Niki ROM dump - Touch Dual, MDA Touch Plus ROM Development

Any updated howto? There's a page in the wiki listing some tool (the URL to that is dead now though), but it's unclear for me how to use it, even though it's described pretty detailed.
I want to dump my ROM because today, after many attempts, long searches and waiting I've finally gotten my ROM just the way I like it, and I want to be able to reflash it as is. I'm now using Sprite Backup (came free with my device), but that doesn't do a full ROM backup, so I'd have to flash back the ROM and then use Sprite Backup to restore my own stuff.
Any help on this would be really appreciated

I upgraded my device to a new ROM. I did full backup with SPB Backup when I had an old ROM. Will I still have the new ROM after restoring backup? Or it changes to old ROM?
One of the backup software can be used for ROM upgrading. Check the forum on the backup guide by Menneisyys (I think).
I have found only one backup software which have posibility restore after ROM ugrade, it was Sprite backup 5.1. I tried it. It works but very bugy... I was need reinstal all programs manualy...

did you follow the upgrade mode faq? most ppl dont thats why the restores buggy. If you follow the faq from start to finish (including backing up the oldROM without pop accounts) then the restore should be perfect after a ROM upgrade

Current ROM backup how to?

Hi everyone. I've been reading for a while and think I've now got enough threads, tools and comments to go ahead and upgrade my Vodafone Hermes to WM6 and one of the cooked ROMs arround.
My only concern is that I still do not have a clear picture about if it's possible to have a full backup of my current ROM as is today in the event my upgrade process is not succesfull (been positive here . I thought I could just pack my current ROM into my PC so I could later restore it but not at all sure how.
Any threads, links or tools would be appreciated. Thanks to everyone for their unvaluable work in this forum... what would we do without it!!!

Absolutely ! SPB Backup and Sprite - two packages I know off. I've being using SPB for quite a while now. It does a complete snapshot of your device an in case your new ROM installation does not go smooth or you simply are not happy with it - just reflash with the orginal base ROM and execute the backup.exe file to return to the point where you started from. So the important thing to remember - before doing anything - make sure you have the original distro base of a ROM you are running right now and if you'll be flashing your device - ensure you have Hard SPL installed.
what is distro base of current rom and also hard spl? Sorry... I am so new to this world of flash upgrades and everything... I am also unsure about the official "official" release of the ROM that was postedlast month for the 8525. First question is... If this doesnt work or I dont like it... can i reinstall the upgrade that will be coming out that is official?

it is very simple. Just do a search for hermes unlocker. The current version is v3a. Or just follow this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293665&page=2
You will have to download that unlocker application and follow the instructions. After that, hard SPL and unlocker will be installed automatically. Then you need to buy Sprite Backup software for PPC (there is no good hacked version out there) and backup the phone using that ROM backup feature. After backup is done, it is safe to proceed to ROM upgrade. I would strongly recommend to do the backup before the upgrade because it's much safer. It will save you a lot of troubles if something goes wrong.
SPB Backup does full rom?
I've read some bad comments about SPB backup. I though it only performed backup of data and config and not full ROM, but Moisha's comment sounds like I am not right and is valid to restore from a faulty ROM update.
In any case I understand those are the 2 options and there is no free software available. If that is the case the Sprite Backup looks better to me so I'll have to diff into it.
If I go ahead I'll try to post something about backups as I've not found much info for newbies like me and this is probably the first thing to be done.
Thanks.

how hard is this idea??? (kryos 7012)

i want to save my stock firmware and nand and build a restore for my tablet, and infact share it with the world... with a brand new stock coby kryos 4th gen tablet... and my wife has the same one, so i have 2... i searched google, and no hits came up for this specific device cause its somewhat new for the holiday season...
the pourpose here is to backup the stock tablet and provide information on how to restore... but how hard is this gonna be? and setup information provided in a specific order so data cannot be misunderstood.
first things on the list:
Provide android_usb driver, adb and VCT, fwnd info (confusion here is critical not to screw up!)
backup stock universal nand (for rescue restore)
backup stock kernel
backup stock recovery.img
backup stock boot.img
backup stock firmware
backup stock fwnd rom (for fresh stock install)
backup stock kernel drivers (for building custom kernel, chipset specific)
(ok, i learned most of that last night trying to restore my device, probly some stuff missing, but... that is a good start... if anything is missing let me know.
eventual objectives to accomplish:
super1boot root instructions
clockwork recovery boot mod (with recovery-install.sh info) instructions
market fix instructions
build custom rom
overclocking kernel/rom
and more!
i probly left a ton of stuff out.. yet again... i know some of this stuff, but need assistance... anyone able to help? im a pretty good coder and know a bit about android... but im not mister know it all,,,,
how hard does this project sound...

[Q] Using CWM to recover a gingerbread backup from an ICS rom?

Is this possible? The full details are I had my phone stolen, and got a new one with android 4.0.4 on it. I have on my computer a copy of my latest backup of my old cognition gingerbread rom. Can I just use CWM to recover to my old rom, or do i need to first downgrade to a gingerbread rom, and then recover?
Thankyou very much for assistance
Edit: Also, I don't actually want to use the old rom, I just need the contacts it saved, afterwards I'll wipe everything and install a clean ICS mod. In case there's any way of doing this without having to revert
You'll probably need to restore the backup with a version of CWM close to the one the backup was made with, you can often have problems restoring if you're using a CWM version a lot (say 12 mths or more) newer than the one you made the backup with.
So I'd probably go GB/with a rooted GB kernel first, restore the backup & go from there. I mean, it could work first try with an ICS kernel that's running a recent CWM build, but there's a fair chance it won't.
Edit - And be really careful with stock 4.0.4, don't do a wipe while you're running that.
Wow. I just... wow.
Ok, so I did the stupid thing and just tried to restore my old backup without doing proper downgrading first and it ended up soft bricking my machine, couldn't get recovery mode up, but I got into download mode. So I downloaded my country's stock gingerbread rom from samsung's site and flashed it with odin just to see what happens, and somehow my old rom was working again, and I have all my contacts and data. saved everything up to google, upgraded to ICS, import.
Everything went better than expected.
Thanks for the help
Told you Important thing is you managed to fix it yourself without asking silly questions in Q&A. Not many people seem to be able to do that these days.
Well done. I'm glad you got it sorted
Edit -You're welcome

Backup & Restore

I've flashed my phone a few times before, but the last time I've done so, Titanium Backup decided not to work, so I had a newly flashed ROM but no data to go with it. I backed up everything on my phone once (by means of copying&pasting all of the folders) on my computer, but putting them back on my phone didn't do anything.
Now I want to flash again, but I'm clueless as to what app I should be using to back up my phone, and which app would make it possible for me to have my data backed up. I know it sounds a bit vague, but basically, I'm looking to back up my phone so that when I clear everything and flash it, I'd like to restore my apps as well as the data along with it (like high scores in games). Does anyone have any idea what I should do? I currently backed up my current ROM (Android 4.3 and HTC Sense 5.0) with ROM Manager (v5.5.3.7), but I don't know if I can use that back up since I'm looking to flash Android 4.4.2 onto it.
Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks in advance!
EDIT: And I have one off-topic question... Should I flash gapps before or after flashing the ROM? I flashed gapps before and after last time and it worked fine, but I'm curious to know what the correct order is.
