[Q] Bricked phone? Need help! - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Well, I just messed up with my phone trying to flash B2G
Did it like it's said in this tutorial, worked, but then got an error. So I tried to restore my old backup => didn't work, got bootlooped
reflashed siyah, restored backup => doesn't work, bootloopat cm logo
original 4.0.3 via odin => didn't work
just siyah, full wipe and then install new zip => didn't work and REBOOTS AFTER WIPING DATA, IN EVERY KERNEL TRIED YET!
then I tried flash original 4.0.3 (xwlp7) and then the cfkernel for it, but => didn't work!
does somebody have an idea? Damn, I'm desperate!

Did you wipe cache and dalvik when re flashing stock firmware?
I've been in the same situation and I wiped cache and dalvik and factory reset, then boot to download, flash stock firmware package including stock kernel then once flashed wipe cache and dalvik and factory reset again.
Worked for me
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app

tried it out, stucks a this f*cking factory reset...
just this blue bar at the bottom about 10 minutes and then I gave up - or does this need more time to just wipe data?

Flash stock rom via odin like it says in the other eleventy million "bricked" topics.

Sometimes it can take a while if you are using CWM the other thing to try is go into mounts and storage and then format Data, System and internal sd card.
Then re flash via Odin
You do definitely have the correct firmware for your model?

Yeah, I took the one from sammobile where it says switzerland - orange (and thats what I have...)
Tried with format internal storage, but still get bootloop (tried factory reset after this, but didn't work too )
Should I try with Phone EFS Clear or Phone Bootloader Update maybe (tried Re-Partition, didn't work too, maybe I need another pit?)
or should I try with the KI4 I had when I got the phone at the beginning (long time ago) with phone Bootloader update?

You need another pit file.
Visit here: forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1760107

I don't geht it working...
But I got now another solution, just flash siyah and use it as second rom (Custom), but seems like me dummy broke the partitions of the first rom
If somebody can give me a noob-proof (!!) guide with this pits, just here with it, but fortunately second rom is working :good:

use the guide here:[GUIDE] Fix an unflashable or soft bricked GSII (I9100G/M/P/T VERSION INCLUDED!)

Well, I read this guides before, but I don't get what pit I need...
In this guide there isn't any pit and in here there are about 20 different

you can use the .pit file from here
then follow the instructions in the previous guide.

Damn, didn't work for me too - seems like I have to just stay on only a second rom

it seems you have corrupt nand.
You need you use the any of the .pit files in the previous tutorial. one of the first 8 pit files (especially the 8th one) should work for you.

Sure? Because in odin it sais "nand write start" and then no error?

I know but some part of of the disk which may not even affect flashing may be responsible. you can just simply search for bootloop in Q&A section, you should find some pit files that have helped others fix similar problem.
Edit: You can try the stock pit file included with the zip package first, before trying any other pit file(s)

Should I try to just reset counter, format internal story, flash original 4.0.3 (then Counter should be still on zero, right?) and then bring into warranty and just say I got a bad OTA update?

Cannot restore back stock rom after flahing Checkrom Revolution V2.0!

I need help guys! Wanted to restore my original stockrom GT-I9100_SIN_I9100DXKI2_I9100OLCKH1_I9100DXKI1 which I downloaded of a link here. The step I performed are. Reboot in CWM and wipe data/factory reset. Wipe cache, dalvik cache and battery. Reboot into download mode, plug in to Odin and click on pda and load my GT-I9100_SIN_I9100DXKI2_I9100OLCKH1_I9100DXKI1.tar. Click start and the light turns green and the phone reboot with all my user data gone but still on Checkrom V.20. Even the theme are still the same. I repeated the steps twice but no luck! What am i doing wrong???

ive tried it a couple of times before
try to find the " format " selection in CWM
this will CLEAN ur phone fully

im not 100% this will work
EDIT:

Ever tried to pull out your battery for some minutes (after factory reset)?
Maybe the phone keeps something in "memory".
Alternatively you should flash the ROM with pit file and repartion option enabled in Odin.
Good luck !

Im scared, are you sure it's safe! I read from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 that you should PIT refers to the partition information table you only need it if you screw up your partition table or if the firmware specifically requires it because of a change in the partition table layout.

Ok. Wiping data/ factory resetting just deletes apps, settings, accounts etc. It doesn't remove the rom or wipe it from your phone. If you did this on a stock rom, after rebooting you would be on a fresh stock rom. Since your on checkrom, you stay on checkrom.
Formatting SD card also does **** for what you are trying to do. The SD card just hold things like pictures, media etc.
What you want to do is overwrite the system.
I personally flash kh3 (3 part file) over checkrom when i want a fresh start, and it always wipes it clean (but not SD card which is how its meant to be). I don't use any pit file but I believe I do tick repartition (which may do nothing anyway without a pit file).
So, for your problem I would recommend flashing a 3 part firmware, PDA (or on kh3 its called Code), phone & csc. A 3 part firmware should also have a pit file so enter that in its correct area as well. Then tick repartition.
On my S1 I have lost count of how many times I have flashed with a pit file and repartition. Maybe once in a blue moon did it stall or fail but nothing a reboot into download mode and retrying couldn't fix.
No horror story could scare me because as I said I have lost count (literally) of how many times I've used pit and ticked repartition.
If your still worried first try a 3 part file without the above and if still the same try with.

Do I have to enable usb debugging mode?
Try this. Boot with checkrom revolution. Boot to download mode (note don't wipe data yet). Flash stock ROM. Boot directly to recovery. Wipe data. Boot directly to Download Mode. Flash stock ROM once more.

Yup. Realized that too.. Anyone else manage to flash back stockrom after using checkrom!?

Phone will not wipe, format, flash with Odin, etc.

I know my way around Android phones, Odin, etc. I've had a few of the original GS variations and never encountered anything like this.
It is an i9100, early batch GSII (Made in Korea) and is not rooted. This thing will not save any changes, whether it's deleting an app, flashing in Odin, using the Factory Format, etc. I am just perplexed.
I purchased this phone used from an online retailer at a great price, with a refund only policy. I figured no matter what there's always a solution as long as the bootloader, recovery mode and download mode are accessible. It seems I was mistaken.
Basically, all of the previous owner's information is on the phone. I can't do a factory reset through Android's menu since it prompts for the password of the original owner. Okay, fine, so I went into recovery mode and did a factory data reset then a wipe of the cache. Phone boots back up like nothing happened.
I've also tried the "Factory Format" dialer code with the same result. Any attempt at Odin flashing, whether it's a regular TAR or the 3 piece deal also do nothing. Odin will say it passed on every attempt, but nothing changes. All of the apps, personal info, etc are still there untouched.
After hours of trying to find a solution and getting nothing helpful, I even ticked the Re-Partition option, as well as the Phone EFS Clear in Odin. This also did nothing. The IMEI did not change or become corrupted as I expected.
Download mode shows that the Custom Binary Download is no. From what I understand, stock ROMs should still flash regardless of the counter's status. All I've tried to flash are stock ROMs, to no avail.
I'd love to get this thing working instead of sending it back for a refund. They won't offer an exchange as they are not receiving any more GS II.
Any ideas? I appreciate any and all responses, thanks.
I would remove ext sd card .
Go to recovery mounts and storage
Format cache data system and sd card .
Phone should now be empty remove battery and replace then boot to download mode and flash stock rom via Odin .

I haven't had an SD card in this phone at all. I've already tried those steps as well, and it did not help. This is just so strange.
I think your biggest problem is to do with the old password. I know from the S1 days that factory reset and other measures will not work if you don't know the password/pattern lock etc. Only Odin 3 part file + pit + repartition cleaned it up.
When you say you ticked repartition, did you have the pit file also? If not ticking repartition will not do anything I think. Very possible that all the files you flashed were no-wipe versions as well.
So maybe try this. Not sure if you've seen one of those firmwares which has a whole load of files in the zip like code (PDA), a couple of csc's, efs and more. They also have a pit file. Maybe try one of those firmwares. I use kh3 which I got of samfirmware.com a few months back when I want to clean **** up. I think I read somewhere that the new kk5 also.has them.
I know alot of people will say 'don't use pit or repartition' but I think you've got nothing to lose.

I appreciate the detailed reply, but that was the second to last thing I tried. I did use the pit, however I'm not sure if the package I used was a no wipe version. I used KF1, it was 3 files and I selected the pit, didn't work. I'll give KH3 a shot and report back in a bit, thanks
No go on KH3 either, this is one phone that does not want to be wiped

Man your phone does sound weird. Maybe the s2 has some other sort of security measure related to that password. I think I did read a thread once about someone who had a similar problem. Not sure but it might have been a hardware issue.
Maybe rooting it will help but doubt it. Anyway, try an Odin flashable kernal like cf root or speedmod or even a custom firmware like litepro. Litepro flashes in Odin. If you can get cwm recovery maybe a wipe custom rom might do something.

Stuck on Welcome screen problem

My S3 i9300 is gets stuck on the welcome screen and none of the buttons work. I've tried dozens of official firmwares and the latest i9300XUFME7 test firmware as well to fix the problem but all to no avail. I've tried different recoveries, CWM, Philz and TWRP and I've tried wiping cache, data/factory reset and dalvik cache but still the phone gets stuck on the Welcome screen. What is the problem and more importantly what is the solution? I'm thinking of trying the next flash again with Auto Reboot, F.Reset Time and Re-Partition checked and also to check the Nand Erase All if my phone survives the next flash. Any suggestions?

sounds not good to be honest, did you check:
(1) try a stock rom flash with prior use of mega wipe (deletes anything, only leaves ext. sd card)
(2) read the SDS thread (not sure if your phone might concerned though)
(3) read the occasional freeze thread

Thanx guyz. But still no joy. Like boomboomer says it must be hardware fault because all my hard buttons work and the phone shows up correctly when connected to my pc but there is no touch response when I get to my Welcome screen on the phone so I'll take it to the Samsung Repair Centre but before I do I want to know is there any repair tar or zip I could try to use?

Well, you may try this. It will do re-partition, format your phone and will make it as if your phone just comes out of FACTORY
Go here and download "I9300XXEMG4_KOR_MULTI_FACTORY", extract and install. Installation guide is found here.
Thereafter, flash your phone again using your country's FW via Odin with PDA option! Hope it works. In my case, it worked like a charm! I re-partitioned my phone three times already while doing experiments! It's ok! It must work!!
I even mixed[JB4.3's Bootlodaer, PDA and Modem + JB 4.1.2's CSC] this way[see attachment]! If you know what you are doing, all goes well!

Sticky threads are at the top of each forum in the desktop version of the forum, and have a push pin icon on the left. On the mobile version of the forum, I think there is a separate tab for the sticky threads.

Well, I don't know exactly what you did to mess with the imei/efs. Without a backup, it's going to be difficult to recover from that problem. Frankly, I don't know enough about it to be of any help. I think I've read that you can get the phone working with a generic IMEI but you can't get the original IMEI back. But again, it's just speculation on my part. Maybe someone else who knows more will jump in.

is there any way to get the phone file, i see in odin that it has a phone option, so, i'd like to try and flash that file and see, any idea where to get it for JB 4.1.2?

yes but regardless of you currently being on 4.1.2 you can still reflash the stock jb 4.1.2 firmware via odin, you can try redownloading the image file since you might have a case of a corrupted image.
I agree that you should attempt to flash stock ucmd8 again after re-downloading the file. You should flash the .tar.md5 version. Odin will check the md5 sum of the file before flashing and only flash it if it is not corrupt. You can find a download for it in the Download Repository. It's the very last item at the bottom.

By the image file, he means the firmware file. I put a link to the Download Repository in my last post, and it is also in my signature on every post. Did you download from there and try flashing that file? If not, please do that as your next step.

At this point, downgrading to 4.0.3 is probably not a solution. From all the information that you have posted so far, it appears that your phone either has a firmware issue such as corrupt memory, or a hardware issue such as damaged eMMC memory. It is also possible that a necessary step is being skipped, such as performing a wipe data/factory reset from within recovery. Although both myself and 4-2ndtwin have mentioned that you should do that, you have never specifically stated in any of your three threads that you followed our advice.
So first things first, have you performed a wipe data/factory reset from within recovery? Have you included this step with every attempt to flash a firmware through Odin3?

i now flashed to 4.0.4 and got stuck on rethink possible screen too, im almost giving up ._. nothing seems to work x_x.
Don't give up just yet. Try going all the way back to i777uckh7 firmware. If it doesn't boot. Power off, reboot recovery, wipe data/factory reset, then reboot. If successful, save ur EFS folder 1st, back it up with an app or Root Explorer, etc. Save it in a few places, external sdcard, pc. Then u could proceed to update to JB or wherever u r wanting to go.

I agree with 4-2ndtwin. Don't give up, and follow his suggestion.
In fact proceed according to the following sequence. If Step 1 solves the issue, stop there, otherwise proceed to step 2, and then if necessary step 3.
Step 1) 4-2ndtwin's suggestion. Download "I777UCKH7-CL503881 FULL tar.md5" from the section titled I777UCKH7-CL503881 Stock Binaries. Flash with Odin3 v1.85 (preferred version). Perform wipe data/factory reset from within recovery.
Step 2) Download the Tar version of Siyah 2.6.14 Kernel. Flash it in PDA. Without ticking Re-Partitioning. Next repeat Step 1 above.
Step 3) Download the SBL Bootloader from the Download Repository. Flash it as PDA in ODIN, without ticking Re-Partitioning. (Please observe normal bootloader flashing caution.) Next repeat Step 2 above.
To recap the above for clarity:
Step 1 - I777UCKH7 full distribution --> wipe data/factory reset
Step 2 - SiyahKernel v2.6.14 --> I777UCKH7 full distribution --> wipe data/factory reset
Step 3 - Secondary Bootloader --> SiyahKernel v2.6.14 --> I777UCKH7 full distribution --> wipe data/factory reset

Gt-i9300 freezing and rebooting after multiple fail unbrick

i'll explain what i did to get here.
I was in stock rom 4.1.2, and i decide to flash a custom rom, after several tests i decided to get back to stock rom and i used the mobile odin, when i flash the rom using mobile odin, nothing happens, and rebooted the manually the phone and when i did this, the phone got locked/bricked in Samsung GT-I9300 screen.
So i tried any ways to turn on the phone and i got sucess, but when i unbrick my phone, he start to freeze all the time and reboot all the time for it self, everytime that it freeze i had to wipe cache partition to turn on and use, if a did not do this, the phone stuck just after sansung screen.

Well why didn't you put that in your thread i'm not a mind reader
Seriously though have a look at doing a mega wipe first look here >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/tool-mega-wipesuper-wipefactory-t1832326 << then flash a custom stock rom.Place it on your ext sd card first because the mega wipe will wipe everything including your system.
Read exactly what to do first so you fully understand.

I don't think I will post any more information because if I do you will probably say I've tried that. I think more information is needed on what you have tried so people looking can suggest things you have not tried.

If i say that i tried, its couse' i tried and didn't work, what a did was wipe my device and flash stock rom using odin. I'm here couse' nothing has worked well, both things you said to me i did and didn't work.
Try to say something advanced, something that only do in hard bricked.

Lol for some people that is advanced
If you have done a mega wipe and installed stock rom correctly there are not many options left
(1) You could try another stock rom (Just in case their is something wrong with the one you are trying to flash)
(2) Try the rescue firmware (But only use as a last resort because it containes a pit file)
(3) Service center
