I know my way around Android phones, Odin, etc. I've had a few of the original GS variations and never encountered anything like this.
It is an i9100, early batch GSII (Made in Korea) and is not rooted. This thing will not save any changes, whether it's deleting an app, flashing in Odin, using the Factory Format, etc. I am just perplexed.
I purchased this phone used from an online retailer at a great price, with a refund only policy. I figured no matter what there's always a solution as long as the bootloader, recovery mode and download mode are accessible. It seems I was mistaken.
Basically, all of the previous owner's information is on the phone. I can't do a factory reset through Android's menu since it prompts for the password of the original owner. Okay, fine, so I went into recovery mode and did a factory data reset then a wipe of the cache. Phone boots back up like nothing happened.
I've also tried the "Factory Format" dialer code with the same result. Any attempt at Odin flashing, whether it's a regular TAR or the 3 piece deal also do nothing. Odin will say it passed on every attempt, but nothing changes. All of the apps, personal info, etc are still there untouched.
After hours of trying to find a solution and getting nothing helpful, I even ticked the Re-Partition option, as well as the Phone EFS Clear in Odin. This also did nothing. The IMEI did not change or become corrupted as I expected.
Download mode shows that the Custom Binary Download is no. From what I understand, stock ROMs should still flash regardless of the counter's status. All I've tried to flash are stock ROMs, to no avail.
I'd love to get this thing working instead of sending it back for a refund. They won't offer an exchange as they are not receiving any more GS II.
Any ideas? I appreciate any and all responses, thanks.
I would remove ext sd card .
Go to recovery mounts and storage
Format cache data system and sd card .
Phone should now be empty remove battery and replace then boot to download mode and flash stock rom via Odin .

I haven't had an SD card in this phone at all. I've already tried those steps as well, and it did not help. This is just so strange.
I think your biggest problem is to do with the old password. I know from the S1 days that factory reset and other measures will not work if you don't know the password/pattern lock etc. Only Odin 3 part file + pit + repartition cleaned it up.
When you say you ticked repartition, did you have the pit file also? If not ticking repartition will not do anything I think. Very possible that all the files you flashed were no-wipe versions as well.
So maybe try this. Not sure if you've seen one of those firmwares which has a whole load of files in the zip like code (PDA), a couple of csc's, efs and more. They also have a pit file. Maybe try one of those firmwares. I use kh3 which I got of samfirmware.com a few months back when I want to clean **** up. I think I read somewhere that the new kk5 also.has them.
I know alot of people will say 'don't use pit or repartition' but I think you've got nothing to lose.

I appreciate the detailed reply, but that was the second to last thing I tried. I did use the pit, however I'm not sure if the package I used was a no wipe version. I used KF1, it was 3 files and I selected the pit, didn't work. I'll give KH3 a shot and report back in a bit, thanks
No go on KH3 either, this is one phone that does not want to be wiped
Is it just me or does your phone sound like a zombie?

Man your phone does sound weird. Maybe the s2 has some other sort of security measure related to that password. I think I did read a thread once about someone who had a similar problem. Not sure but it might have been a hardware issue.
Maybe rooting it will help but doubt it. Anyway, try an Odin flashable kernal like cf root or speedmod or even a custom firmware like litepro. Litepro flashes in Odin. If you can get cwm recovery maybe a wipe custom rom might do something.

After installing a ROM and rebooting the phone everything seemed to work fine. The only problem is that it I can not install any programs because it thinks that I have no space available.
Now I did not backup my system... I do have an older backup on my laptop... but I can not install clockwork because there is no space.
please help!
Thanks in Advance!
it might be a problem with the ROM.
ODIN back to stock, then flash that same rom again, if its still there, contact the DEV and tell him, because its their fault.
If it gets fixed with re-flash something went wrong while flashing and that happened.
What ROM did you install? Was it ODEX or DEODEX?
I agree with the above post, if an ODIN doesn't solve the problem, it sounds like a problem with the rom, but a little more info on your situation wouldn't hurt.
Thanks for the input... I hope to resolve this before tomorrow! The ROM was Bionix Fusion
I am new to this and probably should have researched a little more. lol
Ok I have downloaded the ODIN3 v1.00
How do I ODIN back to stock?
I have the Samsung Vibrant,
Having the same issue when running Odin with Eugene_2E_JK2_Froyo ...I ran Odin to fix a brick and didn't know the history of the phone. This is the only tar that will boot the phone all the way up, but I get the 0.00 available space error too. I tried stock and almost get a full boot up, but then goes black before going to main screen... I've tried many different combos including T959UVJFD.tar + s1_odin_20100512 pit , 512 pit + T959UVJI6, T959JL5, etc...
suggestions?
The ROM itself seems nice... I like the changes I've seen. For some reason it does not recognize the space that is available on the SD card as space for Applications. I've read a post somewhere about repartitioning the SD card in ODIN. ROM manager is s pretty much useless without clockwork recovery installed.... can not install it without space available. I tried repartitioning in ODIN but would not do it... is this something that could work? Maybe I am doing something else wrong,... or any other suggestions?
At this point I will be happy to go back to factory settings then start over...

I agree... This thread would probably get more attention in the development section, but I may be wrong. I will keep trying things and let you know if I come up with something...
Actually now I am having the same problem... Went back to the original using ODIN now when the phone boots up it goes to a blank screen and will not go any further!

Okay... YAY!!! I got it working! Here's how!
I want to note that every time I would Flash the phone with ODIN when the phone would reboot it would fail to wipe the data! This was not a fix that I found on purpose but it did work for me:
I flashed the file EUGENE373_SamsungS_Froyo_PDA
Now that file is for the Vibrant i9000. Not mine
So after that I re-tried the original one that I stated above,.... then it worked! I did notice that it did NOT fail to wipe the data!
So relieved!

Thanks for posting your resolution in the event this happens to someone else down the line. Glad you got it up and running.
Yup that is the true stock firmware... try this, it might help and it might not? when you boot your phone and it loads up, format your internal and external sdcard. (back up first) then reboot.... see if that helps. if not, odin the stock rom again. right now i'm shooting at flies with a BB gun so it is worth a try anyway...... and i'll try and research it for ya......
oops i didnt know you found a way....my bad. glad you got it working!!!!
So is that the way to fix it then? I just want to know if anyone else has tried it with no problem before i do it. Also, will you be able to flash back to stock?
I flashed the files that were included with the ODIN package and i now don't have any memory for applications also is the only way to fix this issue by using ODIN again or has someone found another method?
Did you use OCLF at any time previously?

I tried voodoo for the first time and couldn't get past the vibrant screen i then used the odin package the tmobile default files and got to the tmobil boot screen but the screen goes black and nothing happens my hard ware keys were on but that's it so then i used eugenes package based off the tmobile leak and that's where i'm at now it works but no application memory available.
so i want to see if i can just use ODIN with the file that is up a couple of posts to get my app memory back
How much available app space are we suppose to have?
So I know the phone has 2GB of app space, but when I totally wipe everything and go back to stock, it says only about 1.7GB.
go to settings, then sd card and phone storage
scroll all the way down to application storage
how much available space is it suppose to have under stock conditions?

Can you post the EUGENE373_SamsungS_Froyo_PDA file? I flashed Eugene_2E_JK2 Froyo, and then tried flashing the original JFD Stock Rom, but it gave me a black screen after the Galaxy S screen. Also, it didn't wipe the data for me.

I need help guys! Wanted to restore my original stockrom GT-I9100_SIN_I9100DXKI2_I9100OLCKH1_I9100DXKI1 which I downloaded of a link here. The step I performed are. Reboot in CWM and wipe data/factory reset. Wipe cache, dalvik cache and battery. Reboot into download mode, plug in to Odin and click on pda and load my GT-I9100_SIN_I9100DXKI2_I9100OLCKH1_I9100DXKI1.tar. Click start and the light turns green and the phone reboot with all my user data gone but still on Checkrom V.20. Even the theme are still the same. I repeated the steps twice but no luck! What am i doing wrong???
ok try this
ive tried it a couple of times before
try to find the " format " selection in CWM
this will CLEAN ur phone fully
choose sdcard etc
so there is no way Checkrom will revive again
im not 100% this will work
EDIT:
backup ur efs on ur external sdcard or pc
ull find a tutorial some where here
Tried it, didnt work am i gonna be stucked with checkrom forever?

Ever tried to pull out your battery for some minutes (after factory reset)?
Maybe the phone keeps something in "memory".
Alternatively you should flash the ROM with pit file and repartion option enabled in Odin.
Good luck !

Im scared, are you sure it's safe! I read from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 that you should PIT refers to the partition information table you only need it if you screw up your partition table or if the firmware specifically requires it because of a change in the partition table layout.

Ok. Wiping data/ factory resetting just deletes apps, settings, accounts etc. It doesn't remove the rom or wipe it from your phone. If you did this on a stock rom, after rebooting you would be on a fresh stock rom. Since your on checkrom, you stay on checkrom.
Formatting SD card also does **** for what you are trying to do. The SD card just hold things like pictures, media etc.
What you want to do is overwrite the system.
I personally flash kh3 (3 part file) over checkrom when i want a fresh start, and it always wipes it clean (but not SD card which is how its meant to be). I don't use any pit file but I believe I do tick repartition (which may do nothing anyway without a pit file).
So, for your problem I would recommend flashing a 3 part firmware, PDA (or on kh3 its called Code), phone & csc. A 3 part firmware should also have a pit file so enter that in its correct area as well. Then tick repartition.
On my S1 I have lost count of how many times I have flashed with a pit file and repartition. Maybe once in a blue moon did it stall or fail but nothing a reboot into download mode and retrying couldn't fix.
No horror story could scare me because as I said I have lost count (literally) of how many times I've used pit and ticked repartition.
If your still worried first try a 3 part file without the above and if still the same try with.

Do I have to enable usb debugging mode?
Try this. Boot with checkrom revolution. Boot to download mode (note don't wipe data yet). Flash stock ROM. Boot directly to recovery. Wipe data. Boot directly to Download Mode. Flash stock ROM once more.

Yup. Realized that too.. Anyone else manage to flash back stockrom after using checkrom!?
I'm not noob to flashing or soft brick recovering but this has me confused...
I was running unNamed lastest for a lil while now. Everything was working fine until here recently, while stopped at a rest area checking a webpage my phone cut of and got stuck on a boot loop, only showing the kernal splash screen. Was like wtf? Tried pulling battery ,wiping cache and dalvik. No help. Was like that's fine, have a cwm back up from week ago. Nope didnt work. Was like ok let me try flashing something on my phone that's saved on sd. Flashed Miui, didn't work. Finally got back and tried using this Odin One click "Odin3 One-Click Downloader Stock I-777 UCKH7 with Root no BL" by entropy from the flashing without triggering flash counter guide. Still boot loops only showing the black Samsung Galaxy S II screen. This is after 3 what the odin says as 3 successful flash attempts.
I'm at my wits end, of all the soft bricking i've recovered from, where I assumed as long as a bad bootloader flash didn't happen and i could still get to download mode I'm fine, it could be fixed. But this has me stumped.
*After going into 3e recovery and trying to wipe data, it won't even now go back into 3e recovery. Attempts to but says something like deleting cryption meta data or something of that nature.
-confused-

The one-click downloader is NOT from me, it's a repack of my tar file - and it's starting to sound like the one-click is doing something weird and not flashing the kernel properly.
Use regular old Odin (or Heimdall) to flash the raw tar package.
I'll try it. Though I don't understand how I am in the position I am in from browsing the web on my phone to directly going into a hootloop that neither that odin one click will fix, or any cwm roms won't fix.

I won't have access to computer till later today but I'm trying to figure out what could be wrong. I was thinking that maybe my partitions were bad, but doesn't that odin used, repartition, using a pit file (think that is what pit is for)? Although, this was not from a flash, but rebooted from a couple weeks old successful flash of unNamed while browsing the web so I don't see how that can be the problem. However, even if the partitions were bad, wouldn't odin fail a flash because it has no where to send the firmware files? Also if it was a type of hardware failure, such as processor, wouldn't it not even show the kernel Galaxy S II splash screen? Or is this something that only the gpu handles? It was able to get into cwm before I used the odin though so I can't believe it's cpu because I'm sure that recovery should use it. Just can't figure it out, never had a problem with a boot loop a flash couldn't fix.
If I can't get it to work, will flashing a stock kernel with cwm increment the flash counter? If not I guess I could access my internal sd, try and pull my pictures and the roms off there and then send it to warranty. However I really don't want to. Thanks to anyone in advance.

Ok so after flashing the odin file from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1286432 it is still bootlooping at splash screen.
I'm not sure what my options are right now. I'm pretty sure bootloaders can't be the problem. I can't re-partition from odin because it says it can't open the specified file "(Line: 1828)". Is this because it doesn't have pit file? I don't understand how this problem manifested.
If I need to pull contents from sd card from cwm, will flashing a cwm kernal increment flash counter?
Don't repartition using a PIT, it's a great way to screw up your phone. (Hopefully you haven't flashed a PIT at all yet... If you have, I don't quite know what's going on.)

Will try to help, but will need more specific information.
The OP of this thread started bootlooping while checking a web page in his browser. So, how did it happen for you? Please give as much exact information as possible. Was it after a flash? Or did it start while you were using the phone? Or how?
Mine was connected to an aftermarket car charger while it happened. I read a post somewhere and a couple ppl it happened to believed the same thing, since it was in my 30 day trail period I sent it back to Sams club and got my replacement today. Since I didn't have a jig at the time, I didn't want to flash a cwm kernel and increase my flash counter so I lost some pics of my kids.
Not sure if it was charger related but I couldn't find a fix and wouldn't really call myself a noob at flashing. Might have some things to learn nut far from a noob.

Well, I just messed up with my phone trying to flash B2G
Did it like it's said in this tutorial, worked, but then got an error. So I tried to restore my old backup => didn't work, got bootlooped
reflashed siyah, restored backup => doesn't work, bootloopat cm logo
original 4.0.3 via odin => didn't work
just siyah, full wipe and then install new zip => didn't work and REBOOTS AFTER WIPING DATA, IN EVERY KERNEL TRIED YET!
then I tried flash original 4.0.3 (xwlp7) and then the cfkernel for it, but => didn't work!
does somebody have an idea? Damn, I'm desperate!
Did you wipe cache and dalvik when re flashing stock firmware?
I've been in the same situation and I wiped cache and dalvik and factory reset, then boot to download, flash stock firmware package including stock kernel then once flashed wipe cache and dalvik and factory reset again.
Worked for me

Flash stock rom via odin like it says in the other eleventy million "bricked" topics.
Sometimes it can take a while if you are using CWM the other thing to try is go into mounts and storage and then format Data, System and internal sd card.
Then re flash via Odin
You do definitely have the correct firmware for your model?

Yeah, I took the one from sammobile where it says switzerland - orange (and thats what I have...)
Tried with format internal storage, but still get bootloop (tried factory reset after this, but didn't work too )
Should I try with Phone EFS Clear or Phone Bootloader Update maybe (tried Re-Partition, didn't work too, maybe I need another pit?)
or should I try with the KI4 I had when I got the phone at the beginning (long time ago) with phone Bootloader update?

You need another pit file.
Visit here: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1760107
I don't geht it working...
But I got now another solution, just flash siyah and use it as second rom (Custom), but seems like me dummy broke the partitions of the first rom
If somebody can give me a noob-proof (!!) guide with this pits, just here with it, but fortunately second rom is working :good:

use the guide here:[GUIDE] Fix an unflashable or soft bricked GSII (I9100G/M/P/T VERSION INCLUDED!)
Well, I read this guides before, but I don't get what pit I need...
In this guide there isn't any pit and in here there are about 20 different

you can use the .pit file from here
then follow the instructions in the previous guide.

Damn, didn't work for me too - seems like I have to just stay on only a second rom

it seems you have corrupt nand.
You need you use the any of the .pit files in the previous tutorial. one of the first 8 pit files (especially the 8th one) should work for you.
Sure? Because in odin it sais "nand write start" and then no error?

I know but some part of of the disk which may not even affect flashing may be responsible. you can just simply search for bootloop in Q&A section, you should find some pit files that have helped others fix similar problem.
Edit: You can try the stock pit file included with the zip package first, before trying any other pit file(s)
Should I try to just reset counter, format internal story, flash original 4.0.3 (then Counter should be still on zero, right?) and then bring into warranty and just say I got a bad OTA update?
Wanna go back to stock after being a rom junkie, having never used odin, and wanting to go back. Will flashing the stock firmware with odin get me a yellow triangle? Until now i've been able to completely avoid the triangle, it would be ironic if i got it going back to stock.
Also after flashing a ton of roms i have soooo much junk on my phone its not even funny and i need the space back, is the safest way to COMPLETELY wipe my phone(i mean everything pics, music, junk files and such) through the setting menu > backup and reset > factory data reset > tick Erase SD card box > reset phone. ?
Any help is much appreciated.
OK....first....you don't *need* to Odin flash to get back to stock if you are rooted...... @Chainfires mobile Odin will let you do it 'in phone'
Search for the thread here on XDA read ALL the instructions and flash away.
Second......I've used mobile Odin a few times, and it's NEVER increased my binary count or produced a yellow triangle.
Third......in mobile Odin there are options to wipe dalvik, cache and data.....you don't need to do any extra wipes before flashing.
PC Odin, (I believe) will leave your *personal* data intact unless you find a "3 part firmware" that format wipes the memory as it flashes........
The normal single part firmwares just overwrite the pre existing files and leave everything else untouched.......
This might be my S2 or it might be my W, but it's definitely CM...
awesome big thanks for the help, will def give mob odin a go.
What about wiping all personal data from my phone, i mean everything like junk files, photo's, video, the countless files left over from deleted apps can i just use the built in factory reset and data wipe(through the setting menu > backup and reset > factory data reset > tick Erase SD card box > reset phone)?
Again big thanks for the help.
I've never actually used the factory reset in the phones settings.....I've always gone to CWM recovery mode to do it, so I'm not sure how thorough it is......
Sorry, can't answer that one.......

And can anyone answer if flashing the stock firmware with odin on my pc will produce a triangle?
Did you get the mobOdin off the thread?
If yes, did you download and install the (correct) flashkernel too?

yes and yes, thanks again.
Could the firmware have become corrupted in any way? It might be an idea to try and re download it....

You can just format your external sd card, and for the internal one you can simply delete everything in there manually or use the clear sd data in settings too before flashing stock rom. I haven't used mobile odin because it seemed weird to me, and i've never had a triangle flashing from odin (pc), i think it will be okay if you follow instructions, just check posts in the thread of using odin, if it makes a triangle someone would be posting it.

Yea, not having such a good experience with MOdin so far lol, once i get a definitive answer(which i think i just got, thx) to: "if pc odin will produce a triangle or not when flashing back to stock?" ill be using that.
Thanks
