Excuse my noobness because this is my first ever tablet and i don't know that much about rooting or any of that but i have a few questions
1. Does it support CBR/CBZ/PDF? one of the main reasons i want a tablet is for comics/books, do i have to "root" it?
2. What video formats does it support? not a huge issue because i will mostly be using netflix for video
3. When "rooting" or any of that stuff does it disable netflix? i hear it disables the amazon prime stuff on fire.
Basically i am getting it for casual video watching and comic/book reading with web surfing, is the nook for me? kindle fire? i don't know anything about tablets but have dabbled in homebrew/jailbreaking for other devices.
If this has been posted im sorry i just want to make sure i am picking the right tablet for me before i drop the $ tomorrow.
Here are some answers to your questions (and people reading can feel free to correct me if I'm incorrect about any of this stuff).
1. The NT will read PDFs and CBZ natively, no root required. It handles both pretty well. To read CBR, you'll need to sideload a comic reader app (which is relatively easy). There are some great ones out there. You don't need to root to sideload apps, you can download them via the browser, or put them on on an SD card. Or you can get some in the Amazon app store. And if you do root, you can find them in the Google App store. But again, you do not need to root to read CBRs. And you don't need to do anything to read CBZs and PDFs. The NT's reader app can handle both.
2. Video format is limited to 3GP, MP4, 3G2 and FLV. But you can sideload video players (again, this doesn't require a root) that will allow you play avi, mkv and a few other formats.
3. I have heard nothing about rooting disabling netflix. It's possible some people are having issues, but those are likely isolated incidents. Mine works just fine anyhow.
For casual video watching, comic reading and ebooks, the nook tablet is fantastic. I highly recommend.
Hope this helps.
>Does it support CBR/CBZ/PDF?
>What video formats does it support?
https://nookdeveloper.barnesandnoble.com/product/nook-tablet-specs.html
Built-in capability has PDF and MP4 (video). You'd want to sideload dedicated readers/players, not just for unsupported formats, but also for their better capability.
If you have Netflix, then Netflix HD sounds like a win. For movies in general, I use Moboviewer along with CIFSManager to view them over wifi. Comic reader: I use Perfect Reader (free). PDF = ezPDF (not free). Rule-of-thumb: For anything needed, Google "best [xyz app] for android".
Web surfing on a 7" is cramped and awkward, although it's fine for quickie sessions. The small screen (and narrow aspect) is one problem. The larger problem is simply that mobile browsers aren't as good as desktop ones, and your finger isn't as good a pointing device as a mouse. I'm hopeful for improvements on the software side and am looking forward to the new Firefox for Android.

Awesome! so it pretty much will do everything i want it to do without having to do all the rooting (which i eventually want to learn how to do) and you say it supports PDF/CBZ etc. and i don't know if me asking what i am about to breaks a TOS so i will word it differently, can i import my legally obtained books (and speaking of books what format do you think will be the best for the nook?) from my pc to it?
Also what is Netflix HD? glad it supports AVI and stuff that's awesome but that brings me to a question i totally forgot to ask i hear it has 16gb but only 1gb can be used for loading your own stuff? what about the micro SD? i can load whatever i want on a microSD right? if so can i load my pdfs etc. and will it accept any brand microSD? sorry if these questions sound stupid i just have 0 knowledge when it comes to tablets i played with my aunts ipad2 over thanksgiving and thought to myself how did i live this long without a tablet? and i ain't paying $600 for one
1. The native reader doesn't support CBR- but you can convert them to CBZ. (They're really RAR and ZIP files, so conversion is literally unrar/zip) The first post of this thread has info on converting.
Even if you don't root, you can sideload apps, and sideload the Market to then download apps directly. (Plenty of instruction here on how to do it). Sideload or get from Market your choice of comic reader for more file formats. (I prefer ComicRack Free). You can still use the stock reader as well- it's pretty good.
PDF is supported. Again, you can sideload a more full-featured app like Mantano Reader Free.
2. So far I've only played .mp4 and .avi files, but playback has been perfect. I never bothered with the stock player; sideload MX Video Player and/or any other Android video player. It's a safe bet MXVP and others supports a wider range of formats than the stock.
3. No, rooting doesn't disable Netflix. Following the instructions for rooting posted here was a breeze.
I don't know about the Kindle Fire first hand, but for your uses the NT is a great choice. If movies are important, I'd say the SD card slot is a must-have.
Right on! thanks for all the quick responses but i have one last question and it's about side loading, what exactly is side loading? is that just plugging it into your PC and dragging?
Sideloading= installing apps other than the ones B&N intended. The simplest way is downloading a .apk file of the app in the stock browser, and running it from the downloads folder.
This is a good guide, and then how to add the apps to the native home screen.
Also this thread has been an invaluable resource for .apk locations of common apps.
Surf to that page on your NT after you get it and load it up!
Last question this time i swear lol
I forgot to ask on the microSD, do i just throw the PDF's and what not in the root folder? or do i need to add folders etc.
I popped in a 32GB SD card before putting any files on it and the NT created a My Files folder with logical directories. I created a folder called Comics at the root level for my .cbz files and every reader has picked it right up.
Definitely get an SD card right away, I found that a few apps wouldn't load without one present.

Just a couple of places to get said card:
I got mine at Best Buy (8GB for now), but there are better options:
http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-micro...H0SC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1322753095&sr=8-1 ($10 for 16GB)

Both class 4 and 10 work. They just reference the write speed of the card. A higher class is faster than lower class. Supposedly, a class 10 can write at 10mb/sec, but if you read reviews not all cards can meet it.
Any microSD card should work. I'm not sure a higher class makes much difference. Anyone have experience with that? I just bought the cheapest one from Best Buy; I know it was overpriced compared to what you can find online but I didn't need a ton of storage, just needed to fill the slot so the Amazon Appstore and other things would work.
I bought a class 4- it works fine for everything, movies and data. I don't know for sure, but I would guess the higher speed cards will really only make a big difference directly mounted with a computer transferring files faster, not on the NT itself. But I have no idea what's the highest speed the NT itself can take advantage of.
Class 4 works very well for me. Just make sure you format it using SD Formatter 3.1 which is a free download to your lap or desktop. I read somewhere in a thread on XDA that this will insure no problems with your downloads(can't find the link now, It was late when I read it). The windows standard SD formatter or the on board Nook formatter can pose problems for some downloads but the SD 3.1 seems to be rock solid for downloads. This is what I used and pretty much everything I've wanted to download has worked without a problem.
I would advise a Class 4 card, I believe 16gb will do just fine but, if you're planning on traveling and watching movies/series, it's better (obviously) to have a higher capacity card.
Anyway, as I was saying, I would advise a C4 card, it works perfectly for transferring files, watching video (this is the major reason, really), etc. Just make sure it IS a class 4 card, I've seen a lot advertised as one but it really isn't, try buying from a reputable store, I'd look in amazon, read the reviews carefully.
I bought a PNY class 10 32gb card that i found for $50 on amazon. Hope I don't have trouble with the slow random writes. Although, i plan on using it mostly for storing movies and tv shows, so maybe i'll be okay. It sounds as though it would be bad for putting an OS on it, but I don't think I'll ever need to do that given the locked bootloader.
I used to have issues running apps off of SD cards on my phone if they were slower than class 6, so that seems to be my minimum - but I have not tested a slower one on a nook, nor do I run apps off of an SD card (the internal storage is better and larger, heh). The speeds really vary though and rarely is it actually what is reported See what others review the card as, buy a reliable brand, cross your fingers

Yeah, it's not a bad deal (actually pretty great deal) either for a class 10, to be honest. If you're using an SD card solely for ebooks/storage, any speed is ok (and likely will be slower than what it's rated, especially as it gets older). If you want to run games/apps off of it, have a video camera that writes at a certain speed, want to load OSes off of it (if applicable), the slow cards as terrible at best, and crash the device at worst (this is what happened with my phone!).

Hi I'm having some issues with trying to play .avi files on my flyer. Some files seem to work while others are not supported. I'm playing it out of my MicroSD card in folder. I have tried both rockplayer as well as the moboplayer but it won't play on the flyer. However it will play on My pc. Was wondering if it is my format or if it is my 32gb MicroSD card. The SD is a generic one I got from eBay. Any suggestions would be great help as I would like to watch some of my movies when I travel.
Bucklee
Update: looks like I purchased a fake MicroSD. Oh well I guess I learned my lesson about purchasing MicroSDs on eBay.
I actually had the same problem. I emailed HTC and they said to use rock player lite. Sure enough it worked. Kinda sad that they defer to a 3rd party app for video playback, but I guess whatever works... Should be fixed with Honeycomb they say... So I guess we'll see in a few months.

Crappy to hear abt the fake card that sux. Can u leave us with some more info about what u purchased so I don't fall for the same ploy.... Thx
can't add anything beyong 4gb...
So basically I paid for a 32gb microsd. But. will not take anything beyond 4gb. It looks like it is adding the files but when I try to play the movies it is corrupted and will not play. There are a lot of documention on the net. You can google "fake microsd" and you will find loads of info. Basically people looking for microsd should not look at eBay. I'm sure there are legit vendors on eBay but most of the stuff looks like fake. So they "Chinese vendors" reflash the lower capacity microsd to read higher than stated size. But ultimately you will have corrupt files once it past the original size. Very shady stuff. Unfortunately I found out about this too late to make to make a claim. If you recently bought a generic SD card I would check it quickly as possible so you can request a refund.
So have you replaced the Micro SD card, and if so, the movies play ok now? I was going to say, that all my movies play just fine, although with Rock Player, sometimes you need to select software decoding mode. Also, a few videos are laggy, but they tend to be higher resolution WMV files. All the AVI files I've tried, play perfectly.
There are far too many counterfeit SD cards on eBay, and unfortunately no way to differentiate them from the legit ones. Coming from the Vision/Desire Z/G2 forum, and the Touch Pro 2 forum before that, lots and lots of people on here have been scammed into buying fake SD cards that don't have anywhere near the claimed storage capacity. They hare marked to look exactly the same as a legit SD card, and your computer will even report the "claimed" capacity. But when you actually go to move files (or in your case, play the videos), they don't work correctly.
My advice would be to avoid eBay altogether, and get your SD cards from a well reputed retailer, like Newegg. I've purchased two SD cards from them in the past (and tons of other computer parts), and others on here can also testify that their stuff is always legit. And if you ever have any issues, their customer service is top rated, and will get you squared away fast.
avoid ebay for sd cards
100% in agreement with buying SD cards on eBay. I'm waiting for my new card from amazon. It just sucks how much time I had to waste to get to this point. Lesson learned. Hopefully people can learn from my mistake and spend the money on a real deal SD card or get some decent sushi.
It's the question around my head stopping me to click on the pre-order button.
I have a N1 and though struggling with the internal memory, can't see having more than maybe 1GB or 2 in apps. I get that with this i would install a lot more, but what, another 2 GB? Maybe even 4?. Maybe 4 more in Music. I guess i would put there some films or series to watch. Maybe add what... 4GB? 8? I have a spare 16GB SD card (for use with the dock, which would probably get the films or series) and probably will get a 16 or 32 microSD for the tablet itself. That would be, at least, 64Gb. If i get the 64Gb version, it would mean at least 96GB
Why getting then the 64GB? I'm serious, i would really like to know the reasons people are behind the 64gb version. It's not that i believe it's not necessary, it's that I'm probably missing something in the equation and i don't want to miss anything so i can make the right choice before regretting not buying the right one.
Because.... People can afford it?

HD videos can get pretty dang big...10+ GB for 1080p (assuming bluray rip).
simple fact is HD video takes a lot of space. you put a few movies on at full res on the tablet, you'll soon see 64GB evaporate.
I have 32gb on my phone and am under constant pressure to swap things around because I don't have enough space.
I ordered the 64GB. Because I don't want any limitations and have to "worry" about if I have enough space.
And now when we have hardware that can handle high quality video 720p/1080p why don't use it. When you have gone HD you never want to go back to low resolution videos.
All movies/series I watch are 720p mkv.
4-7GB is one movie.
1-1.5GB is on serie episode
0.5-1GB is one game, and those will gets bigger now when they can be more advanced.
even apps will get bigger when they gets more advance.
So fast you will reached the 32GB mark.

All depends on your usage.
I keep around 20 gigs worth of music on my phone plus constantly swap out TV shows.
I got the 64gb version coming AND a 64gb microSD for it as well... I could easily see myself using the 64gb internal to fill up with pics and videos from the (from what it sounds like) great camera on the thing and have the microSD holding lots of videos, movies, ROMS etc... hell im lookin forward to the 2 terabyte microSD's!!
Because.........why not?
So I can laugh and look down from my mountain top upon all the 32GB peons!!!!
for $100, why not?
32GB Micro SD is about 60-70$ right now, 220$ for a 64GB. I want AT LEAST 64GB right now so I can dump all my music on it and use it instead of killing my data plan with Google Music. I'll end up getting a micro SD for it (64GB when they're a little more affordable anyways) so I can maximize the storage space on this thing. Games are huge, videos are huge. This thing takes pictures and video... why the hell not. What's 100$? You'll be paying more for the dock, but not for double the storage space? I think it's worth it.
64GB of local space is getting bigger and bigger the later we go into the future...
Look at Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, Google Music, Pandora, etc. and you will see a lot of that space is now useless.
But who cares? What if I want to go on a long road trip and I pack several Blu-rays on board or several giant games on? Maybe. Well, my 16GB TF101 still has about 10GB on it..... My 16GB iPhone 4 still has about 4GB on it... My 2.5TB HDD still has about 2TB left on it....
If you have $100 extra dollars to go down on this beatiful tab, go for it!
That have been a lot of answers for such a short time, thanks
I feel i'm convinced to go with the 64GB version, didn't know some games were so huge (with a N1 it's difficult to play anything not named angry birds ), and didn't remember the huge size of the HD files (sometimes i forget that because of the 2TB disk at the main pc, which never seem to end ). The main reason being, of course, laughing and looking down from the mountain to the 32GB peons
Now, time to wait, at least for christmas, for amazon.de to send it
HD videos...each clip can easily take gigs
Just because YOU use your devices a certain way does not mean everybody else should do the same as well. Some people have way more than 64gig of music. Some people have gigs of movies (I know I do). It's nice to copy a few 4gig+ movies over and not worry about left over space when I need the space later.
I have friends like this.. they say "16gb is fine for me, its all I need, why do you need a 64gb".. /facepalm
For many people, the 32GB model (supplemented by micro SD) is probably enough. But many is not all. Especially while travelling I do need A LOT more storage - I'd rather avoid having to use external storage or an SD card in the keyboard dock unless it's just for transferring photos from for example my digital camera. As a lot of commentators have mentioned, it's once you get into media storage especially video (but also to some extent music, photos, E-books, magazines/comics/PDFs and the like) that the 64GB model becomes advantageous. Basically, there is a lot of competing media requirements these days and I can only see that increasing. Cloud storage is not really an answer, as it's a solution for some of the issues but not others.

That's exactly why i asked it seriously, not in a "i don't need it, why you do?" fashion, but in a "i don't know if i would need it, tell me why you do and i will see if i do"
It's my first tablet, and my other android device is a nexus one with just ~ 180MB for apps + storage and microSD (4gb atm). That's why i prefer asking than just deciding on my own, as i already said, i might miss something and that's what i don't want And i asked it publicly because i might not be the only one with the doubt
Well, I deleted all my music from Transformer because of free space problem. 32GB would also be too little. 64GB + some SD/mSD would be OK though.
Hello everyone.
After reading lots of reviews and opinions and having the oportunity to use the tablet, im sure i want to buy a Sony Tablet S
Now comes the second decission to make.. ¿Which model? As the title of the post says, im between 32Gb or 16Gb+3G.
I know that whatever the model is, the space for installing apps are the 4GB partition and i think the apps that allow moving to Sd card, in this tablet means moving to the second partition but never to the external sdcard. So... Do you think the 4GB are enough for all kind of apps and games?
About the 3G conexion, thats something i will use mainly during travels. Instead of creating the hotspot with my mobile (and draining its battery), i'll change the SIM card to the tablet. Another option is buying a prepaid SIM with some data-plan to just use with the tablet during those travels, and when i dont have available wifi's.
A requirement would be to have access to music in the external sdcard, but allowing to reproduce a full album. I have the movies part resolved with the MxPlayer, but dont know any beauty music app which allow to do that
Well, any opinion or advice are welcome, so dont hesitate to post it !
Thank you in advance
I'd go with PowerAMP, it works beautiful. Might use WinAMP as well.
But I prefer PowerAMP myself. It can access the external sd-card without problems.

I think that PowerAMP is not free, but anyway, if is possible to access and reproduce lists and full albums from the external sdcard, my requirment is accomplished so...
¿What would be your choose, 16GB+3G or 32GB?
(Forgot to say in the first post that price difference between both models are just 20€ )
I suppose that you'll bring it around to work or travel, thus with 3G is a better option. And you can buy SD card for more storage and even cheaper.
Hope you will have your own choice. Cheers and welcome to this community

I'd go for the 16GB+3G if the difference is that little, then get yourself a nice SDXC 128GB sd-card and space won't be much of a problem. At least not external. However internal might be eaten after a while if you install to many apps hehe.
Yes I know PowerAMP cost a few $$$ but it's worth it. WinAMP cost too. THough both exist as free-versions for you to try. So you can get the feel for it.
I'd go with the 16GB+3G too. I miss the 3G from my old Galaxy Tab since I got a Wi-Fi version and with full-size SD card and USB storage capabilities, storage isn't a huge problem unless you install stupendous amounts of apps.
Thanxs for all the answers.
The usage of the tablet is not going to be for work, but i'll bring it in my own travels where i wont have available a 3G network since the cost of using it in other countries are so expensive
I also found a nice music player (Meridian player), which allow to reproduce lists from the external sdcard, so with MxPlayer and Meridian i got covered the multimedia part.
Im also planning to use the tablet for playing games from psn, gameloft and emulators, so what bothers me is that the 16GB version only have around 8.5GB in the usb storage and im quite sure that all this kind of games cant be installed in the external sd.
How much space does this games take up in the usb storage? I know that having 3G is a great option, but im almost deciding on the 32 version just for this reason

Most of the gameloft games I've seen have been about 250MB worth of SD card data (maximum, although there's been reports of them taking up to 1GB), so you'd still be able to fit plenty of stuff on there. If you're that worried about it, sure, get the 32GB, but I think it's more about how you're going to use it.
I myself went with the 16GB as I already have an additional 16GB SD Card.
I have a MP3 player that I keep most of my music on, I mostly keep movies on my tablet.

Same here. I bought the 16GB version, since I already have 16GB and 8GB SD cards handy. Plus, once I bought my USB OTG cable I just keep movies on a 16GB USB and transfer them to the SD card one at a a time. Works a treat for me.

That's cause the only ones available on the Tablet S are worthless P.O.S. compared to the ones unavailable.
Games such as backstab HD, NOVA 2HD, Modern combat 2 and 3, 9mm etc have pretty much 600mb minimum.
w/ full sized SD cards available, 32gb isn't necessary at all as we've confirmed up to 128Gb SDXC cards working.
16Gb is more than enough for app / games storage (how many 1Gb games do you play?) in my opinon, but of course consider your own usage scenario
Many of you might already know about this. But i wanted to find a way to watch movies on my tablet. and i stumbled accross DVD Catalyst. The dev is amazing. If you ever have any problems with anything. He always replys back within the hour, couple hours max. He clams 24 hours. but thats if he is sick or somthing. He sells his software for $9.99. Best ten bucks ive ever spent.
Any Dvds you have laying around the house or can get your hands on. You can easily rip and convert in one process. to any device basically ever made. (he has a couple thousand devices to choose from) So with device choosen, it will automatically format and have correct resolution for specified device.
Theres a bunch of differnt settings to tweak with if you know what you doing. or just keep on default for best results for average user. His website www.tools4movies.com he has guides for just about everything. including how to convert for best quality, low space, best quality with less space, ext
The dev (Mitch) also has a couple apps accross all OS's (android, apple, blackberry, kindle, nook) Where you can stream you movie content on your computer to tablet, cell phone, or any other device online. So you don't have to fill up your tablets memory with movie data. instead you stream your movies from computer from anywhere in the world. (With guides of course, how to set up) Its pretty nifty if you ask me. Thats why i'm sharing this with anyone who wants to be able to watch movies on there tablet. without renting them for 5 bucks on the play store. or downloading them illigaly.
If yo have any questions, check out tools4movies.com
or email him at [email protected]
or reply to this post. and ill try to answer anything to my best knowlege, better to go straight to website for detailed questions.
P.S oh ya the price is a lil cheaper right now. at $8.95 i believe, wont last for long.
Seconded: I've been using DVD Catalyst since back when I owned a Nook Color and have used it to convert hundreds of movies. While I have yet to watch one on my TF300, on my HTC Flyer (which replaced the Nook Color) they play great.
Also, the developer is a real stand-up guy and is very helpful, going to far as to monitor various internet discussion forums answering questions from users of the software.
Another awesome thing about the dev. (Mitch) is on those forums he monitors, I've seen him suggest other things besides his software. So he's not out to get everyone to buy it. Of course he will mention DVD catalyst. But he will also suggest other options to choose from. Hard to find Apple like that these days
But this is the reason why I got a Tegra 3 device. This thing plays everything I throw at it, unlike the sorry Tegra 2.
I would never need to convert file format any longer.

You wouldnt convert to a different format. so our tf300 can recognize the file. The whole reason to convert your dvd is so you don't take up as much space as original dvd. which could be 6 to 8 gb. So instead of 6-8gb you would convert it anywhere from 1-3 gb so no you can store a bunch more movies if you have a big collection. like most pple do
also during conversion. it sets file to our screen resolution. the quality you set it at and any other tweaks you do. which theres so many to choose from. but ya you don't convert it to a format so our tab can read it. you can change the format to whatever you want. thats just not the only point of conversations
The Tegra3 is very powerful, and with players like MX and Dice, it is capable of playing a lot of different video formats that it doesn't support out of the box, which is great if you get your videos from the web, but if you have a large collection of DVDs, you still need a way to get those into a format that you can actually transfer over to your tablet.
But aside from that, if you look around other android-forums, there are a lot of people complaining about issues with playing the video files they already have obtained/created.
With a collection that consists of many differently formatted video files, mkv's and avi's created using different settings, some play better in one player, others play better in another player, and for others you need to tweak with the settings in order to get them to work properly.
By converting your movies, you don't run into this. Sure, it takes some time to actually do the conversion, but once you have your files in the proper format, there is no need to fiddle around anymore, and, the files will play fine on less powerful devices (smartphones or eReader tablets) as well thanks to compatibility with hardware decoding (which also saves a bit on battery usage). And the conversion of files isn't such a big hassle if you can just drop a folder with 10-100 video files onto an application, and start the process with 1 click.
Due to my work, I have a large collection of different tablets, including an iPad3, Kindle Fire, NOOK color, Xoom, Playbook etc, and I can play my video files on every single one without having to install a different player or adjust settings. For the ones that have a memorycard slot, I can just take one of my cards from one, and stick it in another, and know that the videos will play fine.

+ 1. I have been using Catalyst for a few years now and I think it is the best converter out there. The tech support is top notch.
Hi all,
I have the 10.1 2014 tab pro and I want to get a new SD card. I know from my brief reading through these forums that not all SD cards will work and I dont know enough to really understand what is what (like what does "SDHC Tf Class 10" mean?). If anyone knows what it is that I need to look for before buying one so that it will work fine with my tablet please post here.
ps I am using these primarily to store books and documents, not videos or games or anything that really takes a massive workload or speed requirement.
pps Im not sure if this matters, but I am running stock unrooted
TIA
Most any newly purchased MicroSD card should do. What did you read won't work? Below Class 10 cards might not work for some high speed functions (like video), but I believe all should work for casual use like you describe.
SDHC versus SDXC mainly refers to the capacity of the card, which you are probably going to be looking at separately (in GB) anyway, so it really doesn't matter. Basically, the original SD standard (also called SDSC) was limited to 2 (4?) GB. SDHC increased the capacity up to 32 GB, and anything higher than that is SDXC by definition. There are some other minor differences, but probably nothing you really need to worry much about.
Class (8, 10, etc.) refers to the read/write speed; but you may also see a UHS speed classification (U1, U3) also. Even though you are not talking about high speed demand tasks, I'd still tend toward Class 10 or U1 cards. Just in case you change your mind about what you want to save to the card; and many cards meet Class 10 or U1, anyway. For the few cards that you can find with lower speed class, you might save $10, so its probably not even worth it to consider lower speed class cards.
The following Wiki articles goes into a lot more detail about the specs: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Digital
Out of all this, I'd be more worried about brand, or getting a counterfeit product. Some cheap or off-brand cards seem to fail more frequently than the big names. Folks all have their favorites, and may argue that you are just paying more for the brand. But I've bought several Sandisk cards, and never had any issues (and heard similar from other users on XDA).
I'd also stick to a reputable seller (Newegg, Amazon, etc.) as places like eBay are awash with counterfeit SD cards. Its so easy to relabel a card as a higher capacity (i. e. take a 32 GB card and label it as 128 GB, etc.) and even spoof the device to read it as the "fake" capacity, than charge much more $$$.
I am using one of these on my TabPRO:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-MicroSDHC-Memory-without-adapter/dp/B00AYC6V2U
Works fine on all my Android devices.
And to really leverage it outside of Google Apps and pre-installed items you need to root and enable write to the SD card, unfortunately. (Unless I'm missing something.)
Thanks, I really appreciate that info on what all those terms mean. However, right now I am using a 32gb Sandisk ultra, and my data keeps getting corrupted, apps cant find it, showing up empty on every file explorer I try.... Therefore I thought since Sandisk is legit (I bought it at costco so its real Sandisk) I figured there must be some issue with the type of card.

I had similar issues with a genuine SanDisk card in my S3 (couldn't access it in recovery either), just showed a bunch random characters instead of file names etc), swapped it to a different brand (I got a genuine Sammy one because it was a bargain at the time) and that solved the problem....
