I have had this issue since custom roms have come to the evo 3D, and it has happened on my original and replacement Evo3D.
When I go to turn down my phone all the way, it doesnt work. It beeps throughout the whole range of volume from max to off to vibrate. Also, the volume indicator will not go below the first section. The only way I can truly put my phone on vibrate or silent is to go into settings and sound and set it to it manually. Here are some screen shots.

Vibrate
Anyone else experiencing this, or know whats causing this? I have tried to a search, but didnt come up with anything. Its annoying and definitely not great when I go to silence my phone and it doesnt actually happen. Is it a 2.3.4 issue? As most custom roms are 2.3.4 variants, I thought this might be the case, and I have tried a number of roms over the last few months.
Works for me..maybe its dsp..I always delete it before flashing.

It works on my ROM
Hit Thanks if I helped or help fund my Android addiction
Maybe it's a custom icon or something you are using?
How about flashing to a stock rooted rom and see if you have the same problem.
Works here too. I would have definitely noticed something like that.

Do you wipe before each flash? Wiping and then flashing should fix the problem. If it's still there, try wiping, flashing the superwipe, wiping again, flashing your ROM, and then trying. It should be fixed after that.
same thing happened to me on Eternity but a wipe fixed it, if ur doing it manually make sure to wipe system too.

I can find plenty of info on how to force it into safe mode...or how to force it out of safe mode, but I'm looking to do neither.
I rebooted my phone today (because gmail wasn't syncing) and it started back up, to my surprise, in safe mode. It's weird b/c besides the sync everything was peachy.
I'd just like to know if there's any way to poll the rationale for it? Any log file I can cat? Any ADB command I can run? I'd just like to know what triggered it...this isn't a daily occurrence so it's not like I can just turn log-cat on and reboot. So I want to look at it now, while it's in safe mode.
Any help/tips are appreciated. All I can find in Google is how to get it in and out of safe mode.. NOTHING regarding diagnosis...
CM7...forgot which kernel. - JT's nightly #11 IIRC...I can get that info once I find his nightly kernel build page again, lmao.
Weird. Mine did yesterday too.
Haha, probably just a coincidence.
Either way, I'm REALLY surprised there's no info on this subject...
I mean either a flag set before shut-down or a status code on boot should stick it into safe mode...it shouldn't be hard to poll why. Something like that should definitely be either pollable from ADB, or in a log file some place. Seeing the lack of activity in this thread I decided it was probably a moot issue and rebooted into recovery, cleared cache and dalvik cache, restarted, it booted normally..
Though I'd still like to know for next time. Not only is this useful for people who actually give a ****, but it's useful to developers so they know of potential problems/bugs that exist inside ROM's. I'd be extremely surprised if there was **absolutely** no way to get it.

:-\
So a few weeks ago, my phone decided to go for a swim.
I managed to dry it out, and it works as well as it ever has, but for one casualty.
My proximity sensor is shot. It reads 0 all the time, that mean when I'm in a call, it instantly turns off the screen, leaving me un able to use the keypad, or to even end the call.
I came across this in my searches,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626611
Saying that there is a line I can amend to the end of my build.prop that looks like such:
gsm.proximity.enable=false
Click to collapse
Now the original thread was for The HTC Desire S for AT&T, and seeing how it references GSM, I assume it's not just a Ctrl-c, Ctrl-v kind of job.
So what would be the correct conjugation of this line for the photon?
I'm getting closer

You can edit the file /system/build.prop
Search the line: mot.proximity.delay= VALUE
Change the value to an higher value.

Edit:
Looks like I should've herped but instead I derped.
Since I'm running CM7, all I had to do is look here

Now when it means longer than nomal then it will still time out right?
Surely there's a way to have it be set for an indefinate amount.
Even with the option checked to set the power button to end the call, I still can't end calls with the power button.
Any thoughts will be really helpful, kinda takes away from the whole phone thing, if it's a pain in the ass to make a call, I'm tied having to make a battery pull just to hang up.
So above has not helped.
I have heard about an app called screebl that is supposed to lock the screeen on on boot, but that hasn't helped either.
Still having trouble with this, which is annoying as hell since I have to often dial exertions for work, but I can't since I can't pull up the key pad after placing a call
This time I'm really not trying to bump the thread up, I promise.
So using elixir, I can show you that both the proximity sensor and light sensor are both completely unresponsive, I took this screen shot with a flashlight directly in the light/proximity sensor area.
With the proximity sensor constantly reading 3cm, my phone believes it is up to my face constantly.
I'm at my wits end, the option in accessibility to have the power button end the call isn't working either. So calls on my /phone/ are seven times the hassle than it needs to be.
Sent from my MB855 using xda app-developers app
The only way I have kept this from tearing my hair out is flashing Peetr's Hybrid v20, instead of Cybik's CM7.2
Now at least the power button actually ends the call again.
This isn't a fix though, it's a stop-gap. I'm trying to keep as detailed records as I can so if google throws some unfortunate soul here, there will be someone who at least tried to walk this path. Wish someone would say something, even if it was "Stop bumping this thread"
I FIXED IT.
In peetr's hybrids build.prop there's a line
ro.mot.proximity.touch=1
Click to collapse
Setting that to 0 disabled the proximity sensor.
Hopefully no one else has to go through the headaches that I have done. But there it is.

First, I flashed Beans 4.3 OTA leak then his official 4.3, and both worked perfect. No random reboots or fc's. Then I just installed Sophisticated 2.0, and again no issues.
Other than the fact I keep getting a notification saying my wifi connected to my network even though it was already connected, and I always have it set to keep wifi on during sleep.
I tried searching, but couldn't find anything that sounded like my issue. I attached a screenshot of the notification I get at least a few times a day.

That is an annoyance, but thankfully one that can (newly) be turned off. Go to settings, wifi, advanced and uncheck 'wi-fi notifications'.

Thank you so much. It wasn't really a big deal, more annoying than anything. Coming from 4.1.2 I never had that, but that had that stupid wifi always in the notification panel.

(Sorry for the late reply - missed the notification on the forums.)
Glad to help - I've always hated that ongoing alert in the stock ROM. It's great to have an option to turn it off.
Anyone know of a good app that will make the flashlight blink when you get a text or missed call? I tried a few from the playstore but they arent that great and they only flash it for a few seconds, I often leave my phone face down in a noisy environment and it would be nice to have the flashlight flash every few 5-10 seconds after a text or missed call until I see it, do any kernals or roms have this baked into it or as an option? or anyone know of a good app that does this?

I just tested it out and its cool it is built in but it only flashed it for a few seconds, I am looking for something that will make a flash every 5 seconds or so, and keep flashing until I look at it, or at lease for a specified period of time.... like a missed alter reminder.....
So I was messing around with a Galaxy On5 that Straight Talk had sent me for free. I was rooting it and along my journey I found myself in a very strange mode that I would like to figure out how to return to. The phone booted up with some arrows along the bottom, or gears and said Factory something. It was some strange developer test mode or, something along those lines. It was a weird home screen with blue(I think) squares and abbreviations in them. There was a long stretched green battery bar at the top with segments. There was also some strange applications, but notably, and the reason I want to get back into this, there was what I believe to be the default AM/FM radio app. This app was different from the ones you find by 3rd parties, it had an older appearance and did not require anything to be plugged into the phone jack to work. It also worked quite well compared to other radio apps. There were a few other test type features like vibrate and what not. This was not safe mode, as it almost looked like a completely different operating system. Is there anyone who can give me any insight as to what the heck this was? I have tried Googling all kinds of things to try finding something similar but nothing at all, just the typical Recovery and Download modes which I am already familiar with.

Unfortunately I was unable to get a screenshot or picture when this happened.
How did you get back from.
Its surprising no one had found this "easter egg" before.

I think it happened when I flashed a rom. I can't remember I was messing with the darn phone for hours. I might try to replicate it though, haven't decided if I want to risk losing my root.
I figured out the mode is called Factory Binary and is triggered by flasing a firmware I found with odin in AP.

Images won't embed properly. Using prntscr
Edit, after hours of research, I realized it's not some 'secret' mode or anything, it's simply a factory testing software.
Too bad I couldn't pull the AM/FM app from it through, would really like to use it.
