Access the number pad
Long press the 12# or 123 button on the keyboard. This will only work if you have the standard keyboard installed.
Access the scientific calculator
When using the standard calculator, rotate the phone to landscape mode. The calculator will change to a scientific one.
Remove numbers from the call log
If you have made a call to a number that you don't want anyone seeing in your call log, press Call log on the Home screen. Then press and hold on the contact you want to remove. When the Menu appears, press Delete.
Save images in browser, email or text
To save an image in an email or in the browser, long press on the image and a menu will appear allowing you to save it.
For images inside text messages, you might have to press and hold on the message itself, rather than the image.
Allow swear words in voice recognition
By default, the phone will recognise swear words, but insert x's instead of the word. To change this, go to Settings - Voice input & output - Voice recognition settings. Then untick Block offensive words.
View all camera settings
While in the Camera app you can view all current settings by pressing and holding the little Gear icon in the top right corner of the app.
Swipe right to dial contact
From the Contact list or the Messaging list, swipe from Left to Right to call a Contact.
View CPU and battery information
To view information about your battery and CPU go to your phone dialer and type in the following code: *#*#4636#*#*
Disable the screen lock
Go into Settings - Location and security. Then under Screen unlock settings press Change screen lock. Then chose None.
Rejecting a call with a message
If you receive a call you cannot take (eg if you're in a meeting) you can send a text reply rather than just reject the call. When you receive the call, scroll up from the bottom and select a reject message.
Search music on Youtube from Music Player
While in the Music Player, long press on the song title of the music and you can search Youtube for more music.
Zoom when using the camera
Use the Volume keys to zoom in and out
Feel free to comment with your own tips so that I can add it to the OP!

yes , me too
Samsung phones have the contact swipe action, the RAZR does not. It does have swipe actions in the stock email client, though.
This is more of a generic Android tips list.

I there anyway to have a button / icon on the homescreen that directly opens the dialer. So that I don't have to open the dialer via contacts then scroll the tab left. I can't find a shortcut or widget that does it. Have done a few searches but to no avail. Any help provided would be gratefully received.
+1 to this.
I'm thoroughly confused by this question. There's an app called "phone dialer".
there's an app called phone, but it opens the phone app at contacts, not the dialer.
Okay - I guess we have different firmware that have different apps then. When you scroll the tabs to the left to get to the dialer, does it not remember that next time you open the app?
Alternatively, and if you'd be happy with a 3rd party replacement, look at GO Contacts. It installs as both a contacts app and a dialer, and really is very good. I'm all over GO apps at the minute!
I just use the free "no lock" screen app, then all you have to do is press the dialler button once the phone wakes up.

If you don't know what facepalm means then just google it. As for why, read the thread properly.
Ohh, yes my mistake jumping to conclusions, so many threads and so little time,
You could have told me a little more subtly and saved my embarrassment.

Anyone find a way to have custom ringtone per contact, particularly for incoming SMS? Feel kinda silly not figuring it out..
Can it not be done through the edit contact page? That's how it is on other phones, though I don't know that I've seen a way to get custom sms notifications. Would be sweet!
Yep. Look at the contact in the People app and click on Ringtone.

Don't you guys pester my locksmith, by the way.
I did the drag-and-drop approach. Connect the EVO to your windows pc laptop/desktop using the usb cable. Wait 5-10 seconds and a “Choose a connection type” window will show on the phone screen. Select “Media sync”. Then you’ll be able to view folders/files in your phone device (like an external hard drive). Double-click “phone” folder (this is your EVO), and you’ll see various folders (Music, Ringtones, Notifications, Download, etc). You can now copy a music file or picture file stored in your laptop/desktop and paste it to one of these folders…depending on what you’re using it for. After you're done, disconnect the phone from the computer.
Go to EVO's Settings, then Sound, then Phone ringtone, and select your ringtone. (You can also do this via Music app).
For Messages app, open it, go to Menu on top right corner, then Settings, then Notifications, then Notification sound, and select your ringtone.
You can specify an inbound call ringtone per person, but this does not apply to the TXT msg settings that I am aware of.
Will
I don't know if it works on ICS but try Ringo Lite for assigning ringtones, SMS tones and text tones.
handcent
SMS Sounds is a lightweight app that is specifically for setting SMS tones for contacts.

goto contact/edit/ringtone pick ringtone then save
for sms/mms go in to app press menu(3 dot buttons on top right)settings/notifiction/notifiction sound/choose sound you wish to use for incoming sms/mms(if your looking to individual sounds for each contact i dont believe you can do that)
With GoSMS and Handcent you can set individual sms ringtones. The third party apps provide tons of customization for messaging.

So I installed the 4.2 camera and gallery on my One X+, and have been playing with it. I have one big issue right off the bat, and it is with the gallery. When the camera is on, one can swipe over to the gallery to see the picture I just took...lets say i want to text that picture to someone? On the top of the screen there is a share icon...I hit that, and no option for message. So I hit the "see all" selection. No message option in the entire list.
So it seem the only way to text a picture is to go into the the old galley, and share from there, or open a new message and attach from there?
Is there a way to add message as one of the sharing options in the new gallery?

If no one know an answer to this...is there a way to associate the camera to a different gallery?
You need to go to messages and hit the paperclip to send pics mms

I know I can....but on the GS3, messaging shows up as an option to share like it should. Getting out of the camera, the making a new text message is more work than sharing right from the gallery!
EDIT: It looks like the good ole 3 button menu strikes again!
I'm pretty sure this is because the stock sms app is a part of sense, and only sense apps can use other sense apps. Kind of like how you can't use sense widgets on 3rd party launchers.
I suggest using a different sms app if you want that functionality, you could even use the aosp 4.1 app. Either that or use the paperclip shortcut in the HTC sms app.

Can you share apk? Is incompatible with mine.
When I am traveling with Google Maps enabled, my phone is connected to a bluetooth speakerphone - and if someone calls me - instead of a map, I see who is calling, and then during the conversation, the phone goes blank instead of pointing the road further.
Does anyone know how to remedy this problem? Once I passed the motorway exit and had to make up for over 50 km ...
Can not the information about the caller appear only as a notification and the phone will continue to navigate?

If you wanted to download the Google Phone APK (there are a few different modified versions posted on XDA) you can set that dialer to appear as a bubble notification and disable the stock LG dialer, which should keep it from taking over your screen.
I understand this isnt a solution for fixing the LG dialer, but its still a solution overall so I figured I would reply. Not sure how to get the LG one to only show as a notification but i think its possible. Have you tried going into the LG Dialer Application Settings and Remove or Enable its "Draw Over Other Apps" permissions ? You may just need to give it access (or take it away, depending on which its already set to) in order to keep it from taking over the screen.

I did as you suggested and turned off the ability to draw on other applications for the "call service".
Unfortunately, it does not give anything, because the problem is somewhere else.
In the moment when navigation works and someone calls me - a notification window pops up - and that's OK.

But when I press the "answer" the screen switches completely to the telephone conversation - where every hand approximation to the proximity sensor (accidentally - when you try back to navigation while you driving the car ) will blank the screen, and "always display on" will not work - and the screen will go blank - because the screensaver started working.
Is it impossible to do so that after receiving the call - selected applications will still be displayed and the conversation will be in the background? - So that you do not need to eject the taskbar and manually switch to the navigation, which is dangerous while driving!
Now I'm understanding. I had thought you were trying to avoid the focus switching while the device was ringing.
I think there may be an easy fix for you though. See attached photo. Do you have PIP set to "Yes"?
