Hi there, I have an xperia x10 and the thing is getting out dated. I would like to switch to the Samsung Galaxy s2 but when I go to look there are like 50 different variants...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S_II I go to wiki and it shows me the different ones and who provides them.
I would like one with the 1.5 ghz dual core at the least, or am i mistaken? do I wan the hd screen?
Please help a brotha out, help me find the best sgs2
thanks in advance,
Vader
The lte versions need pricey data plans, the hd lte is only sold in korea, the sprint/tmobile ones wont work on rogers network, so that leaves you with the att i9100, the skyrocket or bell's i9100. Out of those i'd get the bell one since it has a physical home button and the largest userbase, or if you prefer capacitive ones get the att one. The skyrocket has a weaker cpu/gpu.
Look my friend , just buy the regular samsung galaxy s2 (GT-9100)
# it's good phone at the most
# main model not a secondry one e.g (GT-9100G) Or the 1.5 ghz one
# most support as it's the main model
# the 1.5 ghz is not the one that u gonna need it will drain out your battery life and so much heat u should face . Beside the 1.2 ghz works fine and runs all u needs
# when u choose take the most fimiler one to avoid any conflect with any experince
That's just what I see , at the end it's your call

Psh, the 1.5ghz isn't as efficient or powerful as our 1.2ghz.
$1 gets you a reply
DO NOT get the crapdragon version. The exynos has most of the support and is MUCH faster. I still cant figure out how people are selling the lte version for more in GTA area. please get the exynos.

I came from an X10 as well. Get the Bell GS2. I guess you can get the Telus GS2 (which is the same as T-Mobile but with Rogers bands) but trust me, get the international (Bell) variant.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using XDA Premium App
Ok so basically we have narrowed it down to Bell or Telus or International because they are the only ones that support the Rogers connection. What I don't get is why the snapdragon is so crappy? Does it overheat? Like usually you think well higher ghz means faster, it is this similar to like Intel cores that have a lower clock but are faster than an amd processor where the clock is higher? Its like a technology efficiency type deal?
Also do I have to switch providers if I buy the bell or telus one? I am planning on just buying the phone outright instead of changing my phone plan...
Thanks for all your guys' help I really really appreciate it!!!

Don't bother with the telus one, it has a weaker soc than the regular sgs2. The bell/internation sgs2 is identical, once you get it simply root the phone and unlock it with the Galaxy_S Unlock app from the market, it'll work on rogers just fine.

Thanks for the input, I know the SGS2 will be getting ICS but I have been keeping my eye on the Galaxy Nexus, it has a really nice screen and I really do enjoy having a great display, but as my x10 has a 8 mpx camera i feel like it would be counter productive in some senses. The galaxy nexus also doesn have as good of a processoror gpu as sgs 2 i wish they would make the galaxy as good as the sgs2.
Also i think the shape and concept of the galaxy nexus is much more appealing than the sgs2. Now im really at a dilema....galaxy nexus, or sgs2.

The better performance in benchmarks is all because of ICS. In my opinion, when SGS2 gets ICS, it beats the galaxy nexus in everything except the screen.

I just got this phone without realizing that the skyrocket was better. (I don't have 4g in my area). I recently found out that it was better from a hardware standpoint.
According to AT&T, i have 30 days to swap out the phone (for a fee). Should I go ahead and do it?
My main concern with the Skyrocket, is that it will not have as much development, or ICS roms. Is this valid?
In before op is flame broiled.
Skyrocket isn't better btw.

I really have, there isn't really a definitive answer as to what will happen in the future. I'm sure that someone knows better than me what will happen.
Actually you have it backwards. The original is better. I have the Sprint version which has the same specs as the original GSII. The skyrocket has a Snapdragon. The original/Sprint versions have the Exynos processor which SMOKES the Snapdragon, especially for games but also for processing things. Also, LTE is a waste of battery; HSPA+ is plenty fast. And you'll get more ROMS for the original since it's basically an i9100T (international GSII with NFC)
Sent from my GT-P7510 using xda premium
If your area doesn't even have 4G, then why would you care about the Skyrocket?
Better hardware? I wouldn't say so.
Yes, its processor is 1.5GHz but different chipset.
And beside a bit bigger in size, I don't think it's better in any way.
Anyway, again, this is your phone, it is your choice, make your own decision what best for you.
Just keep the i777, the Skyrocket is NOT better.
As said before, the Exynos mops the floor with the Skyrockets snapdragon.
Personally if I was you I would stick with the phone you have. If you're within your 30 day window and want to change I would go with the galaxy note and not the skyrocket.

I actually went the other way. I swapped out a skyrocket for the og gs2. Just because the hardware is better on the I777.

I'm gonna give you a final answer:
- 1.2 GHz Exynos Processor (Faster and more efficient, MUCH more powerful Mali 400 GPU) vs 1.5 GHz Snapdragon CPU (1.2 vs 1.5 means nothing; it's a higher frequency to try and compensate for a slower architecture)
- HSPA+ vs LTE; HSPA+ is still very fast and doesn't use any extra battery, whereas LTE uses a LOT of battery (and I know people with a Skyrocket who complain about battery life all the time). You're also not in a 4G area, so it shouldn't matter.
- You're either on a 2GB plan or a [throttled] Unlimited plan, so going with the Skyrocket will either use up your data faster or you'll be throttled regardless.
- The original GSII has the same internals as the i9100T (International Galaxy S II w/NFC), so you'll get MUCH more support than on a Skyrocket.
- Exynos Samsung phones are said to have better quality screens (and it's been shown in the T-Mobile GSII forums [same internals as Skyrocket]).
In other words, go with the original GSII.
Well, from my standpoint (skyrocket owner) The skyrocket definitely looks nicer. The bigger screen in nice, although 4.3" is great as well. You'd think the resolution would be worse than the original, but it is virtually the same. And my eyes are picky, too.
For those of you who say the OG sII is faster, get real. Yes the exynos processor is faster and more efficient on benchmark and spec sheets, but both processors are silky smooth when using the phones in real world circumstances.
In terms of battery life, I have owned both; and I will say that in a non LTE area, they get the same battery life(give or take). In an lte area, the skyrocket will definitely lose, but it will be much, much quicker on the internet
Finally, dev support. Yes the original has great dev support. However because exynos does not support lte, manufacturers will be making more phones with the snapdragon 8860. Which in turn will mean that most devices(and ROMs) that run on 8860 can and will be ported to the skyrocket.
In the end, I chose the skyrocket. Why? Because when I go to sell it in 6-12 months, it will have worked just as well as the original sII, and it will have a much higher resale value due to LTE.

The OG is faster. It has the Mali-400 GPU, which is a hell of a lot more powerful than whatever the Snapdragon's packing. This is coming from someone with a GSII and who also had an Evo 3D for a while. Even if you overclock the 3D's CPU to 1.5 GHz from 1.2, it doesn't hold a candle to the GSII. It's immediately noticeable not only when playing games, but also when processing things. You won't notice it while going through the app drawer, like the guy said, but when you actually DO things, you'll notice.
Obviously Skyrocket fans are going to love their skyrockets and say its better. OG (i777) SGII owners will say they love their phone and its better (because it is )
My thoughts: If you own a i777 and want to trade it in for the Skyrocket, then try it... because if you are even thinking about it, you obviously arent a dev nor do you really use your phone and all its features to the fullest so you probably wont notice any differences under the hood. Whats probably pulling you away is the bigger screen and the white finish. Go ahead and go, go trade it in for the Skyrocket.
One less thread started to ask "why is my battery draining so fast?".

I wouldn't touch a LTE device right now. I would wait until VoLTE comes included and when they put LTE band support in AWS(1700/2100), PCS(1900) and Cellular(850) bands. In 1 year when 700mhz is saturated, you will have to deal with slower speeds due to At&t's constrained spectrum in that particular band. These above mentioned features will supposedly be supported towards the end of the year or early next year.

WRONG. CPU is only a small part of the portability equation. All of the other peripherals on the device make a difference too. This is why, for example, you'll never see HTC firmwares running on the SR or T989 despite having the same CPU as many HTCs.
Basically, the Skyrocket has a unique hardware configuration that has NOTHING in common with any other device beyond the T-Mobile T989. It only has the CPU in common with other Qualcomm Snapdragon-based phones, and nothing in common with Exynos-based devices.
As an example of what happens when a device has the same CPU but different peripheral hardware - look at the state of the Infuse. It has the same CPU as the Nexus S and original Galaxy S series (other than a small speed bump to 1.2 GHz), but significantly different peripherals, which means it has major trouble leveraging development for other devices with the same CPU.
Also look at the state of development on Infuse - they have almost nothing beyond Hellraised I9000/Captivate ROMs, which they at least have due to that 70% or so hardware commonality with the I9k/Cappy. Note how many of their developers (including myself) got frustrated with the device and gave it up, even with this relatively high commonality. (That remaining 30% was a major pain in the ass... Including a ****ty Bluetooth chipset not used by any other phone on the planet I knew of.) The Skyrocket can, at best, "Hellraise" from the T-Mobile T989 community and that's most likely all it will ever be able to pull from.
Basically, Skyrocket is Infuse v2 - It takes everything that was bad development-wise about the Infuse and makes it even worse.
I'm getting a note from att .... and I'm looking on the reviews and seems like they all ***** on the att one .... so what I do ? This is the fastest device Ive ever had my hands on. That includes ios devices and my T2 Transformer. Even with ICS the UI isnt as fast as my note (read: smoothness...the pages and apps may transition or load faster sometimes on my transformer, but it isnt as buttery). And while the international note may have a faster SoC, the ATT note hasnt stuttered a single time nor has it dropped the frame rate below 30 fps in any game. And Ive played some demanding titles. Ive played dead space, idatank, zombie wonderland, and a whole host of other games. Plus, your getting LTE in exchange. Would i have preferred an exynos based SoC? yea. But not in exchange for LTE.
The bottom line: the note is blazing fast now, and will only get faster when ICS comes out this month. The real world performance differences are negligible, and not even worth mentioning. And battery life (which is good with the screen power management enabled) i havent had a single problem with the phone.
It really all depends, do you care about 4G LTE Speeds or quadrant scores? The int version has the better processor but isn't compatible with LTE. IMO, After rooting and removing some of the bloatware on the AT&T note, it runs smooth like butter. But the int version has some great features that the AT&T version didn't come with. Those would be scrolling wallpaper, movie editor, and a few options in settings. Its hard to get the best of both worlds...

Intl Note doesn't have NFC, nor is it LTE capable. That makes up for the slight difference in CPU performance in the ATT Note, IMO.
Yes, I know NFC isn't enabled yet, but the hardware is there.
If you live in North America, it is better to get the att note. (warranty stuff, lte) If you live in europe is better to get the int'l one. I personally do not care what people say about the processor, you don't notice the difference and even the benchmark scores do not mean anything! +I like att note's design better

You can enable it with a canadian based rom like Saurom. I have been writing tags today with Nfc task launcher. Really cool app that allows you to write a batch of commands to an Nfc tag so that when in the vicinity, the phone runs the batch. I have one now on my car dock to turn off wifi, turn on bluetooth, open voice talk, turn up volume, turn on gps. All without touching the phone
I get 3200 in quadrant first run underclocked on aosp ics.
I say to each his own. If u play a lot of games and video and don't have lte in your city go international. If you can use lte stick with the att version as you won't notice a huge performance difference in daily use between the two phones

Yes, there are many conflicts. The 4S runs HSPA+ and the Note runs LTE...the plans are provisioned differently in the system. Not to mention Android devices and iDevices run two different provisions even between 3G or HSPA+. Then there's the microSIM versus standard SIM.
Found out the Samsung Galaxy S3 is going to be dual core instead of quad core for the US versions. What a waste, I am no longer buying this phone. What about you? You can read about at http://9to5google.com/2012/06/04/sa...-s3-for-five-us-carriers-starting-this-month/
can i just say.. AT&T SGSIII is prob coming out June 20th. thats in like 2 weeks, itll take you that long to get an impossible to find SGSIII imported in. so youre not gonna be getting it any faster ordering it from uk.
as far as bloat.. you can remove it yourself once youre rooted, and there will be custom roms that do it for you..
as for the quadcore, the dualcore AT&T is using is just as fast, and clocked higher, so no noticeable performance differences there.
AT&T's SGSIII will have 2GB of ram, instead of 1GB.
and we just got LTE here in cleveland on AT&T.. im getting over 50kbps dl speeds.. thats not a typo, FIFTY!!! with the international version, youre looking at 4-6kbps MAX
the SGSIII on AT&T will be considerably less, (think 400 dollars less with contract).
these are all things you want to consider before getting the international version. its true in the past importing was always the best way to go, but this year seems like it may be different. id really suggest holding out a few days and seeing what AT&T's official moch up looks like
not even full bars V

Me cause its packing 2GB of ram.
i'm buying US version as well
i don't do much gaming but i do a lot of uploading/downloading of large files so the LTE is more beneficial to me than the better GPU in the international version.

Not to mention there arent very many graphic intense games on the play store. I was a little hesitant to get the US version but I'm still going with it, in pebble blue.
i have verizon and dont play much graphical games on the phone
i have a transformer prime to play games and LTE speeds to tether are much better for me
Yep 100%. Can't wait.
We've known for months. Better question is do you even know why you want a quad core? I bet you don't...

I'm torn between waiting to see the next nexus device (i love the phone, with the exception of the camera. low light pictures are terrible)
I'll be curious to see the definitive date for ATT
the LTE is nice and all, but it still isn't rolled out out in my area (Philly/South Jersey)

why would you want a Duel core.....lol
LTE? have it on the NOTE and Skyrocket......not enough of a draw for me anymore.
2gigs of ram? i see that as just a way to make it look like it is better...... to TRY and keep it on point with its international counterpart.
i have 55mbps+ in my area, i know for damn sure i'm getting the us version.

You can still buy the international version. And I don't think every model that comes to America will have the Dual Core snapdragon?.. Only the ones that have 4g.
smh
there will be people that say its no big deal duel core s4 and quad core almost the same speed . Not true theres a big difference bench marks only tell have the story.Im not buying this version maybe the international version. These carriers gonna get quad core working soon with lte. Most people that buy this phone now are gonna be pissed when samsung release a quadcore version this year in the states. They can keep that duel core mess cause i already got a duel core phone and a small increasement in speed aint worth my two year agreement. Its really sad to see most people that make these custom roms live overseas and cooking up a storm with these quadcore beast phones while here in the states we watch and wait.ugh
I already knew this when they said gs3 was gonna have quad cores because LTE can't handle 4. I think a single core phone clocked at the right speed is good enough. Our phones don't have to be more powerful then our computers

But think about this for a second with regards to dev support: there are two versions of this phone, not 5+ like the GSII or other popular phones that get butchered in the states. There's the Exynos version and the Qualcomm version. That's it. I think North American dev support will be pretty strong, not as much as the Exynos version, but much better than the US GSII's!

I don't think I've ever posted before.. but do you know the difference between the word "Dual" and "Duel"?
As for a difference between the speeds between the two processors, it doesn't matter as much to me as the data speeds are. So if the processor is slightly slower but I can get data speeds that are 10 times faster, I'll take the Dual core.
I'm planning to buy a new android phone this week
I had the HTC one X and I will not ever buy HTC mobiles again
in my country the galaxy nexus 4 is not available, neither the LG optimus G will be for a quite time

Galaxy S3.
Do not get Samsung, trust me they do not have the craftsmanship and it's features are mediocre at best. It's exfat is broken and the screen breaks easily thanks to 20% thinner gorilla glass; its very expensive to repair because it is glued on it.
I recommend you phone such as: Motorola DROID razr maxx hd(uses kevlar back cover which is the same material used for bullet proof vest, and it has the largest battery life of android on its size), HTC butterfly if you could get one(has 1080p ips rgb display on 5" size, quad core s4 pro, adreno 320, 2gb ram, microsd, 2nd best camera sensor atm first is lumia 920), the upcoming Sony phone that also has 1080p display and quad core s4 pro. If you want the absolute best that is currently available atm, you cannot get it because it is only available on sprint and the phone is called EVO 4G lte which uses anodize aluminum construction, kickstand, and microsd slot, krait cores, 2nd best camera sensor and the fastest Brower atm(sun spider score on its stock browser is 1.2-1.3k on ics

I think you little hard on Samsung, even I'm not a fan I can see how they won that large market share by providing alot of feature, good hardware and varieties
Motorola is almost rare here in my market, I thought of the Maxx series for the large battery but the Note II battery numbers are really impressive
No More HTC, I've using HTC devices from mid 2010 and the big failure in HTC one X (lousy battery, overheating, poor screen protection, got three scratches without a reason ) and for the record, my touch buttons are not working and I'm having it repaired at the moment by replacing the full touch screen
I think that replied on siwo.jack as well
Lumia 920 I guess it will be great but it yet pretty early to judge and I was for two and half years an android user so I'm not sure about winmo 8
Sony Phablet yet to be available and yet to judge either
EVO 4G lte is an HTC and N/A here
I think you should go for LG optimus LS970 btw you can see its specification on gsm arena

it is amazing and the price is too
but 16 GB most !!
also when it come to my country it will be late and priced to the roof
S3 i would say... and S2 is still a best option
:good: go for s 3 ... nice phone ... Note II is also good option but it all depends how you are going to use it. if you carry it daily S3 and S2 are good options ... Note II lil difficult to carry around daily in some crowded places ... fear to loss it
technically both are best phones ...
So wait bro it will be released soon trust me the phone is a monster

I think while the Samsung Galaxy S3 is great, you can not really go wrong with the new Nexus 4 by Google. The price point is just incredible. Of course, if absence of LTE doesn't bother you.
The big question always is, "what are you going to do with it?". Different people have different priorities. For me, camera/screen is a big factor. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think you'll find a better camera on an android phone than the S3.
