[Q] Disabling Phone Option for Travel? - HTC EVO 3D

Is there any way to disable the phone radio of this phone, for when I travel internationally? The last time I traveled, in order to use wifi and bluetooth - the phone's antenna kept searching for a non-existant signal and killed my battery consistently.
Is there a setting I just don't see that allows me to use everything but the phone functions? Airplane mode wipes out everything.
Thanks.

*#*#4636#*#* then go to Phone Info, then choose turn off radio. Repeat and reboot to turn back on.

Thank you sir! That's exactly what I was looking for. It's odd that the solution's so convoluted, on previous phones I always had a switch in the settings.

or you could just put it in airplane mode and then turn wifi and bt back on individually

Does that work for you? Because if I try that on my phone, bluetooth stays disabled. Ironically - wifi can be turned on in airplane mode though.
I'm running stock, by the way.

That's odd, when I put mine in AM and then turn on WiFi it works perfectly.
edit: Turn on AM first then turn on WiFi. If you have WiFi on and then turn on AM it kills WiFi.

You didn't read my last post - that works, but not for bluetooth. AM kills bluetooth no matter what.

HTC Flyer WiFi Only Version Turn off Cell Radio

Granted it does not have a real Cell radio installed but a few of use have seen the "Cell Standby" using the battery.
From this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15167448&postcount=18
Tablet Information > Turn off Radio at the bottom. Since I have the WiFi only version I'm thinking it might save a little battery power since my battery monitor shows "Cell Standby" as one process that uses up some battery time.

I don't know if it helps but you can go into Airplan-mode (Settings -> Wireless & networks). After you select this mode you have to turn on WiFi again.

Yes Airplane Mode will do the same but I did not like the unlock screen with Airplane mode on. I like the Sence unlock screen better.

LOL and this needs the location function which use the cell radio.
But what I learn from your request is that also the WiFi model have an GSM but only no SIM-card-hardware.
EDIT: I check the radio off-switch in the "Tablet Information" test tool and this also helps, no Airplane mode, normal unlock-screen but as soon as the location function is used (weather app, locations app, ...) the Flyer crashes and reboot with radio on
Maybe it didn't when you switch off also the location function in the settings? I didn't try it.

Really? I don't have any of these problems with the Radio off by this hack such as it is, I never did it through the settings options. I rebooted and the radio did come back on...but that is good to know as well.
Stupid ? sorry. Do you have to turn off radio everytime you power off and on the flyer? Everytime I power off and back on radio is back on. You can't use bluetooth while in airplane mode. thank you
The cell radio is re-enabled after a reboot.

Where did you hear this from?
Was told there would be an update when I called HTC. They have great support. You get right through to someone. Also turn off fast boot, power off device and charge until the LED is green. This will reset your battery stats and should get rid of the cell standby. Worked for me.

Internet stops working with WiFi?

Hey everyone, I seem to be having issues when using wifi. When home I try to use wifi and it connects and seems to be working fine. After a while when sitting idle everything will just stops working. The phone itself seems fine, but i'll stop getting email and anything that uses internet stops working as well. To get things to start working I have to either toggle wifi or just turn wifi off.
Any ideas?
Check your battery/sync settings. If you changed to normal sync/wifi/etc will turn off after 15 minutes unless you manually change it.
Even at Performance power setting, I found my Wi-Fi would still go to "sleep" after sitting for a while. The culprit I think is the "Sleep Mode", which is enabled by default. Changing that to manual or even off should solve the problem.

You have to go to Advanced under WiFi Settings (Hit menu button) and turn always on.
Mine has the same "problem." I'm ok with WiFi turning off to save battery. I haven't been able to reliably get it to wake up.

Good call, man. I think that's why mine randomly shuts off too! Im gonna start setting sleep mode for when I sleep every night.... It says it shuts off networks when screen is off but when I turn it on, WiFi is on right away...when you turn WiFi off it takes much longer than that to power up so I don't know what networks its shutting down lol

Turn off wifi when away from home.

I thought there was a feature on these phone that you can set it to turn it off when you leave your house and then turn back on when you get back home. I just can't find how to do it.

Llama can do this as well and its free.
You could go the cool guy route and use NFC tags. That's what I'll be doing.

There is an app in the Market called Auto Wifi Toggle. I use that, works great. There is also an app called Power Saver Settings (ICS) by Derek Reynolds (aka myn on xda) that shows some hidden settings in ICS. There is an option that is turned off by default that will turn off wifi when it isn't connected, so it works the same way but I'm not sure how well that works. I've been using AWT for years now. Only one issue that I find is that when restoring from TB, it doesn't work until you reconfigure it. No big deal
use power setting from derek (myn) in google play, option to turn wifi off when no connected

It might only catch the disconnect event, meaning, you may need to enable that option, connect to a wifi network, exit the range of that wifi network and it should trigger wifi off. There may also be a small waiting period before it does it, not sure. But that would only make sense to wait 30sec - 1 min before shutting off wifi.

I waited for about 4-5 minutes. Perhaps these ics hidden power saving features simply weren't implemented.
I personally use Y5 Battery Saver from the store. Simple, free, and turns WiFi off when you are out of range.

Wifi disconnecting

Is anyone else having problems with the S3 not staying connected to wifi? Mine usually disconnects when it goes into sleep mode. When I turn on the screen it comes back on again. I'm running Wanam Lite 6.2 (DLJ4)
What sleep policy have you got it set too?
(Settings/Wi-Fi/menu button/advanced)
I'm the same even with the sleep policy set to wifi never sleeps. . Constantly having wifi disconnect issues with this darn phone.

Try different security on router
Try this, on phone pad click *#0011# this takes you into service mode. click menu then click wifi this brings up a screen with info on it. There is a box which says on. press this so it says off then click done. Your wifi will stay connected until you shut the phone down. When you restart your phone go through the process again. A pain I know but it works.

Thanks colin, I've heard this before and helps somewhat with the sleeping wifi, but not with random disconnects/reconnects, ive been creating lots of threads tryna solve my issue, may return my handset
Cheers
I've got "keep wifi on during sleep" set to "Always". Have also used *#0011# to turn off wifi power save mode, but it still turns off the wifi radio.
Turning PSM off works for my however the battery drains upto 5 times faster! So much so it's better to just manually keep reconnecting rather than turning PSM off. Is there a someway of tweaking PSM to not disconnect?

Issue with WiFi turning off. Anyone else has this issue?

Hi Guys,
I am facing a problem with the WiFi staying on on my brand new xz1.
In the Wifi preferences, under Advanced preferences, if i select "Never" for the option "Keep WiFi on during sleep", i have noticed that the Wifi turns off when the phone goes in sleep mode.
But the problem is that it does not turn back on. It stays off until i turn it back on.
Does anyone else also experience this or is my understanding off somewhere?
Thanks,
Prasad
No one else is experiencing this?
What could I be doing wrong or maybe i have set this wrong?
Any help guys?
Nope. I even noticed that since the latest update for my Z5 that wifi kinda doesn't work even tho it shows as connected after the phone has entered sleep. My XZ1 does the same. I'm assuming it's some new android power saving? My As soon as I unlock everything works fine again but if I'm downloading torrents or streaming movies to my tv i need to keep the phone plugged in so it doesn't sleep

If you select never it means: never keep wifi on during sleep = turn wifi off during sleep.
Select "always" if you want to have wifi always on.

The problem is your comprehension on the setting. Understand the setting and the options it is very clear once you understand the meaning of the setting.
You have set the phone to deny WiFi when screen off. Full stop
I experienced an issue on the first day where it would connect and then quickly disconnect while connecting to a public network. Haven't faced the issue since then again under the same circumstances.

Yes quite right.
I have set the phone tondeny wifi onky when the phone sleeps.
Does it bot mean then that when thw phone wakes up from sleep, the wifi should also turn back on?
That is how it works on other android devices.
But with xz1 once the device goes to sleep, wifi shuts down which is good.
But when i wake the device, wifi stays off. It does not turn back on.
Thanks for reading.

I see.
Not noticed anything like this.
However I have the same setting applied (WiFi off during sleep.)
So I'll test this later and report back.

It works for me dude. WiFi signal reconnects as expected when screen is turned back on after a sleep.
All I can say is Sony's OTA updates since even my z3 have always caused issues. Try a factory reset.
Thanks for testing it out and glad to know there is no issue.
Will do a reset soon enough and report back though it might take a while as i am travelling.

Try turning off data. There is a setting that keeps the lte active for faster network switches. I have same issue. Don't notice it when data is off.
I am suffering the same Wi-Fi issue. It is only since the recent update this has occurred. I've contacted Sony to no avail. It's driving me mad.
Same here (FW:47.1.A.12.145) WIFI router is with atheros chipset.
When phone is going to "sleep" wifi is switching off (even if it is set to not do so).
It seems that flushing cache partition is fixing it for some time.
