Ive done many tests, and Ive finally achieved the 12 hour battery life everyoen has been complaining about.
This is only achievable through a mixture of the applicatoin ''Juicedefender beta'' and Smart Actions, and freezing the unnecessary bloatware that doesnt need to be running in the background
Use the following settings:
2g & Data connnection off when screen off (For e-mails, let autosync check every x minutes you would like)
3g when specific apps need data connection on (for internet radios enable the screen on/off profile)
In-built setcpu function, set min/max to 300mhz on idle
Enable juicedefender to automatically handle 2g/3g networks
SMARTACTIONS: Display ON & OFF profile -> Disable background sync
Juicedefender in-built autobrightness, and tweak the settings below stock brightness
Enable juicedefender to manage wifi
HYPOTHESIS: Played Internet Radio for 1 hour straight, all active applications killed, only radio playing.
RESULT: Every 1 hour, drain: 9%
So if you multiple 9% by 12 = 109% which is slightly above 12hours.
Everyone can also test this, and see if their RAZR is the same, if so, no more complaints =)
Which is roughly 12 and a bit hours, please everyone also share their results using the same setup and post your results so we can all share, hope this helps =)
I can run 16 hrs stock out of the box under moderate use.
Here's where I'm at now and I'm stock...

My battery life has almost tripled ever since I turned off my 4G radio.

Yes, after 3 weeks try and error, 4G is the biggest consumer of battery.
Second is screen.

Where is the built-in setcpu function? I have been looking around but can't seem to find any setting like this.
I'm aware that Juice Defender has an option like this but when you say "built-in", it sounds like you're referring to one built-in to Smart Actions.
I believe he is referring to the market app Setcpu.
There is no 'acclaimed' 12 hr battery life...it is just possible with no high-tech, settings changing miracle. I get up to 18hrs with moderate use. Aside from 4G...you need to put your screen brightness down to around 30% which still looks very good.
Make sure you are using the beta version. Then you must go to the profiles ans click advanced, then confirm and the extra options to change frequencies will appear

That basically means that unless you are using the phone with screen on you are not going to get emails.
POINTLESS!
I agree with Szadzik. There's a fine line of usability vs battery life that needs to be determined by ones needs. For me I don't use WIFI. Mine is always off and don't turn it on unless I must for a mandatory game data download or something. I refuse though to scale back half the phones ability to save on battery. Fortunately this is the best battery life I have ever had on anything and that includes my single cores. Thankfully no need to scale back. The benefit of having AMOLED or at least this one is you can run the screen at 30% and still have people comment on how bright it is LOL.

You can set it to turn data on every 5 minutes when the screen is off and sync your email so that's not a big deal...it still saves a lot of battery. Personally I've just been keeping LTE off unless I really need it and turn juice defender on when i'm in a bind and need to preserve battery.

How are you going to receive emails if data is turned off?
Besides, using email app while you can use GMail is very uncomfortable.
You guys are trying to do everything to destroy smartphone experience. I prefer to have an external charger and USB cable to charge it up than to use these tricks to lower battery usage and have a smartphone that does not work.
The great thing I use is Moto's Sleep mode whenever I decide I do not want anyone to disturb me.

The data connection will turn on by itself automactically to check for auto-sync when you enable the option for juice defender to automatically manage data connection..
Whole point of this app is to get the most battery you can without sacrificing functionality, but just effectively using the networks/data connections effectively.. android has poor network management..
That's crazy, straight out the box I'm getting 14 hrs. + with pretty moderate use.

exactly.. i'd be really bad if the battery wouldn't last for 12 hours from the box. in fact i think that the battery life on RAZR is really good. I play games a lot, browse the web and stuff and i have no problem getting over 12 hours so.. only thing that comes to my mind is that they acutally mean 24 hours since they MIGHT have 12hr clock not 24hr.. so technically they can't reach 24hours. they can reach something like full 12. but you tell me i never heard anything about RAZR having 12 hours acclaimed battery life

You're right these features aren't great for everybody to use all the time but if you're really trying to save some battery and your not that important of a person that you can't wait 5-15 minutes to get your email it helps. I would argue that carrying an external charger takes away from the experience just as much if not more depending on the situation. Also, you don't have to be using the email app it works with gmail too it just turns on auto sync every x amount of minutes.
For me keeping 4g off when I'm not browsing the web or downloading a large file keeps me with more than enough juice to get me through most days.

Other than that it is always set to 816/216.
I usually get about 5 hours screen time and about 20 hours standby. Email and Calender sync at 1 hr, with a custom power profile that turns data off after 15 minutes between 3a-9a. I'm happy with it

Your profiles are similar to what I use, although I don't have one for charging/charging A/C
Also, you run 816/216 rest of the time? Aren't you short-changing your phone's capabilities a bit though ... ? I find the biggest different is having screen-off profile.

Not really. I change it to 1000/216 if it's spectral souls, gun bros or a benchmark. Angry birds plays on my fuze (lol) so i don't change it there. I have noticed little to no difference running 1000/216 on launcher screens, pictures, data rates or anything versus 816/216. If i bump it down to the 700 range then things get laggy, but as it sits 816 runs everything almost flawlessly.

Good to know, thanks! I'll try that, maybe squeeze out a little more battery life than I am now What are you averaging? I can go about 1.5 days with good usage as it stands
Strange, I can't have more than 15 hours if moderate usage...
I have similar profiles to the screenshot posted above, but I don't have one for when powered. The main profile on mine is 1000 max ~400 min. I've found that keeping the min ~400 makes the device always snappy without sacking much battery life.
I also use JuiceDefender to manage my data syncing. I leave the blur battery profile at high performance.

Depends on the day. If its a day off, i get ~30 hours with ~6 hours screen time from 100%-10%. Most days though i don't notice much, I drive around a lot listening to pandora in my car dock so its constantly being charged
If I can tear myself away from pandora for a day i'll repost something more meaningful.
On a side note, I notice with circle battery widget I usually get the slowest drain between 80% and 40%, not sure if anyone else has noticed this.
Small update to what I said earlier..
With my profiles, and all the crap running in the background this is what i got now from 100%-31%
1d3h11m since unplug
1d0h25m idle time
3h04m display
0h45m spectral souls (!)
Would go further but I am gonna be away from a charger all day tomorrow
i get the same battery life with setcpu and a display off profile than with no setcpu at all. my guess is that the battery saved gets wasted on setcpu itself.
I have the phone on from 7:30am to 12 midnight with no calls and 1 hour display time and i have just 40% less. No wifi at anytime.
Apps i only have gmail, no other email accounts, twitter at 15 minutes and whatsapp

also, what kernel/rom are you running?

Yes, my question was pretty straight forward...what kernel are you running. From your response I see your English may be the issue here.
Anyway, reason I ask is because some kernels such as BFS kernels don't really play nice with my phone nor battery. So maybe the issue is with the kernel being used.

/sigh. XDA, a wealth of information, but a lack of patience and reading comprehension.
Anyway, I feel like the Atrix does better than the Evo with battery life. I might try fiddling with SetCPU, so thanks for the info.
HTC Desire with stock Froyo ROM
I've been using SetCPU 2.1.1a recently and have noticed no difference in battery life. Is SetCPU a placebo as far as battery life is concerned?
My settings:
Charging = Max. 998 / Min. 998
Screen Off = Max. 245 / Min. 245
Battery < 101% = Max. 998 / Min. 245
Battery < 25% = Max. 499 / Min. 245
If I "Disable Perflock" SetCPU says "Success: Perflock appears to be disabled".
Some say it increases their battery life, are they imagining it? I'm not interested in over clocking. I'd be very willing to buy it, if it increased my battery life. Thanks
Why are people using Setcpu to try to save battery life?
The whole point of Tegra 2 is ultra low voltage operation when the system is inactive..
Its absolutely counter-productive to use setcpu to try to already do what the chipset itself is made to do and not half as effectively.

This thread is covering more than the Atrix. I didn't want to start yet another thread about this, when there are already plenty. Besides the main SetCPU thread (with the download links) is in the HTC Dream section and that phone's ancient.
If someone can answer my questions please.
I've done a bunch of different things to my phone to achieve this. I owe most of this result to scripts I have developed, I've put a lot of research into these, as well as my build.prop (Google "0vermind build prop" for that), I am not even using the memory values of supercharger, etc. I will probably be posting my scripts soon and how I did this, but just wanted to give a heads up. Long live the best phone ever made! The Droid x2!

Nice..looking forward to your work..
Now this is with what kind of use?
I can do regular texting, a little web search and marketplace downloads/updates and have around 19 hours and be around 20% with just the normal tweaks. (Probably 40% usage, 60% idle). I set the data saver to trigger at 11 PM (even though I always use it until late into the next morning) but by the time data saver is off (8 AM) the phone probably dropped 10-15% if I rarely used it. I'm wondering if this is at all any good since my idle is around 85% at all times so it looks like you trimmed that down.
This being my first smartphone, I think the actual standbye time is great but usage time is awful.
*edit: Just checked and running 2 Hours on battery and dropped 10% so I have no clue whats going on. I've noticed this phones battery is really random.

Mines been pretty consistent, and I've had wifi on most of the time, if you look at the screens. I don't text using standard texting app, I use Google Voice, which is said to use more battery cause it has to send a keep alive signal and it constantly redownloads messages.
That being said, I also have Trillian sitting in the background and have it on 24/7. It notifys me of texts, vms, calls from my business number, plus facebook. And I made a few calls, some short, some long. All that, 19 hours, and still 20% to spare. Heavy use still lasts pretty dang long.
And, if you look at my awake times, my phone never really goes into deep sleep when the screen is off, and it's suppose to, I think this is a software bug in Motorola's build of Gingerbread for x2. That's why I think I'm pretty impressed right now with this beast! Oh and Quadrant scores around 2900.
I have excellent battery life with my x2, the key to me was not using any of motoblur's social networking integration.. It consistantly runs and just gums everything up.. I use the facebook app and twitdeck when i want too, but dont let them update automatically (aka no unneeded connections to the web to download crap i can just manually update)..
Ever since then i get 2 full days out of battery usage if i need..
Since moving to Gingerbread I've been able to push the phone to almost 24hrs between charges, on very light usage days. This is with bg data services running (Sync on, corp email sync, Trillian, weather updates, etc...) If I'm using the phone for any significant portion of the day this drops considerably.
All I've done is frozen most of the Motorola/Verizon bloat.
The next opportunity I have to basically ignore my phone for 24hrs I will post screenshots to prove it.
That's with light usage though? I use my phone pretty heavily at times. Cause as you know from my signature, I run a business, lol.
I'm a heavy use phone user and I use my phone as my home phone. I've rooted and killed the motocrap with fire. I use setcpu to handle better CPU throttling and achieve 24+ hours on a single charge. I don't have any doubts the heavy battery use stems from the motocrap. I just cannot wait until CM7 or another minimalist rom becomes available with overclocking.

Do you happen to have any problems with setcpu actually making the processer stay within the range you set? It seems that no matter where I set the min/max it stays there for maybe half hour max then goes to whatever speed it wants to. The sliders don't change spots, the cpu just doesn't stay within the value set after a half hour. Can't future out why.

I am not trying to overclock. I am trying to keep my speeds lower to help save battery which I have been told IS possible. I know I can't go faster than 1ghz but I thought I would be able to keep it from reaching that to save battery life. Am I wrong

I'm not so sure that the stock kernel will allow for any tweaking of clock speeds. I think you have to have a custom kernel to implement any clock or scheduler changes.

Not sure about that one... I use profiles to handle the changes rather than forcing the speed ranges through the set sliders. The profiles seem to work better anyway, they react to active content rather than set-in-stone performance. One thing to note, the profiles are only available in the paid version (IIRC). Changing the profiles would be similar to handling the changes manually or through custom scripting routines. Right now, I'm going on 15+ hours with 70% of my battery left. I had the OG Droid running over five days on a single charge. What I do different from those saying 1 day max charge, I have no clue.
So ETA on script release?

I consistently get 20+ hours with a stock battery, no scripts of any kind, with moderate use and data always connected. All I've done to achieve this is de bloat the hell out of the system apps, set my screen brightness to minimum (the thing its so dang bright anyways, you can hardly tell once you get used to the minimum setting) my wifi is set to never disconnect (I pretty much have a wifi connection 95% of the time) that's about it. I use adwEX, plume for twitter (polls every 3 minutes) gmail, google voice for visual voicemail, moderate amount of widgets (clockr, fancy widget pro, system panel, power control, uk news), I'm even running a live wallpaper (vortex galaxy, set to 100% speed).

So here I am, finally hitting 50% 1d 5h 10m and a few seconds. I wonder what this would be like on the extended battery?
Let's get some info going on battery life.
I bump charged 3 times this morning so its time to put this bad boy to the test.
I have auto brightness off. WiFi 4g Bluetooth and GPS on.
Update 1
It's been just over 5 hours and I'm sitting at 74%. Moderate usage. Websurfing facebook one 20 min phone call. Not bad at all. Been on 4g most of the time
Update 2
my day is over, im home battery is at 17% and I used the phone quite a bit. Had to navigate for about 15 min in there. Used 4g most of the time, tho there was about 4 hours of Wifi usage in there too.
so that is about 12 hours of usage here. I bumped charged 3 times as i said. I dont think the "small" battery is an issue at all!
Sent from my HTC Rezound using XDA App
so far, i'm getting the same as my incredible haha..i don't have 4g here so, i'm on wifi all day
2 hours into it, 81%..that's NOT bump charging either.
2 horus into my 1500mah inc, i'd be at like 75%. so i'd say SO FAR she's doing well..
this is also wtih 76% display, using it for 48 minutes outta those 2 hours. not bad!! and she's idling at a cool 24.4 degrees C here...battery left widget is a good widget
I'm seeing the same as the dinc too. Battery was halfway down at 4 hours of running time. That is with 4G enabled, WiFi off, BT off, GPS on. Screen Brightness on medium. It seems to be on pace to last 8-9 hours. I did stream some Pandora and visited some websites. Also, service in my building is spotty so my phone will search for a signal and switches between 3G and 4G all day. The battery shouldn't be a problem on this phone with normal use.
10 hours, 50 minutes on battery so far:
45%.
not bad! this isn't 4g though, this is all 3g and wifi..pretty much mainly wifi. display 68% with it being time on for 1 hour and 48 minutes.
this things pretty much gettign the same battery life as my inc, so i'm happy with that. a 14-15 hour day is what i was expecting and will be easily done i think!
Weeeeeee forty or so straight minutes of use..texts, browsing, music listening...just trying to kill the battery to recalibrate battery left widget...lol gotta love the drop. I just hit ten percent now, at like 13 hours off. Awesome

This thing lasts a long time and charges fast as hell lol.
Good job HTC
What are the "Power" settings for your guys? Performance, Normal, or Economy? The phone comes out of the box in Performance mode, but I toggled it to Normal which in turn turned off my sync (how that is normal I have no clue) and who knows what else.

same, i'm still on performance...thats hwy i dont like those built in settings..i want to change stuff to how I use it, ya know? i keep sync on for google, facebook and weather, and that's how i want it haha
but i think it's a good idea like if you're out and you wanna quickly change power modes.
It is good if you have like 25% left and need a quick way to prolong the battery life. I think it is a good idea because not everyone is an expert on this stuff.
agreed; i'm also interested in checking out that low power sleep mode..seems like a good idea for people who leave it unplugged overnight...just have it turn on a few minutes before your alarm clokc and bam!
id like to see a thread in regards to how long it lasted using constant 4G data with the screen on the whole time.
Constant 4G data would hit a data cap before the battery died I bet.

do you mean set the screen to never turn off, and then setup a download and let it sit until it dies
i can do that, i have the oldschool unlimited plan and im at 7gb right now. I cant do it today because im at school, but I will do that tomorrow and let you know

not anymore than any other phone. I came from the dorid charge, and we talked about the same thing. and before that I was using the Dinc, and again, we talked about the same thing.
Pretty sure we need to start expecting that screens use more power than the rest of the phone.
The same is true on a laptop.
The poster above me is suggesting a 'stress test' of the battery by turning on all its high power usage abilities and then seeing how long it will last. 1 hour, 2 hours.. I did this on the droid charge and it only last 1 hr 45 min
I thought I posted in this thread. I set my settings to Normal instead of Performance. I haven't noticed any lag or any issues. I did notice it turned off LTE, set the WiFi settings back to 15 minute sleep, etc. So I changed those settings to my normal always on, keep the screen brightness low, and have seen ~1/3 better battery life with the same 'play and experiment' usage. Not exactly scientific, but I feel as though I have used it equally on both settings.
First full day of use and I got about 8 hours of battery life. (Heavy Usage) I work in a warehouse alone so I'm always playing music and use my Rezound as an mp3 player.
About 6 total hours of music playback, some faceboook every break or lunch, some twitter and lots of text messaging about 100 txts and about a 15min convo within the 8 hours. (What really killed my battery was the music playback)
Everything was on gps, 4g, auto brightness, auto sync etc.
8hr Shift started with full battery, shift ended with dead phone. Gets the day by, but for those that do not use over 6 hours of music playback, I'm sure you will see about 15hours+ on your device.

Just got the standard Rezound battery for my Thunderbolt 21.80 after discount. I will report usage in a few days after some battery calibration and full charges and discharges. So you can compare this battery on Rezound with a rooted thunderbolt with custom kernel.
On battery 4 hours 50 minutes with the settings I posted above. Normal usage, on 3G/4G 74% remaining.
After 8 hours, 5 of those on 4G while the rest on Wi-Fi. 3 Push email accounts, some Facebook, and web browsing. I'm still at 80% battery life.
Hell I don't know what they did to this phone but I might just return my extended battery as I don't think I'll ever need it based on my light/moderate use throughout the day. Can't wait to see what a debloat/kernel would do to this phone. My Bionic which I had before with a higher capacity battery would be sitting around 40% by now.
I wanted to see just how good smart actions work over night, so I charged it to 100% (dropping to 99% immediately) and I have battery extender used to turn off basically everything, no data, wifi, sync, bluetooth after a couple minutes of inactivity and screen off. At 10:22pm power was pulled and phone at 99%. At 7am this morning it was sitting at 95%. Thats pretty damn good! Granted, everything was off, but who needs them on while you are a sleep?
How long have you had the RAZR? I did generally the same thing my first night with it, and the next morning I had 5%
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda premium
Release day,...Nov 11th. 95% over night?!? Thats insane! Your sure everything is set to off? My Battery Extender Triggers: Display off, no movement, timeframe is made as an all day event, Actions: GPS off, Background sync disabled, cell data disabled, and, bluetooth was on, but will change that.

Somehow, some way, you are doing it wrong...
The RAZR's battery in the first few days of life is full on crazy. Don't even start thinking about measuring your battery usage until a week in with full charge and discharge cycles. Do your best to kill it everyday and make sure you charge it full. You will see over time that it becomes harder and harder to kill.

Agreed. You can't judge any phone's battery within the first week, let alone the first day. After its initial startup, it takes a few days for everything to settle in and play well together. My first day of battery usage was NASTY, but since then (got it exactly a week ago) it has really been amazing!

if there's no data, no sync, then of course you'll get great battery life...
You would think but my Thunderbolt would still lose 10% over night.
I've had my RAZR for 2.5 weeks, and made sure to fully drain and charge it each time. I still cannot get over 10 hours of life with little to no use during the day. (couple texts, no calls, fb at lunch break, check e-mail personal and corporate a few times an hour) I've tried the Battery Extender smart actions, lowered brightness to lowest setting, disabled 4G, set dark background, set auto-end tasks after 2 min, and ran battery callibrator.
Meanwhile, my coworkers with the same phone are getting 21 hours on their phones with moderate use including several phone calls and constant texting.
Not sure what I can do from here to get better battery life.
Heres a screen shot of my battery usage so far. Sitting at 80% right now.

use juicedefender beta, it has its own setcpu, so set screen sleep to 300mhzmin max300mhz, disable data donnection + change to 2g mode when screen is off, auto data connection on to 3g for apps you want to choose, e.g. browser, online radio. then turn off 3g data, switch back to 2g on screen sleep.
my battery drains 1 - 2 % overnight when im sleeping (9hours)
i only wish i didnt undersetimate juicedefender, after finally playing around wiht it, i must say every android user must have juicedefender, else your not getting the most out of ur battery, if u want EVEN more, install advancted task killer pro (and kill the trouble some apps, make sure not to kill the ones that constantly restart, it will actually drain ur battery since it gets killed, then starts, then kills)
I'm getting about 11 hours of battery. And its been 3 days. Still calibrating it tho, will keeep u posted.
I want to conduct a little tiny experiment. I want to see if having "In Pocket Detection" enabled under settings ---> display causes this horrible battery drain.
So what you can do is reply back with with a little data. I don't want a full post, just a few words.
The first word will be yes or no. Yes meaning the setting is enabled on your phone, no meaning its disabled.
Next, indicate good or bad. Good meaning YOU think battery life on your razr is acceptable, bad unacceptable.
Next, enter a number in hours on average your phone lasts on a full charge. If you don't know leave it blank. If you entered a number then post with that if you are a light, moderate or heavy user.
Last, put down "4G" if you leave yours on, "3G" if you turn off 4G, and "hybrid" if you go back and forth.
I'll do mine as a template. I'll compile the data if there is enough on a spreadsheet and see if that pocket detection is an issue.

I have a serious love/hate relationship with my new Amaze. Yes, it's fast and the resolution is beautiful but at what cost? What good is the phone if it's constantly tethered to the power outlet?
I have read a lot of this forum and I know battery life is not one of the Amaze's best attributes, but I feel like mine is extraordinarily atrocious.
So any and all suggestions would be much appreciated as to what I can do to stop the drain.
I am running Speed Rom 6.0 JellyBean with faux's kernel.
I have all syncing turned off except for my gmail and WeatherBug every 4 hours. I don't play Angry Birds or any other games. I don't watch Netflix or YouTube. I don't even really make calls on the phone. Just SMS, light web surfing, email, and some audio streaming but always with the screen off. My network is T-Mobile and my bars are typically 3 or higher in a 4G zone so I don't think it's straining to find the signal.
I always use the phone at the lowest brightness level. I have the Save Power option turned on in my Quick Settings. In System Tuner I have the governor set to on-demand and the off screen mode to power save.
I don't run any widgets, live wallpapers, and my desktop is all black. I also purchased a larger 2450 mAh battery to replace the smaller OEM. I feel like I'm doing everything I possibly can to save on power but it's infuriating to be on the phone and actually watch my power level increment down.
What am I missing? Is there a better rom to run that'll save power? Is there a setting I've overlooked? Please help. I don't want to throw this phone in the river because I paid a lot of money for it.
Any help is appreciated.
Thank You,
-golgiapp
weatherbug always drained my battery really fast on all my phones even with the refresh settings set to 4 hours. try your phone without that app for a few days. (when you uninstall it reboot the phone so all the phones processes are forced to restart)
and i get at least a full day on OEM battery with the phasebeam live wallpaper and like 5-6 3D htc widgets set to 30min refresh time.

Call HTC tech support and very calmly.and.politely tell them.you have a severe battery drain issue. There has been a problem with OEM batteries mentioned before. I got my new battery and can go 12 to 14 hours with usage like you speak of. Be nice and calm though. And you will get better treatment.

my ankor 1900mhz is just as poor, but I know it's not the battery's fault (idle with data off, phone sips battery at around 1% per 3 hour drain)
@ OP, try turning off the data connection and sync off for a few hours... if the energy is still being used up, then it's the battery's fault... otherwise, it might be a misbehaving app... i'd say reinstall the rom
Undervolt is a good way, effects vary in every phone because not all chips are made equal. Disable background data on apps you don't regularly use, and limit background processes to 4 in dev settings

Could it be speedrom?
I find my battery is dying faster since I installed it. As soon as the screen is on my battery is going down very very fast.
I'm still with the stock kernel right now so maybe I'll try a new one and see if it helps.

One more question if I may, how do I disable the double lock screen? The ring pull is redundant with my pattern lock.

I'm suprised no one called BS on one fact.. the OP said he has a 2450mah battery.. who has seen one?! Never heard of it, if it truly says that, it is some knock off battery that is mislabeled, and tthat is likely the issue.
Always get 1900mah anker batteries, anything else.. well, we all have good results with anker as far as I've seen.
Otherwise I'd say reflash the ruu properly, at full battery, then flash rom, at full battery.. then report your results.
