Hey,
So I'm on my 3rd E3D. htc unlocked with hoot 1.5 until team evil /devnull releases an hoot 1.5 workaround.
I've used and reinstalled 3 different roms now. I've noticed that I'm having issues with my touch screen. When I try to hit the t key, the e3d only registers an r or y key. I tried switching to the default keyboard. Same thing. In the USA today app, I can't hit the sports section...
I've had this issue on MIUI, olymupus and blackened roms.
Only fix has been to pull the battery and reset the phone. But I'm getting tired of doing this 4-5x a day.
Any ideas?
Maybe try flashing back to stock, if its giving u issues on stock it might be hardware and not ur ROM

Same issues.
I have the Total equipment protection. I'm unlocked HTC method. Any advice on how to turn it in? How do I file a claim?
found this...

seemed to work for me so far, no more having to turn off screen or rotate to get touch press recognizes...will report back later to confirm if it really helped
Thanks for the response. But its not a calibration issue.
Half the keys on the keyboard aren't responding, and its consistently the same keys. I'm watching as my phone go bezerk right now. Some how its browsing the web, then selected the messages app, bounce around a webpage it opened. opened up the app drawer.
The 4 hardware keys aren't responsive.
I'd figure a virus. But I haven't even installed any software since I reloaded the default RUU (Whatever).
Local sprint store said they've seen a lot of this. When I came in and told them I had a problem with my evo3d, lady finished my sentence about the screen not working.
I'm still waiting for a replacement phone :X
I chose a HTC device because I heard they have great build quality and better support than samsung and moto.
But considering I'm getting my 4th evo in as many months. It seems pretty bad.
I am by no means rough with my phones. I kept the same iphone for 3 years with no issues. Before that, I had my treo for 2 years until I decided to get an iphone.
I'm seriously doubting staying with android/htc now. I'm tired of going back to sprint all the time to get a properly working phone.
Dude I think uve just gotten some sh*tty luck tbh. I had the moment, the transform, the evo shift, and now the 3D. My dads got the evo and used to have the transform. My moms got my old shift and used to have the transform. My bros had the moment, transform, evo, and now has the nexus S 4g. And none of us have ever had any hardware related issues at all :/ hopefully u choose to stick with Android man its a great OS. And u never know, maybe the android gods are punishing u for that failphone: p lol

I had a problem with my e3d and the screen would wig out every once in a while and i would have to lock the screen and unlock it before it started working and even then didn't work all the time. i went to the sprint store and the tech guy looked at it and basically said the battery was touching the ribbon for the screen thus causing bad stuff. so he straight up replaced the screen for free and i havent had any problems since then. hope this helps.
It's phantom pressing. I had that issue with a 4g of EVO, replaced digitizer and screen, no luck. Never did find the problem, sold it for cheap to keep from breaking it

my replacement was supposed to arrive by 3 pm today or (end of residential delivery service). Tired of going over to the sprint store because they never answer the phone. Not that I can call them anyways. Can't use the 2 key anymore on the dial pad. Hitting the capacitive? menu button somehow registers as a 7 now in dial pad.
first time this happened, it was on the day after I just had just received a replacement. It was more of a screen sensitivity issue. Sprint tech support (corporate store here in NYC) said I had installed a bad program. But eventually agreed to replace it.
this 2nd time has been much worse. besides dead keys, I also get the wigging out.
I'm just 6? months into my sprint contract. I guess if the phone still isn't in by tomorrow (couldn't pick it up till wednesday since I have a 24 hour shift tomorrow), I may just eat the ETF and try out the galaxy nexus on verizon.
Other option is the SII? or iPhone 4s. But those phones I'd be paying full price for. Plus I told myself no iOS until iPhone 5.
I like iOS, but I wanted to try android. So here I am.
Ipad1, evo3d, TP running CM7, alpha 3
Finally picked up my replacement E3D. They all remembered me since I've stopped in every single day. Asked if I called. Gave my smart ass response "I would have if my phone would allow me to dial a phone number". Even then when I dialed from work, no one ever picks up.
We went over my new phone options if phone dies again. Basically phones that are at least a year old. Evo shift, evo 4g (I think). Basically any android phone but the one I would be interested in, the samsung sII.
Well, hopefully phone lasts long enough for that phone to be an option.
Not trading to a phone I could have gotten for free or less when I bought my evo3d.
i give up. new phone won't even charge now. 3 chargers and a macbook that disables the usb port because its trying to draw too much charge.
screen works at least....

Hi guys, I could really use some help.
I've a T-Mobile G2 variant which was running a stock HTC Sense ROM. I started getting weirdness happening on it though - the home screen moving on it's own - switching between pages and back again, pressing any buttons apart from the power button just switched the home screens to the thumbnail view. Dialogue boxes refused to let me press the okay or cancel buttons, and texting became impossible - key presses deciding for themselves what they thought I was pressing. Rebooting the phone made little difference, and I tried re-calibrating several times, but this only helped for a short time before it all went again.
Just before Christmas I decided to flash a new ROM, deciding upon the Froyo 2.2.1 final from Elelinux. I have the same problem though, and it's right annoying.
Has anyone else experienced a similar problem?
Apps I currently have installed are:
Google Sky Map
Jewels
Google Scoreboard
Shazam
Sky+
Superuser
Terminal Emulator
WiFi Analyzer
The phone is almost 18 months old, but had been working perfectly until recently - around the same time I installed Angry Birds (which I uninstalled assuming it to be the cause).
Well i had this behavior as well. You need to change your digitizer as your screen has become unresponsive. I tried to fix it myself following the guidelines in the according thread in General and ended up breaking my camera lens.
So what i am suggesting is you get it to an HTC Repair store and let them fix it under warranty. Mine is as good as new now.
Unfortunately sounds like an issue with the digitizer in the screen, which can be repaired but isn't a simple job. The fact that touching the screen anywhere shows the preview suggests the screen is already registering a touch (hence broker digitizer). Don't spose you have an extended warranty or insurance for a replacement?
Hi there,
I've changed mine a month ago, it has cost me about 40€ and was made in 30min with the official tutorial from Htc that you can find on youtube. It was yes.. Really eaaasy ;-)
gruß,
H.
Thanks for the replies - I had hoped it would be software, although I kinda knew it would be hardware. I've got a monthish left on my contract, so I don't think it'll be in warranty, see if I can hang on without it :/
Isn't HTC giving 2 year of warranty for hardware? I've still got a year to go in mine.
mine's not from HTC - it's a T-Mobile one (albeit from a 3rd party supplier), and T-Mobile warranties are usually rubbish from my experience.
Well you won't lose anything by trying. Get in touch and bust their balls so you can get your digitizer changed. It's a hardware fault, not yours. I was treating mine very very well and still it broke after 9 months of use.
Get them to change it, it's not your fault they use crap material to make them.
from what you've said, Id say its maybe more likely to be a trackball issue, which probably doesn't make much of a difference to you, but might be slightly easier to fix

He cannot type a message because letters type themselves in, it's clearly a digitizer problem, not a trackball issue i'm afraid.
Reflashed stock T-Mobile ROM this morning - hopefully I can get to my local T-Mobile shop at lunchtime to get them to fix it. Thanks for all your help.
and then I returned. T-Mobile said there was a long processing time for repairs at the moment, and they had no loan phones I could use whilst mine was away. Did say I could upgrade early though which was nice. Spent my lunch hour trying out several new phones (including a couple of nokias, sorry). Came back with a Motorola Defy, and a still broken Hero.
So heres the story, My Mom was due for an upgrade. We researched and researched until we were about MAD. And we finally decided on the Droid x2. She finally recieved it in the mail today and we got it activated. The thing is buggy as mess. You can simply unlock the phone and it randomly brings menus, the internet browser, and apps up at will. It brings up the power off and Air plane mode options when the power button has not even been touched. Heck, it even pulls up the Calender app when you click on the Market Application. She is very dissapointed and we don't know what to do. Should she:
1. Maybe wait for an OTA that addresses these issues?
2. Do a factory reset?
3. Return the phone and get a refurb/different phone?

Return the phone and get another brand new one. There's definitely something wrong with the touch screen. You can try a factory reset first, if you like.
Indeed - Do #2 while calling Verizon for a #3 replacement. It sounds like you got a seriously screwy X2!

I think I fixed it! I read earlier on droid forums that Moto Blur is bad at memory management so I downloaded Advanced task killer and killed all the apps currently running. Since I have done that no weird things have happened.
EDIT: NEVERMIND!!! UGH..
Definitely exchange it. Sounds like you got a bad phone. The X2 should not be acting like that at all.
you still have a problem / issues
task killer is not the answer
Ok guys its all good now. I got on the phone with Verizon and they told me to take it to my local Verizon store for a replacement. After a head ache of a time with a bunch of goobers who didn't even know how to use the blasted things beside doing a factory reset we got a brand new x2. Its running like a dream with absolutely no problems. She loves it!
Thanks for your help!

I just got mine today. I had 3 droid x's that had to be exchanged due to DOA warranty replacements. They finally sent me a DX2. It would not activate. When i touched the droid it went thru the activator and constantly pushed the one key. there was no keypad on the screen. they are sending me another one. somehow i took it to the verizon store and the guy just touched it and it worked fine. Now i get it home and its laggy as hell. I think im going to send the first one back and keep the replacement. Anyone have issues with this as of yet?

Exactly what was happening to my Mom's DX2. Phone was imputing commands when the screen was not being touched. Took it up to Verizon and it worked beautifully for the guy. We waited till the manager came and she got us a replacement. Its working great.
Well i have had it up to my ears in these replacements. Im really getting to know the fedex guy. while i was seeing if anyone else had these problems the phone screen started going glitchy on me. It was blinking and went to the dialer and the browser just sitting on my desk. I think there is only one alternative to this. The customer service manager will call me tomoro to check if i have everything working. I can almost guarantee it will not be. either she exchanges it for something else with a 4.3 inch screen. they told me that it can only be exchanged for something in the same range and they offered me a vortex. I dont know how they even compare in the same universe. I think ill complain enough and go to the store and see about getting another phone, or i will just take my business over to sprint (which they can see from their store in the mall) and get a nexus or an evo. Im tired of this replace after replace bull. Anyone else have these thoughts?
So, I guess I will be returning to Sprint today to exchage my photon yet again. This will be my 3rd time taking my phone back. I upgraded from an Evo that never gave me one problem and it was my rooting/flashing/hacking guinea pig.
My first phone had a screen glitch and would look fuzzy after it warmed up from normal use. This one has been shutting down on me after it sits idle for a few minutes. I will use it for a while and it fine. I set it down and come back a few minutes later and its off and wont boot. I have to pull the battery on this thing 10 times a day. However, if I have it docked or I am using it everything is fine. I have recently flashed the new update and rooted hoping that would help but it hasnt.
Crazy to think I have had 2 phones both with problems and my buddy hasnt had a single problem with his.
Sounds like a bad batch or one heck of a coincidence. Mabe try getting Sprint store to order you a new replacement instead of getting another one from their current inventory. When the Photon works properly it's a great phone. Regardless Sprint will make it right.
Yeah, I cant complain about Sprints service so far and I do like the phone regardless of the problems I have had. I just hope the bugs get worked out and it gets as much support as the Evo. I was so disappointed with the 3D, which is why I went with the Photon.
My sister had a similar problem with the Moment, she too had it replaced 3 times, the forth one worked fine. One of my EVO's 4G had the infamous charging port disconnect/breakage issue and had to be replaced as well. So far the Photon is okay except the call bug, but thats no longer a problem after doing the steps outlined in the development section. Hope you get a good replacement.

Sounds like you need to go to another sprint store

This weekend I upgraded to the Photon 4G for $99 at Best Buy (gotta love Labour day weekend offers).
I'm moving from an HTC Evo 4G. The first problem is the worst. Since picking up the Photon 4G I have had to pull the battery 5 times as the phone refuses to wake... With the HTC if I had an issue I could reboot by holding down the power and volume button, but the Photon doesn't seem to have this feature, so I'm forced to remove the back cover and pull the battery...
I don't seem to be able to re-create the issue. Its just happens without notice... Anyone else having this issue? Is their an easier way to coax the phone back to life rather than pulling the battery?
The second issue is the screen. Every single review I have read has said that the screen is a Photon 4G strong point... I'm not convinced... Yes it is bright and vivid, but I seem to have an annoying grey criss cross pattern all over the screen. I'm not sure if its my eye's (the GF says she can see it too) but I was expecting the screen to look better than both my EVO and Xoom... This annoying grey criss cross gauze (especially visible on white backgrounds) is disappointing..
What do others think? Colour gradients also appear to band very easily, rather than being smooth.. I'm not sure if this is a result of compression in pictures tho...
Other than that, I am happy with the phone. Big improvement over the EVO 4G i had befor, just a screen I have to get used too, and this un-responsive issue to fix...
Oh, and having to get used to Motorola's Android button layout and Standard Android icon changes is a little painful at times...
Swap out for new one for wake problem. Turn brightness down to 30 percent and screen is fine. Had all top HTC phones and this beats all.....keep this phone....
Sent from my MB855 using XDA App
I get that sometimes, but fail to replicate at the store. Store employees will only recommend to wipe the phone.
The pentiles pixelation is only noticeable when your face is extremely close to screen. Its a cell phone not a tv display lol, stop holding it so close and you'll be fine! Im on my first phone with no issues yet; just to be on the safe side i would swap for a new device.

Actually, the sale has been going on for close to 3 weeks now. Sorry you are having issues, have you tried a factory reset then not install any apps (or not many) for a couple days to see if it was one of them?
An opinion......
I try to avoid the Sprint stores as much as possible. There are some knowledgeable reps out there but it is a small percentage. Most of them don't know much about the devices. Call the Sprint support number first and try troubleshooting with them. In my experience, they are better at going the distance to make the customer happy than the peeps in the stores especially if you keep on them about it.
Sounds like a swap out is needed. Good luck.
Go back to BB and try to swap it out for another one. Had my photon for about 3 weeks now and never had this issue
I have to agree it sounds like a hardware issue and merits a swap. I've had the photon 2 1/2 weeks and have only had to pull the battery once.
Mine has been freezing and needing a battery pull every day. I went through Sprint VIA phone and they sent me to the store. The Technician actually researched it and it is a know software issue that will be fixed when the next OTA software update is released. I went from the silent call issues to my phone turning off/freezing and I don't even know that its not working. Not happy at all right now
I've just got back from Best buy after my phone refused to wake up again for the second time today.... I let them try and get it turned back on again which they couldn't do without pulling the battery... Either way they immediately confirmed they'd swap it out. Until she went to pull one and realised they are all out
My replacement arrives Friday when they get restocked.... Best Buy must have sold loads since Friday because their shelf was piled pretty high when i picked mine up...
So hopefully the new one will work properly, or maybe I'm just plagued until the next OTA...
As to everyone who gave me suggestions about the screen... you were right. Turning down the screen brightness pretty much solved the issue all together and I think I am officially used to it now...
Just wish i could get my EVO 3D ringtone , Alarm and notifications on the Motorola. I grew more attached to them, than I thought

OK, I did not think that it could be my SD card causing the issues with the phone freezing up and needing a battery pull to get it back on but the Technician asked me if it was a new card or from another phone. I said It was from two or three phones ago. They said that I should format the card because the files from the older phones can cause problems such as this, after copying my photos over to the computer to be able to put back on the card afterwards of course. They had left my SD card out of the phone. So to test things, I haven't put my SD card back in since two days ago. My phone has not restarted or frozen up once. I will give it some more time and report back, but in the mean time, until there is an OTA fix, if you are using an SD card from another (previous) phone, and your having the freezing/power down/restart issues, you may want to give formatting your SD card or removing it to test if it fixes the problem a shot. Good luck, so far so good.
I've not used an SD card at all since purchasing my Photon. On the Plus side, it has not stopped working at all so far today
Had the same problem when I bought my 2nd photon this time at best buy becuase of the $99 deal.
On the 1st one i got directly from a sprint corp store, no issues at all. But this one on the 1st day I got a reboot issue. second day got the SOD. went in they had some trouble getting it on. Had to tell them to take the batt out and it went on. My problem was that they had none available. so for 3 days I waited.
Funny thig is that I wasn't getting the SOD again. Just didn't want to chance it so got another one, yesterday. Happy today.
There were no motorola photon availble in my area. So they are selling.
Good luck with yours.
OK it's not the sd card causing the issues. It's back to freezing up 1-9 times per day and then I need to do a battery pull and restart the phone. Motorola wants the phone back to repair it. This should be a great Two weeks and if the phone is not fixed, I will lose it........ For sure

Ok, if this information is correct from Sprint, I know why I am having all these problems with mine freezing up and after having done several hard resets and many calls to Sprint and a visit to the service center with no fix. Apparently there was a batch of Photons that got shipped with corrupt firmware. When the phone uses that portion of the firmware, as a safe mode, it freezes. There is no fix other than replacement with a non effected phone. They ordered me a new one, that I will get on Tuesday. The only way they can correct it until there is an OTA patch is to send it back to Motorola. Wish me luck with this one
Update....
So here is the update....
5 Days of Ownership - A total of 9 shutdowns of the phone with the only way to get it turned back on again was by pulling the battery. On the 9th time, I went directly to Best Buy to show them. They agreed without question to replace it. Unfortunately they had sold out so I had to wait 2 more days for the next shipment. Gotta say Best Buy were excellent tho. I had 1 further shutdown before getting my brand new replacement.
3 Days of brand new replacement Photon 4G ownership - I am disappointed to say that I have had 1 shutdown so far and this was on the second day. Not sure if I want to Jinx myself but the shutdown rate is lower in the first 3 days than it was with my original.
But it's looking more and more like it's a bug in software than hardware. Either that or I get the DUD from two completely separate batches of phones.

Well, I got my brand new replacement yesterday at the Milton Massachusetts Sprint Repair Center and as of yet no shut-down, or freeze-ups. I have my fingers crossed here on this one. If not I will be reprogramming another new one soon. They did assure me that this is not affecting every Photon, but there was a large batch released with this corrupt firmware. Its like a waiting game to see if its a dud or not. I do love this phone, and I am getting tired of setting up these phones over and over again, but on a good note, I can completely customize my phone and all my apps in about thirty minutes from activation
First off, I am very happy I joined this forum. The amount of knowledge and support here is incredible. From rooting to Roms to just general phone questions, you all seem to know everything. The issue I'm having is a common one from what I've read but I've hit a wall here. I got my 3D a few months ago and it was amazing. Recently, not so much. I began having screen issues where it would make random selections and become completely unresponsive and finally took it into the Sprint store to have it looked at. The tech there simply ordered me a new phone and I picked it up a few days ago. It is a reconditioned unit but from what I've read, that's standard practice. It's only been a few days but I'm having screen issues again. It only seems to act up when I have it plugged into the charger though. The line draw test just goes haywire. It's also difficult to replicate the exact issues to show the store reps. It's really hit or miss. My question is, do I ask for another unit or can I get a completely different phone. The Service reps have been very helpful and so far everything has been free, but do i continue on with this phone. How many times will they order me a new one? Thanks for any and all input!

If you have insurance they will replace it as many times as you have issues. From past experience if they have to replace the phone three times they will give you a new phone. Sometimes they may let you exchange it for a different phone...but it's very rare.
I've had the same problem and have had my phone replaced twice. I've been told by multiple reps that if I have the same problem again, they will let me exchange it for another phone. But keep in mind that not all phones carried by sprint will be available for this type of exchange. At the time i spoke to sprint last, about a month ago, the best phone suited for my needs was the motorola photon 4g. I was hoping to exchange for a galaxy s2 or "epic touch 4g". Hope this helps.
get it replaced. it only gets worse
ask for a new phone, I've heard some accounts that its a shortage of some sort on the phones mobo so replacing the screen+digi combo doesnt do much
Strange. I've been having issues with my screen as well. Sometimes I have all kinds of phantom touches, and the screen will be unresponsive... Seems a reboot temporarily fixes it. Frustrating thing is that, it happened all day Friday and when I took it to sprint after work, my phone behaved perfectly fine... They didn't know what to do... Now its doing it again...

This is a common problem with htc phones I have had in the past. Has something to do with the grounding of the phone when it is plugged in. I am pretty sure if you search touch screen issues while plugged in, you will find other users with the same issue.
