Every couple weeks I always wipe cache and dalvik, seems to help on mtd. I only use google to sync contacts and tibu for apps.

Super Clean D101 Fc Errors

just wanted to report, I just installed the rom and did a wipe data and cache, everything went fine, restored my apps using titanium backup, but I got the fc force close as soon as I started the phone to sign in to my google account, when I signed to twitter, I got the fcs, I went to rom manager and did the fix permissions, rebooted but it keeps doing the fcs, I will give it some time to see, but it does not appear to affect anything, I just press force close and everyting goes well, I did a full benchmark, and it gives me 800, before I was at 2000 with the lag fix, I dont know if I want to keep this rom with the bloatware remove but sacrifice the speed and be bugged with the force close issue, I think I will wait for a more stable rom.
Did you clear the dilvak cache?

How do you do that?

boot into cwm recovery.. under advanced...
with that said... WTF is it? lol. ive been having some fc issues myself... running the clean 0.1 and get fc's during navigaton and from time to time.. seems like when its syncing.
EDIT: Also, dont rely too much on those quadrant scores.. there has been some debate as to the validity of those scores.
look at those scores closer, the only difference is the I/O speed which atm isn't showing a major speed difference unless you have like ten apps open. the cpu speeds and stuff are all the same, plus all the fcs are already being talked about in the roms thread

I was having force closes as well, but not anymore, I've heard if you wipe format, clear cache, clear davlik, do all that three times... Then once rom installed, install it again immediately after reboot you should have a solid install ... I don't know the science behind it, but my rom has been running pretty solid with no fcs.

i did clean the delvick cache, and it still does the fcs
i applied the zip from this thread..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=793479
and its behaving... though i was really only having problems after running my navi for more than 30min... guess ill see in the next hour or so if it cleared that up...
on the plus side.. i got my puzzle slide lock screen back... yeah i got some "garbage" back too... but i think maybe we need some of it to remain stable
I turned my calendar sync off and all is well.

Yeah I was going to say. Disable the calendar synch featurea for Google, Facebook, Exchange, and anything else you might have under accounts and you'll be fine. It FCs because the calendar app is being accessed but it isn't there.
I just went back to using Google Calendar online. That's what I did with my Eris cuz the stock calendar sucked so much. The Samsung calendar app was perfect. I can live without it though.

ok i will try that and report back
yes, it is fixed, i disabled the sync feature an d no more issues, thankz, im happy now

Strange force-close pattern regardless of rom

A little background--I'm not a newbie and have been running custom roms on my Fascinate for many months (and my Droid before it), but I'm also not an expert or programmer. OK, with that out of the way, here's the issue. When JT came out with the first version of CM7 I switched to it from the Froyo CommRom. Since CM7 had a lot of issues in the early days, I carefully followed this sticky and returned to CommRom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1124391
I've since had a pattern of getting severe force closes, to the point that the phone become non-functional, after several days of everything working fine. This has happened with CommRom, Evil Fascinate, CM7, and currently JT's Vanilla Gingerbread. I've gone back to stock many times, have cleared everything (including data), have run the ext4 formatter, have tried different radios (currently on EC09), and have tried different roms. In each case everything runs wonderfully for 2-4 days, then FC's begin. I use Titanium Backup Pro to restore things, but have been doing so without restoring data, since some say that causes FC's. I've also unchecked the options to have Google back up data, since some say that causes FC's.
I'm out of ideas and am getting tired of clearing data and starting over every few days. I suppose I could restore things to stock and see how that runs, but that might be too painful to survive. Anyone have any other ideas?
You mentioned that you restore apps with Titanium. Do you restore only downloaded apps, or system apps as well? Different ROMS often have different versions of system apps, which can cause problems when restoring.
I'd like to see this topic explored a bit deeper. My girlfriend and I both have Fascinates as well, and each of us sees significant force-close rates...not to the point where the phone doesn't function...but 5-10 per day.
Is this simply a chronic fascinate problem on the newer ROMS (we've used MIUI and Vanilla GB).
Have you tried going 4 days without any restore of any kind?
Try a fresh install from atlas/pit/ed05 and go with that for 4 days... No restores.
Probably not the answer you want, but it sounds like your backups contain corrupt data.

no its not a fascinate problem, its more likely user error... you must be installing apps & data with tibu. when jumping roms, only restore app's only. Also another thing to try is, boot into cwm, wipe cache, dalvik, and fix permissions.
Fwiw I very seldom ever get a FC...
I've been following the same pattern of behavior with the switching of ROMs and backing up with Titanium by restoring data and apps. My Fascinate picked up a number of bad habits along the way: phantom back button and keyboard button pressing, screen waking back up after I shut it off, and some force closes but nothing like some are reporting here.
I recently switched to PWGB which wipes all data. I used Titanium to restore contacts and text messages only and re-downloaded all the apps from the market.
Since the wipe everything has been smooth and error free.

you can use titanium to restore apps, long as you install app only.... do not install app+ data, thats where you run into problems.
I am experiencing this same issue. I first upgraded to CM7 nightlies back around August and that seemed to be the source of the issue. Each time it occurred, I would wipe data and it would disappear for several days or weeks. I then switched to jt's Vanilla GB, and had the same issue. Now I am on CM7.1 and am continuing to have the same problem. Wiping data seems to fix the problem, but it consistently returns after several days.
I did have some success with disabling sync and clearing data for the Contacts Storage and Google Framework applications, which seemed to stop the force-closing temporarily, but they did ultimately return. This only seemed to work for me once.

download disk usage from the market and check to see how full your /datadata folder is. I bet its full. there is a thread on rootzwiki about. you can either delete some apps or jt has a tweak to fix the issue.

I agree with this. Last summer I ran into a series of similar issues (fc and what not) on several roms. What I learned for myself is i never restore ANYTHING. What I do use tho is APP LIST BACKUP which is a very convenient and fast way to download apps fresh from the market. I currently enjoy a fc free phone

[Q] SGS2 slows down until I re-install ROM

Hey all,
I've had my SGS2 since May 2011 and using VillainROM as it has developed. The weird thing over the last few months has been the phone gradually slows down, I don't have a massive amount of apps installed and nothing running that should cause a slow down. It slows to the point where response to screen selections takes a second or two and even the haptic feedback slows down now and again (so instead of a quick buzz it causes a long buzz and then the next one will be OK).
The one solution I've found is to Titanium backup all of the apps and data then wipe and re-install the ROM, restore all apps and data then it's fine. The fact that I'm backing up/restoring the apps and it still being OK is another reason I don't believe it's app related, the only thing that will have changed is the full wipe and re-install of the ROM. This then lasts a couple of months in a good state before slowly getting worse again.
While this is a sure-fire solution it's also a time consuming and annoying one. So has anyone got any ideas as to what I could do to resolve this issue without a wipe?
Thanks
Russ
Try diffrent kernels and diffrent villainrom builds

What you could try is a wipe of dalvik and cache via recovery every so often see if that helps .
jje
I've been using VR3.0 and Ninphetamine 2.0.5 but I would expect these kinds of issues to be instantly apparent if it were related to either of those, not something that gradually gets worse?

And that wouldn't wipe any data? Truth be told I've never really known what they do but I wipe them before a re-install. I'll give it a go!
They just rebuild when you reboot .
Just tested it means reboot takes longer first run is all .

Cheers, I'll give it a go and see how I get on

[Q] short freeze during force close after ICS update

so far my experience with this phone is,
it never hangs. Hang as in it totally freeze, not responding to every thing,
and have to remove battery, or long press power button.
but apps force close happen every now and then.
in gingerbread, if app force close, a pop up appear and i can choose to report or close it. anyway, the point is, i can dismiss it instantly.
after upgrade to ICS, if an app force close,
the phone totally freeze and stop responding for about 10-15 seconds,
i have to wait and stare in despair as my phone stop responding during this duration. finally a pop up appear saying that app has stop responding,
then only i can dismiss that pop up.
this 10-15 seconds freeze happens every single time apps FC.
within 2 days, happens 5 times. once is brower, 3 times is hancent sms, one more time is apex launcher.
generally things are snappier and animations are smoother in ics,
but all these longs temporary freezes during force close are annoying.
i'm using XWLPF firmware download from intratech thread.
is this a common issue in ICS that i have to live with?
or there is a fix for this?

Not a general issue on ICS as far as I know.
Have you already wiped cache partition (and Dalvik cache) in recovery mode?
Maybe you have to do factory reset.

I did wipe dalvic cache.
Oh well, I just wipe cache and dalvic again. Let see how it goes.
You mean I'm the only one facing this?
Have you encounter any force close in ics?
It instantly pops up a force close notification?
Mine freezes awhile only got pop up appear,
That's an ICS feature I assume. Because the other day I saw this video of SGS2 GB vs ICS and this issue appeared there. Although GB starightaway asked, either to close or report.
Did you wipe when you flashed ics. And wipe means wipe code using dialer.
Cache wipe is not a wipe.
ICS freeze when apps FC

Ray,
You are definitely not the only one facing this issue.
Ever since I upgraded my Galaxy Note to stock ICS 4.0.3 I had the exact same issue.
Have you had any luck with a factory wipe.
I was about to do the same, but was wondering whether it made any sense.
Thanks

its longer have long force close delay bug.
instantly can dismiss when fc occurs.
Stuck with stock ICS

Hi Ray,
Thanks for the feedback.
I did a full reset some time ago (I mean wiping all internal memory and interal SDcard through use of dialer code).
No help there.
Unfortunately, I am stuck on stock ICS ROM because of stupid Good Entrerprises app I need to have on my phone because of work. This app does not play nice with rooted devices.
May decide to root my note anyway. Flash a custom ROM and then permanently unroot it.... Not looking forward to the hassle though.

[Q] Random Force Closing

So I haven't found anyone with the same issues I'm having. My text messaging randomly freezes then force closes, and so does the Facebook app. I haven't noticed a trend in when it actually happens, just seems to be random. I originally thought it might have been a ROM issue, I was running SuperNexus, but I flashed to Ktoonsez AOKP and there was no change. I've wiped the dalvik three times, and still nothing and I really don't want to wipe my phone or get a new one. Any solutions?

LOL Oops, forgot to mention that. I did wipe it then, didn't fix anything. I'm starting to think there might be something wrong with the hardware, and I'm really hoping it's not it. I haven't done anything to hurt it.

Trying clearning data for those two apps.
A full wipe consists of the system, data, cache, dalvik cache, and running the kernel cleaning script ( optional but useful in my opinion) did u do all those things before installing this new ROM? If not try it and reflash the ROM.
