[Q] Can screen be converted to 720p resolution? Saturation Options? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

So I was reading some comments comparing the SGS II and Galaxy Nexus on a website and I read this comment.
18. remixfa posted on 29 min ago 0 0
basically everthing the SGS2 got dinged for was Gingerbread related, other than the screen. The screen isnt that big of a deal, they are both top of the line screens and its already been proven you can take the SGS2's screen and make it 720p.
What does this person mean? How can it be changed if the screen is 800x480?
Also, does anyone know how to get the saturation options from the international SGS II and Sprint SGS II to the AT&T SGS II? All the other saturation adjusting apps don't work right.

where did you read/find out that was possible? i strongly believe you cannot change the resolution, its hardware, not software. You can change the density, which will give you the illusion that the res is higher, but its not. and also, when you change the density, a lot of things on the phone won't be scaled correctly. if you can, please provide a link to find this info...

It has? Show us the proof then.
Note: Good luck finding this proof, as it's impossible to do this. Changing to 720 would require changing out the entire AMOLED panel. Also, remember the GNex uses a PenTile screen, so its subpixel density is about the same as ours.

Well because it was a comment on a article, I didn't feel it was necessary to include the link. I wanted to see if anyone heard of this as I thought that since it's a hardware issue, it can't be changed.
Do any of you have any idea about the saturation option I was talking about? Can that option be proted to the AT&T SGSII?

Thanks. I couldn't find anything about the Hellraised ROM you mentioned in regards to the saturation issue. Can you help me with what I need to do? I'm running CM 7.1 so I don't know if that causes any issues.

Found an app on the market. It's called: LCD Resolution (Root)
made by: wemobs Labs

You can't use 'software' to put more pixels into 'hardware'.
Technically speaking Lcd Resolution lowers the screen quality. Say it takes 100 pixels to display one letter of a word. Lcd resolution changes the display so that same letter is smaller and now made up of only 80 pixels. Not as smooth edges.
I love the app. I have it running right now. Seems 192 is ideal for me. Makes my screen feel like it's as large as it really is. More screen, not just bigger icons.

All that does is change icon and text sizes by fooling apps into thinking your screen is higher or lower density than it really is.

[Q] i9100G dISPLAY DIFFERENCE !

Hi people, this is my second Galaxy SII, but this time i got the "G" model. i am well aware of the difference between the chipset difference and the slow cpu blabla.. but what really shocekd me was that even the displays are not the same ! i original galaxy 2 has a deeper and richer colors and i can change them from standered to dynamic...
same option in G version, but when i change the display modes, there is no effect of the image (the one they show on top for comparison) plus, i have version 2.3.6 By ODIN, where my original is still running 2.3.5 .
**** IF SOME ONE CAN CONFIRM ON THEIR "G" MODEL THAT THEIR DISPLAY MODE WORKS OR HAS AN EFFECT FROM SLANDERED >DYNAMIC ---- AND BY THAT WHAT VERSION ARE THEY USING, I AM HOPING ITS DUE TO MY PERSONAL UPDATE THAT IS CAUSING THIS DIFFERENCE OR IS IT JUST THAT SAMSUNG fU**ED ME OVER SINCE IM A ASIAN !
I checked mine, the changing modes make no difference in colors AT ALL. Even on max brightness. Let me check it on I9100.
Also, I disagree about the screen quality differences. The black levels in my I9100G are awesome, I cannot differentiate between black body of the phone and the black color on screen. Also, comparing it with I9100, the whites are also better, the whites on I9100 are more of yellow shade, whereas on I9100G are more on the whiter side. And the black levels are same.

Exactly ! Your black Color is so black just like the body of the phone ! That is the exact case with my i9100 ! I agree with you 100% . But on my G version is not the same case which is the reason im am posting this question ! As i mentioned the colors in my G model seem Dull and less intense and the black seems as if it is being"lit" as a black color compared to the true black in the i9100. Please Tell me what is you version of firm ware on ur G. I have 2.3.6 on it.
Hope fully i hope its just some Bug thats is reducing the colors of my G models
I am on 2.3.6 stock with no rooting. Earlier on 2.3.4 stock there was no color issues.

[Q] Video Maker on AT&T Galaxy Note I717

Another WTF WHY moment.. in addition to no Screen Mode - no wonder I was also having a hard time locating the Video Maker..
Anyone with the AT&T version get the Video Maker APK working from an international version?
Can anyone with the international Galaxy Note GT-N7000 backup the APK with file expert etc & upload it to this forum or link it somewhere to see how it runs on the AT&T Galaxy Note I717 .. -Thnx

Yeah, I've submitted two threads about this (one here, one at Androidcentral) to see if anyone knew where I could get it. Of course, I had my Note earlier than most people so it was a bit premature and the threads got buried. I really want the Video maker app. It looks like iMovie.
Theres a thread about the video app on here already, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1496452 Unfortunately the .apk doesn't work

Funny you say that, you think Samsung is worried about additional legal battles with the litigious Apple if they include this Movie Maker app in the US market (like the physical home button issue)?
I'd appreciate a better understanding of the rationale behind all these differences between the SGNote models.
I'd heard a rumor that this missing Movie Maker app as well as missing screen mode may not run well on the AT&T Galaxy Note I717 hardware hence they were removed but the rumor remains totally uncorroborated..

I'd decided to wait at least until after MWC next week before deciding on any SGNote-upgrade..otherwise I'd try that "TrimApp.apk" & report back to the forum how well the international Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Video Maker works on the AT&T Galaxy Note I717..
I would LOVE to adjust the display settings, the colors need to come way down. Most people love that colors POP but being oversaturated is such a turn off for me. I didnt even know you could adjust on any phone
I WANT THIS FEATURE!
It could have been an issue with the different processor/GPU in the LTE version versus the International. Maybe they could get the apps to play nice with their own internals but couldn't get them to work right with Qualcomm's?

I agree. Some colors, like the cnn.com red header seem over saturated and neon.
But I still love my Note. Setting up my old iPhone4 for my daughter as an iPod and the screen was soooo small. I felt like a toy. No way I could go back.

Disappointing, that Video maker app for the SGNote added an easy mobile way for some mediated / augmented reality post video editing with the S-Pen.. another reason to get the international Galaxy Note GT-N7000 if you can live without LTE & can afford paying the unsubsidized but contractless price.

Well the international Galaxy Note GT-N7000 has it now, not sure if the AT&T Galaxy Note I717 will get ever get it.
When I checked out the SGNote in an AT&T store on its release date the Samsung rep was there & I asked him where screen mode & the Video Maker app were & he sadly did not know what I was talking about but I was hoping XDA could get it working from the N7000 but perhaps it's incompatible with the I717 hardware.
I told him I was going to wait at least until after MWC before deciding on my upgrade & I mentioned Samsung should also announce the Galaxy Note 10.1 there which he acknowledged but said he will not get to play with the 10.1 until he is there next week & he said he's had the AT&T Galaxy Note I717 for over a month.
I'd started a thread back in December regarding SAMOLED's unnatural colors vs IPS' more natural colors & while I of course would also like to have screen mode options like I do on my Samsung TVs , it didn't seem to bother me on the SGNote higher res screen like it does on lower res SAMOLED but I'll have to check it out again.
I'm eager to hear about MWC news & the Samsung Galaxy III & even curious about what Ubuntu will present as many Android devices could more easily become full desktop functional PCs when wanted as well.
I just tried to install the VideoEditor apk on my rooted note and the installation failed... I hope someone finds a way to install it on our Notes...
Samsung confirms its absence is due to chipset incompatabilites:

Screen Crispness....?

Anyone notice that the resolution shows 2k on this device but the icons and pictures and other things dont look as crisp as they should? They look sort of blown out.

I noticed it on my Axon 7 phone which has a QHD display too.
icons are probably incorrect resolution, 2k screen isn't that popular. Also you might have smart resolution on, (i never notice it and therefore doubt it does anything at all)

technically, the IPS screen would be better, as it has RGB layout instead of pentile.
But the resolution on both is high enough you probably can't tell the difference anyway.
I think its strange youtube will never give an option of more than 1080p

I boost mine to 915 (I think!), though I have to bump up the font size if I do that. Having come from a Tab S, that seems closer to a similar use of screen real estate (e.g. in YouTube, it shows 5 videos per row on the home page). Unfortunately, it means the other settings can no longer be accessed, so I need to reboot if I want to change anything
I'm surprised that more people aren't complaining about this. I think Huawei have simply taken the interface from the 8.4 version without any changes, so things are just bigger all round but you get no advantage to choosing the 10.8 version

Someone had posted just last week that the M5 feels like a large phone and not a tablet, likely due to it not identifying itself as a tablet. This causes annoyance with some apps as they draw as if they are on a phone, which when stretched to a tablet screen not not good. Instead of making use of the extra screen space and resolution, things just becomes hard to use.

I have mine set to 1250 dpi and I love it. So much real-estate, looks clean, higher quality and since its on the Resurrection Remix Rom, the dpi stays at that custom number even after reboot. Some things are hard to tap at times but I use GMD gestures and control the tablet with gestures and tasker

Video Issue: The Red Tint & Stutter Thread

Let's get a thread started to discuss the problems, and hopefully SOLUTIONS for two specific issues reported in many early release Huawei P30 Pro's.
First is a very noticeable RED TINT to the video produced on the P30 Pro and the second is STUTTER & LAG (seen mostly while panning).
Do you have this problem or is your phone fine? Do third party apps solve the issue? Is the issue software or hardware? Do recent updates solve the problem? Could this simply be an issue with pre-release software in some early videos?
Let's discuss & troubleshoot.
We need video samples (good or bad) from real people with the phone!!
Sent from my SM-G975U1 using Tapatalk
Hopefully someone can provide a 4K video recorded with Open Camera set at max bitrate, with panning and moving objects.
Stumbled upon another fairly honest clip which does mention these problems, but also clearly notes things look lot less saturated when recording with wide lens
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eP6LtcH8724&feature=youtu.be&t=336
For comparison, here are bitrates from S10:
With the H.264 codec, the [email protected] videos are captured at 72Mbps bitrate, the [email protected] - 48Mbps, the [email protected] - 28Mbps, and the [email protected] - 14Mbps.

I saw that as well. The wide angle does not seem to suffer the same oversaturated picture. Does that mean it's hardware? I assumed this is probably software related. If it's software then third party apps could be a solution.

I would really like to see some video samples from someone on the .124 update. A lot of the video we are seeing from Paris is pre-release software. If someone can post some video panning and of people, to see if the red skin tones exist it would be great.

Hmmm, this 4K video does not look that bad. It's from a Croatian review site, which is usually pretty honest in their reviews. Yes, there is some jerkiness and saturation, but it does not look horrible. I'm leaning towards this being more of a software issue.

The image shakes every now and then, kind of wobbles like some kind of distortion, it's probably software issue with image stabilization and also colors seem way off, like everything was red: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FA3fcyG9j6M
The same looks fine on S10: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qV29PdjSsX8

This also looks better (not great, but better) than TechTablets video test. Perhaps it's the new update?

I am hoping that some people with the .124 update can check on their color accuracy. It's possible that the update included fixes - it would explain why some seem to be unaware of the issue entirely.

I am also planning on using FiLMiC Pro since I can manually edit the saturation, red level etc. I understand it's not for everyone because it costs about $30 to get all the options but I'm interested to see of that gives me a 'work around' on some of the video issues. When I get my P30 Pro next week I'll be sure to update. Hopefully there will be a solution from Huawei by then and a professional video app will not be needed to produce great shots!

Update: I have had several people report that their video quality is "excellent" and does not exhibit the issues we have been discussing. Perhaps the .124 update was a solution? It would be nice if Huawei (or anyone for that matter) would detail what specific improvements are contained in their updates. You would think they would want to disseminate the information to the public as fast as possible!
Can someone with the .124 update tell us if the issue is resolved?

We need to see examples, some people will never see the problem in the first place. You won't believe me but I have friends who can not tell a difference between 720p and 1080p, when it's obvious to you, frustrating...
There's no red tint on 124. None that i notice anyways. When does it occur ? Indoors, at night, all the time ? Panning has some slight stutters at times if you move it too fast. Feels like the stabilization can't keep up with the horizontal swivel.
Here is the same scene, daylight:

Yes. I can see it in the steps immediately. Are you showing the difference between phones with the .124 update and prior to the update? Or are you showing us two different phones on the same software? What is different, because that pretty well suggests a fix.

The one without if from a S10+ it seems.

Different phones but same location same time, to make it easier for testers to spot red tint, show what it looks like compared to no-tint video.
I do not know if the tinted video is before or after firmware update.
I think red tint goes away when he zooms in 5x.

Oh damn. I thought you fixed it on the P30 Pro. What other phone was used? S10?
Yes the issue will not be on the other lenses. It's a problem with the main camera. My guess is the RYYB turns out to be a bad match to the way Huawei has the saturation - specifically red levels pre-set. So a 3rd party video camera app may solve if it allows me to adjust. This would be an easy fix for Huawei if they pushed an update that turns down saturation, but it don't know if they can do that for only one camera?

Yes red tint will go away if you use the wide or telephoto lens cause they use different sensors, but the problem is with the spectrum sensor that Huawei decided to ditch the green pixels for a yellow one that's why the red tint occur.

You can change font size but again thats not resolution. Your tablet is running highest resolution by default so you can't increase it

You don't understand resolution. Its not the same as zoom but zoom is what you want to lower.
you could go into developer options and change zoom manually if you wan't a more granular control.

Lol I am not the OP. I do understand screen resolution. I've got a Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and a Galaxy Tab S7+.
On the Note, you can change resolution between QHD and HD+ and even 720 I think. On the tablet there are no such options.

That's there on the phone mostly to save battery life(personally never use it), on a small screen it might be an ok trade off. I don't think many people are dishing out 800+ on this tablet to run at 1080p, just to save 30 min of battery life. There are apps in the app store that will let you do this. BE VERY CAREFUL you can SOFT BRICK your tablet.
Edit: Did not read the full post before answering. The DPI setting is not a resolution change, you guys are right. Sorry... Will leave the answer below anyway as it might help someone.
----------
You can change the DPI (named "Minumim width") on the Developer Settings.
I know that on most phones you can go as high as 597 without triggering tablet mode.
On a tablet the sky (and the graphical performance and glithces) is the limit, but i've tested here on my Galaxy Tab S7 and could go so far as 1800 without big issues.

Thanks for this, but could you please clarify if this would work from the device itself without needing root?
I am rooted therefore I don't know...Anyway, "su" command is for calling root permission on linux so I think root is needed.

Yeah that's what I suspected because the su command didn't work when I tried it.
Thank you very much for your reply by the way.
No problem...actually, most of tweaks or upgrades needs rooted devices therefore some questions about non rooted devices are obsolete.
Therefore, when you see some cool feature or tweak, expect root permission.
How do you make the MW change stick/permanent? Every time I change the dpi it is different when I next check.
