Is there a problem with latest HC Leak? - HTC Flyer, EVO View 4G

I am not trying to alarm people, but want to share a problem I am having. My Flyer is now bricked. Its totally dead. It does not respond to any charge.
Background:
I upgraded to Leak3 from Leak2 via shortcut => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19252771&postcount=54
The reason of this shortcut is that I did not revert to GB. This means that that I did not upgrade to HBOOT / RADIO that comes with leak3.
I was able to charge/discharge my flyer fine till now. 2 days ago I forgot to charge my flyer and charge level dropped to 5%. At that time my Flyer stopped responding to charger and never charged after despite all my attempts.
I don't know what happened. It is likely that this is a hardware issue, but I did want to caution others if they have the same issue.

OK, I assume you have tried a different charger, such as a micro USB from your PC, but I thought I would ask. Try attaching it to the PC and see if ADB can connect.

Yes, tried everything => Factory charger, Connecting to computer via factory supplied cable, using MicroSD charger from my Atrix.
No luck. dead. no life.
Any suggestions other than sending it to factory?
Just want to Warn other folks on leak3 who used the shortcut. If my problems are not hardware related than do not let charge drop below 10%

What happens when you try to connect via USB to a PC?

Did you try to connect to charger and press the power button for about 15 seconds? Had the same situation with the 'normal' upgrade path (reverted to GB between the leaks), that helped.

nothing. No response.

This does not sound like its related to the HC leak. The flyer should charge and respond to ADB even is the ROM is not booting as long as the Bootloader is intact. You should chat with Globaltron. He has resurrected several Flyers from dead due to mismatched boot / radio issues. But what you describe does not seem to jive with that because they will charge enough to respond to ADB, even in that state.
Does the LED near the power switch come on at all ?

Thanks. I will send a message to Globaltron. It is very likely that what I have is a hardware issue. I first connected the Flyer to charger two days ago when the charge was 8%. The LED was blinking at that time. Right off I noticed that it did not become steady after it was connected to charger like before. After that I tried several things like softreset/hardreset/charging in recovery/fastboot etc but device never charged and was losing charge rapidly. My computer would not recognize the device nor would I see notification in Flyer.
Yesterday it completely discharged and has been like that since. I have tried connecting to computer/factory charger/Atrix charger without success.
The reason I created this tread is that there were one or two folks who reported similar behavior after leak install and I suspected there might be an issue with leaks with charging if power falls below 10%. Though unlikely I thought it was best to warn others.

People have had problems charging when the boot was messed up but it would still charge enough to connect to ADB after a while. Flashing a good boot image corrected their problem.

Yes, but you have to hold the buttons for up to 30 sec. Sorry that this also didn't help.

Thanks. I tried but did not work.

It sounds like a hardware issue. If it would not charge with android running there is a problem other than the normal mismatch of recovery and hboot. That only affects off-mode charging.

hello
now the phone is in a boot loop, what i've tried so far
-charging battry for 12 hrs

-flashing different roms
-trying a different battery
-removing sd card when booting
no luck
any suggestions?
thx
Few questions for you here:
First off, Are you in a boot loop with xdandroid or WinMo. If its WinMo check below. If it's Xdandroid try deleting data.img, and starting over.
1.. Did you task 29 before flashing the other roms.
2.. Are you charging from a usb, or wall charger. If you're using a usb, that very well may be part of the problem. Use a wall charger. This has been a known issue for these boot loop situations.
You also may have bad blocks, or another hardware issue. I seriously doubt that though.

Is this the boot loop where the phone starts to boot, and then within a few seconds it runs out of power and turns off, and then after a few seconds of charging starts to boot again and repeated infinitely?
If so, this can be cleared by leaving the battery out of your phone for a long time. Not exactly so sure how long it needs to be, but I did it for a day or two and that worked for me. There is some sort of memory chip in the battery that needs to get cleared out to prevent the phone from trying to start automatically.

After I tried much things to solve it, and that things didn't work, I send my TP2 back for garantue. That was the only way for me to fix it.

External battery charger
This happened to me. The only solution was to buy an external battery charger. I found a universal li-ion charger at the local department store that could be adjusted to charge any brick style li-ion battery.

like i said i dont why it works but it does for some reason. im guessing the power supplied by the car adapter is greater than a standard wall one. also this dead battery issue just started resently for me so i dont know if its the kernel or system ext2
ya the car charger gives you 2 amps while the wall charger gives 1 amp, i thought that this only affect the charging time
I am glad you you were able to get it going. This happens fairly often for me when I let the battery get too low.
The stock charger just doesn't put out enough current. I switched to using my old iGo universal charger. I have tips for all of the family phones (plus a y adapter to charge 2 at once. I can charge fast at home or in the car, and it seems to be able to provide enough juice to keep the phone going even when tethering, which the stock charger can't.

[Q] AP Fastboot problem

I was downgrading from 4.0.4 to 2.3.5 and while flashing with RSDlite the battery suddely went down and it showed failure.
Since then I am not able to turn my phone on, nor even in the menu which shows the option of AP Fastboot.
When I plugin into the computer, it shows a white LED and nothing else. What should I do?

I have been seeing many threads here. One of them suggested to charge in AP fastboot mode using the buttons but that didn't work for me. I am yet to try the cable method.
Is there any other way out?
Guys, I cannot understand why users are trying to flash with low battery again and again. The problem is already known well, am I right?
So, put your device on the charger, NOT TO THE PC. Wait a while and check if it's charging. Maybe you are able to put the device into the fastboot mode only for a short moment, there you can shut it down pressing the power button shortly. The you should be able to charge it normally. If not, try a factory cable. AND at least: READ THE FORUMS!!!
Edit: And do NOT charge it with your PC! It will only charge with you charger.

My phone automatically boots in the fastboot mode and it shows battery low. I am not able to charge it.
I have been reading the forums and all the stuff I found is not working, that's why I made this new thread.
I think from fb mode press vol down and power. This should turn off and you may be able to charge. If not either get a factory lead made or make on yourself

doubt it, ive been trying endless methods to try make it work as waiting for factory cable from ebay is gonna be like 20-25working days, not counting the despatch of the item after 3 business days of payment being received. god that is soooooo long 4 me!! arghhhh
You'll need a factory cable to flash a new rom in order to charge ur razr. Do a factory cable forum search.
Don't be scared by the name, it's just a modified cable you do by yourself.
Good luck

USB problem (software?)

Hi guys,
I'm having some problems with my S2's USB port. I've been combing the forums to see if I can find something, but no luck. Let me describe the symptoms and everything I tried.
Whenever I plug my phone in, it doesn't show that it's charging, but the battery is getting filled. USB also doesn't work. Rebooting the phone with the power cable plugged in shows that the phone is charging. Doing the same with the USB only made it charge but not work in USB mode. The battery life is also crappy, as the phone never goes into deep sleep (not even with the Deep Sleep app).
First I thought that the USB board might be faulty. I exchanged that (yes, the revision matches). The problem still persisted. I then tried to reflash the device with different versions of stock ROMs (ICS and JB). Same thing. I then tried flashing the Siyah kernel. That solved a small part of it. Restarting the phone while connected to the PC will make the phone be recognized as a USB device. I also installed CM 10.1. Tried it out with the Dorimanx kernel, still nothing.
My next plans are to use the NukeROM script (tried it before, but nothing) and try fiddling with different ROMs. If anyone has any more ideas, I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks,
Tudor

Did you ever try to use another, USB cable, USB port or even computer to connect your phone? If not, try this first. It is just to make sure you are not trying to fix the problem on the wrong side of the USB cable
Oh yeah, forgot to mention. Tried multiple ports with multiple cables on multiple PCs.

I could live with the USB thing, but the not going to deep sleep is really a phone killer. The battery only lasts a few hours on idle.

I've been using it (even got the paid version). Doesn't really show anything useful. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, it should show me any problematic apps I have installed. Seeing as how I've been wiping like crazy, I don't think it's an issue due to some app.

Maybe the only thing to try at the moment would be the old battery drain technique... Usual means is to tape down the power button and wait days and days until it is dead, really dead ( shows nothing when connected to computer), then connect to wall charger and reboot and see what you get. This is really the ultimate "hard reset" but same result can be obtained far more quickly by removing the back and disconnecting the battery for a while to remove residual charge... Not as frightening or difficult as it might seem, have done it loads of times for various faults and to replace batteries in several tabs.

If you're trying to discharge by taping down power button just leave the tab on it's own not plugged into anything... Plugging into something that charges rather defeats the object of the exercise

In some cases it takes more than a day, be patient... Unless you are prepared to remove the back and unplug battery... The aim of the game is to completely power down the tab and remove residual charge in components, the "hardest" reset available.... So, two ways to achieve that is drain battery or disconnect battery... If you drain battery you must be sure it's empty to achieve desired effect then you obviously cannot restart it without charging a bit as the battery is empty, so you connect charger then try to boot, but the tricky bit is being sure the battery is completely drained otherwise you are just wasting your time... That is why battery disconnect is preferable

Many Thanks to You stinky73
I had to purchase an iFixIt repair kit to get the correct driver to remove the two screws. I disconnected the battery, waited ten minutes and when I reconnected I was SO HAPPY to see the battery charging icon. I charged for a while a fired up the tablet. Everything was the same as if nothing happened. I am so happy because Samsung said they could fix the problem and it would be a flat rate of $150 which I don't have and I would lose everything.

It took me longer to remove the screws then anything. I stripped them and will need to replace them. I tried a regular screwdriver before the tri-wing screw driver and paid dearly in time. Once the two screws were removed, use a plastic pry tool starting on the bottom where the screws are because once the bottom and sides are pried lose, the top will slide over the extended audio jack.
1.5 hours to remove stripped screws
10 minutes to pry open
1 minute to disconnect battery (did not remove battery or three data cables on top of battery)
10 minutes wait for discharge
3 minutes to re-connect battery cable (it slides forward and snap down)
2 minutes to replace case

I am wondering, it has been over 15 minutes since I disconnected the battery completely, but connecting the P7500 to my laptop still shows an APX device being connected. Could there be some hardware issue preventing the device from being fully discharged?

Forgive the gravedigging, but I am unable to find anything regarding my situation, and the original poster has a problem that is similar to mine (my thread is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=52931715 ). I hope someone is able to give me a hand here!
I am wondering, it has been over 15 minutes since I disconnected the battery completely, but connecting the P7500 to my laptop still shows an APX device being connected. Could there be some hardware issue preventing the device from being fully discharged?
Thanks in advance for any help!

I've got the same issue as Lightside and the original poster. Mine is a GT-P7500, which had CM10 nightly ROM with CWM recovery. I sold it on eBay, but before selling, I wiped the tablet and got it back to the Clockworkmod main screen. I turned it off completely and shipped it to the buyer, ready for it to be registered by the new user.
The buyer received the tablet and from the e-mails I received from him in the first couple of days, all was going well. Then, a couple of days later, he sent me an e-mail saying that the screen shows the android lying on its back with "Odin download" mode showing. A day later, he sends me a messaging saying that he can't turn the tablet on at all. The guy who bought it is an old man and didn't know much about fixing the issue. I asked him whether he powered the tablet off while still plugged in to the wall charger and he confirmed that he did. I asked him to return it to me and I can try and fix it, so now, I have the tablet back and it won't turn on. Here's what is happening:
1. I drained the battery using the cellotape method
2. Installed the NVflash drivers
3. Waited for the battery to drain (almost 9 days and the LED flash stopped blinking, so assumed it was completely drained)
4. Plugged it in to the PC and it immediately showed up again as a device under the USB controllers within Device Manager
5. I then unplugged the battery by opening the back of the tab, left it for 15 mins, then tried the wall charger again, but nothing. No charging icon on the screen.
When I try to press the power button, I can see the LED light up, but the screen is still blank.
Could this be a hardware issue and if so, what do you think could have caused it?
Could really do with some help here, folks! I don't want to have to give the buyer a refund because technically, he got it when it was in working condition and he probably did something to screw it up, but since he's an old man, I thought I'd try and help him, if I can.
same to me

[Q] Phone Wont Charge

This morning I got in my car and plugged my phone in, turned on Waze and drove to work which everything was fine. I started to do some testing on my phone at work which was killing the battery so I plugged it in, but the light did not appear for charging. I tried plugging it into two different computers, wall outlet, and different cords. I tried a co-workers phone on my cord and his started charging with no problems both connected to the PC and wall outlet. I cleaned the USB port on the phone thinking their maybe some dirt and build up in there, but still no love. Tried simulating a battery pull, flashing a ROM, and doing a restore...again no love. So I am guessing either the battery or the port is bad, even though the cable clips into place and is not loose.
My question I guess is: I have insurance on the phone, but do I need to RUU the phone in order to get the work done or will Sprint not care? I don't want to RUU and not be able to unlock and root again, but at the same time....I need a working phone. Also, if I missed something in my troubleshooting that someone has had success with for the same issue, please let me know.
Here is an early Thank You for those that may have suggestions or advice.

Hey bud. First thing I would do is flash the latest stable TWRP for the phone. Then boot to recovery and see if it will charge.
If not, try flashing a stock kernel and see if that fixes the issue.
If it still has problems, I would be willing to bet it is hardware related be it the board, port, or battery.
If you are S=OFF, you will be able to root and unlock just fine. I don't know the carriers policies, but it's always safe to be RUU if you intend to do a Insurance claim. Make sure all your internal memory is backed up prior to flashing a RUU.
I found out the usb port on the phone is bad, but if I plug it in halfway the phone will charge. Thanks for the response and suggestion neo.

I've had that problem a few times too. Followed these instructions (found somewhere else) and it's corrected it every time:
1. Power phone off
2. Put on charger for at least ten minutes (does not appear to be charging, but that was the instruction)
3. Hold both the volume up and power buttons at the same time for at least two minutes (phone goes into kind of a boot loop)
4. Release both and phone reboots and charging works again
For me it fixed the "messing with the USB plug"
At least worth a try.

Sorry that didn't work. I always hate giving up, especially when it's usually a mess I've caused. Hahaha but anyway, if things are straightening out when I have issues, I go back and flash the stock android rom, I'm on Verizon and use the deodexed one in another post on here. Seems as though using the rom designed for the phone cures a lot of ills (imagine that). Again, unless your set on sending it back (personally I hate the hassle of that) I'd give that a try too along with doing the button holding thing too if just flashing the rom doesn't correct it. Good luck whichever you decide!

Well I ran an RUU yesterday and had no luck, until I found plugging it in halfway got it to charge. I have tried everything that I can think of along with neo and your suggestions, but the port is just bad. So I am hoping it will hold off until the end of the month when the m9 comes out and I am able to upgrade. So I will ride it out till it completely stops charging or I get a new phone. I do appreciate your suggestions and help though.

If you have insurance they should cover that... Also if your have Verizon the extended warranty may cover it.
