Hi, I just got a hand me down samsung fascinate to replace my barely functioning OG Droid. I rooted it and installed rom manager and it kept failing the custom rom installation or any installation of anything from recovery manager. It kept saying the signature verification failed if I remember the error code correctly. That was with the 3e recovery software. I read a few posts that said the older 2e version would work better with rom manager.
So I used odin and reverted to an older software revision, 2.1-update1. That successfully shows 2e as the recovery manager version. But now the market doesn't show rom manager(free) as an install option, premium shows up though. If I use the web browser to look at the market and look for it it shows up but it shows four devices, my old droid, a nook I rooted and converted for a friend, and then two devices that just show a question mark and doesn't allow them to be selected for installation. I thought thats ok I'll just download it from clockwork mods website and install it manually. I downloaded it but astro opens it and shows no info, details tab says it cannot open RomManager.apk as APK file. If I open it with file manager it says it cannot parse package. I tried downloading it on my computer and transferring it to my phone and it still says the same thing.
So I'm really confused as to what is going on. I do have install non market stuff checked.
I was hoping someone could give me some advice. I want to install miui as that was what I ran on my droid and liked it. Want to see how it runs on a faster phone.
Thanks in advance hopefully I provided enough information and didn't miss something simple.
When you were on Froyo, did you install the modified 3e Recovery needed for CWM to stick? I'm sure this is your problem if you didnt take this step.
Here is a link to the thread with everything you will need. If you have additional problems, dont hesitate to ask!
Hope this helps!
BTW: 1. Dont worry about this being for the infuse. It will work fine & 2. These types of threads should go in the Q&A section, for future reference
Rom manager is pointless unless you run cm7 nightlies. Get the recovery fixed for cm7 (first post of jt's cm7 thread in development) put miui rom on sd. Pull batt, flash fixed cm7 recovery in odin, insert battery (don't boot), 3 finger to recovery and flash miui. Profit.
good day.
First thank you for the replies very appreciated.
Tone_Capone I was going to try your method first. You are correct when I was on the updated firmware I did not flash the "fixed" 3e recovery did not realize there was one. My question now is I'm currently at 2e recovery, on the older firmware. Can I still follow those directions and put the modified 3e recovery onto the phone how it is. Or does the modified file count on other files being in place that I don't have since I'm downgraded? Do I need to update it again? I hate to ask but I just want to make sure.
chopper the dog Sorry about wrong section, thought q and a would be for commonly asked questions and the answers for them. I was gonna try this method then but I'm not sure if I choose bootloader in odin or pda like I did when downgrading the firmware.

refer to section 3...just replace ics rom with miui... although honestly I would go with ics 4.0

thanks everyone, droidstyle I followed your links directions and miui is up and running. Very appreciated. I considered ics but I'll wait a while.

Glad we got it figured out.
Just for future reference, It is customary of this forum that if someone were to find a post helpful, go ahead and hit the thanks button on their post. Some guys take this very seriously.

On day 2 of getting this phone over a month ago I did the lagfix from the file named RyanZAEXT2LagFix.zip and I also rooted so I could get rid of Bing and use wireless tether. I got the OTA update from Verizon and wasn't going to apply it but I did by accident (while taking it out of my pocket). So now my phone is sluggish and sometimes apps take longer than they should to start up.
I've searched and I may have found what I need to do but I'm not sure because I'm a noob (obviously). There are a few threads in this forum that I've found might be my solution but I can't post links in my thread to show you guys because this is my first post and it won't let me.
I want to return my phone to day 1 conditions, I only renamed apps I didn't want originally so I guess I can re-root and rename them back to .apk files (if needed?).
If there is a thread on this then please just point me to it, I have been looking but I'm just not sure which process is the right one to take.
Thanks, sorry that I'm a noob.
Did you happen to install CWM when you rooted the phone? If you did look here.

If you haven't yet, do so now then follow the first links instructions
Here is the link for CWM

Don't you have to flash a kernel? Or will doing this work? Or how about this ?
Thanks guys, I think (after more searching and from what was suggested here) that I should re-root, flash clockwork, then take a clean rom and flash it on there. Any thing I should know that wouldn't come obvious? Do I need to rename my bing app back to .apk?
Thanks.
Also, since root was taken away when I updated, to re-root is it the same process as in
forum.androidcentral.com/fascinate-roms-hacks/33899-how-root.html
or does the process change since it got rooted/un-rooted?
edit: nevermind, rooted it no problem.
I just rooted my first android, obviously the TBolt.
I am very new to this. I may have touched 'Command' maybe once before this. I rooted manually with the help of everyone on this site and others. Everyone has been very helpful with this whole process, but now I'm stuck.
I want to flash a rom and kernel from Das BAMF 1.1
I download the rom and kernel, put the rom on my sd root and open with Rom Manager but it does not seem to take.
So i tried to open the kernel but putting that on the sd and hboot, right? The bootloader seems to read it but does not do anything with it. I'm assuming I'm suppose to be seeing what was going on when i rooted my phone.
If you need any other info, i'll be more than happy to provide that for you.
I would have posted in the development part of the forum but this is my first post on this site.
Thanks in advance. Would really appreciate the help. What's the point of root if i can't put a custom rom onto my TBolt?
I just loaded the ROM and went about it the same way you're trying.
Make sure you have PG05IMG.zip on the root of your SD (with that exact name). When you load into hboot, it *should* automatically detect it and start running through the process, you shouldn't have to hit anything. After it checks some files you should see something along the lines of "Do you want to start update? <vol up> yes <vol down> no".
If it hangs at any point you might want to try downloading it again. After you get the kernel loaded you can flash the rom file via RomManager from your SD Card.
Also, maybe throw a picture up of what you're seeing if the above doesn't seem to help.
Thank for the response!
Actually, after being so fed up with trying to get the zip to load with hboot, i decided to take another dive the manual way and fastboot the boot.img kernel through adb. It worked great! I checked the kernel after rebooting and it said that match 1st date that was in the file.
So, now I need to find a way to get the rim zip file on the phone. I downloaded the 1.2 version and I still get the same thing as before. I open clockwork recovery and install from sd and it says installation aborted.
Any ideas?

What do you mean by that? How are you selecting install from sd but you don't have the file on the SD?

Sorry! I typed all of that on my phone on my break. I mean to flash the rom zip file. It is on my sd card and I can see it when I boot into recovery but the installation aborts.
This is what I'm talking about...
I have a feeling this is not the first time someone has run into this.
There's probably some simple fix but since this is a new phone, there really isn't too much info on ROMs yet.
If anyone cares... i did it!
I used the one click root the first time and either i missed a step or there was a corrupted file somewhere because it's better now with the manual root.
I whiped the whole phone, rooted completely manually and all is well.
Also, the Das ROM installed properly.
thanks for everyone's help!
Hey all.
I need to find an early version (< v3.x) of Clockworkmod and install it. Anyone know where I can find it?
I'm trying to update my radio as I've 3G most of the time, (I think after installing Root Call Blocker Pro), and I can't update my radio because I've updated CWM to 5.0.2.0 and now I can't flash Amend scripted .zips. It will only flash Edify scripted .zips. I've used amend2edify script with no success and have given up trying to convert the script. I just want to flash an early CWM so I can flash the Amend scripted radio.
So, does anyone know where I can find one??? I kinda really need 3G!!!
Well, your English seems pretty flawless from what you've written. Have you read the forum rules about posting questions in the Q & A section?
Unfortunately, my idea is illegal and would bring me into jail. You're on your own, kid.
Use rom manager ;-) there you have the option to flash older recoveries.

Last option (bottom) in ROM Manager is to flash old recoveries. Press that one then select the recovery you need (say 2.x). Flash your radio then update again CWM from ROM Manager to the latest version. I just did that for the same reason (flashing another radio) and it worked. Some CWM are giving me errors though when selected for download but you can try one that works. For the purpose of flashing a new radio any 2.x version should be good enough.
Here is how i did it
I hat the same problem when i tried to flash an rom.
copy the atached in youre sd card. Power the phone with volume down key, enter in recovery (if it shows an exclamation sign press volume up + power). am menu should open, select apply update from card am you shoul have now clockwork mode 2...
I actually looked at the ROM Manager but was looking in the wrong area! I thought it was in the CWM section but it kept on wanted to update. My bad. I have now dropped to 2.x and updated my radio and Cyanogen. I was getting a headache looking around for converting scripts!
Thanks all!
Hello all!
So, after successfully flashing CM7 onto my LG Optimus One, after using a (very) simplified guide, the whole process has become a bit clearer. But as I am still a newbie, I will still need some help.
I would like to put CM7 on my Galaxy Player 4.0. I have seen the thread, but I have a few questions before I start.
One, the sticky in the dev section for CM7 on the 4.0 says I need to make some sort of back up with Odin/Heimdall. Well. I know what Odin is, I bought it from the marketplace only to realize that my device is incapable of running it, and after the dump file is created, I don't really know what to do with it. Any help, please?
Also, I downloaded CWM Recovery (I assume this is okay to use to flash CM7 on my device?), but when I tell the application to flash the recovery, it gives me a list of devices to choose from...the Galaxy Player 4.0 isn't listed. Does it matter which one I choose?
These next two I am seriously confused about. The prep instructions say to have a good kernel handy. Is this something that I'm going to flash onto my device? Install? Copy over? Or is it something that I'm going to do with whatever Odin/Heimdall is? Also, the instructions say to verify MD5 on the device...and I have no idea what that means.
Could anybody please, please clarify these for me? I just trying very hard to avoid any damage to my device.
Anyways, thank to anybody who posts any help, its highly appreciated.

Ok so first don't flash CWM using the rom manager. Instead download this kernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1377771(I recommend 2.1 over 3.0 because people reports bootloops in 3.0). Flash it using odin or heimdall. Then if you want, make a backup using CWM. then download CM7 from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1527576&page=13 Flash and enjoy!
But as the red warning says: FOR DEVS AND EXPERTS ONLY. So if you don't know if you are doing don't flash it.
Thanks! But I'm still confused as to how to get Odin to work considering the Galaxy Player 4.0 isn't a supported device. Also the MD5 verification is still foreign as to what it is. I know it says only for devs, but I'm sick of the stock os on the player, and as seeing what CM7 can do on my Optimus One, I'm eager to get it on my player.

You check the MD5 with a md5 check program to see if it matches. Also to use odin check on google or youtube. and for the rom manager app. koush just don't support it.
Thanks a ton, I'll start looking up the Odin issue.
Okay guys, I've been trying to do all of my research and think I've got it pretty well sorted out but just want to verify.
I'm new to android. The last android phone I messed around with was the gf's Droid Eris which I put Froyo on like 3 years ago.
I got my GS4 and was excited to find how easy you can flash custom recoveries with apps from the market. I installed ROM Manager and flashed CWM. I was surprised when it didn't really work and have since done my research to find that ME7 breaks all that. I'm rooted and everything is cool but I'm trying to take the OTA update to MI1.
I know I need to restore the stock recovery, the question is, how? I've found threads for other phones that says you can flash "recovery.img" from the OTA update in the cache folder. I don't see recovery.img. I see a recovery.sh but no recovery.img.
So I found this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2357235&highlight=stock+recovery and downloaded the .zip in the first post. I found a recovery.img file in this tar file. Is this what I need to flash to my phone? If so how? My guess is with Odin? If so is it the PDA slot (everyone always asks which slot)?
I've seen a lot of people say "flash stock me7" but I'd rather not have to do that. I guess I could just flash stock MI1 but once again I'd rather not have to completely wipe the phone, nor do I see why you would have to wipe the whole phone if you can flash recoveries without wiping the phone.
Thank you all for your help. Sorry if there's already a thread for this, if there is please just point me in the right direction. I'm surprised ROM Manager doesn't have some kind of option to "restore recovery" or something like that.
I also see talks of RUU but that looks like an HTC thing? Thanks again.

I suppose that would work, but my phone's not bricked and I'm not trying to restore any kind of factory settings. I just want to restore the stock recovery. A lot of people appear to have problems and have to wipe their phones anyway doing that it looks like.
Bump. No one? Really? I'm just looking for someone to confirm whether or not this is correct. At least I didn't just ask the question without doing the research.

I was rooted so I had to restore stock to get the OTA update. I used the thread that Riker attached below your original message and it worked fine for me. It doesn't matter that your phone is not bricked, this method will Odin flash a stock image onto your device.
Good luck.:good:
Just seems like overkill to flash the entire thing (no wipe or not). Okay, thanks all.
