Hi
Has anyone had any experience with service centres? I ask as I might see if I can get a replacement screen for my SGS2. It has yellow on the left hand side and its really bugged me. It doesn't seem to be a software problem, I have tried lots of firmwares and tricks but nothing.
I'm not sure if I would be eligible for a repair as I have been flashing different firmwares - clockwork mod and the root kernal both brought up the ! in a triange at boottime. Its not there now as I have just flashed 2.3.6.
It was a three (UK network) phone, no branding on phone or box, but a few extra apps on the phone. I wiped that firmware and never made a backup It was carrier locked so I needed to get root and unlock it with hellroz's app.
Do you think I would need to reset it to a state it was when I first got it (re-lock it to carrier even)? If not about how much would they charge for a new screen? (someone might have paid for a similar service)
Regards
Mike

Hi everyone, new user and post, unfortunately prompted by a problem (aren't they always!).
I have just received a slightly used Motorola Razr (Optus branded) that, unfortunately, is stuck in a bootloop and restarts every 30 seconds. Neither a hard reset nor safe mode fix the problem, although I am able to access recovery mode.
The seller is adamant that the phone was working perfectly, that they did not flash, root or otherwise mess with the firmware and only performed a hard reset, and that they have since called Motorola, who have told them its a well known issue fixed by a firmware update.
While its nice that Motorola is no nonchalant about their hard reset bricking phones, I am rather a little more annoyed and so have turned to the good community at xda developers for assistance.
I am aware that firmware can be updated using Motorola's tools, however I cannot find any Optus branded firmware or updates in the rom list. My questions are:
1) Can anyone confirm that this is a common problem fixed by a firmware update?
2) Does anyone know where to find Optus branded roms?
3) If I flash with a non Optus rom, what are the consequences for the phone, my warranty and ability to receive Optus updates?
4) What would the good people here do? Try to fix the problem? Claim under Optus/Motorola's warranty? Send it back to the seller?
Thankyou all for your time and any assistance!
i had same problem, im aussie with optus 2, unfortunately i lost mine too, but if u fastboot flash the europe/australia fastboot file in the stickied rom thread, that works, cause it worked for me.

I'm actually not even with Telstra, but wanted to keep the phone stock.
Have you noticed any differences between the Europe/Aus unbranded ROM and the original Optus one? Will Optus still honour your warranty?

differences should be, that there are no more optus-'installed' apps on your phone and that your phone will no more be able to receive the optus udpates (i think so). Cause updates are set on top of the previous system, for example the optus rom you already have.
to your first post:
i don't know if a software update will solve this problem, especially the phone should be running while performing it. there is no common way, to receive the update via pc... no 'legal' way and every carrier support in the world will tell you to do an update, before trying to send it back...
flashing another rom will definitly erase your warranty, unless you don't go back to stock before sending it to your carrier during next problem phase...
but i'm not shure if there's a way to go back to optus stock while having such a problem... and i don't know to, if there are optus roms available right now.

no differences in functionality, only difference was the pphone was cleaner with no optus bloatware (and you can download the optus account usage & misc apps through the market anyway)
by the way, just for the record, ive sent a razr in that was rooted for exchange, and i still got a new razr, but was stock =)
Well I've now tried two different European/Australian firmware versions and two different methods of flashing fastboot files (RSD lite initially, then the eternity project's fla**** tool). Both seemingly flashed fine, both no longer display an IMEI number, both continue to boot to android then restart after 30-60 seconds.
I'm not sure whether I have warranty any longer and really, I'm not sure I ever did as the seller got the unit as a demo/gift unit from Motorola for review (the unit also displayed build date 18 Oct 2011). Nonetheless, he's given me a receipt from his business to me (as if that satisfied Motorola's requests for a 'genuine' original receipt) and directed me to Motorola's service centre who may or may not tell me that its my fault (its not) and may or may not do it under warranty. The seller has 'kindly' told me that he's not going to leave me in the lurch and if the service centre doesnt fix the issue to send it back to him to try and get fixed. I'm not sure I trust what he tells me anymore, since this hardly seems like an issue that could just result from a simple 'hard reset'
Well at this stage I am so angry I could just throw the thing against a wall. If Motorola's service centre fails to rectify the issue, this thing is being sent back to the seller with a directive that unless he sends me a working phone he is to keep the brick and refund me my outlay.
What a nightmare. Should have just bought from Kogan for 50 bucks more.
Yea we live and learn...... Should have just sent back to seller, (if you received it that way)
Fingers crossed on motorola coming to the party.
Sent from my XT910 using XDA
65.1.40.XT910.Optus.en.AU OTA should be out there now or soon.
Android version 2.3.6
Fastboot xml will be available pretty soon.
do you have a link to the fastboot files? Need to downgrade from ICS for warranty purposes
Hi. Today I went my Samsung Galaxy S3 to a Service Center to replace my screen because it had a couple of dead / stuck pixels.
I was waiting for about an hour and them my phone was ready. I was surprised of how quickly they manage to fix my phone. But, when i turned the phone after that i say at the boot of the device the provider's logo and when the device got to work I saw all his apps. When I told them that my phone was unbranded they told me that it was but it never showed up because of the firmware that my phone had!!! Is that true??????????????
I bought the phone from a local store without any provider. I bought just the device. I has updates my phone with Kies and OTA and it never saw me that.
It sounds like the repair centre flashed a carrier specific ROM instead of the generic ROM for your region.
Flashing back to a generic ROM is quite easy but begs the question did your original seller flash a ROM over some carrier disposed stock, selling it as unbranded - or is the repair centre making it all up to cover their mistake?
It's still the same phone and, as long as it isn't SIM locked to that carrier, will make no difference.
If your phone was rooted may have been why .
But the only answer is with who fixed your phone

JJEgan I have never rooted my phone (yet).. I MUST do!! Boomboomer how can i know about that?? About the fact that my seller did flash a ROM over some carrier?? The hole package is original none carrier Samsung, it was sealed and in Kies it never told me that I am running other Firmware!. I didn't check if the phone was or was not SIM locked because when I saw the carrier logo I returned the phone immediately..
Hello,
I will have to give background info on this before anyone can help so bear with me please :.
I live in Pakistan and I bought a i9300 directly from samsung. In the beginning of the six months i owned the phone, I never rooted or put custom ROMs on it. Then unfortunately I got SDS. I gave my phone to a local repair shop (non samsung, but highly reliable, I bought the phone from there) who switched the motherboard on the phone. After I got it, I rooted it and started installing custom ROMs on it. First it was cyanogenMod, then Paranoid Android and Supernexus +AOKP and others. Everything worked fine. Then I installed Omega ROM (Samsung based ROM which changes the modem). Everything went fine, but I was unable to connect to my network (No texts, calls, data connectivity). It detected my network(Ufone) but was unable to register on it when I manually tried to. I mega-wiped my phone, cleared cache and factory reset and did everything. Alternatively, the following steps I also tried.
1)Checked if my IMEI is intact. It was. (I have EFS backups too)
2)Checked if my serial # is different. It is still the same (No need for Ariza Patch)
3)Checked if my SIM works. It does on different phones.
4)Checked my APN settings. They were fine. I even manually changed them to match the carriers
5)Changed my CSC settings (using the playstore app). Still doesnt work.
6)Checked different modems from the appropiate thread (I have tried Europe Unbranded, Middle East, Egypt and many others)
7)Restored nandroid backup of original stock 4.1.2 Sammy ROM, still not connectivity.
8)Flashed using ODIN, the stock 4.1.2 ROM for my country (Using SAM mobile). Still no connectivity.
9) Matched my RIL with my baseband (using the GetRIL app), still didnt work.
Stock Samsung 4.1.2 ROM details before OMEGA flash in which everything worked:
AP: I9300XXEMA2
CP: I9300XXELLA
CSC: I9300OJVEMA1
This has happened to me the 5th time now (Phone is currently at the repair shop) and I have sequentially tried every one of the steps I have mentioned. I called up the repair shop and they said that I can come tomorrow and pick it up, all they have left to do is "SIM UNLOCK "the phone. That confused me a lot. I will go tomorrow and ask them details as to what they meant by that. So my question is basically this:
1) Is it possible that the motherboard they put into my phone is from a software-unlocked phone not a hardware unlocked? (Is the 'unlock' on the motherboard of the phone)
2) Is there a way to find out if my phone is software or factory unlocked?
P.S. Every single time I hand in my phone, I obviously unroot it and install stock on it (regardless of the fact that it doesnt connect to the network). But every single time I get my phone back, its ALWAYS ROOTED.. I even asked the technical team guy and he had no idea what I was talking about (repairmen here dont have that much of knowledge, they tend to follow guides online, thats it). So could it be that my connectivity issue is just because its software unlocked and not hardware?
Thank you!
Anyone?

Not a genuine service centre then .
IMEI
MODEM
CSC
all correct for network suggests a hardware fault .

But it's not a hardware fault? I mean whatever they do, they have to root the phone to be able to do it. Any idea what settings or configuration they might have changed using root for it to connect which I haven't already tried?

Hi guys/girls,
Well I had some issues last week with attempting to unlock an I9300T (same as I9300 only it picks up the 2400hz band from the Telstra service provider) anyway, eveyone was mentioning 'Just flash back to ICS to downgrade the bootloader, unlock and flash back again' or something along those lines. Needless to say the first thing I did was root the phone to back up the EFS/IMEI and in the process of rooting via Odin with CF-Root....the task in it's self bungled the EFS anyway. So corrupt EFS, no signal and IMEI displaying as 0049. On a side note I discovered a new and much easier way of recovering your EFS should anyone run into those sorts of issues.
It was told following tutorials from various sources that the Service Mode menu input for simlock works on international SGS3 models???? Well apparently it DOESN'T....so all my effort was wasted I guess? Flashing the phone and bricking it several times. Anyway my point I wanted to make was that there is quite a difference the Service modes available for Australian/International I9300 devices.
I am curious to know (if possible?) transplanting the serviceModeApp.apk from a device where Network unlock can be performed by simply pinning in the service code via the dialer....to un-sim-lock the device??
Would somebody who has successfully unlocked their I9300 via this method be willing to share their serviceModeApp.apk for me to be able to test this theory??
EDIT: Needs to be Android 4.1.1 from what I have just read now?
Oh and just for clarification, I would be needing the serviceModeApp.apk from the version of Android that you were running when you unlocked your device, not the one you are running now if you have updated firmware versions since then? So most likely I would be asking someone to dig through one of their Nandroid backups to extract the serviceModeApp.apk from that particular firmware...EDIT From reading I believe I'll specifically need Android 4.1.1 (Not 4.0.4 or 4.1.2)
The reason I request this is mainly due to the fact that older firmware versions are becoming difficult to come by since the collapse of most of the major online file-storage providers such as Hotfile. Seems like an awful lot of work for me to go through for one apk also ....then to learn that the one I choose for what ever reason was NOT the correct one for unlocking because of the region and/or service provider the firmware was from or any other long list of unknown variables.
So yeah if someone that unlocked during ICS can fish out that APK for me that would be really appreciated, not only that but if it proves to be successful we will have a lot less people bricking their phones
Many many thanks in advance!:good:

I purchased a 2nd hand Galaxy S7 Edge from someone on Facebook Marketplace. It's a dual sim model (which is not directly available in South Africa) - When I collected the phone the old owner manually removed apps which I found to be strange as I was planning on doing a factory reset anyways, but he said I first had to update the phone before I can do a reset. Once I got back home and put the phone of WIFI > Software update I got a message saying that the software was not verified (leaning towards the phone being rooted). I also saw that he had multiple copies of Whatsapp which I knew was not possible with a normal ROM.
Not wanting to constantly see his personal info, I decided to reinstall the base S7 Edge software I found sammobile.com - Using odin this worked and I was able to reset the phone, but now there is no network coverage at all. I have tried everything, even downloaded a different version (both XDA and XDE) but no luck. I took it to a cellphone shop and they say they think the moterhboard is faulty which I doubt, when I got the phone and put in my simcard the first time around there was no network issue at all, this only started once I reinstalled the original rom from Samsung.
My understanding now is that the phone was likely purchased in UAE or Dubai and the network was unlocked (not sure how this works) - When I reinstalled the default samsung rom the network lock is back and I can now not use the mobile device with my local provider.
What options do I have? Is there another rom (even if it's not samsung, happy with anything) I can use on the device? I presume they had a different rom installed anyways to get it working in the first place, but I was stupid and never made a backup of the rom so now the phone is nothing more than a wifi device.
Any assistane would greatly be appreciated!
