Hey guys, I ordered my Atrix 4G and I have a few questions before I get it. I looked through some of the threads and I'm a little confused.
1) I know this phone has motoblur. Are there any ROMs which don't have motoblur preinstalled?
2) Does "unlocking" on this phone mean the unlock of bootloaders, or a carrier unlock?
3) Where are the root procedures for this phone? I didn't see any -_-
4) Any tips on using this phone?
Thanks in advance
I'm coming from a Samsung Galaxy S 4G so this is a whole new game for me.
As far as Roms without MotoBlur, I'm not really aware of any. Motoblur is not as bad IMO as what some folks think. I use it and it's fine with me. However, if you put the new Gingerbread software on it it actually gives you an option to skip the Motoblur activation if you don't want to use it. Yes, there are some custom ROMs that are starting to become available. There are also psuedoroms for the phones that do not have the unlocked bootloader. ( I highly recommend KennethPenn's GingerBlur if you don't want to unlock the bootloader. Search for it in the developer's section of the forum.) Yes, you can now unlock the bootloader on the Atrix. As far as rooting the device, it's very easy to do. You will find that the XDA forum has much better and more in depth answers than what I can give you. My biggest advice to you regarding this forum is USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION!!! I promise you, any possible question you could ever have about this device is answered on this forum. Enjoy your Atrix, it's a Bad-A phone!!
Are there plans to create a Telus forum?
I have both a Samsung Galaxy S T959D and a Galaxy S 4G T959P. When I go looking for answers in "like" phones I normally get told that this is not the place to ask or did you search the forums? I would be nice to have one place for Telus related issues. All I want to do is root my phone but I have talked to other Telus users that have used the forums and wrong software and failed miserably.
Thanks and Best Regards.
For rooting your phone, I'd suggest you go to the respective forum for your devices.

Hi System,
That is just it, there is no forum for anything Telus specifically for me Samsung T959P or D. From what I have read, the hardware is different for this phone and has the potential to become a paper weight if we use advise from phones that look like ours but the different internals.
Maybe someone has already asked the question for your specific device? Try the search function with your device version. If nothing appears, maybe specify it in your question.
If you can't get help on a Galaxy S forum, I don't know where else
The thing is if XDA created specific forums for each carrier branded phone it would get quite cluttered.
Okay System, I understand, but I had to give it a try. I probably just have to wait a while. The update came out on Saturday from 2.2 to 2.3.4 so eventually someone will figure it out.
Thanks for your time. You can close the thread.
Hey Friends,
I guess most of you guys have already heard about that little tracking software that your carrier or Samsung have probably installed on our Galaxy S II phones, as well as almost all the other Android phones. (For more on that spyware and what it does:
http://www.theverge.com/2011/11/30/2601695/carrier-iq-controversy
So, now that I'm a little concerned about my privacy, the following question comes to my mind: Can we uninstall this tracking software? What would we have to do to uninstall it? Or will it be hard to remove?
Edit: Thanks for the nice tagging ;-) Just to clarify: I'm aware that there are other threads in the general android discussion etc., but given the complexity of this software (according to those threads it's very hard to remove if it's on the phone) and the fact that the implementation could differ from device to device this might still be worth discussing in here. I did not want to annoy anyone, sorry if I did
Did you try to find the app with Titanium Backup? Or Root Uninstaller? When the Carrier IQ software shows up just delete it
If not, google: 'delete carrier iq android'
First three hits were usefull

Only found on American handsets. Nothing on any of the international firmware I've tested for it. This is being blown out of proportion by people who don't have a clue what they are talking about. Samsung was forced to include this rootkit on their American devices by the carriers. Nothing to worry about if you don't have an Amaerican handset.
Agreed with Intratech. I have scanned my ROM and couldn't find any trace of CIQ.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
If you're a Sprint customer, you don't belong in these forums. Almost all Sprint devices have CIQ.
If you're an AT&T customer, you only belong in these forums if you bough an international GT-I9100 or are intimately aware of what things are common between the I777 and I9100 and what aren't.
If you don't have an I777 you shouldn't be here.
Only the newest AT&T phones and updates (****rocket, Vivid, unreleased but leaked Infuse Gingerbread updates) have CIQ. The I777 does not (except maybe in the leaks), no I9100 firmware does.
People need to learn to read before posting. If your device had CIQ, you would know it. It is insulting to the developers to say "can someone check if we have this?" - If the I9100 had it, it would have been publicized LONG ago. CIQ has made big news recently, but any developer with half a brain knew early on whether their device has CIQ.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
I am using an SGSII and I am on A1(a carrier from Austria).
I have no branding on my phone, but I still found a very conspicuous process named "LogsProvider" with a lot of permissions.
Is this the thing you are talking about?

No...........
i bet with the passage of time we will see several providers that enable carrier IQ or similar programmes with different names, its sad how things work these days ...i wish some hardcore developer will come up with a simple free app that can get rid of all these crappy "spy softwares " and put it on android market(for free) its a must have ... .rest assured he will get my donations and a big up .i would even sleep with such a developer if i were a girl
supercurio made a detector for it, so you can check if your device has it or not.
Download Voodoo Carrier IQ detector

Hi All
new android user, learning the curves.
I have a LG P505. The carrier is chatr, canadian based.
I have an IQ service agent running in the background, and would like to remove and/or disable it.
What's the best method for accomplishing this?
Also, ROM recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Thx!!!
terra
im thinkin that a rom is the only way to get rid of that carrier IQ. now before you go an brick your phone you need to be aware that the p500 kernel will not work properly with the phoenix/thrive. this is the one you need http://forums.androidcentral.com/t-...-2-08-overclock-cm7-2-3-7-etc-gyro-fixed.html
here is a general list of all posts related to this phone. here you will get the most help as XDA doesnt have a thread for our phones and not very many peeps are going to care much for our problems. as it not being an optimus one.
http://forums.androidcentral.com/t-lg-phoenix-thrive/
as for a recomended rom ... CM7 has the best battery life. aside from that you just have to pick one that you like from here.

be sure to hit the thanks button.
THX!!! for the info.
I have some reading to do.
I couldn't find on whether or not this would be beneficial for Verizon users. The rom I'm currently using (Beans build 6) allows me to disable it.
I see many posts of people on the Web asking how to disable for their phones and carriers and was curious as to if disabling it was beneficial for Verizon users, or detrimental.
Thanks in advance for whoever answers this.

I've searched everywhere and can't get an answer either. Hopefully someone will chime in.
