Loving the Lumia alot, but 1 or 2 little niggles - chief of which is that the screen won't stay on when plugged in which is very annoying.
It can be done as some of the nightclock apps keep the screen on, but I don't want a clock screen, just the start screen. There doesn't seem to be an app for this and I don't want to jailbreak the phone - anyone found a solution?
There's no separate app for this, and there's no setting, unfortunately.
Generally apps that need the screen on (like satnav) will not let the phone sleep, but that's not a system-wide setting.
It is annoying when I listen to music in my car.

ok, some info, i'm coming from the captivate (SGS1), on that phone if you were in a full screen app, or the camera was active, the screen wouldn't turn off regardless of the time out setting.
on this phone i have the timeout on 30 seconds with the stay on mode enabled for when i'm looking at the screen, this works really well except the above doesn't work, when the camera is on or the app is full screen it still times out. this becomes REALLY annoying when doing things like google hangouts as it hangs up the call when the screen turns off.
am i missing a setting? how can i keep the screen on when the app is full screen (games, movies, etc)?
thanks
Until my S4, I have pretty much been a Moto phone owner. I did have a brief fling with a Thunderbolt but that phone was god awful.
Whenever I docked any of my moto devices (D1, Bionic, RAZR MAXX) depending on what kind of dock it went in, the phones would just enter the correct dock mode. I had it set that when in my desktop dock Alarm Clock Plus would come to the front and be the active application. When in car mode, G Maps would become the active app.
I have purchased the official Samsung multimedia desktop dock as well as the official Samsung vehicle dock. When I dock to either of them, nothing special happens at all. The phone will light up the lock screen when it sees the power applied, but aside from that, 30 seconds later the screen turns back off no matter what app is running (exceptions being navigation (not just maps) and alarm clock plus. If in either docks, something like Slacker will run fine but the screen turns off at the defined times. This is not how things worked with any of my motos. This is a rather annoying problem especially with the car dock as I am constantly going to fiddle with the screen to get G Maps back to being visible. I don't like the idea of having to manually change the screen timeout every time I use the phone in my car as I *know* one time I will forget to turn the screen timeout back to normal and when I reach to use my phone the battery will be dead.
Is there a way to get the screen to stay on when docked? Is there a way to have a default app launch when docking in a specific dock? I know I could have disabled whatever sammy program manages the docks, but I have not disabled anything which has dock in the name (not that I even see one).
I have searched the forums, but my lame searches did not turn up anything.
I have hunted and hunted, but can't figure this one out. On my Note 2 I could go to the stock Samsung calendar settings and turn off "Notifications While the Screen Is Off." However, on the S4 I do not see the option to turn these notifications off. I have tried different roms, etc.
I need to keep notifications on so that they sit in my notification bar when I turn the screen on (so, I can't completely turn off notifications). However, I don't want my screen turning on every 15 minutes that I have an appointment (this drains the battery pretty quick).
Anyone know what I'm talking about or what to do about it? By the way, I would go with the stock Google calendar, but like Samsung's much more.
Thanks in advance for any help.
One more try ... anyone have any suggestions? Thanks a lot.

Did you ever figure this out? I'm having the same problem. I get the notification, but it keeps the screen on until I acknowledge. I don't usually notice until my pocket gets really warm, then I realize the screen's been on the whole time.
Has anyone else experienced this. If my jacket or shirt cuff gets even a little wet it turns the screen on and starts pressing buttons like crazy. I disabled gestures to try to prevent the screen from turning on but no matter what I do the screen will turn on by swiping. A slightly damp or wet cuff, or accidentally sliding across many other surfaces causes the screen to turn on. Is there a way to disable this? I feel like it is a source of annoyance that my screen is always turning on and off all the time unless i'm wearing a shirt that doesn't touch the screen at all. Super annoying.
This is my only major complaint with the watch thus far. Please help!
Thanks!
Jeremy
It's only 1 button, but I turned off motion and the screen only comes on if I press the button or get a notification
I also have had my motions off

Under Settings -> Motions -> I have both Wake-up gestures & Mute/pause off/deselected.
Of note I have the clock always on (Settings -> Style -> Clocks -> Clock always on) so the watch shows a grayed out simple time clock when screen is off. I just checked to see if the watch face will stay off if I turn off the "always on" and this seems to solve the issue.
However, to be honest I really like having the grayed out time showing because honestly it IS a watch and I want to be able to easily glance down and check the time. I still easily get a days battery out of the watch with the clock showing and I get annoyed if I have to "turn my watch on" every time I want to know the time and lets be honest, the motions thing sucks and I just feel like an idiot shaking my wrist around trying to get the clock to show....
Does anyone know of a work around for this?

I totally agree! There should be an option to tick under settings to keep the touchscreen inactive while "Screen Always On" is active.
And it is supper annoying!
So I've noticed when using smart view to cast to a TV screen, the phone screen will turn to a low power mode, that says smart view, press power or swipe to turn on. My concern is that this image causes image persistence once smart view is done, and could eventually lead to burn in. Does anyone know if this screen moves, like the Always on Display images do; or if there is a way to disable this screen without disabling the screen staying potentially awake the whole time. It may not be possible, but I wanted to see if anyone had any experience. The only possible workaround I've come up with is to use the android native casting feature (via nova and a widgets activity) and perhaps the following app.

I'm finding that mine doesn't always enter the power saving while mirroring which I wish it would when I want it to. If I turn the screen off while mirroring, then ask Google voice to play next song or something the screen mirroring wakes up and display on the external screen and puts the power save mode on the phone which is what I'd expect.
I wish mine did this without having to turn the screen off and the wake it up with voice. If I wake it up with the power button then screen mirror comes on b I t so does the normal screen on the phone.
Maybe we can swap ha ha.
Anyone else not getting the power save option when mirroring? I need to turn the screen off then ask Google to do something for the power save to work. Turning the screen back on doesn't help, just asking Google voice seems to bring it back. I was hoping it would just time out and start automatically. Samsung don't seem to understand their own options, with them telling me that it's not possible until I pointed out it's a software feature if their phone then they went silent.
