I don't know if this is where this goes but I was wondering about the HTC view its not very much and I really want a tablet not a giant one but this one seems nice I just want some user expierences like how good it is or how well it preforms. Also the development is it very supported by devs or easy to root etc. Also if anyone knows of a better tablet within a 300$ limit and I know from sprint this is only like 250$ anyways hope to get some feedback.

I have had the View since launch, and I can say that it is a great tablet for all your basic internet browsing, book reading, games, and pretty much everything a tablet is intended to do.
The design is a lot better than a lot of the mostly plastic tablets out there. The scribe, while still missing a lot of functionality, has been useful for a few things.
Now, for the money you can get the Acer 7" WiFi only tablet running 3.2 for $200, but as far as a contract goes I think that the View is great.
I got mine for $250 with the scribe and only pay $35 a month (21% discount btw).
Now, as far as development goes, being as it's so different from the Flyer and only available on Sprint there are few View owners that do development, so if you're a flashaholic be prepared to go a long time without any updates, and no vanilla android. I've tried many launchers to make it look like HC without being satisfied.
Take into account these things and see where the View will fit in with your needs/wants. I don't regret the purchase.
Edit: Apparently an official HC release is imminent, so your wait for a completely new update won't be long.
I was actually thinking about the flyer I know for 16g its 299 and runs with a 1.5ghz processor and has official HC (I think) and seems to have a lot of support. I will be using it more as a gaming device I usually do emulators on my phone OC to 1.5ghz and it runs games smooth and does 4400 on quadrant but it does overrun and I know it won't last long if I push it so I wanted to get a higher end device I would be upgrading to the epic touch but no more special pricing is available. And this is only my first year.

The honeycomb version for our tablet had some show stopping bugs, so they are not releasing super soon btw. Just heard this but im not discouraged. It's being worked on and will be here before long

Man that sucks, but I'd rather it be right than wrong when they release it. If we could get a leaked version of it, regardless of the bugs, I know you could make it plenty stable. With the otterbox out now I'm loving my view more than ever.

Best 7" tablet for the price range
I love mine as well. I live out in the middle of nowhere and went with it instead of the flyer, quite by accident. I actually ordered a 32 gig flyer from amazon and the seller immediately emailed me stating it was a view with the pen, screen protectors and a case included so I didn't argue.
The only drawback is the wasteland that is our development and rom community. Apparently those subtle differences in radios are enough to add months to equivalent distributions.
I knew I wanted a 7" tablet. First, I pre-ordered a Kobo Vox, based on spec sheet, and the idea that the specs seemed comparable to my phone, an HTC EVO Shift, also running Gingerbread. Found out that I was wrong.
So, I then knew I wanted a faster, better 7" tablet. But didn't want to pay >$400! Not too many choices that also got good reviews. And, thinking about it, did want 3G/4G--if not tied to a really costly monthly contract--so as to have ubiquitous access. Quickly found that there were few choices from the carriers, and expensive contracts.
Ended up back @ Sprint, my phone carrier. They had the Flyer @ $249, and their cheapest data plan was, under what else I had on my contract with them, $20/month. That was a winner.
I am very pleased so far; it does everything I wanted it to do, and at a quite reasonable cost.
The real difference between the Flyer and the View is where you'll want to use it when away from your home or office WiFi: if bothered by the idea of finding WiFi when out and about, go with the View. If not, go with the Flyer. The hardware and operating system, I think you'll find, do what you want them to do.
Ill always have my epic with me so its a portable wifi hotspot everywhere I go so its equivalent to the view if I get the flyer however I won't have a monthly payment I have decied on the flyer just because the development it has and its universal thank you for all your help in my decision.

The biggest issue with the choice between flyer and view, currently, is availability. You might luck up on amazon like I did and find a view cheaper than you can get a flyer, without the attached service plans.

i was just wondering, do you think the Jetstream will get ICS?
HTC announced the other day of the first wave of devices that will get it..the Jetstream wasn't on that list. i know not all hope is lost, but i fear they won't update it. and it needs to be updated, the 3.1 is simply the worst.
so, what do you think?

I have no doubt we will get it. HTC is one of the manufacturers that promised to support android updates for 18 months after a product is released.

I would be quite surprised and disappointed if the Jetstream wasn't one of the first devices to see ICS. System wide stylus support and better media and social integration would seem to me to align quite well with HTC's goals to have a stand-out device. In it's current configuration the Jetstream just seems eccentric and inefficient. Some of the best hardware being smothered by its software. The removal of h.264 support, the rather ho hum browser and mail apps and lack of quality applications to take advantage of scribe (notes and PDFviewer are rather miserable,) really hamper what could be a stand-out device (in a way other than price.) Here's to hoping some ice cream sandwiches are sufficient to reverse this hypoglycemic techno shock.

and you can actually feel the device suffering with it.
i'm affraid htc won't bother to update it because they only have a couple of tablets, both of them are not best sellers...
i'd be less anxious about it if we had a root access or at least an unlocked bootloader. but htc are taking their sweet time with that as well.

Couldn't agree more. It seems like the few of us that bought this device are going to be stuck with what it shipped with - no dev support and no HTC support. Hope I'm wrong too...
As someone who is on the fence about buying this device, the lack of support concerns me. Of course we could all be wrong and htc will support it.
It's unfortunate htc gave this device to AT&T. Can AT&T be charged with tablet-slaughter? I don't think there is a device on the market that compares and won't until sometime after February 2012, at least from an artist's perspective. So I could wait six months or just get one. There will always be a new device coming and if I keep waiting I may never get anything.
Here's hoping htc supports the Jetstream.

The thing is I don't plan to root the device. I just want it for sketchbook pro, photoshop touch and general web browsing.

Then you will love it. I have no doubt. Haven't worked with PS touch, but sketchbook pro is amazing on the jetstream with the stylus..

The Jetstream has all the makings of an orphan. It's only been released (via the carriers) in the U.S. and Canada. I'd guess total sales to be below 50K units total. There was never a Wi-Fi version released and it was never offered through retail channels - the exact opposite of the Flyer. HTC's already announced the quad-core Quattro 10.1 tablet for Q1 2012 in both 3G and Wi-Fi versions. Also, AT&T's just started selling an LTE G-Tab 8.9 with the same processor that's in the Jetstream for a lot less money. They're also throwing in a free Skyrocket as part of the launch which certainly is more aggresive than a free Scribe pen. I think the Jetstream's days are numbered and if it does get ICS its low volume certainly wouldn't put it at the top of HTC's list.

i'm not sure they can abandon it alltogether. i have no hope from at&t mainly because i don't live in the USA.
HTC must support it in one way or another...i just hope that it won't end in a 3.2 version in 6 monthes from now.
it s-o expensive, and to have spent so much money and be ignored pisses me off.

Because it was never sold retail, any updates will only be made available by and through the carriers not HTC directly. As for ICS, I'd guess it depends how much of the work on the Quattro can be easilly ported to the Jetstream and how willing AT&T is to accept the training and documentation liability when so few units were sold.

If I'm not mistaken, the Jetstream had a 6 month or so exclusivity agreement with the carriers prior to being able to be launched through any other channels.... Not sure what will change but we shall see.

This concerns me about the Jetstream. I really wish there were a way for the consumer to be protected for some amount of time. I just bought one and I like it pretty well. It's decently fast, but so far I think I like my HTC Flyer better!
At least I have 2 weeks if I want to return it. I'm not happy about all the "bloatware" that's included in the device. I wish there were a way to do an "HTC" only install of Honeycomb without all the AT&T junk.

I'd return it. If you're OK with Wi-Fi only, I'd wait a month or two as Asus, Lenovo, and Acer have already announced quad-core tablets the latter two come with 2MB of RAM and 1900x1200 displays. If you want a carrier tablet, I'd get the LTE G-Tab 8.9 that launched today. It's got the same processor as the Jetstream, costs a lot less, has a great dev community, is confirmed to get ICS, has a bunch of available accessories, and will have better resale value if you want to sell it. AT&T's running a promotion starting today that offers a free Skyrocket with purchase. I'm using a UK G-Tab 10.1 3G that I bought after I returned my Jetstream and I like it a lot.

The bigggest thing for me, is there aren't other tablets that have the active digitizer. That's really why I got the Jetstream. Sure there are more tablets coming, but I don't think they will be really good until we get Windows 8 and wacom active digitizer, but that's a year away. I need a portable sketching machine for a year. This is the best there is unfortunately. Am I missing something? Is there something better with an active digitizer?

that's what i thought. i really wanted an electronic notebook to help me with my studies.
so i took the jetstream for the same reason.
the built-in apps for pen are pretty worthless.
you would probably use an external app that would also run on any other tablet. you should try playing with a simpler tablet using a stylus pen (there are some generic kinds. with fatter tips, but far cheaper) and see how that works for you.

The Flyer and Jetstream are the only two tablets even half way decent at pen entry. The Galaxy Note actually has a Wacom digitizer and is excellent for drawing and note taking but I'm guessing it's too small for your needs. ICS is supposed to support pen entry natively but we'll have to see how good it ends up being.
Thanks for the suggestion of the Lenovo thinkpad tablet. I was actually trying to choose between that device and the Jetstream. I chose the Jetstream because I felt like their quality was higher. There have been tons of reports of bad thinkpad tablets.
Galaxy Note was on my list for a new phone, but I think it's too small for what I want. I have some days to return the Jetstream so I will continue to try it out. Also, I noticed there has been a price drop at AT&T to $749 plus a $50 gift card rebate.
I still think maybe AT&T butchered this tablet with sloppy apps and tasks. It's not as fast as it should be. My HTC Flyer seems more responsive.

I am sure I will be turning to you all at some point for what do do with the second system and how best to customize it. I hope that at some point ICS will be available too through customization.

I just bought a Kindle Fire and put CM7 on it. So far I love it but this deal has me seriously considering selling the KF and picking up the Evo View.

I am running CM7 on the Kindle Fire as well. I don't think it is that snappy at all. I am actually thinking the single core 1.5ghz processor will seem faster plus the 1gig of ram should help as well.
This device offers so much more then the KF at this price it cannot be passed up. With the addition of a front and back camera, bluetooth, 32 gigs of memory, official honeycomb update, that is enought to satisfy me. Plus nothing will seem as snappy as my Epic 4G touch anyway, even the KF with it's dual core isn't even in the same league as E4GT.
I'm wondering if I should pick one up or wait for the new Asus tablet, the 370T

Really considering this deal. I have a Nook Tablet and I really wish it had a front camera, working bluetooth, and to some extent, GPS. I do however really like the screen on the NT. How's the screen on the View? Can you move off center in all directions and it still looks great? Poor performance in the screen is the kind of fundamental niggle I just can't live with. How about responsiveness? Is the GUI relatively fluid?
wow I was wondering if that deal would ever come again. great tablet. I had a nook tablet before the view, but I just couldn't stand not having the real android market and I envied the stylus input. I'd say the screen is exceptionally responsive and fluid when compared to the nt. It really feels like a $500-$700 tablet slashed down to $230. its a steal. I almost want to buy a backup tablet in case anything happens to this one.

If it does everything I need, I will go with the View. How thick/heavy is it compared to Fire? I wasn't impressed with how heavy the Fire was.

I had the NT, even rooted it with your MAC script. I liked it a lot but could not live with the fussing around regarding the OTA update. B&N's stance on hacking their device has really soured my taste toward them so I returned it. I picked up a WiFi Flyer and haven't looked back. The screen is basically the same as the NT, just as good, if not better viewing angles. However, the NT has slightly less glare. The responsiveness is at least as good as the NT if not better. I even like the overall feel of the Flyer over the NT. It isn't as thin, but it feels stronger and better made. Anyways, I can pretty much guarantee you won't miss the NT at all.
What are the chances this thing will get ICS? Rather official, or CM9 support?
The price for this tablet is great, but if this tablet won't have ICS I'm going to wait awhile for the new tablets to come out.
View eats all other 7-8" tablets for breakfast.

I concur. I have Both the KF & HTC EVO View 4g and the View is Much, Much faster and snappier than the KF. I LOVE it since HC was put on and the Stylus works soooooo much better since HC. I use the View all the time AND I have a Xoom WiFi WITH ICS and still use the View more because I can Write to the SD Card whenever I want. Whereas my Xoom is a GED Device and even thou it has ICS there still is NO Write ability to the SD Card Internally, which to me gimps the device. I put a PNY 32GB Class 10 in my View for Extra Storage and have a Otterbox Defender on it. Awesome Device.
DON'T get caught up in the Dual Core vs Single Core issue with this device. HTC Optimized the View Magnificently with Sense and HC that it's really FAST and Buttery Smooth.
I just ordered mine. I was sorta reluctant, because I am not a fan of Sense. I currently have an Acer Iconia A100 that I got from Best Buy for $180. I will give the View 4G a shot (fingers crossed that CM will hit this thing). I just know that one tablet will be on the Craigslist soon. Also, I read this review after making the purchase:

Sprint has updated their end of life list... And it now includes the View...
Is this a sign of the death of this tablet as a hole? Flyer is barely sold and the View is EOL...

All electronics have a limited lifecyle. The problem with the Flyer and View isn't that they reached EOL so soon, but rather that:
1) The tablets were priced too high, and so sales weren't as robust as HTC would have liked
2) HTC was too slow in porting Honeycomb. In fact, the Honeycomb upgrade pretty much coincided with the tablets being discontinued. Contrast that with the ASUS Transformer Prime, that was released only a few weeks ago (and is still scarce) and already has an ICS upgrade.
EOL doesn't mean much to me. Heck, it might even be a good thing it they release the complete source code.
I mean my captivate is not only EOL, it isn't even sold anymore at all... I still have ICS on it the Galaxy Nexus even hit retail.
Biggest tragedy imho is if something happened to my flyer I wouldn't be able to get another one..
I think it has more to do with the fact that sprint is moving to LTE and they will stop selling all wimax products this year. They will only have their wimax networks online until 2015. Maybe that's why they gave me mine for $0.99. And no activation fee.
It only means sprint wont sell or support it any longer.. (No updates, patches, etc..)
For all those who scooped up the 1saleaday deal (in early December or the one last week ). This is why you got a great deal (I got 3 of em). Sprint wanted to dump them before they had to sell them for $100. Even if you use sprint.. this means nothing. It will still work and (I'm pretty sure) you can still activate it.
If you plan to use it as wifi only (like me).. then this means less than nothing.
XDA Devs offer WAY better support and upgrades than any carrier.
Don't worry. My team (CypherTeam) will be working on an ICS port as soon as we get a final HC build finished. The view will live on and as others stated, reaching EOL just means that we'll get the source faster and be able to do whatever we want.
It really doesn't come as a surprise to me that it came so quickly bc the specs on the View/Flyer are not up there with the majority of tablets. That being said, with the source we should be able to get this thing running close to 2ghz with no issues.
I didn't pay $99, I paid $0.99 or 99 cents. I couldn't believe it was that cheap. I had to have a plan to get it that cheap, but I have 6 business lines now, so the 15% discount makes the tablet plan end up being free, and I use it pretty much exclusively wifi anyway.

Yea HTC definitely dropped to ball with the pricing of it.
Our tablet is still awesome, single core but comparative in speed to dual core tablets out there in the market.
I'm really happy with my purchase.. now I wish we had more dev interest around for our devices
Yeah they were priced as high as a dual core 10 inch honeycomb tablet yet only had a single core, gingerbread, and a 7 inch screen. Don't get me wrong I prefer the 7 inch size, but not for the same price as a bigger tablet. I mean honestly with its high clock speed and 1 gig of ram, it feels as fast as any dual core tablet and I think it could of been a hit had htc priced it at say $300 at launch.
Imo I think they shouldn't be so quick to give up on them. I think they should update them to ics and sell them new for $200. I guarantee it would be a hit especially over the craptastic kindle fire!

In all fairness to HTC the tablet out right feels like a 500$ tablet.. which is what made the 300$ price tag so sweet.
My girlfriend ordered one off of ebay just yesterday because her Nook Color just doesn't compare. She uses it too much like a tablet and even after loading CM7 and what not on it, is just tired of constantly fixing issues..
The tablet has a premium feel and if they could make profit at 200$ I would think they would have already priced it at 200$..
The acer A100 is an alternative to the flyer at 250$ and as cheap as 200$.. It sure as hell doesn't feel like the flyer and lacks a lot of the refinement. The problem is now, even at 200$ people would look at the specs and never even try it out before looking down on it.
People are more concerned with specs than actual experiences these days.. (well in the phone world at least.. in the desktop world specs mean a bit more).. It really is sad that because of marketing techniques and the way devices are sold that the flyer gets over looked..
I finally bought my Flyer yesterday. Though there were many choices in the same price range (including iPad 2), I had made up my mind due to the no-nonsense spec.s, solid build & of course, the pen! And I must say, I am thoroughly impressed by this baby..looking forward to being a part of the XDA Flyer community..

I also started with the nook color as my first tablet.
Quickly sold it though because I got a hell of a deal with the HTC flyer.
I recommend flashing the CM7 ROM directly to the emmc/hard disk on the NC. Don't rely on the microSD card.
I had issues too until I did this.

I have a Flyer, which I bought (as many people did) around Christmas-time for $200. I use it quite often, to read pdfs, play games, bring with me to use wireless (I don't have a phone). I like it for what it is.
However, that said, I would not recommend dropping $200 for one right now. Maybe if you can grab one for $150 (there was mention of a deal like that in the general forum). Development by HTC on the Flyer has pretty much stopped, with no plans to go forward. There is some nice development going on by XDA members (like Lee's LeeDroid), but beyond that, not much more.
In my opinion, the biggest sign of the problem is with the well-known GPS problem on Honeycomb, which does not allow the device to maintain a lock. HTC is aware of the problem, but there is no fix (nevermind a statement that a fix is in progress). That's a statement of the official development going on. Other problems for me is the hurried HTC Scribe pen integration; some XDA members have created better programs (Quill and Papyrus, for instance), but again, the lack of care by HTC is apparent. The pen feature was rushed, and it shows. XDA members and development are keeping this device afloat, but that's the only reason.
It's a competitive market right now in the tablet market, and unless you have a real winner, then products will be quickly phased in and out. The HTC, as much as I hate to admit it, because as I said, I do make use of mine quite a bit...has been on its way out ever since December 2011 when the prices got slashed.
This is a hard choice for me. I like being able to hack up things, and test out roms. I was told to get this, but I will be getting a new Job soon. Paying much better, and that ASUS Prime is calling me. I just want a tablet for now, and the Kindle Fire seems the best choice. I can complile ICS, and use a 3.0 Linux kernel. :T Why's it so hard to do this. Being a ROM junkie sucks.

the fire is a piece of junk in comparison. If all you want is a compilled ics then ok, but every aspect of the flyer is superior to the fire and nook

+1 to that. I bought the Flyer a few weeks after its release for $599 and don't regret a single penny spent. In the Flyer, you are paying $200 for a $599 high quality tablet. That's a bargain, no matter how you look at it. Buying a Fire, you are just getting a crappy cheapo $200 tablet for $200. The Fire has so many features missing, its not even funny (cameras, SD slot, GPS, microphone, Bluetooth, compass, gyro).

I just bought one and love it. I love the scribe integration
(though dont drop 50-80 on the HTC pen, Get the fujitsu pen $20-30 and does the same thing.)
I will end up putting the photoshop touch app on it, not the free express one.
the 7 in form factor is perfect for me. I had a xoom and liked it for a while but it gets really heavy and hard to hold in one hand.
so the flyer feels much better in one hand, assuming you dont have toddler hands.
the CPU is adequate for anything i could throw at it, and can OC as well.
gpu is pretty good so games wont be a problem. as for n64oid, It would all depend on the game that youre emulating. most devices can handle mario64 and zelda and mariocart. hit or miss really. but its been a while since ive used n64oid (since i picked up a used n64 from my local game store
camera is mediocre. My SGS2 has a better one so i wont use it to take pics or videos but will use the front one for video chat.
im not concerned about GPS issues either, my phone does it.
all in all, I want something that i can use easily when my phones dying and needs to charge, or dont feel like looking at my phones small screen anymore for long web browsing sessions and the 7in form factor and the scribe is def a deal breaker.
So, do you think the Flyer/View is outdated/slow/etc. or a fine, great tablet?
Or even, are you getting a new tablet to work alongside it?
And why?
Personally, I got the Flyer just at the end of August and enjoying using it since day 1. Liked the experience on Gingerbread, but now I realize how much better it is on Honeycomb (and soon it may get better thanks to ROM cookers and Jelly Bean), and I if someone would offer me to get any new tablet that is currently on the market - I certainly wouldn't rush to the nearest tech store, and I'm considering keeping the Flyer for a coming year/year and a half (maybe less, don't know yet). If I am to get a new tablet - it would probably be N7 or some of the medium-end/high-end Acer 10" tablets. Samsung is simply not my choice at all.
If there was any hope of getting ICS or Jellybean on the Flyer/View in the foreseeable future I'd stick with my View, but that doesn't seem too likely. I've got my eye on the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1.
I'm kinda curious about the iPad mini that may be coming out in October. If its good and competitively priced for a 7", I might consider it just for the support and updates. I became fatigued with the anticipation, worry, and letdown that is HTC. I still can't play videos from AOL homepage and the HuffingtonPost website basically freezes my tablet- I had to learn what websites I can and can't use with my View HC. I just want my stuff to work, that's all I ask- especially when all I'm doing is surfing the internet. If apple really listened and shrunk the iPad to a more convenient size, I will reward them with my money. Now, if they would just team up with wacom for the perfect stylus. I initially overlooked apple because it couldn't play flash videos, but now that apparently flash is being phased out and apple products can play most internet videos and content, I'm willing to consider their products again.
The flyer serves my needs but my experience with it will keep me from buying from HTC again

Jumped on an Acer A500 on Redtag.com that works fairly well for sub-$200 (refurbed). It's not my daily tool though; the Flyer still rarely leaves my side. But for multi-media/light gaming needs, the A500 is doing nicely. But I won't take a 10" tablet on public transporation in the city; that's asking to become a statistic (IMO).
The 7" is still perfect for ebook reading, keeping up on emails and social networks, and not only is it 3G, I can tether it to my phone for 4G connectivity.
I think and option is missing from the poll; "Getting a new one to work alongside the Flyer."

The flyer really suits my needs, small Tab with pen. But Honeycomb is full of issues. And the other problem is, I can't afford to buy every year a US$500 tablet. And even now after HTC "broke" it, the resell prices are also bad for the Flyer.
Well I can't remember ever felt such a disappointment with a company so, I'm going to avoid HTC. Also the people next to me,
In future I'm just going to buy Nexus devices, I think they offered the best customer experience

New tablets may be $400+, but refurbs are around the $200 mark. I laid my hands on a refurbed A500 16GB for less than $200 shipped. The coolest thing about this tablet is the full-sized USB port on the side that pushes enough juice to power a 2.5" SATA drive. It's an older processor, but ICS works nicely.
The bottom line is to get a new tablet you don't need to buy new to get decent performance, nor do you need to buy every year.

How about A510?
They didn't have any A510 at the time, though it's this year's model, so probably not a lot on the refurbed market yet.
I have not been been looking for a new tablet. However, if Google releases a 32gb nexus 7 for $250, i will probably go for it.
PS They might also also be releasing a 4G version at the end of October.

Well my brother has a nexus 7, i tried it and its awesome!!!
But i can do everything i need to do with my flyer. of course flyer can be better, hope for a new update from htc (yeah no ics, but didnt they say they still gonna give support? dunno how , just hoping) or a good custom rom ics/jb.
im not aware of the tablets these days, except for the nexus.
next tablet? dont know. gonna fly till it dies haha.
would be nice if in the future there will be a nexus with pen functions like flyer.

Already sold the Flyer for 150 euro and bought the Nexus 7. I will surely get the OTA for the next 2 years. No need for rooting,

Yeah $329 was quite disappointing. No way I can justify it when the wifi only model is that expensive. I'll probably look into the nexus 7. Although, I started using an internet browser app that has given my View 4g hope. It's called Puffin and its pretty fast and plays all the flash I throw at it. Another plus for the View 4g is that I can use the Sprint Zone app and purchase the no contract/commitment data plan- hopefully that's just like prepaid. As for the nexus 7, I was disappointed that it doesn't natively support flash, have a microSD card slot, or have HDMI out. But it's still a great tablet, especially if they sell it for $99 for an 8gb model.
I just bought a galaxy note 2 to replace my galaxy nexus and it looks like it will replace my HTC flyer too. It does have a smaller screen but it is much more friendly and has a few more features that the flyer does not.
