Hi, just manage to get my 8.9 wifi. Can any pro explain to me how I going to backup my rom before I perform any rom flash.
sammobile do not have my stock rom so I cannot use odin to flash back.
If you want the backup of a clean ROM(without any data) do the following:
1. Flash CWM using ODIN
2. Create a backup in CWM
3. Do a full wipe\factory reset
4. Create another backup in CWM (Your clean ROM)
5. Restore the first backup

So my phone is a little messed up so I want to completely restore it to factory settings. Just want to make sure I am doing it correctly with the steps outlines below:
1. Back-Up current ROM/kernel with Nandroid back-up.
2. Back-Up all apps with Titanium Back-Up
3. Delete /data
4. Follow this guide to restore to original state by downloading the correct files and flashing via Odin: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113928&highlight=stock+roms
So is it going to be okay if I wipe /data and then flash with Odin? I want a completely new fresh installation, and then I can recover everything and root again at the end.
I think you forget doing the wipes before flashing the new clean rom with Odin.

Well isn't that why I should delete /data?

CWM recovery backup and restore = Nandroid backup
Clockworkmod is a 'custom recovery' made by xda member koush. Every phone had a recovery partition designed so that if the user messes up a ROM installation, they can recover their phone. CWM is a modified recovery installed into the recovery partition that allows advanced control over ROM recovery, installation and much more.
Features of CWM include:
- NANDroid Backup, This allows you to completely back up your existing ROM with all its files, data and apps
- Restore Backup, Restores a previous backup (obviously...)
- ROM installation, Allows you to install a ROM contained inside a flashable .zip file
- Wipe data/Factory reset, completely erases all of your data contacts, apps etc, leaving your phone 'as new'
Amongst others...
How to install CWM
If you have already rooted your phone using the CF-root Kernel, then you already have CWM! If not, then just install the kernel linked to above in the 'how to root your phone' section
How to make a NANDroid backup using CWMBackups are important because they allow you to restore your ROM incase flashing goes wrong, or you phone starts playing up and displaying wierd bugs.
To make a backup, you need to boot into CWM recovery (done through the 'cwm' app installed onto your phone when you flash the cf-root kernel). Then, you need to navigate down to 'backup/restore' using the volume keys, and select it using the home key. From here, just click 'backup' and you are all set! Leave your phone make the backup (its takes some time) and then just reboot when it tells you its finished. To restore your backup, do the same but instead of clicking backup, click 'restore' instead. Choose which backup you would like to restore and leave the phone to do its magic. Done.
Thanks for your very precise reply.

Hey all. I'm newbie. I use this phone sgs2 for 1 year. I see this AOKP Build 4 CM10 and I wanted to install.
I never root my phone before and always use stock rom. (Now it's 4.0.3)
I learned my kernel version(CF-Root v5.4 - I9100XWLP7/LP8/LP9) and root'ed it with odin.
My supersu and cwm is installed and working.
Downloaded the zip file for AOKP CM10 and learned how i will flash it but i have some questions now.
1.) What is this "efs backup" stuff??? Is this necessary??
2.) I bought a Navigation App, will i lost it?? or how i keep it?
3.) May I install this room over my 4.0.3 I9100XWLP7 root'ed stock rom??
4.) May I get a backup before install this cm10 rom?
1.) What is this "efs backup" stuff??? Is this necessary?? Yes
2.) I bought a Navigation App, will i lost it?? or how i keep it? not if you backup data using titanium backup first
3.) May I install this room over my 4.0.3 I9100XWLP7 root'ed stock rom?? Definately not you must wipe delvik cache, cache and and somethingels
4.) May I get a backup before install this cm10 rom? Yes backup everything efs app data first if a rom messes up this is your savior
1. EFS is a partition which contains information about phone such as IMEI, S/N. It would be good if you make its backup.
2. No. You will need to reinstall it from Google Play.
3. Yes. After flashing custom ROM you will need to do a factory reset. So backup your contacts and SMS first.
4. Yes, in CWM: backup and restore > backup to external (or internal) sdcard.
sooo, if the efs partition is necessary. Is that CWM Backup getting it?
Now I just need 1. Backup for apps(titanium backup) 2. Backup for efs and rom(that i used) (CWM Backup)
Am I Clear ?
just to be sure download ktool from playstore and make a second backup then it separated should you need to restore.
Dear all thise who are using custom rom here is the app called migrate which backup all your app data (whatsapp, alaram, settings) etc
After backup you can flash that zip from twrp
I have tried and got all my app with data
App features:
Backup:
1. All apps
2. All app data
3. All app permissions
4. SMS messages
5. Call logs
6. Contacts
7. Screen DPI
8. Default keyboard option.
... and restore in your new ROM in a unique way.
First backup everything. Then flash your new ROM. Now (surprise) flash the backup zip file(s)! Yes, a part of the restoration process occurs via TWRP recovery. Make sure to root your new custom ROM with Magisk.
Once everything is flashed, boot up your new ROM. You'll get a notification to continue the restoration process. Grant root access and relax until everything is restored.
App link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/detailsid=balti.migrate
App is under development but working fine
This will be most useful to those who wanna change your rom
Without losing internal storage data
Give a try thanks.....???
