have a 2nd working RAZR here if that helps.
I've been told it might be possible to do a Nandroid/CWM backup image of the good RAZR and use it to flash the broken one, but I've never done that procedure before.
Please help, if anyone knows what to do.
I'm thinking it was the RazrBootstrap that caused the problem, as it was working fine after being Rooted and having SuperUser and BusyBox installed.

Do the nandroid backup on the good phone, then use recovery to push the files from the good razr to the bad one, then do a restore of your good nandroid backup. That should do the trick

I was told something similar by someone else, but have never done a Nandroid backup and restore. I don't want to mess things up without some type of step-by-step guide.
Someone else said it might not work as the Razrs files have to be "Motorola signed" in order to work.
Too bad there's not an XML restore file for the Razr that can be pushed using RSD.

Funny because I ran into a similar situation with mine in the fact it went into boot loop after the phone had been working fine rooted, I installed TiBu and restarted and phone started looping.

restoring using nandroid backup, after wiping data

Hi, I am pretty new to this stuff, so bear with me here.
I recently rooted and installed eclipse v 0.5. Everything went well except I did not get my contacts and figured I did something wrong in the original ROM. I decided to go back to my original rom...but decided to wipe data because I thought that was the right thing to do. Now I have no idea how to restore the nandroid backup because I don't know how to get to clockwork recovery.
Help would be appreciated.
Thanks

agreed, u should still have bootstrap installed. are in in the os and dont know how to perform the nandroid restore or are you in the recovery and dont know where to go from there?
After you flash a rom the first time you use bootstrap you have to click install recovery

It has been my experience that after wiping data the bootstrap recovery is gone. Or I guess I shouldn't say gone but it will not boot into recovery after data wipe.

weird, I had root and bootstrap still installed after wiping data/cache and dalvik cache.
That Might Have Been Read Wrong, By Flashing Recovery I Meant Pressing The Install Button. To Me That's Flashing The Recovery.
Have you tried just plugging in the phone to the wall charger. Yes wall. And wait to see if it goes to recovery mode.
If it doesn't work all I think you can do is sbf and start again.

ok:
what do you do if said event happens where your recovery doesn't load through after the rom installs with the wipe/cache wipe
your phone boots, however your usb conditions are stuck on usb mode rather than charge mode.
the initial setup starts but is stuck in a loop of force closes that never end.
i have successfully used Roms in the past, no big deal. when **** hits the fan i use sbf; but i'm stuck in limbo where both recovery and sbf are seeming to be out of my options - unless i can change usb mode to charge mode by some strange form of buttons pressed.

Unplug your phone. Hold volume up and power on until you see the m logo and rsd protocol starting.
Sent from my DROID X2 using Tapatalk
well that allows rsd to find it but - it won't just flash it and call it good. i'm getting all sorts of errors from rsd saying something about my ini
Code:
Failed flashing process. Unable to retrieve initialization value from INI file (0x7029)
i get this error before the above error (before i actually "start" it)
Code:
Chipset type 53 is not supported
restarted computer:
updated drivers:
no dice, same errors
EDIT: the problem was in the RSD version i was using, i got everything working now. thanks!

[Q] HELP - Can't get into Bootstrap!

long story short ......with the new beats audio news out i flashed that and got stuck at the M logo on boot.
I pulled the battery plugged in and booted but still the same, stuck at M logo. Why is my bootstrap not working? i used it earlier today.
I also tried getting into the stock android recovery but then it just gets stuck at the android guy next to the triangle with the ! in the middle.
How do i get back into bootstrap so i can flash my nandroid backup! Thanks guys!
p.s. i have tried it numerous times hoping it would eventually work but nothing.

Did you flash the zrecovery before you rebooted?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1426062
Might save you next time
Also if you wiped data your bootstrap will be gone.
not sure what zrecovery is?
i have the bootstrap recovery installed and have been using that for months without a hitch, just after i flashed the beats audio zip this morning (in bootstrap), i can't get it to even boot. im stuck at the M logo. and if i pull the battery and plug in, it won't even start up to bootstrap. I just want to flash my nandroid backup
i didn't wipe data, just flashed the zip. chose reboot in Bootstrap like normal and bam, stuck at M logo.....any way to force back into bootstrap? I was literally just in bootstrap 1 hr ago so i know its there....just not loading
Not that I aware of besides doing a sbf rooting again and installing bootstrap and then you can restore your nano back up.
Be sure to pull the battery for 30 sec put back and then plug in to get cwr to boot. Or Then try to access stock recov pwr on & rocker down to wipe data.
Thanks for the help!
As far as I know, the only way to get into bootstrap is through the bootstrap app itself. Which you need to be able to get into your phone to do. I do think you can get into it by rebooting while plugged in but maybe this doesnt work if you did something to mess up the startup. As was mentioned already, your only choice most likely is to SBF, root and install bootstrap again and then restore your backup.
I beg to differ. As long as charge mode was never put back to normal which is also a mistake.

if u have BSR installed and u haven't wiped data or flashed any new ROM, u can just power down/battery pull and u will boot into BSR, it hijacks charge only mode

sending out an SBF, my God there are great tutorials here in General and Android Dev sections... Cwr is not part of DX2 BSR is, but you wiped and lost that. To enter stock Android Recovery you just hit power button volume down...but that won't help you now...so just SBF and root then restore your backed up material through Titanium backup.... Install BSR and NANDroid back...you did make NANDroid backups I assume, if not I suggest starting to. Good luck

Thats what I thought. But the OP cant get that to work from what I get. Is that method still supposed to work if you cant even boot the phone?
As long as you do not wipe data BSR should be installed. If you pull battery and put it back in before you even try to boot plug it in to wall charger. This will take you straight to BSR before you ever try to boot. Then you can get back to your nano back up.

Stock recovery wont allow you to flash stuff to the phone or backup your ROM or stuff like that. Thats why we have a special one to do those things.
Stock is good for flashing an ota (no need to rename just make it start w/ a number so it will be first in a mess of zips at the root of your external sd)
And wiping data.

[Q] Multiple Force Closes + Everytime Reboot, system reverts back to previous state

Very strange thing happening with my Razr. I all of a sudden noticed a number of apps force closing, including motorola and google processes. I have the Verizon CDMA Razr .181, rooted, su, busybox, etc. I have bootstrap installed but never use it, however notice that it is always granted SU permission on boot.
Anyways, when I decided to reboot my phone it booted back up but I started getting calendar alerts from Sunday 5/6 that I had already dismissed, and my gmail was only synced through about 4pm on 5/6, though my system clock and date show correctly the present. What I also noticed is any app I unstainall or setting I change (ie, debug in settings), once I reboot my Razr reverts to the 5/6 setup.
I thought I'd get into Boostrap (which I can't recall ever needing to in the past) so I click "BootStrap Recovery".. I get the "Success!" box, then click "Reboot Recovery". Only problem is it never goes into recovery, but just reboots into the 5/6 state.
I tried to reload the Verizon OTA via RSD Lite, but it always fails on 3/28 with an mbmloader.bin restriction. I tried using Motofail and Matt's Razr Utility to revert back to previous builds, but I get an read-only error on just about all the chmods.
Anyone else seen this or have any suggestions? At this point I'm looking to go back to stock so I can start fresh.
Are you sure you're using the 181 sbf?

One trick you might try to get to recovery is reboot, then manually power off before it completely boots (I think vol down and power does that). Next boot should be CWM. I haven't needed to use that method since I had a Bionic but the option shouldn't have changed. Essentially if bootstrap sees that you didn't boot successfully it'll go to recovery.
May want to make sure you have root (test a root app). Try updating su binary in Super User.

I tried your initial method, but it didn't work.. just boots me to my homescreen as usual. It's strange, I can't seem to load or get to any other recovery other than stock. I even tried to reinstall boostrap. I also tried safestrap. Nothing.
I'm getting the "granted super user permission" popups when certain apps such as JuiceDefender, VOODO keeper, SQL Lite, ec. I'm also able to go into SU and activate and delete SU permissions.. then it prompts me again when I open apps, so I'm assuming I have root. I thought though maybe it was a "soft" root or something, so I tried to root it with DroidRazr Utility Matt's app it can't write to certain files. Strange.

Have you made any modifications that could have caused the issues? I've been reading online trying to find the other tricks I used to use for manual bootsrap with no luck. There's a file that is deleted when you reboot telling bootstrap it's ok on your next reboot. If you can figure out that file and reinsert it with Root Explorer, it should go to recovery (just a blank file).
Also research the hack that forces CWM on every reboot. Again, sorry for not having more info, never had to use it.

Will do!. Don't be sorry, this is something new to try and anything new is helpful! Let me know if you think of anything else and I'll keep you posted.
p.s. I find it weird though that no matter how I modify my settings / apps / etc while booted, once I reboot it reverts back to ~Sunday afternoon. Very weird.

Yes, I've tried factory reset but it boots me back the same way... As if it's Sunday afternoon 5/6. And I'm trying to remember if there was anything that happened or I installed then. The only thing that comes to mind is that my phone was unresponsive for about 30 minutes, though seemed to be still on as my green LED was flashing as if I had notifications but I couldn't get the screen to come up. I then had to force power down (power + vol down).
I've also tried wiping data / cache in stock recovery, but doesn't do anything.
Im still stuck. Anyone else have any thoughts? Im to the point where I may just buy a new device, full retail, if needed...but that would set me back quite a bit. As an alternative, im happy to make a donation for anyone who can get my Razr back to a normal state.

Aside from sbf'ing I don't know what else to suggest. When you sbf'ed, you had:
Good charge
Oem cord plugged to the BACK of the computer (not the front)
Moto Drivers
Latest RSD Lite
What OS are you using (XP, 7, Linux)? 32 or 64 bit?
Have you tried on another computer? That could be your problem.
If all else fails, you can send it to me (just cover shipping both ways). I kinda enjoy tring to fix phones (software issues).

Possibly bricked my phone while trying to upgrade to jellybean

Well I downloaded the new jellybean zip that just came out for the razr. I loaded it into sd card and then rebooted into clockword recovery. I wiped, data/cache and then tried to install the jellybean zip from the sd card. It gave me an error '"assert failed: file_getprop("/system/build.prop". "ro.build.fingerprint")... (much longer). I rebooted my machine, and since I had wiped data/cache it booted right into a fresh install of ICS.
I decided to try to reboot back into clockwork recovery and try to redo the jellybean install from the sd card in case the previous try was a fluke. I ended up getting the same error. So I just said **** it, I'll restore back to a nandroid backup I had made two days ago. During the restore it said that it was unable to restore the "/system" partition. Since this didn't work I thought I'd just wipe data/cache again and just go back to a fresh install of ICS again.
Except this time it just boots into a black screen. All the lights on the bottom of the keyboard are lit up, but nothing is displayed on the screen at all. I believe the phone is on but I do not see any display on the screen at all. Just black. When I hook it up to a computer I am able to access both the internal storage as well as the sd card.
Anybody have any ideas? Maybe I can try loading ICS on the sd card and try flashing that?
My guess would be your backup might be corrupted, system partition is where all the important stuff is, so if it wasnt flashed, your phone cant boot up. Your computer recognizing it is a good sign. Use RSD Lite to reflash a stock ROM from motorola. Some of the stuff i have read about flashing the jb zip are suggesting that anyways after (I haven't done it yet myself) In regards to your backup, you can try it again, but you may have to start from scratch..... You do have your apps backed up with titanium right?

Damn, I was running .173 from a while ago. Never even bothered to update to .211 since .173 was running so good. RSDlite isn't even seeing my phone at all even though it is technically turned on with no display.
Edit: Nevermind. I was able to use a utility to restore back to stock ICS.

[Q] DX2 doesn't boot after backup

Hello, I have a major problem with something that should have been a minor project. I used System Recovery to do a backup of the phone. The only thing I can think of there that I might have done differently is save the backup to the external SD card, instead of internal. After the backup completed, I went to reboot the phone and it's stuck on the Motorola splash screen. I tried to pull the battery and go into that general Android Recovery in order to wipe data and try again, but I just get the Android with an exclamation point over his head. I've tried booting it without the SD card too. I was using CM7
Can anyone help please!
EDIT: A couple hours later, since it was my work phone, I had to do something. I reverted the SBF, re-rooted and tried to restore from the backup I made and the same thing happened. I'm going to try to revert to my previous backup. I have a full backup from Titanium Backup if it comes down to it. The phone was working fine, I just can't figure out why it blew up on me after I ran the backup. Grr..

sounds like a bad backup. i always use external sd for nandroids and it has never had issues.i would just re-flash. as for stock recovery with andy with an exclamation , push both volume keys. should work regardless of what state the phone is in. i have had it completely unusable and it still worked.

OK - You mean to flash cleanly with CM7 and then restore from Titanium backup instead of my previous nandroid backup?
I'm slightly confused about that System Recovery tool, because first I had ROM Manager and it says that CWM is installed, but it doesn't work. Do I have to manually install that System Recovery APK each time I do stuff like this, or does it stay installed? And if so, from a powered off state, how do you enter it? Or do you have to boot up to Android and enter recovery mode from the app? Thanks.

yes i would try that. second, dont use rom manager. dont delete it either. but it doesnt work on our phone. the bootstrap recovery that you install would only need to be reinstalled if you delete cache in recovery. otherwise it should always work. hope this helps. im not completely sure exactly what you are asking.
try just restoring system part of backup, see if phone will boot, then restore user data

I should be fine now, thanks for the advice. I don't know why that backup blew up the phone, but it was sure an inconvenience haha! I just reflashed CM completely, and now I'm gonna roll out my Titanium backup. I don't have a lot of stuff, just the essential stuff for work, so it shouldn't take too long.
