Any news on official OTA Update? - Motorola Droid RAZR

Very tempted to go for the EN.EU update mentioned in the EternityProject thread over in the developers section (i.e. the "leaked version"?), but was also wondering if anyone knows when this update will be made available "officially"? There's quite a bit of talk about a "december" release on other forums, but those are all US Droid Razr forums with very little mention of this current en.eu update. Any ideas?

I wouldn't update... breaks root and, like the Bionic, there night not be a way back onto the official upgrade path.

fair enough.. but no news on the official update from anyone then?

*tumbleweed*
Impossible to find any info on when/if this is ever coming officially from Moto. By the sounds of it, those that have tried the update from the dev thread don't seem to be having any problems (except for loss of root I believe).. but it'd be nice to have some more info if there's any info to be had?
Or should I just bite the bullet (root not important to me - yet) ? Kholk, any thoughts? Will I be able to update to any other "official" updates from moto after upgrading to this one?

[q] possible answer to froyo ota update failures?

I posted this in another thread but thought it was worthy of starting a new thread to get as much feedback as possible. See below:
I too am getting the dreaded IP_PREVIOUS_UPDATE_FAILED error when installing the Froyo OTA update that was officially released by Verizon on 4/20 so I called Verizon (I actually called twice to see if I would get the same answer, which I did). What I was told is that when an OTA update is released it's released in phases. If you are not included in the group of phones that the OTA was officially released to then you will not be able to install the OTA update.
So, the question I have for everyone on this thread is did you receive an auto notification on your phone when you turned it on or did you go into settings and do a manual system update check? If everyone that is getting the IP_PREVIOUS_UPDATE_FAILED message after downloading the OTA did a manual check then that might in fact be the answer to this issue. If the IP_PREVIOUS_UPDATE_FAILED is coming up even for people who got an automatic notification of the OTA update to Froyo then once again Verizon has no clue!
Loved to get a show of hands on this.
Thanks!

[Q] Android OS updates and OEM OTA's

I've been searching and searching and can't find anything where this question is really touched on, at least not from Google.
Basically the thing I'm looking at is this. I come from a Droid X which had and still has a locked bootloader. I was always under the impression that this means two things:
1) MUST use signed updates
2) Cannot use custom kernels
And based on those two things my understanding was that you can theme and modify some small framework and /system stuff, but could never truly update the phone like you could with an unlocked bootloader.
This is where I'm confused. So we have unlocked bootloaders on our Thunderbolts which allows us to flash unsigned zips. Cool. But how does this affect future versions of Android? Like our current Gingerbread roms, aren't they based off of a leaked RUU? What would happen if let's say, Gingerbread is the final OS Upgrade we get from Verizon. How will the next major update to Android be loaded to us?
Do the developers have the ability to port new versions of Android without these leaked OTA's? Or do we rely on the OTA's that include new Android OS versions to progress? Thanks
When Verizon sends out updates our Devs can take them and edit them to work with rooted users. Thats why you will see things come from (I think his name is football) who gives us the updates from Verizon and then our Devs modify them to keep our root privileges. If you are rooted on a custom ROM tho you wont receive OTA.
Thank you for the response. I understand that part, but really what I'm trying to find out is:
Thunderbolt is on Froyo -> Verizon WILL update us to Gingerbread via OTA
Had Verizon NOT updated us to Gingerbread, would devs be able to take us there thanks to an unlocked bootloader? Or would the phone forever be doomed to use Froyo?
Take that principle and apply it to whatever comes after Gingerbread, because I'm pretty sure 2.3 will be the last major OS update this phone gets officially.
i cant give you a sure answer but BAMF has made sense 3.0 work on our phones and that is never releasing as an OTA i would assume if the next version of android comes to any 1ghz phones or well any htc phones someone will find a way just allot more work and more time.
Well thats basically all I needed to know. As long as we have an unlocked bootloader and a dev community willing to work on it, people can basically port any new versions of the OS even from other phone updates.
I just fear the idea of EOL and no more future OS updates.
Good way to answer your question is to take a look at the d1 and even the eris. They are both eol yet i know for sure the d1 has gingerbread, and i believe the eris does also.

Question about old ICS leaks

I remember there were some leaked ICS updates rolling around before the official OTA update. I have been very unhappy with my RAZR since the OTA and have managed to get Verizon to send me a replacement RAZR that doesn't have the ICS update pre loaded.
My question: Can anyone point me in a direction that explains or reviews which ICS leaks are able to be freely be downgraded to GB?(which ICS leaks share the same bootloader as its GB predecessor)
The only reason I ask is I have no reason to ever accept the OTA without Adobe Flash working.. But if it works on a prior leak I may see how stable they are... I just need to know that if it doesn't work, I can safely go back to GB and be happy.
I appreciate any help with this!

Flash is working on .211 build for me, stock browser it is buggy but in other ones it is smooth, I prefer chrome, which will be preinstalled in the next update (.215+)

XT912 Update Help

Okay, so it's been almost a year since I've even looked at this site and I can see I'm so far behind. All I wanted to do is update to either a good ICS ROM or just root the most recent OTA update. I just don't know what the first step is for me since I'm very out of the loop for what all of the tutorials expect.
I currently have a custom rom with 2.3.5 and SafeStrap 1.09 on an XT912
I also have all the drivers and the the factory rom if that helps. If someone could either explain briefly what order I have to do things, or provide a link that works with what I have, that'd be nice.
Also any thoughts on whats a good ICS custom rom.

[Q] ATT FOTA last night? Anybody else try and succeed?

>>I'm just curious if anybody else has received notification of a new update from AT&T recently, and if so, what was it?
I've had my E970 for about a month now. When I first received the LGOG, I did receive a FOTA notification and did the update. Then
I rooted, unlocked BL and installed TheBase.
Last night, I received another notification regarding an OTA software update being ready to install. Since I was actually ok with the stock LG ROM, I made a backup and then went ahead and let the update install.
Most of you won't be surprised to hear that the device rebooted into recovery, I received an error message, and the update failed.
Luckily, I didn't brick anything. I like all the information we get before allowing an app to install, and I can't believe there is no info given about what an update to our OS might contain. A version number [4.0.4 or 4.1.2?] and a short description saying bugfix / security fix / new features would go a long way here.
Personally, I kinda like the LG touches to Android and am looking forward to the official JB update.
I plan on sticking with stock-based ROMS on this device until it's no longer supported and then going back to CM.
I'm running Android 4.0.4
Baseband: APQ8064 / MDM9x15M
Kernel: 3.0.21
The Base 0.6.5
E97010l
I just checked for an update and...
now it says it is up to date?
I wish I had more information, and I DID search the forums and elsewhere to try and answer this myself first.
Now I'm thinking that AT&T is just trying to update me to their latest software and away from a custom ROM.
Incidentally, the OG is the first Android that I've actually done a FOTA on. I received the Atrix 4G and the X10a long after their release, and went immediately to custom ROMs.
It's just updates to E97010c. Nothing worth updating for.
