Hi All, I have attempted to flash clockwork mod onto my G-Tab using This guide. I put the update.zip into its proper place in the internal sd card, and then booted to recovery where it looked as if it installed and then it rebooted, I then went back into recovery where now it is stuck at the Viewsonic Birds screen and says in the corner "Recovery Key Detected" "Booting recovery kernel image". It never made it to clockwork. I know that it is not bricked, I can still boot to the normal OS but would like to get it to clockwork and then to a custom Rom. Any Suggestions or help for this?
I have done several samsung captivate root's and flashed them with custom Rom's so this is not my first rodeo.
Thanks
Sam
What bootloader are you on?

That CWM version is for 1.1 bootloader. Boot to Android, go to Settings, About & see which TapNTap version you are on. If it starts with 1.2 you are on 1.2 bootloader. If it starts with 1.1 you are on the 1.1 bootloader & you flashed the wrong version.

Did you make a nandroid backup before starting? Can you get into the boot loader menu (hold home and turn phone on).
If you made a backup, try to restore it.
If not and you can get into the bootloader, flash modaco's latest rom.
If not to both, try the ruu which is HTC's official (near enough) rom and install from Windows
I'm pretty sure CM ROMs are only for dreams and magics for now,
so basically, just boot into recovery and flash MoDaCo.
Thanks for your replies guys. i tried the first couple of things you suggested but still no joy.
How do i flash the MoDaCo from recovery console? im guess i do the following:
1: download latest ROM from MoDaCo website
2: put update.zip on to sdcard
3: boot to recovery console
4: apply update.zip
have i missed anything? am i on the right path?
Thanks for your help again guys.
Yes, that's basically correct, though you don't need to rename to update.zip as the recovery console allows you to select any ZIP file on the root of the SD card.

Dave
I am one of the lucky ones who got their tablet from woot/amazon for $280.
I got it in yesterday and absolutely hated the Tap Tap interface.
Naturally, I wanted to install a new ROM. I could only get the TnT Lite to install, but still not what I wanted. I tried Vegan and G-Harmony and I got the dreaded 3 bird screen. I downloaded and successfully installed 3588 and rebooted it. I noticed the ClockworkMod is no longer on there, which is no problem.
I followed the directions to install Clockwork and ROMS from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=865245
I, for some reason, decided to install Vegan again w/o clockwork installed.
I mounted the internal memory card, copied he ROM over as update.zip with the Recovery folder and the command file set to install from SDCARD. A reboot later and now I am stuck at the 3 birds...
I was able to do the Power +Vol and get the "Recovery key detected" message and it seems to load something, hitting the home button gives me the verbose which indicated that it was trying to install something off SDCARD2.
I have tried 3588, clockworkmod and Vegan as update zip on the external SD card with the Recovery folder command file pointing to SDCARD2.
When booting into Recovery, the verbose says: "FORMATTING MISC... REBOOTING..." takes about 4 seconds to complete, reboots and back to the 3 birds screen.
So, how do I [email protected]#$ myself here?
UPDATE!
I got my tablet to boot into CWM!! I ended up putting the MicroSD version of CWM and held down the Power +Vol longer that normal, saw the Android text and it installed the update.zip.
I tried in vain to boot into CWM, but it would re-install the update.zip. *Head smack* took out the SD card and now it boots into CWM!
Now, to try to install a ROM w/o those damn 3 bird screen...
Bootlogo not part of a ROM
You can replace the birds logo, but it is not part of a ROM. Search for replace boot logo, but make sure you know the correct partition to push your custom logo too. Read the entire thread when you find it first. There are tools out there that will let you back up your partitions, I highly recommend doing that first. Search for backup bct and look for PooR's thread and tools.

The boot logo is not my issue, it's just that it does not go past it no matter what non-TnT ROM I try to install.
I just want to install anything other than the factory OS or a modified factory OS (no disrespect to the dev who made TnT Lite).
I started another thread on my troubles getting a new ROM on there:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=13113438
Ok, so I have been running a Honeycomb rom but wasnt happy with it so I decided to try a different one. In the Roms directions, it said to be on a stock 1.2 rom. So I downloaded the one from its instructions and flashed. All went well, it booted into the stock rom with no problem. So I put the new HC rom on my sd and renamed to update.zip. I booted into recovery and noticed that the recovery was reverted back to the stock recovery. I thought, no big deal, Ill just flash the rom from that recovery. Well it kept aborting the install for some reason. Doesnt give an error, just says installation aborted. So I figured it was the recovery that was the problem. I downloaded CWM 0.8 and followed instructions, put the recovery folder and the update.zip on the sd card, I booted into recovery and the installation bar came up like it was installing, then switched back to the stock recovery. I assumed all went well and rebooted the device then powered off again and tried to boot into CWM, shows the three birds and the recovery key detected but doesnt go any further. I can power the device off and boot it back up into the stock rom but every time I try to boot into recovery, it does the same thing and gets stuck. Any help would be great.
CWM v8 isn't compatible with 1.2 branch.
My website here.
Hi, I just brought my G Tablet and I have downloaded "ClockworkMod_Gtab_v08.zip" and copy the "update.zip and "recovery" into my internal SD Root dir.
I boot into recovery mood and ClockworkMod install but after reboot into recovery mood again, the screen freeze in "Booting recovery kernel image" and don't go into ClockworkMod screen (for more then 10 mins and have try rebooting it a few times).
The G Tab can still boot up normally in to TapnTap, everything seem working find and I can connect to my computer using USB cable. But just can't boot into recovery.
I wanted to install new rom, how do I make boot into ClockworkMod screen (recovery)?
Any help is welcome.
Thanks
Take a look at the recovery script and make sure it says sdcard vs sdcard- ext that's the only thing i can think of right now that May do that.

This is the symptom of installing the wrong cwm. You're on the 1.2 branch but you put the cwm for the 1.1 branch. You hosed your recovery. Go to my website and use code red in the "start here" page to recover.
Same thing I happened to me. I bought mine off Woot a few days back and it came with 1.2 bootloader (4349). No matter how many times I tried, I could never get back into recovery. Here are the steps I did to fix that:
1. You need to do nvflash to recover your stock recovery (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=861950) - I followed all steps in the "Installation" section.
2. After this, you should now have your stock recovery back. You're going to need to downgrade manually to 3588 - Just follow the "POST NVFlash" section on that same page.
3. Once you're done downgrading, should be able to install CWM without issue.
Problem solved!
Thanks goodintentions you save my G Tab, it works!
And now it can boot back into ClockworkMod recovery mode.
Your website is very good and informative. Good job.
Thanks again.
Thanks "goodintentions", You saved me as well
Followed your post and it worked.
Good information...thanks for the help!

nvflash for dummies not working
Bro I connected my gtab to my computer in apx mode and my computer couldn't see it. Went to device manager and apx device was absent. Needless to say connecting my gtab to the computer was as far as I could get. If it helps any, I'm currently running bottle of smoke. Where I screwed my tab up is when I opened up time manager and it had an ota update for the recovery I was using.... Shoulda known better than to select advent vega for the device when it was running on the 1.2 branch recovery. Any tips? I wanna change my time but I need my recovery up n running.

haven't had time to play anymore and looking to wipe and sell my gtab. I had C7 running, so I went to settings/privacy and wanted to remove my account, saw a /dev/null popup, but after rebooting, I saw the birds and right into recovery and that's where I am stuck. There are other posts, none of which I could really follow, but here is my scenario;
On boot I get the birds, top left "booting recovery kernel image". I tried a wipe, install from zip and 2 or 3 numerous ROM's that had worked in the past, so that is where I am stuck. The bottom of CWM shows;
ClockworkMod Recovery v.3.0.2.8 (GTAB 1.2 and NI Adam rev5)
I don't have my old windows VM that I used to flash 1.2, but I really don't care what ROM I go with, custom, TNT, etc. so just need to know how to get back to a bootable system.
Thanks.
Your problem description is not very clear. Is your gTab always booting into recovery? If yes, then, see this thread.
