Why is it on xperia ray development is so dead?...so less custom roms? and without own forum of QnA, general discussion , themes and app? ...
Or is it the phone still new?
Any developer working on new rom? or full functioning miui?...i hope so ..

Is the third newest phone of Xperia Family..it isn't?
So the development just getting started? or this device wont get a good support from XDA?
Last time i use an X8 , a great phone supported by so many developer, i hope Xperia ray too
I also hope to more developers to develope roms for ray
Had to wait around a month before somebody at XDA decided to do a forum for the Ray, but they kind of messed up the logic of the tree structure. Just do not get why there is no section about themes and apps... Saw lot of ray owners posting the Arc section. (resolution is the same, would make sense to put them together).
As per MIUI there is a 99% working here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1301406

THen can i use their ARc ROM and copy those libs and modules and replace it?
but still some bugs here
What doesn't work
Taking Screenshots with MIUI application (menu + volume down)
Flashlight when taking photo's (torch app works)
Google maps => to test if it still drains the battery
wifi tethering => it loads, but I can't connect my portable, to be tested by others.. usb tethering works for me
????
There is active developement for the ray
See this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1356685

Thanks Blackwatch! ..cool!...Maybe you could request to separate Ray Forum from Mini pro , active? ...Most of the ppl in XDA dunno that there is a Ray forum..
Other: Thanks for the useful information.......
I dunno how to multi-quote =3=, Aha......
I also think the Ray should have it's own forum or at least be paired with the Arc forum, since it's basically a smaller Arc with the same hardware.
The Minis and Active are inferior devices.

Wrong. The arc and ray have completely different hw. I know because I have them both. The screen and colour is like 1000x better on the ray. I have never known an LCD screen with so much detail. The arc has a really weird bright tint to it so black looks gray as where black looks black on the ray. Also if they were the same also the camera would have red eye reduction flash like the arc but it don't as the camera and led is different also the CPU is different model. Arc uses snapdragon and we use qaulcomm. Also where the arc s has also different hardware by the slightest it would cause many to end up bricking devices because people like yourself (no offence) thinking it has the same hardware. I looked into this when I first got my arc s and noticed massive differences. I personally think the ray is in the right section with the mid range small screened devices. And the reason it had a desperate sub forum is because it is different to the mini devices. Not only that we already have the Neo, pro, and arc s in our forum and it would only confuse people with which rom is which for who and where and to much clutter. Also for the hw side if things again. The ray has two capacitive buttons and a front facing camera as to also a different s1boot model. You can check by going into a store with a display model of the arc and going into the service menu. I hope this explains things a bit for you guys and also I will say some of my info may not be all correct but its just what I have read up on some sites and circuit manuals.

the difference is in the screen sizes, touch screen, camera....

Zeus - Xperia Play (r800)
Mogami - all the rest 10 devices (Arc, Neo, Ray, etc....)

Please, someone who knows tell us something related on how the 3.0.8 kernel would be worth uprgrading, more useful or helpful for ICS. If we have enough good reasons, we can start a petition @ www.change.org

Give me a one good reason now why would sony listen to this petition and upgrade 2011 series more(yeah I am happy & grateful that we got 4.0.4,not all the companies were generous to upgrade their whole 2011 lineup like Sony did) when they got 2012 models to develop & upgrade ?
And some manufacturers, shaming none <here'slookingatyoumoto> didn't even give gb to similar spec devices <defy original>, at least Sony is dev friendly, the hardware is common stuff and we have sources of camera and radio, and unlocked bootloader.

Yeah, I am very greatful too, I am just asking there why the 3 kernel is better than this or if we would have any benefits of upgrading. I am not asking whether they'll listen to us or not. XDA is a very big and powerful community. We (in some cases) represent the advanced users of their products. For me, if we have good reasons and Sony listens to us. I'll appreciate Sony very seriously.

Simple our phones are getting old now,Sony corporation is a business not a non profit organization mate.In xda dev's make stuff at their own free time & most are non profit too.
All comes to dollar bills mate, besides now 2011 series is getting replaced little by little with 2012 series.
ST-Ericsson advertised their NovaThor U8500 (that is running on Xperia 2012 line) with ICS and kernel 3.0.8
i think there is a big chance that the Xperia 2012 phones will get ICS with kernel 3.0.8
Xperia 2011 are old news, they got ICS 4.0.4 so i don`t think Sony will update them further
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRewmDBkR8U
Indeed, it's not a non profit, but since they have the 3.0.8 kernel ready for some devices, it won't be pain for sony to use it for the 2011 line, I mean they are pro developers there with sources, equipment, it'll be a piece of cake for them to port.
Also they officially replied that they won't be upgrading, I saw it on sony's official blog. Nobody here said anything about this kernel though, if it is worth upgrading. Only pesimistic comments that this is impossible to happen.

No no no no no no! WAIT!!!!! :banghead:

Sorry to dissapoint you Shadow.... im from the arc thread, and according to FXP who is in charge of the cm development for the 2011 line up it will take aproximately 6 months to port the 3.0 kernel.... and besides Sony promised us 18 months of upgrades, Jelly bean was included in that, when (fake) rumors came that the facebook representative from sony uk said the 2011 line up wouldnt get jelly bean... they said it wasnt true, and now they say the wont update us? seems like they were toying with us, the only reason they actually gave us ics ( a really ****ty one with no much improvement from the gb sony rom) was because they were being presured by the 18 months of upgrades statement.
Yesterday a moderator from Sony team answered me at the official forum. About the Kernel 3.x
"Platform decisions made out of a complex number of parameters, involving things such as performance, price, component availability, timing etc.
When it comes to the kernel, we did actually investigate to release the 2011 products on a new kernel, but we found out it would have delayed the much desired SW releases since it takes time to trim a kernel to a stable state. We have also done a lot of patches to the kernel that we would need to migrate and that would have delayed the SW upgrades even more. It was simply a prioritization decision. For the new 2012 products we use a new kernel.
For more information and further questions regarding these things, please head over to our developer pages at http://developer.sonymobile.com/ ."

A big hello to all fellow Sola users and all our great developers! Yeah, that's right, a great guy, Gabriel Stevan, has already ported Xperia S ICS to our Sola. I found him on Antutu where I saw his Sola running ICS and scoring around some whopping 6k @ 810MHz and around 7k @ 1.6GHz :-o I connected with him on Facebook and he told me that he had ported ICS but was unable to upload it due to poor internet speeds I'm sure many of you would love to have it but it is totally up to him. I don't know if he is here on XDA or not but it was a wonderful news so I couldn't resist sharing it with you all.
However, with the official update nearby, getting a ported firmware hardly makes sense but I sincerely do think that we must applaud his great work.

I think you're right :good::laugh:
Sharing my thoughts on this alleged port, which would be great if true.
Well, I don't know the size of sola roms, but if the ROM is 200MB, and let's say he has a 64 kb ISDN connection or whatever, the upload would take about 7 hours. That ROM would finish uploading while he is at work/school one day. So if he managed to download all the framework, source and tools to make this happen (which would take about 15-24 hours I guess, in this case), he would also be proud and eager enough to share his work by uploading it.
I tink we're talking proof or gtfo here.
It would be possible to almost clean port an Xperia P build to the U, because hardware wise theh are mostly the same, apart from the RAM in the P.

About Nexus Phone, i understand that there are peoples who likes pure Android experience. But it is truly for enthusiasts who are willing to add any feature by himself. For casual user though, if you already have satisfying experience with some maker's interface/functionality (Small Apps or Smart Action), the Nexus is lacking though.. But that's just my opinion..

Sadly I can't keep it, it's a pain that I could never try Android 4.2, and lots of roms for Ray which I should give a try. I'm happy and I bought my Sola, waiting for amazon 2 ship it, but sadly realized that Sola has almost no development. Only rethemed roms by noobs, a miui port, and the FXP cm9 which is buggy as hell and lots of things not working. But I think Sola is great enough to use without custom roms. Sony promised JB so I ain't got no worries.
As we know Sony has decided not to upgrade to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Xperia U and Sola. It included, however, in the list Xperia J (which has a much lower hardware) and the Go (that has a hardware identical to the two above). We do not agree, it is not right.More we are, better it is: we sign this petition!!!
Linnk sign: http://www.activism.com/it_IT/petizione/vogliamo-jelly-bean-per-xperia-u-e-sole/41354
I read this too and i dont think that they can let behing two devices such as U and Sola with less than a few months and the same hardware as the ones that are getting the new upgrade next year. I was thinking in sonyericsson xperia play that was decided that ICS wont be upgrated on this device and a few months sony realease a beta of it, but in that casa was because the playstation device popularity was on it. I don´t think this will be the case with xperia U & Sola.
Can any one tell me if It is going to be possible install the upgrade to Jelly Bean from Xperia P or Go to the Xperia U & Sola??
Guys, I think that Blogger is lost in drugs, because if Sony ever release jelly bean for p and go, they definitely will release for u and sola because all four shares the same riogrande code. Even if they don't want to make official, we can make it work it with source code.

Tapatalked !
Its a group come on. So somebody might work in anonumous here in the forum?
I'm not an owner of any of those phones,I own a 2011 series device, but i know how you feel, they said the same lie about 2011 line, and then, they announced that ****ty Xperia E phone,2010 spec'd which will come with Jellybean. This is the global petition (in english) for upgrading your phones to Jellybean. http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/jellybean-update-for-xperia-u-and-xperia-sola.html
I signed the global one, the other one is in italian.
Sony seems not interested in porting jelly bean for U and Sola, its silly they cant make it work on these phones - this ROM is made by google for every phone.
"Sony Mobile We are sorry about this inconvenience.
The quality of Xperia’s software experience is dependent on a number of factors including: screen resolution, hardware platform and RAM. In the case of Xperia go, this combination came together in a way that meant the user experience running JB was not adversely affected.
Unfortunately, in the case of Xperia tipo, Xperia miro , Xperia U and Xperia sola this wasn’t the case – so we made the decision to keep them on Ice Cream Sandwich.-Francis."
So,because of the phone resolution they can't upgrade it to JB...Hmm,i say that they should make phones only with 128x128 resolution, with that resolution, they surely can update to any version of Android.

I'd say that there's need to worry,Xperia P will be upgraded, and the devs will port Jellybean from Xperia P to Xperia U and Sola
But I need unlocked bootloader,and I can't unlock it.

Not possible because of triple buffering and someother things that needs to be implented into kernel.

guys, let's keep this topic alive! We are already at 285 signatures: D
Both phones here have the same price.
I like the looks of both phones, my hands arent big. I like J big screen, im ok with 3.5 but what worries me that its 16:9 aspect ratio, wich means its longer and less wider then analog 3.5 inch screen size phones (iphone, galaxy ace).
J doesnt have such good camera as i see in reviews and only 1ghz CPU.
Despite the fact that U doesnt have mSD expansion slot, im ok with that, if i need more gbs i might just use OTG cable with usb stick.
So what is your suggestion?
maybe some of you already had expierience with both phones?
how is performance of both phones compared to each other? video playback? dvix video playback (with decoders installed)?
Go for Xperia j. At least the chip set has sufficient sources for devs to port the latest os. Users like me who are using Xperia p/u/go/sola are struggling to get a working jellybean from coz of poor support from the chipset maker St Ericsson. So if u care about having the latest os go for Xperia j but if u want a better camera and display and an extra core go for Xperia u

Xperia J for the development love it will get!
Odp: Xperia U or Xperia J?
J's screen is so bad

Check gsm arena user comments ... i've read that many users are complaining of lag after update to JB in case of xperia j.
Go for xperia j you will get official jellybean along with xloud bravia engine that won't present in custom jb roms...
Go for xperia U. Im using it and am loving it. First off its much better looking than J. The LED bar at the bottom really adds to its beauty. Also the specs of U are much better than that of J. You will have trouble running even slightly heavy applications and games on the J

That was to be expected of a single core 1 Ghz phone with an adreno 200 GPU. My 3 year old xperia x10 had the same specs and I had trouble running GB on it
R: Xperia U or Xperia J?
I suggest to avoid xperia, Sony made many phones but with poor software imho

thanks for the comments,
altough i still do not hear strong points for xperia J.
As i see ICS from JB isnt much different, so OS isnt an issue if its not older then ICS
What about 3.5 inch screen? how does it feel comparing to iphone or ace or any other 3.5?

Leave Xperia U/J and get Xperia go.
On Xperia U you will get dual core while Xperia J you will get latest OS. But on Xperia go you get both and extra! Waterproof and durable phone!

I suggest you to wait a little. Collect money and buy Xperia go. Atleast Xgo have brighter future get JB update.

If you are happy with ICS then i would suggest HTC ONE V.It has more development than XU.
Get HTC desire X.. You can buy it from eBay at cheaper prices or HTC Amaze 4g old but better specs and looks and development. U can also get Xperia P for same price.
Talking of eBay prices only

Shipping costs and warranty is diffeerent
Now another question, have any of you used LG L7? how does it compare to Xperia J?
go for U, dont just get a phone because of jelly bean. ICS is so good enough. i have U, and my brother has J, and believe me or not his phone is so slow compare to mine.
U. J looks bad and is slow

J, just for Jelly Bean, anything is way smoother.
