Please, someone who knows tell us something related on how the 3.0.8 kernel would be worth uprgrading, more useful or helpful for ICS. If we have enough good reasons, we can start a petition @ www.change.org
Let us know. The only thing that I've heard of is that it'll improve deep sleep.

Give me a one good reason now why would sony listen to this petition and upgrade 2011 series more(yeah I am happy & grateful that we got 4.0.4,not all the companies were generous to upgrade their whole 2011 lineup like Sony did) when they got 2012 models to develop & upgrade ?
And some manufacturers, shaming none <here'slookingatyoumoto> didn't even give gb to similar spec devices <defy original>, at least Sony is dev friendly, the hardware is common stuff and we have sources of camera and radio, and unlocked bootloader.

Give me one good reason of why 2011 line is not worth upgrating. Don't forget that you hold in your hands a powerful computer which always can be better.
Yeah, I am very greatful too, I am just asking there why the 3 kernel is better than this or if we would have any benefits of upgrading. I am not asking whether they'll listen to us or not. XDA is a very big and powerful community. We (in some cases) represent the advanced users of their products. For me, if we have good reasons and Sony listens to us. I'll appreciate Sony very seriously.

Simple our phones are getting old now,Sony corporation is a business not a non profit organization mate.In xda dev's make stuff at their own free time & most are non profit too.
All comes to dollar bills mate, besides now 2011 series is getting replaced little by little with 2012 series.
ST-Ericsson advertised their NovaThor U8500 (that is running on Xperia 2012 line) with ICS and kernel 3.0.8
i think there is a big chance that the Xperia 2012 phones will get ICS with kernel 3.0.8
Xperia 2011 are old news, they got ICS 4.0.4 so i don`t think Sony will update them further
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRewmDBkR8U
Indeed, it's not a non profit, but since they have the 3.0.8 kernel ready for some devices, it won't be pain for sony to use it for the 2011 line, I mean they are pro developers there with sources, equipment, it'll be a piece of cake for them to port.
Also they officially replied that they won't be upgrading, I saw it on sony's official blog. Nobody here said anything about this kernel though, if it is worth upgrading. Only pesimistic comments that this is impossible to happen.

That's just stupid!!!!! Why? Because the reasons are stupid and in fact the only reason is deep sleep. No offence, but I started this thread to gather info for that kernel and get worth reasons before starting a petition. Therefore, please remove it, before Sony starts laughing at us! Please...

I asked some devs like mikegapinski and nobodyAtall and they told me we need SEMC patches for any other kernel above 2.6.32 (this means it's not easy for Sony too), only the last number can be upgraded like 2.6.32.50 as Polish Team's kernel.
Still waiting reply to know the advantages of 3.0.8 kernel, since nobody knows here. Even though I think a changelog is available @ kernel.org.

Sorry to dissapoint you Shadow.... im from the arc thread, and according to FXP who is in charge of the cm development for the 2011 line up it will take aproximately 6 months to port the 3.0 kernel.... and besides Sony promised us 18 months of upgrades, Jelly bean was included in that, when (fake) rumors came that the facebook representative from sony uk said the 2011 line up wouldnt get jelly bean... they said it wasnt true, and now they say the wont update us? seems like they were toying with us, the only reason they actually gave us ics ( a really ****ty one with no much improvement from the gb sony rom) was because they were being presured by the 18 months of upgrades statement.
Yesterday a moderator from Sony team answered me at the official forum. About the Kernel 3.x
"Platform decisions made out of a complex number of parameters, involving things such as performance, price, component availability, timing etc.
When it comes to the kernel, we did actually investigate to release the 2011 products on a new kernel, but we found out it would have delayed the much desired SW releases since it takes time to trim a kernel to a stable state. We have also done a lot of patches to the kernel that we would need to migrate and that would have delayed the SW upgrades even more. It was simply a prioritization decision. For the new 2012 products we use a new kernel.
For more information and further questions regarding these things, please head over to our developer pages at http://developer.sonymobile.com/ ."

basically Sony devs are already testing internally ICS build for Xperia S...
and the good news for kernel devs like me is: 3.0.x kernel
as for overall experience, the build looks polished but there are still some bugs which the devs are sorting out...
basically i posted this here so that the users know that the Sony devs are indeed working on ICS for this device, so dont worry abt some delay in updates...

I've had my xperia S for over 2 months and haven't see any additions to the developement community. I'm really starting to consider getting rid of this device as the Roms available for it are lacking and the stock ones perform awful. If it wasn't for the CM9 release from FXP I would have parted ways a long time ago.
Hopefully we start seeing more developers jump board on this beautiful piece of hardware, but I'm starting to think the odds are slim to none..

Ics has been released on June 22. Thus, during the last 2 months, we have had:
- the official upgrade to ics
- not less than ics custom kernels with cwm recovery
- three custom roms based on stock ics
- cm 9.0, now stable
- cm 10, not ready but promising
Of course, nothing comparable to the nexus scene. But if you got a phone which has not been thought for the modding, you should not complain with the development community.

and we will get AOKP as soon as FXP Team releases CM device sources.
i think as of now we have enough custom roms, if we have 20-30 custom roms, man my phone wouldnt stop on flashing ,
and once the fxp team releases the cm sources, then we will have additional custom rom , (like semc debranding been waiting for this )
I am still on a stock ICS rom and I can't complain one bit.
The phone does what it says on the box, even my smartwatch works perfectly.
If you "expect" more than you have and are just going to complain because others are not making ROMS to suit your needs, then please... by all means sell it and get soemthing else.

Hi everybody,
At the 3rd of September, Sony releases the binaries for xperia s to support JBQ's Xperia S experiment.
So I was really happy about that, coz I thought that jelly bean is near.
I thought that now, that when they have the binaries and drivers, the only thing to do for Google is to implement these drivers into android source code, because vanilla Android doesn't need so much configuration, etc.
So my question how long you think it takes that we have vanilla on our xperia s?

Actually, AOSP development seems very slow, at least from what I've been seeing on the git. Don't expect the sony bins to speed that project up

If that's true we will have to get a new announcement before November right?
i think they left out the Sola and the U as they want to develop something special for the floating touch and the LED bar respectively. Anyway Go and P which has the exact same specs is going to receive it.
(Tries to think positive )
K900, I really want to believe you, however "due course" is an incredibly vague statement. Could be soon, as you said November, could be by end of year December near holiday season. Or it could be after their newer flagship phones receive the update. Sony should just say yes it will roll out in 2012 or no it will not roll out till 2013, I would be happier with that statement than "due course"
Just my two cents
Love my Acro S
Be positive guys
It will be much easier to port JB From P to U and Sola(Same Chipsets)
Hope that Sony Will Release It Soon.(Diwali)

awesome dissapointment by sony
might be ust me but i dont expect much from a JellyBean update from sony themselves anyway, look at all the bugs that made when they gave us ICS. Its that we got XDA developers to fix stock firmwares, remove all the bloatware and optimize them cause otherwise the stock ROMS would be pure thrash.
the upside: Camera drivers, with that CM10 should be near usable as a daily driver.
kinda funny that there was another blog posted at that link btw, Sony not updating 2011 devices to Jellybean? I mean c'mon, they are 1 year old, they seem to drop support for their devices afther 1 year or something. So that might aswell mean that afther next year the Xperia S/P/Arc etc wont get updates either. lets just hope this isnt the case.
I think they trying to do something special for both Sola and U. Both have unique features that the rest do not have.

Sony is f**king kidding!!!!!
http://www.android.com/kitkat/
The new version of Android has been announced & it says that it will be supported to run on low RAM (512MB), single core devices as well!
http://au.ibtimes.com/articles/504575/20130909/android-4-kitkat-os-top-devices-features.htm
Post your thoughts about this.
I've heard a lot about its so called optimisation for lower end devices and I'm really praying that it is true!
Whilst the dev community here have done an excellent job in keeping the 2011 Xperia line fresh, it would be just awesome if it doesn't feel like our devices are being stretched to their maximum potential to run as is with JB.
Another 'hope' I have is that with the better support for low end...our batteries might just stop being blown away like a butterfly in a hurricane.
(Ok they say hope oft deceives, but one can only be optimistic)
I guess the new kernel will greatly improve the battery life & it says that there is optimization for running sensors with a very low battery consumption. :fingers-crossed:
@ak070
did you checked this video:
http://www.xda-developers.com/andro...drm-partition-backup-script-xda-developer-tv/
that guy told that Sony Ericsson devices probarly get no 4.4 only Sony Devices !
but we shall see
Lol! He didn't say that 2011 Xperias won't get 4.4. He said that 2011 Xperias won't be able to backup their DRM partition using that tool.
Here it is!
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/easily-backup-the-ta-partition-on-your-sony-xperia-device/
We'll see what happens...
Even without 'official' support, I'd be optimistic about getting 4.4 on our Xperias, we do have a really good dev. community here.
We've got 4.3 roms here that are being worked on (CM 10.2 - ok its not ready for daily use but its being worked on) so hopefully when 4.4 comes we'll get the same!
we can use custom 4.4 roms but we are losing the advantages of ROM by sticking to same hardware since 2011...
it's good to have latest OS on older devices but we won't enjoy maximum of it ... in future we need up-gradable mobiles like assembled pc's ( really man )
It says its optimized to run on devices with old hardware (especially) so I guess if we happen to come up with a 4.4 ROM, it will be smoother than JB but obviously it will need latest kernel sources.
I really wish that custom configuration device concept comes true...
If this News is true den we Can Have Kitkat as smooth as GB..
Then it ll be great

Questions
Will it be available for HTC Wildfire S [512 RAM][600MHz Single Core] ?
Man, it will be available for everyone, sources are posted at google source, it depends on manufacturer or developer if it will be out for your device as an image or flashable zip. If it is a low activity device then it is clear that update will not be released for your device.
