how hard is this idea??? (kryos 7012) - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i want to save my stock firmware and nand and build a restore for my tablet, and infact share it with the world... with a brand new stock coby kryos 4th gen tablet... and my wife has the same one, so i have 2... i searched google, and no hits came up for this specific device cause its somewhat new for the holiday season...
the pourpose here is to backup the stock tablet and provide information on how to restore... but how hard is this gonna be? and setup information provided in a specific order so data cannot be misunderstood.
first things on the list:
Provide android_usb driver, adb and VCT, fwnd info (confusion here is critical not to screw up!)
backup stock universal nand (for rescue restore)
backup stock kernel
backup stock recovery.img
backup stock boot.img
backup stock firmware
backup stock fwnd rom (for fresh stock install)
backup stock kernel drivers (for building custom kernel, chipset specific)
(ok, i learned most of that last night trying to restore my device, probly some stuff missing, but... that is a good start... if anything is missing let me know.
eventual objectives to accomplish:
super1boot root instructions
clockwork recovery boot mod (with recovery-install.sh info) instructions
market fix instructions
build custom rom
overclocking kernel/rom
and more!
i probly left a ton of stuff out.. yet again... i know some of this stuff, but need assistance... anyone able to help? im a pretty good coder and know a bit about android... but im not mister know it all,,,,
how hard does this project sound...

Niki ROM dump

Any updated howto? There's a page in the wiki listing some tool (the URL to that is dead now though), but it's unclear for me how to use it, even though it's described pretty detailed.
I want to dump my ROM because today, after many attempts, long searches and waiting I've finally gotten my ROM just the way I like it, and I want to be able to reflash it as is. I'm now using Sprite Backup (came free with my device), but that doesn't do a full ROM backup, so I'd have to flash back the ROM and then use Sprite Backup to restore my own stuff.
Any help on this would be really appreciated

kernel replacement help: noob here

Hi,
I want to replace the default kernel on my new P500 to get rid of the 100% cpu usage when I touch the screen.
My phone info:
Android version: 2.2.2
kernel version: 2.6.32.9
Software version: V10Q
Just a few minutes i finished rooting my phone.
1. which kernel is the best?
2. does it work with android 2.2.2 ?
3. do i need to make some backup first?
3.1 if yes, tell me the simplest safest way to back my phone.
I installed Rom manager from the market clicked "Flash clockworkMOd Recovery", i also restarted the phone in boot menu and made another backup from there. Should I do enything else to backup? or I am safe now .
4. tell me the kernel i need to install and how. step by step
I know there are a lot of threads and I read a lot but they are too confusing for me and there is too much to read. (please don't hate me )
Hi. I am using Franco kernel v14, looks like is the most optimized around in terms of both performance and battery usage. Many ppl used in their roms but as always do a backup before touching anything that works :¬) So to summarize
1.- Franco's kernel v14
2.- Yes
3.- YES!!
3.1- nandroid backup when in recovery mode for the system and titanium backup for apps
4.- read carefully first post in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1049518 and ask for anything you do not understand.
/W
so the backup i made with Rom manager -> Flash clockworkMOd Recovery is not good?
I have to do another backup with another program?
Hi
you asked for 'the simplest' way for the backup, so I answered for simplicity. I said 'nandroid' because is the one my recovery (amonra) provides. I did not want to imply that others are best or worst, because I do not know a lot of the other options. I suppose all the backups are OK if you restore with the same tool you made the backup.
If any more experienced user think I am wrong please correct me and show soberspine.
I see. there are a lot of backup threads but they look really complicated and time consuming and this Rom manager was just one click away.
should I do this instead http://androidforums.com/getitnowmarketing/330813-all-one-recovery-thread.html ?
I start to hate LG, i don't understand why they didn't fix the touch problem.
The one in that thread it is amonra variation like te one I use. The 'Backup/restore' menu entry will give you the option to do various levels of backup.
Regarding fixing the problem maybe waiting is your solution, It has been said that 2.3 will be released shortly (days/weeks) for P500.

[Q] Using CWM to recover a gingerbread backup from an ICS rom?

Is this possible? The full details are I had my phone stolen, and got a new one with android 4.0.4 on it. I have on my computer a copy of my latest backup of my old cognition gingerbread rom. Can I just use CWM to recover to my old rom, or do i need to first downgrade to a gingerbread rom, and then recover?
Thankyou very much for assistance
Edit: Also, I don't actually want to use the old rom, I just need the contacts it saved, afterwards I'll wipe everything and install a clean ICS mod. In case there's any way of doing this without having to revert
You'll probably need to restore the backup with a version of CWM close to the one the backup was made with, you can often have problems restoring if you're using a CWM version a lot (say 12 mths or more) newer than the one you made the backup with.
So I'd probably go GB/with a rooted GB kernel first, restore the backup & go from there. I mean, it could work first try with an ICS kernel that's running a recent CWM build, but there's a fair chance it won't.
Edit - And be really careful with stock 4.0.4, don't do a wipe while you're running that.
Wow. I just... wow.
Ok, so I did the stupid thing and just tried to restore my old backup without doing proper downgrading first and it ended up soft bricking my machine, couldn't get recovery mode up, but I got into download mode. So I downloaded my country's stock gingerbread rom from samsung's site and flashed it with odin just to see what happens, and somehow my old rom was working again, and I have all my contacts and data. saved everything up to google, upgraded to ICS, import.
Everything went better than expected.
Thanks for the help
Told you Important thing is you managed to fix it yourself without asking silly questions in Q&A. Not many people seem to be able to do that these days.
Well done. I'm glad you got it sorted
Edit -You're welcome

Custom rom installation

OK I've got a tablet here Mach Speed Trio Stealth Pro. Not main stream I know. I want to flash a rom to it. I've got the rom cm9_nightly_20120721 a file called gapps-ics-20120429-signed and lyf1_compatability_1.2.0 From what I've read I'm to intstall the rom first then gapps then compatability. I'm just not sure how to deploy it. I can put this tablet in recovery mode but only from within the OS. I've tried the button combo that's suppose to do it but all I get is a blue light but nothing on the screen. So hopefully this can be done in one swoop.
So should I put everything on the SDcard and then tell it update from sdcard and then choose the rom? I've never flashed a custom rom before so please forgive my noobness and my lowly tablet. After the rom is installed I'll have to be able to do the other 2 files before I boot because without them nothing will work. If this goes right I'll have a lot more functions when it's finished. Most notably bluetooth support.
Also I'd like to backup the factory rom first. Not sure how to do that either. I have the full version titanium backup and backed up all of the system files but I'm not sure that will get me back to stock if this goes wrong. I believe CWM is device specific so unless there's a generic version I'm out of luck there.
Thanks to all who bless this noob with knowledge.

[Q] I want to switch from stock ICS 4.0.3 to CM. I'm a total noob, need help.

Hi, this is my first post. I'm a total noob in customizing phones and since my phone is quite old, all the information I can find is years old, talking about file versions that don't exist anymore, or became outdated since there are so many different versions of android.
I have been trying to find a good guide to help me do the correct steps to follow to flash Cyanogenmod. I might try the latest 12.1, and then see if I like it.
This is what I have so far:
- international i9100, I live in panama if that's relevant to any help I need
- stock ICS 4.0.3 (with XWLP7 kernel)
- used superoneclick to root, it installed CMW PhilZ touch 6.0.1.7 (I think, can't remember the last digit.)
- used "galaxy s unlock" app to unlock the phone
I downloaded this: philz_touch_6.07.1-i9100 from d-h.st/hUX, sorry I can't post the links correctly for being a new user.
I just made a backup before i will attempt to load philz touch 6.07.1. I read that I need to have a kitkat compatible recovery, is this one compatible. Can I simply flash it or do I need to do anything specific before.
I am trying to follow the steps explained in wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_i9100, but the warnings scare me a bit, can someone please explain the workarounds, thanks.
So, what I'd like to know is the specific steps for my version of android to make it migrate to CM12.1, and what to do about the warnings (should i find a custom kernel, do i need to backup anything else, I read also that the recovery I have doesn't backup efs, so how can I do that?)
Thanks a lot for taking your time to help me out.
@milen_506
So when you reboot into recovery, you have philz recovery?
If yes, all you need to do is install a newer recovery such as the one from this post. Once you flash it, reboot straight back to recovery(you will get a bootloop if you try to reboot into the system). This newer recovery is compatible with the latest versions of android and gapps, so just need to have the rom .zip and gapps(if you want play store/services) .zip ready to flash before you upgrade this recovery. Do a nandroid backup before you flash the new rom/gapps
There are several ways to backup efs, HERE is a link to one option
And as far as custom kernels, you are probably better off sticking to the kernel that comes with the rom unless you are comfortable adjusting kernel settings and you know what you are doing. It would be easy to mess things up if you didin't have a basic knowledge of the changes. Also with cm12/LP roms on the S2, custom kernels are only starting to be developed and are a little unstable for some users at this stage.
