Possibly bricked my phone while trying to upgrade to jellybean - Motorola Droid RAZR

Well I downloaded the new jellybean zip that just came out for the razr. I loaded it into sd card and then rebooted into clockword recovery. I wiped, data/cache and then tried to install the jellybean zip from the sd card. It gave me an error '"assert failed: file_getprop("/system/build.prop". "ro.build.fingerprint")... (much longer). I rebooted my machine, and since I had wiped data/cache it booted right into a fresh install of ICS.
I decided to try to reboot back into clockwork recovery and try to redo the jellybean install from the sd card in case the previous try was a fluke. I ended up getting the same error. So I just said **** it, I'll restore back to a nandroid backup I had made two days ago. During the restore it said that it was unable to restore the "/system" partition. Since this didn't work I thought I'd just wipe data/cache again and just go back to a fresh install of ICS again.
Except this time it just boots into a black screen. All the lights on the bottom of the keyboard are lit up, but nothing is displayed on the screen at all. I believe the phone is on but I do not see any display on the screen at all. Just black. When I hook it up to a computer I am able to access both the internal storage as well as the sd card.
Anybody have any ideas? Maybe I can try loading ICS on the sd card and try flashing that?

My guess would be your backup might be corrupted, system partition is where all the important stuff is, so if it wasnt flashed, your phone cant boot up. Your computer recognizing it is a good sign. Use RSD Lite to reflash a stock ROM from motorola. Some of the stuff i have read about flashing the jb zip are suggesting that anyways after (I haven't done it yet myself) In regards to your backup, you can try it again, but you may have to start from scratch..... You do have your apps backed up with titanium right?

All of my apps are backed up with titanium but at this point I really just want a working phone lol. My backup got stuck on the /system partition and that is exactly where the jb rom got stuck on. So for whatever reason I can't write to it.

You only flash this in stock recovery. You must be on stock ICS .211

Damn, I was running .173 from a while ago. Never even bothered to update to .211 since .173 was running so good. RSDlite isn't even seeing my phone at all even though it is technically turned on with no display.
Edit: Nevermind. I was able to use a utility to restore back to stock ICS.

Screen goes black

My vibrant running a rooted froyo started to act up today after it wouldnt play my mp3 files, saying how its the incorrect format or something. So after it said that for every song i restarted the phone. I get past the phone boot screen and i even get to see the bar up top that i could usually slide down but the rest is black, i hold the power button as if im going to shut it off and the power menu comes up and anything i do freezes the device. The bottom soft touch keys are turning on but seem to have no effect on anything the phone does. Im also getting these weird vibrations out of it every so often.
I got into recovery, tried deleting the caches, still nothing so i formatted the system partition since it gave me an error every time i tried to restore it. now its stuck at the vibrant screen.
Help please

well if you restored the rom and it dont pass the first screen you should install a kernel such as dead horse, dragon, overstock...and it should work because ive had that before
Easiest way is to Odin to stock...you are trying to run the wrong kernal on whatever rom you are using...they are incompatible

ok brother so now reroot the phone and flash anything again... just read instructions and make sure its for vibrants
If bet you installed a non voodoo kernel over a voodoo one and it wiped your internal SD card....you news to toto the vibrant Bible and get the update.zip, move it to your internal SD...then reboot into recovery, then reinstall packages might have to hit reinstall packages twice...then you can flash whatever rom u want

I had the same question when I started out. I'll make it easy on you.
Go into recovery, use the volume buttons to toggle up and down. Go to wipe data / factory reset. Select it and then confirm it. Then go to wipe cache partition and do the same. Then go to advanced and select wipe davlik. THAT IS HOW TO WIPE. This is recommended to do before flashing a new ROM.

That's easy to get past. Just load a PGIMG05.zip file onto the ROOT of your SD card. ROOT means without being in any folders. If you're on BAMF 3.0 then you're on Gingerbread. So find the RUU file for unsigned Gingerbread RUU and place it on the ROOT. Then do an Hboot. Which is Power down and volume up at the same time when the phone is off. Make sure you don't have any PGIMG05 files on the ROOT. You probably do because you rooted your phone. If you don't you could end up with S back on.
**You did flash the correct Gingerbread radio...right?
**I have no clue where the Gingerbread RUU is. If you find it, please post it. It will be a fairly large file. Probably around 300mb+
EDIT:
I'm sorry but the RUU for Gingerbread isn't out yet. Try Hbooting the MR1 then Hboot the MR2 Radio RUU which is 2.3.4 base.
Link to Jcase radio thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=997724&highlight=RUU
I'm pretty sure, you'll need to flash the "PG05IMG_Mecha_VERIZON_WWE_1.13.605.7_Radio_1.16.00.0402w_NV_8k_1.41_9k_1.64_release_182727_signed.zip" on that page which should be the last link.
Take your SD Card out, put in a reader or another Android phone and delete the radio file from it.

I've had this problem too and I've wiped and reflashed from scratch to fix it.
But this happens to all my backups, making nandroid backups virtually useless to me now. Anybody know why this happens? I've never had a problem like this before and it started after trying to restore from the new CM7 back to bamf 2.1....
A common solution would be to backup the SD Card and reformat it in Clockwork or with SDFormatter.. NOT IN WINDOWS.
When the house gets dirty, you have to clean it.

I have tried to format/system and every other piece of advice i can find I still cant get any nandroids to restore... Any ideas?
I have search every possible thread regarding restoring a nandroid and have tried every possible fix... my only solution, which DID WORK, was to format/system, do a full wipe of all three, and then flash the original zip, I cant use any nandroids at all!!! if any one know why please tell me how to restore a nandroid for future use. thanks
format did not work for me either.
restores worked for me at when i came off of Synergy's ROM back to bamf3.0, but coming outta CM7 to bamf 3.0 busted it again...very strange.

I am using th3orys inj3ct rom and just wanted to see what Synergy was all about, when I wasn't impressed i tried to restore my nandroid (which i made right before i flashed synergy) and that is when all the trouble started... i tried everything that I know of and just had to reflash the original ROM and start from scratch, sux but at least my phone is back on.
I had this issue over the weekend. However I did do a restore prior to getting the error... I was texting my gf, and all of a sudden my screen wouldn't turn on... Pulled the battery and when i booted up I kept getting the error.
I had a PG05IMG.zip on my SD card so if I tried to boot to recovery from boot menu it wouldn't let me.
I took my SD card and plugged it into a PC using an adapter. Deleted the PG05IMG.zip and then booted to recovery. Restored my latest backup (3 days old) and everything worked.

Accidentally Updated After Rooting

Hi,
I accidentally updated to Gingerbread on my Thunderbolt, and I forgot I rooted my phone, by the time I remembered it already had a blue android and an explaimation mark. So I did some random crap, and probley made it worse.
First I did the vol down power thing went to factory reset it loaded CWM v4.0.1.4
I wiped cache patition
Dalvick cache
and Battery stats
then I wiped data/factory reset
It loaded like it was brand new everything seemed fine till I updated and did same thing so I wiped the data again and now it keeps auto updating so I have to keep my internet off
and it's annoying as crap
I'm a noob so I don't understand stuff
should I go ahead with this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1009423
I couldn't understand it and if your not rooted why would you unroot I don't get that part...
Do I still have root?
What does flash exactly mean?
Current Specs (I don't know what to give but I'll guess)
Thunderbolt
Top says
Mecha XD S-OFF
HBOOT 6.04.1002
eMMC-boot
Android Version 2.2.1
(tell me if you need any other info)
Should I upgrade to gingerbread any way
Download a customer rom, put it on your sd card and flash it in CWM. I'm running BAMF forever and like it. There are plenty of roms to choose from. This should stop the update. After running the rom if you decide you like stock better you can flash the stock rom back and take the update. You will loose root.
Pull the update off the SD. It will stop flashing it

3. no backups recent or not

If you clear the cache, the shutdowns will stop.
But the OTA will download again, and in a few days you will have to repeat the process.
A custom ROM fixed me, but now the same thing poped up.
May go back to stock .... trying xdabolt, but in the process lost my data.

sounds like you still have s-off. Anything you are trying to save like app data is gone if you do not have a back up. I would down load a customer rom or even one of the rooted stock versions with the latest OTA and flash that with CWM recovery. Be sure to clear cache and dalvick wipe first when you flash it. There are RUU you could use to return it to stock, but you will lose root. I'm running BAMF forever 1.0.9 and like it. Play around with some roms and if you don't like them use a RUU to restore you back to stock. Most important is make sure you read up on things first.

unrooting is good and all, but if that happens again, just look around for the newest ruu and find a rooted version. most ruu get rooted that day... heck i had 2.11.605.5 rooted b4 verizon released it (the 2nd leak, the one WITH working vm notifications) thanks to eris of course. then you'd be up to date, stock, rooted... all you'd have to do is wipe dalvik, cache, and system... keep the data (if coming from sense 2.1 rom) and you'd be good.
i don't mess with sense 2.1/3.0 hybrid or 3.0 roms anymore, for this very reason. a ton of incompatibilities between the roms and framework, causing you to have to wipe data when switching... what a pita! i haven't wiped data in months. keep the data always to make life easier...
if you have problems, use clockwork's "fix permissions" and reboot. problem not solved? then retry rom installation WIPING EVERYTHING, then at least you tried to keep your stuff. titanium backup is great for backing up apps + data, so you can import the data back when you're stable on the new rom... just restore the apps + data for the necessary apps, and app only for the stuff that doesn't mnatter... never restore system apps + data for roms with severely different basebands or from completely different roms. unrooting won't be necessary next time

If the phones rooted you can prolly get into recovery VIA hboot.
If its not rooted you can prolly find a ota ruu and flash it in hboot. U can do that if its rooted too but ull lose root. Or if its a locked s off there's methods to roll back to factory and turn s on. And yes delete the orig update off the card

Stuck at HTC splash screen

The 300 MB update started to install, but after the reboot, it's hung at the HTC splash screen. After about 40 minutes sitting there, I pulled the battery. I'm able to get back into the bootloader and recovery so I'm not hard bricked. I'm pretty sure my mistake was letting the update install with AmonRa recovery, not stock. The 7 MB update installed fine that way, though. I just clicked reboot after it was done patching.
Any ideas how to recover from this without completely bricking my phone?
It was completely stock GB other than being rooted and AmonRa.
hopefully you have your data backed up.
I would suggest running the FULL ruu linked here if a data wipe in amon ra doesn't work.
Fortunately between Titanium and a couple of nandroid backups, I do have backups of everything but the stock recovery. I'm debating whether to restore /system and try it again when I get home from work.
Anybody have a link to the full .12 RUU?
I'm pretty sure I read you need to be on stock recovery in order to take OTA.

Found the recovery image at the bottom of this thread. I restored /system and /boot (not sure if I needed /boot, but it seemed like a good idea) and I'm back to GB again. For some reason I can see the update with the status button but it won't give me the option to install it.
EDIT: Gave it some time and it finally prompted me to install. All updated with some delicious frozen goodness.

[Q] DX2 doesn't boot after backup

Hello, I have a major problem with something that should have been a minor project. I used System Recovery to do a backup of the phone. The only thing I can think of there that I might have done differently is save the backup to the external SD card, instead of internal. After the backup completed, I went to reboot the phone and it's stuck on the Motorola splash screen. I tried to pull the battery and go into that general Android Recovery in order to wipe data and try again, but I just get the Android with an exclamation point over his head. I've tried booting it without the SD card too. I was using CM7
Can anyone help please!
EDIT: A couple hours later, since it was my work phone, I had to do something. I reverted the SBF, re-rooted and tried to restore from the backup I made and the same thing happened. I'm going to try to revert to my previous backup. I have a full backup from Titanium Backup if it comes down to it. The phone was working fine, I just can't figure out why it blew up on me after I ran the backup. Grr..

sounds like a bad backup. i always use external sd for nandroids and it has never had issues.i would just re-flash. as for stock recovery with andy with an exclamation , push both volume keys. should work regardless of what state the phone is in. i have had it completely unusable and it still worked.

OK - You mean to flash cleanly with CM7 and then restore from Titanium backup instead of my previous nandroid backup?
I'm slightly confused about that System Recovery tool, because first I had ROM Manager and it says that CWM is installed, but it doesn't work. Do I have to manually install that System Recovery APK each time I do stuff like this, or does it stay installed? And if so, from a powered off state, how do you enter it? Or do you have to boot up to Android and enter recovery mode from the app? Thanks.

yes i would try that. second, dont use rom manager. dont delete it either. but it doesnt work on our phone. the bootstrap recovery that you install would only need to be reinstalled if you delete cache in recovery. otherwise it should always work. hope this helps. im not completely sure exactly what you are asking.
try just restoring system part of backup, see if phone will boot, then restore user data

I should be fine now, thanks for the advice. I don't know why that backup blew up the phone, but it was sure an inconvenience haha! I just reflashed CM completely, and now I'm gonna roll out my Titanium backup. I don't have a lot of stuff, just the essential stuff for work, so it shouldn't take too long.
